Without further delay, who's ready to find out just what Dobby did that started the Slytherins in the negative?
The next morning, Harry woke early and laid in bed thinking about Fawkes visit last night. Fawkes had seemed nervous when he arrived in Harry's mindscape, and with only a quick greeting went to check the flame at the center. After checking on it, Fawkes and Harry sat, or perched in Fawkes case, in the sitting area where they held most of Harry's meditation exercises. Once they were settled, Harry started rattling off questions in a way that would make Hermione look in a mirror.
"What was that thing? Why did my magic react the way it did? Why did that creature come into our cabin? Why did it flinch when I held my magic up to it? What was the light that chased the creature off the train? What am I going to do if more of those things attack at once?" Harry asked, stopping only once he had run out of breath.
Before Harry could catch his breath, Fawkes answered as best he could. "That creature was known as a Dementor; a foul creature that feeds on humans with or without the gift of magic, be careful around them as they don't merely feed on emotions but can steal a person's very soul. Your magic sensed the danger to itself and those you hold dear, and rose to protect itself and them. As Albus said, the Dementors have been let loose to hunt for Sirius Black, they seem to have been searching the train for him. Dementors are as close to the opposite of a Phoenix as you can get, and your magic holds a portion of my magic; when you raised your fire against it, it not only felt the heat of the flame but the purity of Phoenix magic.
"The magic that chased the creature and its ilk off the train was known as the Patronus Charm, a powerful and complex piece of magic that calls on your spirit guardian to manifest and protect you, along with carry messages for you if you can master the spell. In small numbers, the charm I guided you to perform last night will keep them at bay and wound any that the flame burns. I shall attempt to teach you the Patronus Charm, though the help of Professor Lupin might make things easier."
Fawkes looked at Harry with concern, though he was proud of him for his actions on the train. He hadn't expected the foul beasts to board the train, nor the effect they would still have on Harry. He sung a relaxing note and then advised Harry they wouldn't be training tonight and for Harry to get some rest. As Harry relaxed and allowed himself to dream, Fawkes went deeper into the mindscape to check on things Harry wasn't yet aware of.
FG
On the floor above the core; was a sealed room, with a door that showed signs of wear, bathed in fire. On the other side of the door Fawkes could hear ranting, and the echoes of anger and fear. He gave the door a baleful glare before moving on to a room just down the hall, whose door had a cradle etched into it. The door was slightly open, and when Fawkes entered the room, it was a mess. This room held Harry's memories of his time before the Dursleys. In the center of the room was arguably Harry's most painful memory, the night Voldemort attacked Godric's Hollow. The memory took the shape of a picture book, the page it was opened to was of Lily standing between Harry and Voldemort.
Fawkes sighed and gave a mournful trill before focusing on his magic and setting the room back in order. He was deep in thought as he made his way back to the lounge of Harry's mindscape. It seemed to him that if Harry's magic hadn't reacted the way it did, Harry would have been dragged into reliving the evening he was made an orphan. Once he made his way to where he entered, finding Harry asleep on the couch with a blanket draped over him, he left after a fond gaze at the sleeping Harry.
FG
He was brought back to focus by a particularly loud snore from Ron and groaning coming from Neville's bed. Taking that as the cue to get up, Harry greeted Neville as he was climbing out of bed before making his way to the bathroom. By the time Harry got back, the rest of the boys in his year were awake, even if Dean and Seamus were glaring at a half-asleep Ron; and Neville heading towards the bathroom to get ready for the day.
Once the boys were ready, they made their way down to the common room and found Hermione and Ginny waiting on them. Ginny looking almost as tired as her brother, while Hermione looked like she'd been up for hours and was reading one of her new course books. Once Hermione noticed Harry, Neville, and Ron, she put her book back in her bag and they all headed out the portrait hole and made their way down to breakfast.
As they entered the Great Hall, they saw Luna sitting at the Ravenclaw table with a bowl of porridge that was the base for a tower of fruit. Harry couldn't help but chuckle, while Hermione looked exasperated. They waved to her before heading to the Gryffindor table and fixing themselves breakfast. Once the majority of the students were in the Hall, the Professors responsible for the four houses walked down the tables and handed out the students' yearly course schedule.
After another ten minutes, during which the students discussed their schedules with each other, the owls swooped in from above to deliver the morning mail. There was the usual delivery of forgotten books and ingredients that students had left behind in the hurry to catch the Hogwarts Express the previous day, some students receiving treats. What really caught everyone's attention was the delivery of The Daily Prophet, as soon as it arrived everyone with a copy and those near them all went quiet. Then came the snickering, the giggling, and the sound of a few losing their breakfast. To the surprise of anyone who noticed, even Luna Lovegood got a copy.
Hermione held her copy of the paper and was shocked speechless. After Harry and Neville got her attention to ask what was wrong, she numbly handed the paper over to Harry before shutting her eyes tight. The boys looked at each other before unfolding the paper to the front page.

Scandal at Hogsmeade
By Rita Skeeter
"Dear readers, we all know about the Malfoy family; powerful and wealthy, respectable and high standing members of our society. Lucius Malfoy sits on the Hogwarts Board of Governors, a member of the Wizengamot and contributes to Saint Mungo's, while his wife takes care of the house and oversees their charitable donations. Their heir, young Drago Malfoy, is just starting his third year at our most prestigious school, Hogwarts.
What could such an outstanding family have to do with trouble yesterday in the only all magic town in Britain. This reporter witnessed the event first hand as I was waiting on the arrival of the Hogwarts Express, I was hoping to get an interview with this year's Defense Professor, one Rufus Lupus.
It was just after noon when all of a sudden there was a loud noise coming from the ladies' room. The door burst open and three boys stepped out, dressed in ladies' clothes. Not just any ladies' clothes, but three upstanding ladies; myself, Madam Rosmerta, and Madam Umbridge. I just had to see what was going on.
The two larger boys were dressed up as Madam Umbridge and myself, while the shorter boy was dressed up as Madam Rosmerta. The larger boys were blushing and stuttering while the shorter boy looked like they were about to have a fit. The larger boys were Vincent Crab and Gred Goyle, the fuming young man was Drago Malfoy.
