Chapter 7 Leaf in the Wind

Its been a week since Sean and Korra arrived in Republic City so Korra could train with Tenzin in airbending.

And of course since Sean killed his uncle Hercules. And got a new weapon which could make a dent in the strongest metal.

Of course Lin was still being a royal pain in the ass by going to the council saying Sean needed to be put down to avoid future problems like before but they shut her down and warned her to stay away or face further issues.

After the fight Sean took the Gauntlets to Brok and Sindri and they upgraded them to destroy almost anything.

As of right now however Sean and Korra were in the mess hall with Tenzin with Korra reading the Paper while Sean inspected his new weapons.

"And in the final round, the buzzard-wasps won with a decisive knockout. What do you say the two of us head to the Arena tonight, catch a fee pr bending matches." Korra asked Sean who smirked snatching the paper from her.

"I knew you were gonna bring this up when we got here." Sean said making her grin.

"That sport is a mockery of the noble tradition of bending." Tenzin said.

"Oh lighten up. At least these guys are using their power in a positive way." Sean said.

"Come on, Tenzin, I've dreamed about seeing a pro bending match since Sean and I were kids, and now we're a ferry ride away from the Arena." Korra said pointing outside.

"Korra, you're not here to watch that drivel. You're here to finish your avatar training. So for the time being, I want both of you to remain on the island." Tenzin said.

"Is that why you're keeping the Lotus sentries around to watch our every move?" Korra said seeing some.

"Yes, In order to learn Airbending, I believe you need a calm. quiet environment, free from any distractions." Tenzin said.

"And keep the forever virgin police chief away from me." Sean said making Korra gasp in surprise before snickering while Tenzin's eyes twitched at that. "Honestly how does anyone put up with her?" Sean asked.

"I'm sorry about her. Her hostility towards you was surprising to be honest since she's never done that. In her view she clearly sees you as someone who will bring nothing but trouble and believes having you killed would prevent that." Tenzin said.

"Hence why she dies alone." Sean said.

After that Korra was in airbending clothes walking with Tenzin to a training exercise.

"So my mother informed me you've never been able to Air bend before." Tenzin said making her stop and sigh.

"Yeah but I don't know why. The other elements were beyond easy but every single time I've tried airbending." Korra trailed off blowing a raspberry. "Nothing." Korra said.

"Yeah and believe me she's tried real hard on that." Sean said remembering how hard she tried when he came back and beforehand.

"Thats not unexpected often the element thats the most difficult for the Avatar to Master is the one most opposite to the Avatar's personality. For my father it was earthbending." Tenzin said.

"Well, I'm about as opposite an airbender as you can get." Korra said.

"You make it sound like a bad thing." Sean said making her smile.

Soon the three arrived seeing the kids next to some strange equipment.

"Korra's gonna airbend. Korra's gonna airbend!" Ikki said.

"What is that contraption?" Korra asked.

"A time-honored tool that teaches the most fundament aspect of airbending. Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?" Tenzin asked his oldest.

"The goal is to weave your way through the gates and make it to the other side without touching them." Jinora said.

"Seems easy enough." Korra said.

"Somehow I very much doubt that." Sean said.

"Jinora forgot to mention you have to make it through when the gates are spinning." Ikki said.

Tenzin airbended them before tossing in a leaf.

"The key is to be like the Leaf. Flow with movement of the gates." Tenzin said as the leaf made it to the other side. "Jinora will demonstrate." Tenzin said as she went in. "Airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice." Tenzin said as she made it through flawlessly before blowing wind back into it.

"Lets do this." Korra said before rushing in.

And she got smacked around before flying out making Sean chuckle.

"Your not gonna be able to just charge in." Sean said.

"I'd like to see you try." Korra said making him grin before he ran in before he did it perfectly before coming out next to Jinora making Korra's jaw drop "WHAT!" Korra yelled.

"Chiron taught me something similar three months after I left." Sean said.

"Aye. The big guy knows how to train his students." Mimir said.

"No kidding." Dojo said.

Later

Korra was trying to practice airbending on a newspaper of Line.

"Airbend." Korra said but nothing happened making Sean snicker. "What is wrong with me! AIRBEND!" Korra yelled but nothing happened making her growl before firebending it.

"Easy now." Sean said rubbing her shoulders.

"Why can't I get this? The other elements were so easy compared to this." Korra said.

