Chapter 7: Perry Patdown

Bree's POV

After Chase collapsed a few days ago after remembering a few things, Mr. Davenport and I have been working in the lab around the clock to find out what happened. It wasn't the first time he collapsed either! One time when he remembered how he, Adam and Leo fought over that girl at our first ever dance, he fell to the ground and was unconscious for three hours. It must be a sign that maybe his head can't handle the intake of memories.

"BREE! I GOT IT!" Mr. Davenport screams out. You know, working with him in the lab recently has made me realize how loud he shouts when he's thought of another 'genius idea' so I feel a bit bad for Chasey and his bionic hearing. Must go off all the time.

"For what? Is it something to do with Chase?! Have you got a lead?" I beg to know the information. I feel like I've been getting smarter in the last week after finding inventive ways to try and help Chase and also spending time with Davenport in the lab.

"I think we were wrong not to reinstall his newly constructed bionic chip. Made by me by the way, Davenport Industries exclusive," he says, as I roll my eyes.

"What does this mean then?" I question.

"Chase has been a bionic superhuman all of his life so naturally, he has a large memory bank thanks to his bionic chip. With amnesia, the slightest of memories returning could lead to a massive swarm of memories coming back at once. Chase obviously has a lot in his brain, so a pure human brain probably cannot contain all of the information he would have in his head," he answers.

"So does that mean if we reinstall his bionic chip we might be able to save his memory?" I ask.

"It would help us to save it, yeah. But the catch is it makes it harder to get his full memory back. Right now, we might be taking one step forward, three steps back, and then a giant DavenTELEport forward to the mall," he says.

"You can't even talk about saving your son's memory without mentioning your own ego can you?" I inquire.

"Nope," he bluntly replies. "Quick, go get Chase. If you can get him into his capsule, I can put his chip back into the back of his neck. He may still be able to go to school today, as we can try to circumvent the negative effect of taking three steps back and make it just two and a half."

I super speed up to get Chase and bring his sleeping body down within a second. Awwwwww, he looks cute when he sleeps. I could just cuddle him and kiss him right now. Wait, stop it, Bree, focus!

Mr. Davenport and I prop Chase up in his capsule to prepare to put the chip back into his neck.

"Wait, he has to be awake for us to perform the procedure," he says, with an evil laugh following soon after. Oh no…

*BEEP*

Chase screams as he wakes up. Davenport just used airhorns to wake him up. I guess that was a bit far but he didn't have to go that far, I could've just woke him up and told him how much I love him! That would keep him up.

"Okay Chase, focus on me. Look at me," I say. I try to make myself look as cute and hot as possible, just to make sure he's focusing on me so Davenport can put his chip back in. Oh and if he's going to remember anything, I want him to remember the hot Bree, not the sleepy me one that Leo got on his little spy fly thing once.

I can see Chase half smiling at me while I'm standing flicking my hair and trying to get his attention. And then all we hear is a loud "OWWW". I'm assuming his chip has been put in then.

"I'm disabling all of his bionics except his enlarged memory until he has got his memory back. I reckon this could really work Bree…" he says. He genuinely looks so happy. For a guy who I thought was going to quit this, I'm impressed.

"Go tell Adam, Leo, and Tasha the news then! I'll take this loser to school and keep an eye on him. Maybe that'll help jog his memory," I respond with.

"Did you just call the guy you like a loser? That's not the way to go, Bree," Davenport advises. I give him the 'shoo' look and he walks over to the elevator. I guess it's time for school then. Leo and Adam are staying off right now, just for the day so I can focus with Chase. Everybody reckons I'm the best chance of getting his memory back because of how close we were. Says a lot doesn't it?

*time skip to Lunch break*

Chase's POV

Ever since that weird thing that happened this morning in the basement in that tube, I've been remembering things a lot better. Maybe the guy with the enormous amounts of plastic surgery did something? I know he's a good inventor. Even better though, is I'm with that cute girl again. She was trying to keep me focused while the inventor guy was doing something, and looking at her then, I was definitely focused. Wow… apparently, we were really close before I lost my memory. I don't know if it was a relationship or anything but I certainly wouldn't mind it. She's nice and cute enough anyways.

