When they arrived on Tortuga, the population is as disorderly and loud as before. Jack and Madelyn sat nearby Gibbs as he was sitting at a table, trying to find ninety-nine souls willing to sail on the Black Pearl. He looked at sailor one. "And what makes you think you're worthy to Crew the Black Pearl?"
"Truth be told, I never sailed a day in me life. I figure I should get out and see the world while I'm still young." Sailor one replied to him.
"You'll do. Make your mark." Gibbs indicates the roster sheet. "Next!"
"My wife run off with my dog, and I'm drunk for a month, and I don't give an ass rat's if I live or die." Sailor two said to him.
"Perfect!" Gibbs said to him. "Next!"
Jack hold the compass and muttered to himself. "I know what I want, I know what I want, I know what I want." Then he opened the compass and it still won't show him his bearing as Madelyn ignored him.
"Me have one arm and a bum leg." Sailor three told to Gibbs.
"It's the crow's nest for you." Gibbs told him.
"I know what I want." Jack muttered as he again opened the compass and still nothing.
"Next!" Gibbs shouted.
"Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to sail the seas. Forever." Sailor four told him.
"Sooner than you think." Gibbs told him and let see the roster. "Sign the roster."
"Thanks very much." Sailor four told him as then he signed, then he walked away as Jack stood up and walked to Gibbs, Madelyn followed him.
"How are we going?" Jack asked to him.
"Including those four? That gives us… four." Gibbs replied to him, sarcastically as Jack shakes the compass vigorously as another hopeful sailor comes up. "And what's your story?"
"My story?" Gibbs nodded, but didn't look up, Madelyn stared at the man. "It's exactly the same as your story, just one chapter behind. I chased a man across the seven seas." Jack closed his compass and looked around for a spot to hide in. "The pursuit cost me my Crew, my commission, and my life." Grabbed a rum bottle down off the table, took a swig as Norrington looked scruffy, dirty, and very much unlike himself.
"Commodore?" Madelyn asked, looking at him surprised.
Norrington shook his head. "No, not anymore, weren't you listening?" They looked uncomfortable. "I nearly had you all off Tripoli. I would've, if not for the hurricane." Jack took a leafy plant and hide behind it.
"Lord. You didn't try to sail through it?" Gibbs asked to him.
"So do I make your Crew or not?" Norrington asked to him. "You haven't said where you're going. Somewhere nice!" Upturned the table and Gibbs falls off his stool, Madelyn looked in sock, then started strutting around the tavern. "So am I worthy to serve under Captain Jack Sparrow?" Jack tried to inconspicuously to walk away with the plant clutched in front, but Norrington spotted him anyway and pointed his pistol at him. "Or should I just kill you now?"
"You're hired." Jack looked at him.
"Sorry. Old habits and all that." Norrington was ready to shoot when two pirates raise his pistol hand to the ceiling.
"Easy Sailor!" One pirate said as the pistol fired and the bullet ricochets off the lights and broke someone's bottle, then a brawl broke out.
"Time to go." Jack told them.
Gibbs nodded. "Aye."
Madelyn also nodded. "Yeah." Then they carefully make their way upstairs.
On the other end of the bar, Elizabeth spotted Norrington and helped him fight off his attackers as Norrington keep on drinking.
Back to Jack, Gibbs and Madelyn, Jack keeps trying on different hats, but not one seems to suit him well enough, then he took another. "Thanks, mate." He touched the pirate's shoulder and the man falls off his perch on the railing. "Ooh." He shrugged and put on the hat he took off him onto another being carried off to be thrown off the second floor and steps aside. "Carry on." Then the man is thrown over.
Norrington was surrounded by unfriendly swords, Elizabeth at his back. "Come on, then! Who wants some? For my lordly line, I'll have you one by one. Come on, who's first?"
Then Elizabeth grabbed the bottle in Norrington's hand and smashes it over his head. "I just wanted the pleasure of doing that myself." The rest cheer; they heave him out into the pig pen and leave cheerfully. Mr. Mercer, Beckett's man, was standing in the doorway watching as Elizabeth helped Norrington get himself out of the muck. "James Norrington." Then she sighed. "What has the world done to you?"
The next day, Elizabeth followed Jack and Madelyn to the Pearl, still dressed as a boy. "Captain Sparrow?" She called to him.