What were they doing dressed as ladies in The Three Broomsticks while they should have been riding the Hogwarts Express? What will their parents think when they hear of this? Mr. Malfoy, when I ask them this, refused to answer, only stating 'Wait till my father hears of this.' Misters Crab and Goyle refused to speak and looked quite scared. Before I could ask anything else, the Head of Slytherin, Professor Snape came hurrying in. He seemed to be stunned by what he found but collected his early students and hurried them out the door.
Madam Rosmerta stared at where the boys were, dumbfounded, before hurrying back to her customers. I quickly wrote down what had happened and headed straight to The Prophet. What will Mr. Malfoy's father do? What will Madam Umbridge say when she hears of this? I'll be sure to keep you all up to date.

~~ Daily Prophet~~
Below the article was a moving picture of Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle in women clothing. By the time they had finished reading the article the entire Hall was laughing. The article didn't tell everything, but the students figured out this was probably why Slytherin was in the negative. The glares from the Slytherin students pointed out the three newest celebrities, they were so embarrassed they looked like someone had used a color changing charm on them, cherry red. Professor Snape rose from the head table and rushed down the Slytherin table, before escorting the three out of the Hall.
Harry looked over towards Luna and smiled, she was clutching her sides in laughter. They finished up their breakfast and headed towards their first classes of the day. Harry, Hermione and Neville went up to the seventh floor for Arithmancy and Ron headed to the north tower for Divination. Luna followed shortly, frowning slightly at Hermione.
FG
During the Arithmancy class, Professor Vector gave her introductory speech and walked them through the basic chart. For homework, she told them to copy the chart they had used from their book. As Harry and Neville walked towards Transfiguration, they lost track of Hermione. When they got near the class, Hermione was coming from the other direction with Ron. While Harry and Neville thought this was odd, they were distracted by a very worried Ron.
Before they could ask what was wrong, Hermione hurried them into the class. When they entered the class, there were instructions on the board and a black cat sitting on the desk. The majority of the class seemed distracted, though Harry was distracted for another reason. Harry's true sight was slightly active and he saw the cat had the same magical effect as Ron's rat and the dog in Surrey. 'Where was Professor McGonagall?'
After several more minutes of the students struggling to focus, the cat frowns and leaps off the desk before morphing into Professor McGonagall. While she didn't get the reaction that she was expecting from the rest of the class, she notices the strong response of surprise from Harry. With a sense of concern, she thought it looked like the same reaction Harry had when he'd revealed the trouble with Neville's wand. 'Best talk to him after class.'
"What has you all so distracted, today?" asked Professor McGonagall. ~ "Not that it matters, but that's the first time my transformation's not got applause from a class." ~
Everyone but Harry turned to look at Ron, who looked miserable and worried, but nobody spoke. Then Hermione raised her hand.
~ "Please, Professor, we've just had our first Divination class and we were reading the tea leaves, and – "
"Ah, of course," said Professor McGonagall, suddenly frowning. "There is no need to say any more, Miss Granger. Tell me, which of you will be dying this year?" ~
Ron stuttered, "Someone important to me. She said someone close to me would be leaving me soon."
"I see." Said Professor McGonagall, fixing Ron with her beady eyes. "Then you should know, Mr. Weasley, that Sybill Trelawney has predicted the death of one student a year since she arrived at this school. None of them have died yet. Seeing death omens is her favorite way of greeting a new class. If it were not for the fact that I never speak ill of my colleagues –"
~ Professor McGonagall broke off, and they saw that her nostrils had gone white. She went on, more calmly, "Divination is one of the most imprecise branches of magic. I shall not conceal from you that I have very little patience with it. True Seers are very rare, and Professor Trelawney – "~
"Despite you, Mr. Weasley, looking like you could do with a calming drought or a cheering charm, you all seem to be perfectly well. If one of you was to go missing, you need not hand in your homework." Professor McGonagall said.
That got a smirk from Ron and chuckles from the rest of the class. "Mr. Potter, a word after class. Now everyone, please return to your reviewing of chapter 2 in intermediate transfiguration." The rest of the class was quiet except for the scratching of quills and the turning of pages. As the class studied, Professor McGonagall watched Harry carefully, and was concerned to notice his magic flaring slightly.
When class was dismissed for lunch, Professor McGonagall reminded Harry to stay after class. When the rest of the students had left, Professor McGonagall waved her wand at the door, shutting and locking it. "Now, Mr. Potter. What seems to be the problem?"
Harry was confused why she would ask that, and it must have shown on his face.
Professor McGonagall sighed before saying, "Mr. Potter, I have been teaching here for more than fifty years. In that time, you tend to pick up on the signs that something is bothering one of the students. Admittedly, we unfortunately don't always pay attention to those signs and that tends to harm the students. I also was your father's head of house and teacher, so I got very familiar with his expressions; though you didn't get much time with him, I still see those same expressions from you on occasion. During class you had the same look as when you came to me about the Philosopher's stone and again with Mr. Longbottom's wand. You are very observant, Mr. Potter, what seems to be the problem?"
Harry was still wary about trusting her with one of his secrets, but saw he would need her help with this. "Professor, at the end of last year I developed another magical gift. Given how the school reacted to my last reveal of a hidden skill I wasn't eager to share this. It's a form of Mage Sight, it allows me to see magic; when an item or animal is magical, they glow and if the magic is active, they shine. That's how I noticed Neville's old wand not working with him.
"I also noticed that unlike the rest of the rats that shone when we turned them into goblets, Ron's rat was already covered in a murky magical swirl. I didn't know what it was, but wasn't comfortable bringing it up. Over the summer, when I left privet drive, I saw a big dog with the same effect, though the magical swirl was less murky. When you're in your cat form, you shine with a magical swirl as well. I think the dog and Ron's rat, might be like you, I think the term was animagus."