"Every Avatar in the past has had some difficulty with certain elements. Aang had trouble with Earth bending. Roku, waterbending. Kyoshi had trouble with Airbending since it was the opposite of her natural element. For you it would have been fire but it's airbending since your personality it the opposite of it." Sean said making her sigh.

"I guess." Korra said.

"Don't worry. You'll get it when you need it the most." Sean said making her smile at him.

Thats when they heard the Radio the White Lotus were using on the Pro bending matches making Sean smirk.

"This should cheer you up." Sean said picking her up making her laugh before Sean jumped to the roof as they listened to the matches.

"Your right. This did cheer me up." Korra said.

As the round started getting exciting the radio turned off making them blink.

"Uh...What just happened?" Korra asked.

"Both of you come down here." Tenzin said.

"Oh, well, that fucking figures." Sean said as they jumped down.

"You shut it off at the best part!" Korra said annoyed.

"I thought I made it clear. I don't want you listening to this distracting nonsense." Tenzin said.

"Oh come on! It's after dark and training is over. You saying she can't relax? Your old man goofed off during the war and relaxed." Sean said.

"That was different he was still a child you two are grown adults. Now go to bed." Tenzin said making them roll their eyes.

Next morning

Sean and Korra were in the middle of meditation alone.

"I think I'm doing this wrong." Korra said.

"Theres nothing honestly to do. You just have to relax. Forget about everything else." Sean said.

"How do you do this? Chiron teach you?" Korra asked.

"I also learned from other half gods." Sean said.

"You know you never really introduced me to Reznov and the others when you killed Ares. We were just there for you to heal for the night." Korra said.

"She's right." Mimir said.

"I guess I didn't. Luke is the Son of Hermes the messenger of the gods. He's fast and very skilled. Reznov is the son of Thor of Asgard. One of the strongest in Norse Gods. Julia is the daughter of Horus the God of the Air." Sean said.

"How did you meet them?" Korra asked.

"I met Luke when I woke up after your uncle tried to drown me with that huge wave. He was the one who told me I was a half god." Sean said.

"So how come they haven't been visiting?" Korra asked.

"Training no different than me." Sean said before smirking. "You know what? Why don't we sneak out tonight." Sean said making her grin.

"Oh? Where to?" Korra asked.

"To the pro bending arena." Sean said making her smirk.

Later

Sean and Korra arrived at the bending arena before Korra used water bending to get them inside before doing it again to get it off.

"How is it you can't control water if you have a thousand god powers inside. you?" Korra asked.

"I haven't learned them all yet." Sean said before they arrived in the gym.

"Hello." Korra said as they went in.

"HEY!"

Both turned to see an old man walking to them.

"What are you two doing here?"

"Sorry we got lost." Korra said as someone passed them.

"Oh that old excuse. You know what I'm sick of you kids coming in without paying I'm taking you to security."

"Don't you think you're overreacting?" Sean asked.

"Shut the hell up."

Sean glared at him with cold eyes that made him gulp.

"Uh oh." Dojo said.

"What I meant was."

"Its all right Sean, calm down." Korra said keeping him calm.

"There you two are."

Both turned to see clearly a contender walking to them.

"I've been looking everywhere for you guys. It's all right, Toza. These two are with me."

Toza just scoffed.

"Whatever." Toza said doing his exercises.

"Sorry about him. He's got some issues with a lot of people. Names Bolin by the way." Bolin said.

"Oh we heard about you on the Radio last night." Korra said before he lead them away to the arena.

"What do you think? Best seats in the house, Huh?" Bolin asked.

"Oh wow." Sean said impressed before two others walked in.

"This place is even more amazing than I imagined." Korra said.

"Psst. Bolin."

"Yeah, Mako?" Bolin asked his brother.

"I told you to stop bringing your crazy fans here. Get them out of here." Mako said.

"Oh come on, Mako. Look, I kind promised them they could stay. But I got a good feeling about her. Theres something special about her." Bolin said before rushing to Korra. "Come here, I want you to meet my brother Mako." Bolin said as Mako got geared up.

"Mako? Wow, I heard you play on the Radio last night." Korra said excited.

"Come on, Bolin, We're up." Mako said walking past her.

"And my admiration crashed to hell." Korra said annoyed.

"Yeah, Sorry about that. My brother. just gets real focused before a match. Okay, I gotta go." Bolin said getting his gear on. "Wish me luck. Not that I'll need it." Bolin said making her giggle as they entered the arena.

"Good Luck. Knock them out!" Korra said.