They turned around as Jack comment. "Come to join me Crew, lad? Welcome aboard."
"I'm here to find the man I love." Elizabeth told him, seriously.
"I'm deeply flattered, son, but my first and only love is the sea." Jack looked alarmed and indicates to Gibbs to get the 'lad' away from them as Norrington throws up into the bay.
"Meaning William Turner, Captain Sparrow." Elizabeth comment flatty.
Madelyn looked happy to see her sister. "Elizabeth." As then she went to hug her.
Jack finally turned all the way around. "Elizabeth?" He looked surprised as he then looked at Gibbs. "Hide the rum." Gibbs took the bottle from his hand and walked on the ship. "You know these clothes do not flatter you at all. It should be a dress or nothing. I happen to have no dress in my cabin."
"Jack." Elizabeth shook her head, thinking that he still the same man. "I know Will came to find you, where is he?"
Jack looked at her. "Darling, I am truly unhappy to have to tell you this, but through an unfortunate and entirely unforeseeable series of circumstances that had nothing whatsoever to do with me, poor Will has been press-ganged into Davy Jones's Crew." Madelyn looked at him, she thought 'Why the laying and the half-truths?' as then she sighed as then Elizabeth looked curiously.
"Davy Jones?" She asked to him.
Norrington was still throwing up. "Oh, please. The Captain of the Flying Dutchman?"
"You look bloody awful, what are you doing here?" Jack looked at him.
"You hired him, remember." Madelyn comment, dryly.
"You hired me." Norrington scoffed. "I can't help it, if your standards are lax."
"You smell funny." Jack said childish.
"Jack!" Elizabeth shouted to get his attention.
Then he looked at her. "Hmm."
"All I want is to find Will." She told him.
"Are you certain? Is that what you really want most?" Jack asked her as Madelyn eyed him. "What you think you are doing?" She asked him, but he ignored her.
Elizabeth looked curious at him. "Of course."
Jack put his hand onto her back and lead her to the side and of course Madelyn followed them, to prevent that Elizabeth wasn't being lied to, not that he always lies. "Because I would think, you'd want to find a way to save Will most."
"And you'd have a way of doing that?" She looked at him.
"Well, there is a chest." Jack replied to her.
"Oh, dear." Norrington groaned as he throws op again.
"A chest of unknown size and origin." Jack continued.
Just then Pintel and Ragetti came towards them. "What contains the still beating heart of Davy Jones." Ragetti imitated a still beating heart after it has been torn out.
"And whoever possesses that chest, possesses the leverage to command Jones to do whatever it is he or she wants. Including saving brave William from his grim fate." Jack spoke further.
"You don't actually believe him, do you?" Norrington asked to her.
"I do." Madelyn told him. "Cause, I have seen it."
Elizabeth looked first at her sister, she trusted her as then she looked at Jack. "How do we find it?"
"With this." Jack hold up his compass. "My compass… is unique."
Norrington looked in disbelief. "Unique, here, having the meaning of broken."
"True enough." Jack shrugged as Norrington walked off to throw up some more. "This compass does not point north."
"Where does it point?" Elizabeth asked curious.
"It points to the thing you want most in this world." Jack replied to her.
"Jack." She shook her head. "Are you telling the truth?"
"Every word, love." Jack nodded to her. "And what you want most in this world…" Placed the compass in her hands. "Is to find the chest of Davy Jones, is it not?"
"To save Will." Elizabeth replied to him.
"By finding the chest of Davy Jones." Jack opened the compass and briskly stepped away as the needle spins before finally stopping resolutely. Jack peers up cautiously to get the coordinates. "Mr. Gibbs!" He shouted to Gibbs.
Gibbs came to them. "Cap'n?"
Jack looked at him. "We have our heading."
"Finally!" He said happily as then he went to the Crew. "Cast off those lines, weigh anchor, and trough that canvas!"
"Finally indeed." Madelyn looked at jack, before she also walked to Gibbs and went to help with the Crew.
Jack looked at Elizabeth and with a sweep of his arm invites Elizabeth on board. "Ms. Swann." Norrington, swaying, followed them.
"Welcome to the Crew, former Commodore." Ragetti shoved a goat into his arms.