While Harry had been speaking, Professor McGonagall had a hard time keeping her face stoic. She knew that Harry was an astonishing boy, but if what Harry was saying was true, it boggled the mind. A part of her could understand not wanting to reveal this, with how he had been treated last year. If Harry was right in his assumption, he had more rite to be worried than he thought; a magical dog, if not a dog animagus, in Surry the night he ran away, and a potential animagus living in hiding in the boy's dormitory. After a moment to focus herself, and raise some occlumency shields, she said, "Mr. Potter, have you told this to anyone else?"
Harry responded, "Only those closest to me and Madam Longbottom. It might be important to let her know about this, if you do please tell her I told you about one of my gifts and about my concerns about Scabbers. I'll be honest, Professor, I have a few more secrets, but I would prefer not to share them at this time."
Her occlumency shields took an internal beating from that, but she kept it to raising her eyebrows almost to her hair. "Very well, Mr. Potter. Thank you for trusting me with this. Hurry off to lunch now, don't want to take a new class on an empty stomach." She said, giving him one of her rare small smiles she mostly saved for Hermione.
Professor McGonagall waved her wand at the door, unlocking it, and Harry hurried off for lunch. Professor McGonagall was right, he didn't want to take Care of Magical Creatures on an empty stomach. After Harry rushed off to lunch, Professor McGonagall stepped briskly to her office. She had a floo call to make.
FG
When Professor McGonagall reached her office, she went straight to the fire place mantle and grabbed a pinch of floo powder from its hiding place. She couldn't just leave it out in the open with the occasional student needing to visit her office to see her. She locked the door before summoning a comfy mat in front of the fireplace and threw the powder in, calling "Longbottom Hall."
She then got on her knees and stuck her head in the emerald fire. After a few dizzying moments she was looking out the fireplace of the Longbottom greeting room. It was a few moments before Jules popped in and addressed her. "Missy McGonagall, what does you be needing. Mistress be busy and away at the moment."
"It involves Mr. Potter and potentially young Mr. Longbottom. Please let her know that Mr. Potter advised I speak to her before addressing some troubling concerns that have arisen." Professor McGonagall said.
Jules bowed before responding, "Yes, Missy McGonagall. Jules can do this. If Mistress is willing, should Jules bring her to your office?" Jules may not be as brash as Dobby, but he could see how his Mistress and heir Potter both appreciated Dobby's initiative.
Professor McGonagall thought about that for a moment before responding. "Yes, Jules. That would be agreeable, its currently lunch time so I have half an hour before my next class. If you can't get her to come, please advise her I feel I must act before nightfall." Jules bowed before popping away. With that, Professor McGonagall pulled her head out of the fireplace and rose to her feet.
Professor McGonagall moved to her desk before asking for an elf, one of the castles house elves quickly popped into her office and bowed. "Thank you, I would like a tray of sandwiches and tea for two brought up please." The elf bowed again before popping away for a moment before returning with a large tray piled with sandwiches and a tea set. Professor McGonagall thanked the elf again before it bowed and popped away. 'I hope Augusta comes, there is enough sandwiches here to feed the Weasleys.' She grabbed one of the sandwiches and started preparing the tea the way they both like it.
FG
Augusta was once again at Potter Manor, visiting and planning with Harry's parents. They were just about to take a break so Augusta could get some lunch when Jules popped in behind Augusta. "Apologies Mistress, but Missy McGonagall called the Hall for you. Said it had to do with young master and heir Potter. Said heir Potter advised her to call, that there be trouble best settled before nightfall. She be taking her lunch in her office if you'd be willing to meet her."
Augusta didn't respond immediately, she wouldn't allow herself to, despite a part of her wanting to rush to the school. What could possibly have happened already that has Harry calling for her on the first day of classes back. She looks at Lily and James portraits and they both seem concerned. "Augusta, please go see what is wrong. We're a little stuck at the moment." Lily asks before James makes one of his horrible jokes, which Lily and his mother slap him for.
After glaring at James for a moment she nods sharply and rises from the chair that was provided for her. "Let's go get this sorted out. I doubt Harry would advise Minerva to speak to me about something if it wasn't important, he's got the Potters' bad habit of taking the world's problems on their shoulders." Augusta said, before grabbing Jules offered hand and popping off to Hogwarts.
While most of those that could hear Augusta's comment were embarrassed or annoyed about it, Fleamont Potter said, "Much as I hate to admit it, she's got a point." Causing most near him to glare at him but nod.
FG
Just as Minerva was finishing making the cups of tea, Augusta popped in with Jules. "Hungry Minerva?" Augusta asked with a smirk.
Minerva smirked before saying, "Well, I asked for sandwiches and tea for two. The castle elves were eager as ever." Minerva offered Augusta a tea cup.
"Thank you, Jules. I'll call for you when I'm ready to leave." Augusta said, nodding to her house elf. Jules bowed low and popped away. "Now, Minerva. What was so important I had to come immediately? I was discussing matters with old friends when Jules popped in saying you needed a word about my grandson and Mr. Potter." Augusta said, after taking the offered tea cup.
After taking a sip of her tea, Minerva answered. "After class, Mr. Potter told me about a rare gift he has, but due to the reactions of the students last year chose not to reveal it last year. According to Mr. Potter, he can see magic at work. I am aware that very rarely some children are born with an innate skill for magic sight, but that skill is said to be rarer than the metamorphmagus skill. He told me he sees the same magical effect around Ronald Weasley's rat, Scabbers, as he saw with my animagus form, though apparently the rats much murkier. Mr. Potter told me he felt it was important I inform you of this, also relaying that he told me one of his secrets. Would you happen to know more of them?"
Augusta didn't answer right away, she was still going over everything she had just heard. 'An animagus rat, living in the boy's dorm with Neville and Harry? And just one secret, not all; I'll have to play this carefully.' After stalling another moment by taking another sip of tea, she answered. "I wouldn't claim to know all the secrets of an heir of a Most Ancient and Noble house, but I have been made aware of several. If he hasn't seen fit to make you aware of the same, I must respect his wishes. He showed wisdom in knowing there were things he would need help with, and chose to trust me. I'm not about to break that trust."
Augusta sat her cup down before asking a question of her own. "What type of rat is it we're talking about, and are there any identifiers?" She had a feeling Harry had a very good reason for calling on her now.