"Listen up maggots," the school speaker announces, "this is your beloved, heroic, and totally not dictatorial Principal Perry speaking here. During lunch today, I'm going to be in the cafeteria to totally not pat down your bags and take anything I think is valuable. See you sweaty pimple-covered slimes in a few minutes!"

"Who's that weird manly-sounding woman on the speaker then?" I ask the girl. Her name will come to me eventually I'm sure.

"That's our principal. She's called Terry Perry, but we have to call her Principal Perry. She's a bit of a power freak. She does things that make me wonder how the hell she's still employed," she laughs. Damn, her laugh is cute as well. I have a feeling that the way I'm talking to you here in my head isn't with terminology I normally would. Wait, did I just break the fourth wall and use a big word? Maybe I'm getting my memory back?

I laugh back and she smiles. I think that made her feel comfortable. She rests her head on my shoulder and grabs my knee and says quietly, "I really hope we can get your memory back to what it was. I miss you."

Yeah, we were definitely close. Must've been relationship level close. I rest my head on her head. This is nice. She's a really nice girl. I hope I don't forget my first thoughts of her when I get my memory back. I've heard I'm a bit of an awkward guy around girls. Thinking of her like this would be a boost.

Suddenly, as I'm enjoying a moment with her (whose name I still can't remember), a short and quite sizeable woman in a pantsuit walks into the cafeteria with a megaphone.

She breaks out of our moment and says "There's Principal Perry. Recognize her?"

I reply simply with, "how the hell have I forgotten her? Just by first impressions, she looks like someone you can not forget. For all the wrong reasons."

I think she overheard me as she approaches me.

"Oh, it's you. The doll looking boy with his barbie looking, ugly and flat not sister," she slithers at us.

"Hey, don't talk to her like that!" I snap back. Nobody is going to talk to her like that whilst I'm around her. I simply won't have it.

"Chasey it's okay, just leave it," she says, pulling my arm back. Seriously? She's just going to take it? Well, she can, but I won't take insults like that thrown at her.

"You think you can talk to me like that because I said the truth about your creepy, weird-looking sister?" Perry argues. I quickly and angrily stand up from my chair and stare Perry down.

"Nobody talks to her like that. Sister or not, she's still the only person helping me right now," I spit at her.

"Helping you with what squat mug?" the dictator barks.

"Uhhh, nothing Principal Perry! Chase and I were just leaving," the girl responds.

"Not so fast Bree!" Perry snaps. BREE! That was it! I knew something would be said that reminds me of her name! "You and doll boy are in detention. After school. For an hour. For a proper pat-down." She approaches us and invades our personal space. "I'm going to search your bag and you. Your rich daddy is gonna pay for my dinner!"

*jump to the end of school and beginning of detention*

Bree's POV

Even when he's forgotten who I am, he still defends me? That's so cute. Maybe those are like his true feelings? He seems like he feels the same way. That little moment we shared in the cafeteria before Perry showed up was amazing. It felt like we were already together and were just picking up from after the 'date' like Krane never happened.

The only problem is though, we're stuck in Principal Perry's maximum-security detention for an hour. What's worse than that? She wants to give us a pat-down for any valuable items. How is she actually allowed to do this and the school board hasn't fired her yet?

Chase and I sit down next to each other in the detention room. Having been in here before, I know that Perry and her secret police have probably even better hearing than Chase. So, I passed a note to him instead. They may have frighteningly good hearing, but they sure are blind as a bat.

The first note said: "Hey :) I really appreciate you standing up for me at lunch… you didn't have to…"

Chase quickly read it and wrote a reply: "I wasn't having her treating you like that. You're so much better than she says, don't worry. She's just jealous of that". Awww, my heart just kind of melted there.

My next note said: "That little moment we had before Perry turned up… I really liked it. I've missed you so much after your memory loss has left you in pieces… it broke my heart."

Whilst Chase was writing his response, Perry turns on her megaphone. Everyone in detention rolls their eyes and groans as we know what's coming next.

"OKAY TEENAGE SWAMPS," she starts. "ME AND THE GALS ARE BORED OF JUST SITTING HERE AND WATCHING YA. SO WE THOUGHT WE'D PLAY A GAME OF PERRY PATDOWN!"

