On their way driving home, Jack pulled into an ice-cream parlour. "What do you say Lil, want some ice-cream?"
"Yes please."
With that, they walked into the ice-cream parlour. As Jack went into the line, Gabriella whispered to her sister. "Do you want to go help your dad with the ice-cream and tell him what you want?" Seeing her nerves, the junior encouraged her a little more. "If you go line up with your dad, you can get whatever flavour you want."
"Ok what ice-cream do you want?"
"I'm alright Sweet Girl, you just line up with your dad to get yours."
"Ok Bria."
After she left, Lucille spoke up. "It's cute how she calls you Bria."
"Yeah, when she was little, she couldn't say Gabriella properly, she'd say Gabria but it was always so clear that Bria just became a nickname and she loves that she's the only one to use it, it's adorable."
Lucille smiled sadly, "what was she like, you know, when she was little?"
"She was the cutest little thing, she's always been so sweet and kind. She was pretty quiet but I guess that may be because she grew up around me. She's really affectionate and she loves reading and drawing and anything to do with the arts. When we were younger, we'd play music in my room and just sing and dance along to it." She seemed to realise how much she was sharing and started feeling guilty. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sweetheart." The woman laughed to herself. "Jack'll just be disappointed that he won't be able to turn her into a basketball star."
"He likes basketball?"
"He's the coach at East High, our oldest Troy is the captain of the team and Jacob loves when he gets to play with his brother and dad."
"That sounds lovely." The teen realised that she would be joining a very tight-knit family and realised she would be truly out of place there. "I'm sorry that you and Mr Bolton had to foster me, I know that it isn't really what you wanted."
Lucille sighed. "It's not that it's not what we wanted Gabriella, it's just a hard situation to wrap our heads around, I can't say we imagined that when we got our daughter back, we'd be fostering another. It's just a lot to process in a small amount of time and I think it's best for Lilliana to have you there for this transition. Although it breaks our heart for our daughter not to know or trust us and to seek comfort in someone other than us, we know that this is a big change for her and you're someone who she's always gone to for comfort, she needs you with her, especially now. We're all going to have to adjust to some changes. But I meant what I said back there, you are the only reason we have our daughter back and I'll be damned if I let you be placed in the system."
"Thank you Mrs Bolton, I really appreciate all of this."
Their conversation was interrupted when Jack and Lilliana came back with the ice-cream and they got back into the car and drove home. When they arrived, they stood inside by the front door and Jack called out. "Troy, Jakie, can you come here?" The two boys walked downstairs, the 17-year-old had shaggy brown hair and piercing blue eyes while the 7-year-old had the same piercing blue eyes but with blonde hair. Troy seemed to freeze as they saw their parents and the two girls but Jacob looked at them curiously. "Daddy, who are they?"
Jack leant down to the younger sons level. "Do you remember us telling you about your twin sister and saying that she went away for a while?" The boy nodded. "Well Mommy and I went this afternoon to pick her up and now she's back with us, can you go give Lilliana a hug." Jacob nodded and hugged the little girl who returned it, albeit nervously. Jack turned his attention to his oldest son. "Troy, you ok?"
His eyes snapped to the man. "You found her?" Jack nodded and Troy slowly walked towards her, kneeling in front of her. "Hey Lil, I don't think you'll remember me but I'm your big brother, my name's Troy. Can I give you a hug?" Lilliana nodded and hugged her big brother before going back to her sister's side. As the boy stood, his eyes shifted to Gabriella, his gaze hardening. "Who is she and why's she here?"
Lucille narrowed her eyes slightly at his tone. "Her name is Gabriella and we are fostering her."
Lilliana interjected. "She's my sister."
Troy's eyes widened. "She was with her?!"
Jack spoke up. "Troy, that's enough, we can get into all of this later, the important thing is that we finally have Lilliana back." He looked to the girl. "Alright Lil, what would you like for dinner? We can have anything you want."
She looked to Gabriella who shook her head. "Your dad wants to know what you want Sweet Girl, not what I want, it's your choice."
"Chicken stir-fry?"
They look at her quizically and Gabriella jumps in. "It's always been her favourite, literally any sort of chicken stir-fry and she devours it."
Jack smiles. "Alright then, stir-fry it is, the only other thing we have to discuss is rooms since we don't have enough for all of you to get a separate one. We'd initially set it up so Troy, Jacob and Lilliana all had their own rooms so Jakie, how would you feel about sharing a room with your sister?"
He only shrugged and Gabriella spoke up. "I could always sleep on the couch, I don't mind and I'd hate to put you out."
"No Gabriella, you are not sleeping on the couch."
"Well I'd be fine to share with my sister, we mostly did it back home anyway."
Troy rolled his eyes, glaring at her. "Why don't you let Lilliana decide instead of deciding for her." He spoke to his sister softly. "Who do you want to share with Lil?"
"I'll share with Bria."
Seeing that the tension was rising, "alright everyone, the girls have had a big day with all of these changes so how about everyone goes to their rooms, finishes their homework, showers or whatever you guys need to get done while your dad and I make dinner." The children followed the instructions and went into their rooms.