After frowning at the two barbs from her old friend, she started describing Scabbers. "It's a male brown garden rat; that Ronald's older brother Percy brought with him in his first year, before passing it to Ronald when he came for his first year while Percy got a new owl. It's missing a toe on its front paw." She stopped, having noticed that Augusta had gone rather rigid and she could feel the magic reacting to Augusta's emotions. "Augusta, what is wrong? Besides a potential animagus sleeping in the same room as five teenage boys."
Before Augusta could answer, Jules popped in with a calming draught, worry on his face. He could feel his Mistress's rage all the way back at Longbottom Hall. She was in such a state, she didn't trust herself to open her mouth without going on a tirade; she snapped her fingers at Jules, trusting him to understand what to do. Jules cast a measured Elven calming spell, allowing her to drink her potion. "Thank you, Jules. Would you please inform Harry that I believe his suspicions were correct, and if he would please come here?" Jules popped away with a bow.
Noticing Minerva's raised eyebrows, and the concern on her face, Augusta sighed and grabbed a sandwich. "From what you have told me, I understand why Harry called me here. However, I can't reveal much more without his leave. He confided in me, but he clearly doesn't have faith in most adults." By the time she finished that sandwich, Harry was knocking on the door.
After being let in, he thanked Augusta for coming before taking the offered seat in front of Professor McGonagall's desk. "Harry, it seems you were right to be concerned. However, I can't tell her what we both suspect unless I can inform her of more of your secrets than your eyes." Augusta said.
They both watched him as he thought, it was clear he was not eager to release more of his secrets. After several moments, Harry appeared to come to a decision. "Professor McGonagall, as my Head of House, can I have your word that, unless needed to by law, what we discuss will not leave this room. In turn, I give you my word as the Heir of the Ancient and Noble House of Potter, that I will speak the truth as I know it." Harry's magic flared around him, waiting for Minerva's response.
Minerva was flabbergasted, she was learned enough in magic to tell it wasn't just Harry's magic that filled the room but the Family magic of the House of Potter. He was so reluctant to part with his secrets that he all but demanded a binding magical oath of secrecy. One more thing was very clear, this was her last chance to regain the young heirs' trust. "I, Minerva McGonagall, Head of Gryffindor House, give my word that unless forced by law, what is discussed in this room shall not leave this room." Her magic flared in answer, answering the young heirs' and sealing the oath.
Harry nodded before he began. "On the night of my birthday, I left my Aunt and Uncles home on Privet Drive after Vernon's sister berated and slandered my parents with the lies Vernon had told for years to conceal the truth. From there I intended to make my way to Neville's home but was met by a dog I believe to be an Animagus, I startled the dog and it charged, leading me to discover another magical gift, that I shall not reveal at this time, that got me away and to Augusta's. From there I was met by Fawkes, without the knowledge of Dumbledore, who took me to Potter Manor.
There I learned more about my gifts and what it meant to be the heir of House Potter. I also found my parents portraits, hanging along with all the Heads of House Potter and their spouses. I learned that Sirius Black was not the traitor of my parents, he was the decoy. The true traitor was Peter Pettigrew. My father, Sirius and Pettigrew all became animagus to help a friend in their school years. My father was a stag, Sirius Black was a large black dog, and Pettigrew was a brown rat. I also know that Sirius Black was and is still my Godfather by magical oath. I believe that Scabbers is actually Peter Pettigrew, and the black dog in Surrey was Sirius. My parents asked me to bring Madam Longbottom to them so that they might catch the traitor, and I wouldn't have to worry about it. That's Hogwarts for you where I'm concerned, and it's not even Halloween yet." Harry finished with a snark.
Minerva could only sit there and blink, trying to take in all that she had just been told. She turned to Augusta before asking, "What identified it as Pettigrew?"
"The missing toe on his front paw. The night Sirius was arrested and sent straight to Azkaban, without a trial I might add, there was a confrontation between Sirius and Pettigrew. The aurors assumed Sirius killed him because all they could find was a giant hole, twelve dead bodies and a severed pinkie finger. We need that rat to prove Sirius's innocence of betrayal and murder." Augusta replied.
Minerva considered this before requesting to bring in Madam Bones. "She is the Head of the DMLE, Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She's also the regent of the House of Bones and if memory serves, the only girl Sirius ever got serious with." She then winced at the pun; she had fallen for too many of them when the scoundrel was a student here.
"The Houses of Potter and Bones have also been long standing allies, Harry. I would advise this. With her help, Pettigrew will be behind bars before nightfall and we can finally get your Godfather the trial he should have gotten years ago." Augusta added.
Harry munched on an offered sandwich while he thought it through. He saw a few problems that might arise, key among them Dumbledore interfering. Finally, he decided it was worth the risk, the alternative was knowingly sleeping in the same room as the traitor who got his parents killed. He didn't trust himself not to set Ron's bed on fire, killing them both in a fit of rage. He sighed and cast the tempus charm. "Very well, let's try to get her here. I'd prefer to speak to her myself, but if she's busy at the moment I'll have to leave it to you two."
As soon as he finished speaking, Dobby popped in. With a nod from Minerva, Harry turned to the hyper elf. "Dobby, please find Madam Bones and ask her if she would meet with us in Professor McGonagall's office. If she is agreeable, pop her over. Do not just grab her, she's important and I need her assistance." Dobby bowed low and popped away.
Less than a minute later, Madam Amelia Bones stood in Minerva's office. Crisp aurar uniform, strawberry blonde hair, much like her niece, tinged with grey, and a monocle that Harry could see was enchanted. "Professor McGonagall, what is of such importance it warrants the use of the personal elf of an heir? I was in my office; you could have just floo called."
Minerva conjured another chair for Madam Bones. "Please, sit down Madam Bones. It seems there is an unregistered animagus staying in the third year Gryffindor boy's dorm. If we are correct, it seems this individual is the key witness to betrayal and murder. This is Harry Potter; he and Mr. Longbottom reside in the same dorm."
Madam Bone's monocle fell off her face after being informed why she was there and looking at Harry. Along with several other enchantments, her monocle was enchanted with mage sight and Mr. Potter was almost blinding. "Very well, we have a lot to discuss and not much time. Mr. Potter still has his afternoon classes to get to."
