Emerald was in an alcove one late evening reading a resource book for her transfiguration essay. Although she was comprehending what she was reading, her mind was going between Cedric, Harry, and those dragons. 'How could Dumbledore allow this to begin with? I really think he just wants to add more prestige to his name. Not like he doesn't have enough to begin with.'
"A sickle for your thoughts?" a voice said. She turned her head to see Draco.
"Hi Drac." She sighed.
He moved her feet and sat down in the alcove with her.
"What's going on in that magnificent head of yours? Tell big brother!" Draco said as he puffed out his chest.
She laughed, "Oh Draco, you really know how to make me laugh."
"Tell me, what's on your mind?"
"I don't know. It's, it's something I can't really talk about you know?" she looked at him and he had a steal gaze in his eyes. She knew she had to tell him. "Come with me." she whispered. She took his hand and they went out of the portrait hole. Making sure to steer clear of any teachers or students, she went to the stairs and went up to the seventh floor.
"Barmy Ems, where are you taking me?" Draco hissed as they kept making their way. He noticed they stopped in front of a tapestry.
"Barnabas the Barmy? What are we doing here?" Draco turned to find Emerald gone. "Emerald? Emerald?" he whispered louder.
"Shhh!" Emerald hissed.
Draco saw her walking back and forth in front of the wall opposite of him? Instead of asking again he just watched. She walked back and forth three times and stopped in the middle of the wall. A few seconds passed and a doorway emerged.
"Whoa." Draco mouthed.
"Come on!" Emerald waved him over and practically shoved him inside the room.
Once inside Draco noticed the room had two oversized chairs in green, a coffee table, snacks on the coffee table, two mugs of liquid, a fire place, and large bookshelves surrounding the room. He walked further inside and noticed a window with the full moon outside.
"What is this place?"
"It's known as the Room of Requirement, the Come and Go room. Basically there are many names. Its purpose is to give you a space of need. You think of what you want and or need, the room provides."
He turned to look at her, "How did you come by this?"
"Luna."
"The weird blonde girl?"
Emerald gave him a stern look, "Yes the weird blond girl."
Draco put his hands up, "Sorry, didn't mean it like that. It's nice."
Emerald nodded and gestured towards the chairs. She sat in one and took a mug. Draco followed and took a sip.
"Hot chocolate?" he smirked.
"The elves know what I like." She shrugged.
"Of course, the elves know all." He mumbled. Emerald just laughed. Because in a sense, the elves do know a lot.
"So, what was so secretive you had to bring me all the way here? Not that I'm complaining mind you." Draco said taking a sandwich from the tray and sitting back.
"Well, first off I don't need to tell you that you'd better not tell ANYONE about this room?"
He quirked his eyebrow at her, meaning, are your serious?
"Just checking." She sipped her hot chocolate.
"Cedric and I were running the other night. We heard something."
Draco nodded as he took a bite of his sandwich. Not looking at her.
"In the forest."
He nodded again.
"Roaring."
"That's not uncommon. Who knows what lurks in that place." He said as he sipped his drink.
"They were dragons Draco."
He spat out his drink.
"Excuse me!?"
"Cedric and I went to investigate. We saw Hagrid with the Beauxbatons Headmistress. He was showing them to her. There were four of them."
Draco was stunned. He didn't know what to say.
"Holy Merlin's balls," he finally said as he sank down further into the chair. He sprung back up, "wait, you said there's four of them?"
She nodded.
"That means…. They're for the first task aren't they?" he whispered.
She nodded again and took another sip.
"Does Potter know?" Draco asked making a face.
"Yes, he does." Emerald
"Bet he loved that. I bet Weasley led him in on it. No doubt that brother of his that works with dragons is handling it for Dumbledore." Draco scoffed. He looked at Emerald face, "What?"
"He didn't know. Not before we told him."
"Hold on, are you saying Weasley kept it from Potter? His best mate?"
"If you hadn't noticed dear brother of mine, Weasley has a jealousy issue with Harry. Getting picked for the tournament and all. Anyway, Cedric and I went to find him in the library with Hermione and Weasley. You can imagine how that went down. Hermione was furious. I think she was more disappointed in him than anything."
"She was, was she? Well that's one less person to deal with." He mumbled.
Emerald smirked, "I don't think you need to worry about him."
Draco scowled, "come off it Ems."
"Oh don't be mad at me, if you don't DO something, Krum will have picked her up before you can say Quidditch." Emerald sighed.
Draco just continued to scowl and mumble the more Emerald kept talking about Hermione and Krum.