If you didn't know Pain from Perry is, its Principal Perry's codename for patting down the students and mocking them for anything they find in their pockets or bags that they think is worthy of it.

"OKAY BARBIE DOLL, YOU'RE UP FIRST!" she says. HER EYES ARE MAKING CONTACT WITH CHASE… Does Chase have to go first? Oh great… wait where are the notes? Oh shit…

Perry pats down Chase's sides until she reaches his jacket pockets. I assume that's where the notes are… well, this could be embarrassing…

"What are these pieces of paper?" Perry inquires.

"Oh uh, they are nothing, there's nothing you need to see in them," he persists, trying to swipe them out of her hand.

"I wasn't having her treating you like that… so much better than she says… just jealous of that…aww how noble, he's still trying to stand up to me!" she gloats. "Protecting his little girlfriend. You'll be next anyway." She points at me.

I cover my face in my hands. I hope he knows I'm not embarrassed because of him. Perry stomps over to me and swipes all the notes I have. What a total jerk! She's mortifying him in front of the guys in detention. Everyone's laughing at us. I hate this woman so much. She is so fucking lucky murder is against the law. Or I would've had her done ages ago. He's looking at the floor totally embarrassed and horrified… This is my fault… I shouldn't have brought him to school. It's a good thing his bionics are disabled or else Spike would've come out a looooooong time ago.

"Anything to say turd wipe?" she mocks at Chase.

Chase looks up and approaches Perry. "I may have amnesia right now, and I'm struggling to find out who I am again, but what I do know is that Bree deserves better than how you're treating her. Actually, everybody in this school deserves better than you."

Him standing up to Perry… wow… never thought I'd see that. He's kinda hot doing that. It's making my heart smile this. He has amnesia but is still standing up to someone who's being unfair to someone. I'm so happy he's getting back to who he was before. I don't care how long it takes. I will be there for him.

Chase's POV

Enough is enough. I am not having Perry attacking her for no reason like that! I don't care if mentioning my amnesia sounds like I'm playing a victim card; actually, I don't even know if I was supposed to mention my amnesia publicly, but I have had the last straw with this Perry woman. I know she is the principal and she does this to everybody but someone has to stand up to her. Me knowing how much of a dictator she is doesn't have anything to do with me regaining any memory; lost memory Chase has been here for a day and even he knows that this principal is a neo-Nazi.

"You are one brave little guy aren't you?" Perry says. She stares at me with rage in her eyes. I didn't budge. I think that made her back down. Most people by now would've sat down and shut up and accepted it. Not me. I hope even if I get my memory back I can keep this level of courage. I don't think old me ever had that. I stay silent and keep my eyes fixated on her.

"Tell you what, I like that you stood up to me. You can sit down and your little lover can come up next," the principal speaks. Before I can say anything, Bree tugs my arm and shakes her head saying 'no' to me, and stands in front of me.

I can't believe she's letting herself get patted down. I don't like this.

Perry reads out the remaining notes and we get more funny looks from the other people in detention. This is embarrassing but I do like how Bree wasn't scared of her either anymore. She's just there playing with her hair and nails like she doesn't care. She probably does care but she's doing well to keep her composure and not trying to hit Perry. I would've by now. Even with my so-called puny arms.

After Perry is done with Bree, we sit quietly until the end of detention. We are at the back though, so we manage to stay together and we occasionally broke the touching barrier. It was nice spending time with her, even if it was when Perry was publicly humiliating us.

After the end of detention, Bree walks out quickly and waits outside for me. We walk awkwardly a few steps before I stop her and grab her arms. She looks at the floor. I think she really is upset and feels embarrassed.

"Bree, I know that was insanely awkward and we were mocked by her and the other guys in detention… but I have to say, I weirdly enjoyed getting patted down by an oversized lady wearing a pantsuit, because it was with you," I say, cracking an awkward smile.

She looks up at me and hugs me. "I weirdly enjoyed it too because I was with the best guy I know," she says. That makes me feel absolutely amazing. "Thank you for standing up to her. That really meant a lot to me. Just like you do."

She locks her hand with mine, and we walk home from detention together, holding hands the whole way. I love spending time with her, I really want to keep this even after I get my memory back. I am more determined than ever to fix my memory issue. If not for me, for her.