They talked until Minerva had to hurry Harry along to his Care of Magical Creatures class.
FG
Harry made it to Hagrid's hut for class just as the bell rang from the castle. Harry joined Ron, Hermione and Neville while they waited for Hagrid to come out. Ron was snickering quietly while looking over towards the Slytherin. Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle were standing away from the rest of the Slytherins. Hagrid came out of his hut and greeted everyone before telling them to follow him. They followed him along the edge of the Forbidden Forest, with some of the class looking concerned being this close to the Forest.
After five minutes of walking, they came to a paddock on the edge of the forest. "Right, now if you all would get out your books and turn to…" Hagrid was interrupted by Pansy Parkinson saying "How?"
"How do we do that?" Pansy asked, holding up her book, wrapped in a tie.
"Did none of figure it out?" Hagrid asked with a look of disappointment. "You need to stroke the spine. I thought they were neat."
Pansy scowled before stroking the spine of the book. The book stopped growling and Pansy untied the tie. The rest of the class did the same without scowling.
"Now, you all wait here. I'll be back in just a minute. While I'm gone, open your books to the chapter on Winged Beasts." Hagrid said, then moved off into the forest.
While Hagrid was gone, the Gryffindors opened their books while the Slytherins started talking and joking. Several of them were mocking Hagrid, calling him a foolish oaf. This got scowls from the Gryffindors.
Before anything could happen between the students, Hagrid came back with a dozen winged creatures following him on leashes. The creatures have the hind legs, tail and body of horses and the front legs and head of an eagle. Just behind the joints of the front legs, the creatures have folded up wings with eagle feathers. Hagrid placed all but one of them in the paddock before leading the remaining one up to the class.
"Class, these majestic creatures are Hippogriffs! Very smart and extremely proud, the last thing you want to do is insult a Hippogriff. This fine fellow is named Buckbeak, who wants a closer look?" Hagrid said, clapping his hands together and smiling. The class looked scared before the majority stepped back. Harry and Neville were left standing in front of them, looking surprised.
"Marvelous, I didn't think I'd have two volunteers. Ok, so who wants to go first?" Hagrid asked, beaming.
Harry and Neville looked at each other for a moment, before Neville nodded for Harry to go first. Harry took a calming breath before nodding sharply and stepping forward. Neville stepped back to give Harry room.
"Fantastic, thank you Harry." Hagrid said, clapping Harry on the back. "Now, the first thing you want to do is bow; it shows the Hippogriff you respect it. While bowed, keep eye contact and try not to blink; they don't trust people that blink too much."
Harry closed his eyes before opening them, locking eyes with Buckbeak, stepped forward and bowed. Buckbeak did not respond immediately, making Hagrid fear for Harry's safety for a moment, before Buckbeak bowed for Harry. Most of the class let out held breaths before cheering, while Hagrid was clapping loudly.
"Great job, Harry! You can approach him now and pet him." Hagrid said, nudging Harry closer to the hippogriff. It wasn't the first thing Harry would have preferred to do, but he approached and put his left hand on the beak, while putting his right hand on the feathery shoulder. To Harry's surprise, Buckbeak leaned into his touch. As he looked into Buckbeak's large eye, Harry saw several things that surprised him; clear intelligence, confidence, pride and a look he had only ever seen in his house elves, loyalty. Harry didn't know why, but it amazed and moved him, causing him to grin broadly.
"He seems to like you, Harry. He'll probably let you ride him." Hagrid said, and picked Harry up and put him on Buckbeak's back. "Now don't pull out any feathers, he won't like that." Giving Harry barely enough time to grab on, Hagrid slaps Buckbeak's flank and sends them galloping. Harry grabs onto Buckbeak's shoulders just before they take off flying, quickly climbing over the trees.
After a few seconds for Harry to overcome the shock and slight fear for not being in control while in the air, he began to relax; watching the beating of the wings and feeling Buckbeak's heart beating and his deep breaths. A small voice at the back of his mind told him this felt right. They flew over the trees before shooting over the Black Lake. Buckbeak skimming the water at speed with one of his talons. As Buckbeak was having fun and showing off, Harry noticed something in the water; a large green humanoid fish, holding a spear and looking surprised. 'Was that a merman?' Harry thought, losing track of it quickly.
Buckbeak flew a lap around the lake before taking Harry back over the trees and to the paddock where Hagrid had led him and others from their Flight for the class. As he came in for a landing, back winging to land neatly in the paddock, Hagrid was clapping before coming over with a dead ferret and the class was cheering. 'I am rather impressive, aren't I?' Buckbeak thought smugly to himself, as he bowed to let the student climb off his back.
After Harry's example, most of the class was eager to try. None of the other hippogriffs appeared as open with the students as Buckbeak, so the rest of the students stayed on the ground and the hippogriffs each got a ferret after letting a student near them. Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle refused to go near the paddock, each losing five points for Slytherin, but they just scoffed and sneered at Hagrid and the hippogriffs.
The class came to an early end though after one of the Slytherins, Pansy Parkinson, decided to ignore Hagrid's warning when he was showing off the hippogriffs, never insult them. The class had been going well, having no trouble. 'Clearly they aren't as dangerous as that oaf suggested.' Pansy thought. Unfortunately for her, she had Buckbeak, who had already allowed her close enough to pet him. "I don't see what the big deal with these things are. They're ugly and smelly. I should have taken something else."
Buckbeak was rather insulted and let her know it. He screeched and spread out his wings suddenly, catching Pansy off guard and knocking her off her feet, where she scoffed before looking at Buckbeak and screamed. He had reared up on his hind legs and was about to bring his talons down on her when sudden the air between them got very hot. The temperature rose further, producing a visual heat haze, which started to hurt the hippogriffs sensitive eagle legs. Buckbeak backed away on his horse legs, flapping its wings to keep balance. Pansy took the opportunity scoot back along the ground, not caring for once about the state of her robe until she was with the other Slytherins.