"This should prove interesting

"WHOO-HOO!" Korra cheered before jumping into Sean's arms much to his amusement before she realized what she did and jumped down and looked sheepish. "Sorry I Heh...Got a little excited there." Korra said rubbing her head.

"Oh, I can so easily tell." Sean teased making her frown before punching his shoulder making him smirk before Bolin came back and cheered.

"Whoo-hoo! One more win and we're in the championship. So...What'd you think?" Bolin asked playing it cool but Sean saw what he was really doing and just merely shook his head in amusement.

"Oh that was incredible." Korra said impressed before seeing their water bending teammate threw his gear before leaving.

"Useless." Mako said.

"That was really incredible out there mister Hat trick." Korra said.

"Your still here?" Mako asked making her eyes twitch in annoyance.

"Oh, you're still a major league prick?" Korra asked making Sean chuckle.

"Ok enough." Sean said.

"Anyway. I've been immersed in bending my entire life, But I have never learned how to move like that. It's like there's a. whole new style here." Korra said.

"These are more modern moves. As time moves forward new moves and abilities are made." Sean said.

"Can you show me a few tricks?" Korra asked.

"Sure...But I don't know how my Earth style would work for your water style." Bolin said.

"Not a problem. I'm an Earthbender." Korra said making Sean snicker.

"I'm sorry...I didn't mean to assume I just guessed based on your water tribe getup." Bolin said.

"Oh no. I'm a Water bender and a Fire bender." Korra said while Bolin just blinked before scratching his head.

"I'm very confused." Bolin said.

"Your the Avatar...And I'm an idiot." Mako said.

"No fucking shit." Sean said.

"Both are true." Korra said shocking Bolin.

Minutes later

"All right, Let's see what you two can do." Bolin said.

"I'm not a bender." Sean said.

"No?" Bolin asked before getting a better look at him. "Oh wait a minute you're the God slayer." Bolin said.

"Man is perceptive." Mimir said.

"Who said that?" Mako asked before Sean held Mimir's head.

"Uh." Bolin said uncomfortable.

"Mimir...Say hi." Sean said.

"Hi, I'm Mimir. Smartest man alive." Mimir said making Bolin scream in fright before fainting making Sean and Korra burst out laughing.

"Oh that never gets old." Korra laughed.

They waited for Bolin to wake up.

"Where do you find a talking head?" Bolin asked.

"Long story." Sean said.

"So why does the Chief of Police hate you so much?" Mako asked.

"Cause she's a selfish bitch." Korra said.

"She sees me as nothing but trouble and wants me dead." Sean said.

Next morning

Once more Korra was trying the air bending exercise but like last time she was getting smacked around.

"Patience, Korra." Tenzin said before she lost her temper and started fire bending the thing.

Tenzin and his children looked in shock seeing this. (The Look on Tenzin's face was priceless)

"That was a 2,000 year old historical treasure." Tenzin said in shock. "What...WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!" Tenzin yelled.

"There's nothing wrong with me. I've been practicing, just like you taught me. But it isn't sinking in, Okay? It hasn't clicked like you said it would." Korra said frustrated.

"Korra, this isn't something you can force. If you would only listen to me." Tenzin tried to say.

"I have been! But you know what I think? Maybe the problem isn't me! Maybe the reason I haven't learned airbending yet is because you're a terrible teacher!" Korra yelled before running off.

"AH!" Tenzin said annoyed.

"Yeah you're a terrible teacher daddy." Meelo said.

"Do you want me to get Dojo?" Tenzin asked making him pale.

Korra was at the beach before kicking a rock before feeling a pair of hands on her shoulders.

"Relax." Sean said making her sigh as they sat down.

"I just...I don't know why I'm not getting this." Korra said.

"You will in time. I had some trouble with some of the things Chiron taught me over the years. Some things just take time. You'll get it eventually." Sean said holding her close making her sigh.

"Thanks." Korra said.

Later

Korra and Sean arrived at the arena to see Mako and Bolin to support them for the final match to enter the tournament and get away from the island to help Korra relax.

However when they arrived it was clear something was wrong when they saw their faces.

"Uh oh. This can't be good." Sean said.

"We didn't miss your match, did we? You guys look like you already lost." Korra said.

"We might as well have." Bolin said.

"Hasook's a no-good No-show." Mako said pissed off.

"Oh so thats whats going on. Somehow I'm not surprised." Sean said before the Ref walked in.

"You got two minutes to come out ready to play, or you're disqualified." The Ref said before leaving.