Having actually taken his sister's word to heart, Draco found himself in the library on the free period before lunch. He observed from a nearby aisle towards the back of the library that Hermione was by herself. Studying what looked like for Charms.
'Perfect, Charms is what I'm good at besides Potions.' Draco thought as started to make his way over but abruptly stopped.
"Hermioneeny! How are you?" asked Krum as he took a chair across from her. Draco fumed.
"Victor! Hello. Um I'm well thank you. Just studying. As usual." Hermione smiled. But to Draco's notice, it seemed forced.
"Ah, vell, do you need help?" Krum asked.
"No. No. I'm good. Actually I was just leaving," she stood up and packed her books.
"Oh, I'm sorry if I intervupted? Let me walk you to your dorm?"
Draco had seen enough. "Granger!" he strutted up.
Hermione looked up to see Draco standing to the side of Krum. Needless to say she was shocked.
"Malfoy." She nodded to him.
"I was wondering if you had the time, you could help me with the Charms essay," he asked purposefully not looking at Krum.
Hermione didn't answer right away, she was confused as to why Malfoy, of all people would be asking her for help.
Krum stood up, "She vas just leaving Mr. Malfoy."
"It won't take long Granger. Promise." Draco side glanced Krum who was glaring at him. 'Good'
"Well, I guess I can spare a few minutes." Hermione said as she sat back down.
Draco feeling accomplished sat down in front of her where Krum was sitting. "Thanks Krum, you can go." He said not looking at him as he got his book out.
Krum not really knowing what to do, looked at Hermione who seemed to keep her head down as she looked through her bag, and sighed and walked away.
"Good riddance." Draco grumbled.
"Malfoy!" Hermione hissed.
"What? He was bugging you, you obviously didn't want him here, thought I'd help." Draco shrugged.
Hermione wasn't convinced. "What are you playing at?"
"Really Granger, I saw the look on your face. The smile was forced. Trust me, I know the look. You didn't want him here."
She sighed, "No, I didn't. He comes in sometimes. Mostly just watches me study."
"Bit annoying ain't it?" he asked.
"It is. I don't like being stared at. I don't know how Harry handles it."
"Oh, St. Potter can handle it. I'm surprised your Knight in Shining Armor isn't around." Draco prodded.
Hermione looked at him in confusion.
"Weasley. He'd defend your honor against Krum. Wouldn't he?" Draco asked turning the pages in his book.
Hermione blushed. "Not that it's any of your business but I'm not talking to him right now." She huffed.
Draco leaned in towards her. She rose her eyebrows. "It's about the dragons isn't it?"
"Shhhh! Malfoy! How did you know?" she hissed.
"Emerald told me a short story. Believe it or not Granger, I don't blame you or Potter."
"You, you don't?"
"No, if I was in his situation, first I wouldn't be jealous." Hermione hmphed. "Ok, maybe a little, but I certainly wouldn't put my best mate in danger over something pitiful like that."
Hermione relaxed a little.
"Can Potter do or use anything?"
"He's allowed a wand. I've been helping him with summoning spells." She whispered looking around to make sure no one was lurking.
"You just think of everything don't you Granger?" he asked as he stood up and put his bag over his shoulder.
"Where are you going? Didn't you need help?" Hermione asked confused.
"Parting is such sweet sorrow Granger. But I must bid you adieu. I did come over just to get Krum off your back. Going to miss me?" he smirked looking down at her.
"I, will I, ugh. Malfoy! That is not what I meant!" she glared at him.
"Let's just say you owe me a favor." He waved off as he walked away.
"Malfoy!" she yelled.
Madame Pince just glared at her. Hermione blushed scarlet and sat down in a huff. "That slimy git!" she hissed.
"That went well." Came a voice from one of the bookshelves. Hermione looked up. Emerald came from one of the shelves with Luna.
"Oh great you two." Hermione slouched in her chair.
"Poor posture Herms!" Emerald smiled as she and Luna took a seat.
"There so much magic pulsing here. You two create a lot of it." Luna said airily.
Hermione snorted, "yeah, a lot of hostility is more like it. Can you believe him? A favor indeed!"
Emerald shared a knowing look at Luna. "He did "save" you from Krum did he not?" Emerald adding the quotation marks with her hands for emphasis.
Hermione slouched more. "I guess."
"So? You owe him a favor, and Hermione my brother always gets his favors. Whether he's the one to owe them, or to receive them. Especially when receiving, he ALWAYS collects." Emerald smirked.
Hermione not knowing how to respond she sits up and then hits her head on the table. Luna leaned forward and put her hand on Hermione's. "There there." She says. Hermione just groans.