"Back Buckbeak, back!" Hagrid said loudly, quickly getting between Pansy and Buckbeak. Once Pansy made it back to her house mates, Hagrid called "All right, everyone out of the Paddock!" All the students quickly exited and the hippogriffs all moved to the other side from the students. Buckbeak glared back at the student in green that insulted him and screeched at her. He looked to the student that he had let ride him, glared balefully and warbled, the student still had his left hand raised and was sweating.
Once the hippogriffs were settled, Hagrid turned to the class. "That class is why you never insult a hippogriff. Ms. Parkinson, you were very lucky for that sudden heat wave in there. Ten points from Slytherin. Now, I want you all to read up on hippogriffs and turn in a twelve-inch essay on how to handle them. Now, get back up to the castle, class is over." The Slytherins were scowling at Pansy for mouthing off now that she wasn't in danger.
"That beast nearly kills me and I lose house points?! That animal deserves to be punished, not me! This class is stupid and they have the castle oaf teaching it, my parents will hear about his." Pansy was about to storm off, but Hagrid surprised everyone with two more sentences.
"Ms. Parkinson, that will be another ten points from Slytherin and Detention, for disrespecting a Professor. Have no doubt, your parents will hear about this, from me." Pansy's face paled for a moment before turning red. She screamed, stomped her feet, and stormed back up to the castle. The Slytherins were so stunned, they just started moving up to the castle, while the Gryffindor's talked excitedly and shouted encouragement to their new favorite teacher. After Hagrid told them to get going again, the Gryffindor class walked up to the castle, talking about the class.

Harry was distracted during the last two classes of the day. His mind kept drifting towards Professor McGonagall's office. Just as the last class was ending, Luna walked in and passed a note to Professor Flitwick. After reading the note, Professor Flitwick nodded and said, "Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, please report to your Head of House after class."
While Ron looked surprised and confused, Harry looked towards Luna and raised an eyebrow. She was still smiling, but Harry could see she looked tense. She noticed Harry's unasked question and nodded. Luna then left the room, waiting outside until the class left. As Harry and Ron left the room and started moving away, Luna started walking with them. "Harry." Luna said, getting Harry's attention.
"What's up, Luna? We need to get to Professor McGonagall's office." Harry said, looking eager and anxious. He wanted this meeting done and to go well. Harry subconsciously looked towards the pocket he knew Ron was hiding Scabbers in.
"You remember what I said, right?" Luna asked quietly. Ron didn't seem to notice as they were still walking, he was trying to think of why they would be asked to Professor McGonagall's office.
"Yes, I remember. I noticed it during Transfiguration. I alerted Professor McGonagall, she called in Madam Longbottom, who called in Madam Bones. I don't know if I could sleep in Gryffindor tower comfortably if what I suspect is true. You bringing this up all but confirms it. I don't think I'd be able to resist." Harry whispered back.
Luna grabs one of his hands, squeezes it, and they walk the rest of the way without her letting go. She knew this would be hard for him, but he's right. If he had confronted him without the aid of the adults he trusts, the odds would be even at best.
When they were outside the door to McGonagall's office, Luna let go of Harry's hand. She gave him another smile and whispered into his ear, "Remember control, Professor McGonagall won't appreciate her furniture catching fire."
Harry nodded and followed Ron inside. Once they entered and closed the door, Luna called for Dobby. Before Dobby could say anything, Luna said "Dobby, this is very important. If the rat in there manages to escape, do not let it escape the castle. If it escapes, Harry will be in danger."
"Dobby will make sure bad rat doesn't escape. Bad rat won't hurt Master Harry." Dobby squeaked before snapping his fingers and becoming invisible. Luna waited by the door, she had done all she could, the rest was up to Harry and Dobby.
When Harry and Ron entered the office, they found it rather cramped. Inside the office were Madam Bones, Madam Longbottom, Professor McGonagall, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, and another Auror who was introduced as Auror Shacklebolt.
"Thank you, boys, for coming so quickly. It was brought to my attention earlier today that there might be an unregistered Animagus hiding in the Gryffindor dorms." Professor McGonagall said, watching carefully for the suspect to make a run for it. "Ronald Weasley, please hand over Scabbers. There is a simple spell that will reveal the truth, and if Scabbers truly is just a rat he will be returned to you."
Ron and his parents all had looks of fear and disgust upon their faces. Could someone have really been hiding with them for years? With shaking hands, Ron reached into his pocket to grab a shaking Scabbers. As soon as Ron grabbed him, Scabbers tried to wiggle out of his grip. When Scabbers was pulled out of Ron's pocket his struggle got fiercer, clawing and biting at Ron's hand. Ron couldn't keep hold, dropping Scabbers to the floor.
The moment Scabbers hit the floor, he tried to bolt to the nearest piece of furniture. He didn't make it two paces before going stiff, stunned by an Elven spell. The next moment, Dobby dropped his invisibility illusion, standing right before Harry with his arms crossed. "Dobby won't let the fake rat get away. Missy Luna said it would hurt Master Harry if it did."
Everyone was stunned as they processed this latest shock. Then, Professor McGonagall remembered why they were there and cast the Animagus Reversal spell on the rat. The next moment, where a fat and balding rat was frozen in place, a fat balding man now stood in its place. Ron fell backwards, Mrs. Weasley fainted and Mr. Weasley was barely able to catch her. Professor McGonagall's face paled before she stuttered, "P... P... Peter Pettigrew?!"
The look on Harry's face hardened and the temperature in the room rose. "Dobby, release his head but keep the rest of him stuck." Harry ordered Dobby. Dobby reached his hands out towards the trembling Peter and altered the magic holding him. Before Harry could even say anything, Peter started greeting everyone he recognized as if they were old friends reunited after years apart before begging to be released. Then his face turned to Harry and he stopped talking.
There are two kinds of anger people can show; red and purple faced rage that's clear to see, and the more subtle blank expression and hard eyes that show fire raging within. When Peter looked into Harry's eyes, he saw an inferno barely contained. "So, you're Peter Pettigrew? I've heard a lot about you. Seems you're in a spot of trouble." Harry said. Harry talked calmly, but Peter could see the flames in Harry's eyes dancing like fiendfire.