"Well, there goes our shot at the tournament and the winnings." Mako said.

"Can't you ask one of those guys to fill in?" Korra asked looking at another team.

"I don't think it works that way." Sean said.

"It doesn't. You can only play for one team." Bolin said.

"Well, then...How about me?" Korra asked. "I'm a top-Notch water bender, if I do say so myself." Korra said proudly.

"But you're the Avatar. Isn't that cheating?" Bolin asked.

"It's not cheating if she only uses waterbending." Sean said.

"No way, I'd rather forfeit than look like a fool out there." Mako said making her eyes twitch.

"Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence jackass." Korra said before the Ref walked in.

"Times up. You in?" The Ref asked.

"We're in." Korra said.

"We are?" Mako asked.

"Yes!" Bolin said.

"Hey, I didn't agree to this!" Mako said.

"You can thank me later." Korra said getting geared up.

"You'll do just fine." Sean said making her smirk

Meanwhile

Tenzin was looking for Korra but couldn't or Sean for that matter which concerned him.

'I hope Lin hasn't done anything.' Tenzin thought.

So he went to the White Lotus who were listening to the radio on the match.

"Hold on, Folks, we're just waiting for the Referees official call, But I think this replacement player could be..." The announcer said.

"Pardon me, everyone, have you seen Korra or Sean? I can't find them anywhere." Tenzin said.

"You gotta be kidding me. She's the Avatar, Folks! Playing in a pro bending match!"

One female member of the Lotus spit her drink on a fellow member who looked annoyed while Tenzin was red in the face.

"I'll get them myself!" Tenzin yelled before leaving.

At the Arena

"The Avatar will be permitted to continue, so long as she solely bends water." The Ref said making the other team complain.

"Oh boy." Sean said laughing as he watched. Korra had kinda made a fool of herself when it started. But then again she never played before till now.

Just as the match started she got hammered royally hard before falling into the water before he jumped down to the platform to help her up.

"Not exactly very good am I?" Korra asked sheepishly.

"No one is perfect." Sean said helping her up before a shadow came over them making them turn and faced an incredibly annoyed Tenzin. "Oh boy" Sean said.

"Oh, hey, Tenzin. I thought you didn't like coming to these matches." Korra said nervous.

"Once again, you both have flagrantly disobeyed my orders. You both were to stay on the island. Lets go." Tenzin said.

"No. I'm kinda in the middle of something important here." Korra said.

"I have tried my very best to get through to you by being gentle and patient, But clearly the only thing you respond to is force. So I am ordering you to come back to the temple right now." Tenzin ordered.

"Why? So I can sit around and meditate on how bad I am at airbending?" Korra argued.

"Enough." Sean said stopping them. "Just go finish the match." Sean said making her run off.

"Why do you let her do this? She would follow you if you asked her and realize her full potential." Tenzin.

"Tenzin, you can't just focus training into her completely. She'll drop from exhaustion. She needs to have fun added in her life." Sean said as the match began with Korra getting pushed back to the edge.

"Hmm?" Sean asked.

"What is it?" Tenzin asked before Korra actually started using the airbending moves she was taught dodging all of their attacks. "How about that." Tenzin said amazed.

Soon enough Korra and her team won making Tenzin cheer before clearing his throat and left.

Sean walked to Korra as she got out of her gear before she smiled at him.

"You were right. I finally got it." Korra said.

"I told you so. But theres something you need to do." Sean said making her nod.

Later

Tenzin was watching as the Acolytes were putting in the new training equipment before they approached him.

"I'm really sorry about everything I said. I was really frustrated with myself, and I took it out on you." Korra said as he faced them.

"I think I owe you an apology too. I was trying to teach you about patience, but I lost mine." Tenzin said.

"No hard feelings?" Korra asked.

"Of course not. By the way, you were really good out there tonight. You moved just like an Airbender." Tenzin said surprising her.

"Wait you saw?" Korra asked.

"I did. Pro bending proved to be the perfect teaching tool." Tenzin said making her smile.

"I'll see you tomorrow for bending practice. Bright and Early. And, by the way, I kind of permanently joined the fire ferrets, and we're playing in the tournament in a couple of weeks." Korra said as she and Sean ran off making him sigh.

Sean sat under a tree watching the stars.

"Sean?" Korra asked getting his attention as she sat next to him. "Thanks for having faith in me. Even when I didn't have it in myself." Korra said making him smile.

"No problem. I'm always gonna help you out Korra." Sean said making her smile as they looked at the stars.