Peter gulped and looked around the room, looking for some protection or a way to escape. He found none, and there a look about the elf by Harry that spoke of asking him to try and escape again. "Peter Pettigrew, you will be coming with us to the DMLE to answer several questions and stand trial for being an unregistered Animagus." Amelia Bones said, bringing Peter's attention back to the occupants in the room. A charge like that would see him fined and possibly a short stent in Azkaban, he looked at Harry again and decided it might be a safer idea.
"Please, have mercy. I was scared. One of my friends had just been murdered and another tried to murder me. I didn't know who else would try to hurt me, so I hid. Please, protect me from Sirius, he'll try to kill me again." Peter cried out, begging those in the room for safety. This got on Harry's restrained nerves.
"I know your lying Wormtail. I know the truth, and you're going to tell them. You're not sneaking away again, traitor." Harry said, his nerves sounding clear in his voice despite his calm expression. The adults all looked shocked and realized that Harry must be using Occlumency. The temperature of the room was also rising.
"H…H…How?! How can you know that name? How can you accuse me of betraying your parents?" Peter stuttered. He was pale before asking, then turned ashen when he realized what he had said. Peter looked around the room again quickly and saw that everyone was either confused, angry, or both.
"Magic truly is amazing, isn't it? There are spells that will let you do nearly anything with a wave of a wand and the right words. Creatures that have a pure connection with nature. And of course, magical paintings that hold the memories of those they represent. Prongs sends his regards." Harry responded, smiling. Harry tapped Dobby on the shoulder, breaking the elves concentration.
The smile on Harry's face, the heat radiating around him, and the look in his eyes was enough to make Peter's heart skip a beat. Peter grabbed at his chest and backed away from Harry, right into Auror Shacklebolt, who was waiting with magic suppressing manacles. The moment Peter felt them close and his magic fell silent, he tried to panic before looking back at Harry. He hadn't moved, but Peter would rather be anywhere than near him right now. He bowed his head and started whimpering.
Madam Bones gave Shacklebolt a sharp nod and Auror Shacklebolt nodded back and guided Peter over to the fireplace. He used the floo and called out "Ministry of Magic, Auror's Bull Pen". Before he dragged Peter with him, Madam Bones gives Shacklebolt another order. "Keep this silent till I get there, we don't want Fudge or Umbridge hearing about this before the trial." Shacklebolt nodded and left the office with Peter.
Once they are gone, Harry focuses his control until he calms again and the room is back to its normal temperature. There was a part of him that wanted to roast the bastard for what he had done. But he held himself back, keeping in mind the warning and promise Luna had given him. His death now would have bound Sirius's fate, that was clear now, and he would get what was coming to him. He glances around the room; everyone is tense and seems to have waited for Harry's focus to return to them before speaking. "Well, that would explain one of the reasons Ron's spells always have limited to no effect on Scabbers. His new wand should also help this year with school." Harry said, trying to lighten the mood.
Professor McGonagall nods before letting out a sigh. "Thank you, Mr. Potter for bringing this to my attention. 5 points for the control you showed, personally I don't know if I'd have been able to hold back once he was revealed and admitted his crime." She said, looking to Madam Bones as she finished talking.
Madam Bones coughed, catching the attention of the room, and addressed them all. "Mr. Potter, thank you for bringing this to light and allowing us to deal with Pettigrew; it would seem matters surrounding your parent's betrayal was not as clear as everyone was led to believe, I suppose I should have thought as much given it involved James Potter and Sirius Black. I will get to the bottom of this, Mr. Potter. Arthur, its clear you had no idea Pettigrew was hiding with your family, you shouldn't see any trouble from this but I will still need to get a statement later. Augusta, Minerva, thank you for an interesting afternoon. Well, I must be off. I've got a dead man to interrogate and a kiss on sight order to get removed. Minerva, may I use your fireplace?" With a nod from Professor McGonagall, she was gone.
Augusta Longbottom then stood to leave. "Well, this has been an eventful afternoon, but I really must be going. Mr. Potter, please pass on good wishes from me to Neville. Jules!" She said to Harry, but calling for her house elf. The next moment, she was off; Harry had a feeling she would stop by Potter Manor before heading back to Longbottom Hall.
Harry looked over to the Weasleys and inwardly sighed. "Dobby, please take Mrs. Weasley back to the Burrow and put her to bed. It might be better if she wakes up there rather than the Hospital wing. Then come back for Mr. Weasley." Harry said. Dobby bowed before snapping his fingers. Dobby and Mrs. Weasley were gone, soon followed by Mr. Weasley.
"Mr. Weasley, I advise you to go to the Hospital wing for a calming draught. Let Poppy know I sent you. You are not in any trouble or danger for this." Professor McGonagall said, Ron was looking rather clammy. 'This must have been a terrible shock for him.' She thought. Ron nodded and quickly left the room.
"Mr. Potter. Thank you for trusting me with this, I realize it wasn't easy for you. I hope that I can earn your trust fully one day. If you need me, feel free to come to me. Might it be possible to visit your parents' portraits?" Professor McGonagall asked. Harry thought about that before answering.
"I think that could be arranged, Professor McGonagall, though not immediately. I would rather not be noticed missing and I'd prefer nobody notice you disappear as well. Maybe during the Christmas Holiday?" Harry asked. This incident had earned her points back into his good graces, but he wasn't yet comfortable trusting her with where he lived or taking the chance that Dumbledore might notice and follow her.
She thought it over for a moment before nodding. She could see his point and understood some of what wasn't spoken. "Thank you, Mr. Potter. I can wait and appreciate the opportunity. Well, I suggest you get off to your friends. I'm sure some of them might be worried."
Harry nodded and turned to leave, Dobby following behind him. Luna was waiting for him when he left the office. She smiled at him and hugged him gently. "You did marvelously in there, Harry. That rat won't be trying to escape." Luna said.
After flinching from the hug, he settled into it after a moment. "That's good. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't hard. I wanted to make him pay." Harry said. He hadn't wanted to lose control on someone since Marge.
Luna gave a soft, sad smile, before saying, "He will get what he deserves and your godfather will be free because of it. And when the time comes…" She smirked before deciding this was better left untouched. "You'll see. I look forward to watching the fireworks." Her eyes shining with mirth. Harry loved seeing that look and trusted her. Luna then took his hands and lead him towards the library.

After studying in the library with his friends, followed by dinner, they decided to call it a night. While Neville had no problem getting to sleep and Madam Pomfre; after a chat with Professor McGonagall, had given Ron a dreamless sleep potion. Ron was filling the room with snores right after he lay down. Harry on the other hand was having a hard time getting to sleep. At 10pm, Harry finally managed to drift off, and was immediately met by Fawkes.
"Good evening, Hatchling. I heard you've had an interesting day. You did wonderfully today, though I must caution you about drawing upon family magic here at Hogwarts. For those who know what to feel for, its very noticeable. Fortunately, Albus was distracted with a floo call and you're not the only heir of an old family here." Fawkes said.
"I needed to know I could trust Professor McGonagall with some of my secrets. I wanted her help and she responded in kind. I guess she felt I might have been testing her and that was her last chance to earn my trust, if that's so she might have been right." Harry answered.
"She may be strict and extremely loyal to Dumbledore, but she cared deeply for your father and mother. If she felt the need to make that oath binding, she would do it. Being an Animagus, she's very in tune with her instincts and usually listens." Said Fawkes
Even though he was being scolded, Harry could see Fawkes wasn't angry with him. There was mirth in his eyes. He also heard the slight chuckle in the telepathy. Harry accepted it for what it was; be careful and don't do it again.
They moved on to their meditation work, but Harry just wasn't able to clear his mind. After half an hour, Fawkes had given it up and decided Harry needed something to distract him from Pettigrew's capture. He had wanted to wait a little longer, but it wouldn't hurt to give Harry the surprise now.
"Ok, Harry. Clearly, you're having a hard time focusing tonight. Perfectly understandable given the days activities. Wake up and meet me on the Seventh floor, by the Portrait of Dancing Trolls." Fawkes said, sighing. He then left the dream.
With intrigue, Harry got up, dressed and snuck out of Gryffindor Tower. With his Invisibility cloak, he didn't need to worry about the prefects, though Peeves nearly caught him. Harry tricked him into thinking he was the Bloody Baron and Peeves made tracks. Fortunately, no sign of Mrs. Norris. Even after reading the Invisible Book, he couldn't figure out how the cat appeared to see through the cloak.
After 15 minutes, Harry made it to the seventh floor and found the portrait, labeled Barnabus the Barmy. In the time it took for Harry to get confused by the portrait, Fawkes appeared behind him and chirped, making Harry jump three feet. Harry turned around and glared at the bird with mirth filled eyes, causing Fawkes to chuckle.
Once Harry relaxed and Fawkes stopped chuckling, Fawkes waved Harry over before crossing the hall. He stopped right in front of one of the rare empty spaces in the castle. Fawkes hopped from side to side. After he finished his third set, a large stone door formed out of the empty wall. "Open the door, Harry. It's a bit harder to open them without hands." Fawkes said.
Harry did as Fawkes asked and opened the door. When he did, he was stunned by what laid within. The space in-side was enormous, the far wall was nearly out of view and the ceiling was obscured. The walls were lined with books of all kinds and sizes, three meters out from the bookshelves was a line that seemed to follow the wall around the room, near the front side of the room, on his right, were high-back chairs like Harry and Fawkes sit in during their dream meetings, near the front of the room, on his left, were one of each type of cauldron and several chests. A bit past the sitting area were a row of exercise equipment that wouldn't look out of place at any good private gym. Past the cauldrons was a raised stand with a dueling dummy. Between the exercise equipment and the raised stand was a massive king sized four post bed with red sheets. At the far side of the room, Harry could make out another door, made of wood. In the middle of the room was a rug with the image he knows rather well, Fawkes, emblazoned in reds and golds.
After a minute of Harry standing at the entrance with his mouth open, Fawkes started laughing. The laughing caught Harry's attention and he blushed before scowling at Fawkes, which caused Fawkes to laugh more until Harry was grinning. "Welcome Harry, to the Room of Requirement. This hidden room, enchanted by Rowena Ravenclaw herself, can become nearly anything the one who opens it desires. It is most versatile when first forming, but can be modified by the will of those within it. Should the occupants require privacy, the door can vanish from the outside, denying access to anyone else trying to open it. Should the occupant require more time, they can manipulate the flow of time in the room; I would suggest, and have set, that one hour on the outside is twenty-four hours in here, should you really want to you could set it to longer or shorter, you just can't rewind time with the room. The room is also not able to provide food, so for prolonged training you need to think about that."
"This room is absolutely brilliant." Harry said, his voice filled with awe. Wondering behind the magic of the room, Harry delicately activated his true sight and immediately had to de-activate the gift. Harry's eyes were hurting from the sudden overpowering shine of the room. Then Harry felt a wet feather pass over each of his eyes and his vision returned.
"Really Harry, not here five minutes and already you nearly blind yourself. Every foot of this extended room is etched with active runes pulling power from the crossing lay lines beneath the castle. If you fully activate your true sight gift before you are ready and look up, you would destroy your eyes. You are making amazing progress Harry, but you still have a long way to go. When you can look at me with your true sight without pain, you will be able to see the floor and walls; when you can view them without pain, you will see the true beauty etched upon the ceiling of this room." Fawkes said, looking straight up with wide eyes.
"Well, since you can't sleep, let's get some training done. After all, we have a week until sunrise." Fawkes proclaimed, rising into the air. Harry grinned nodding with determination. 'This is going to be fun!'
Thank you all for returning for chapter 7, I hope it was worth the wait. Sorry it took so long and for its length, I was trying to keep it beneath 10k but the main points of this chapter just demanded so much attention.
Once again, I would like to give a big thanks to White Angel of Auralon for allowing me to use their plot devise of the Room of Requirement having time dilation abilities. Harry doesn't have as much need for vast amounts of time as White Angel's characters but its only year 3, he'll have more of a reason next year.
Now for the Chapter Trivia: What did the Room of Requirement open as for Albus Dumbledore?
