You and Dr. Trent are eating your dinner at Kai's snack bar, being the last customers, Kai walked up to the door to switch the sign when Popuri and Rick came in. "Bruh, I was just about to close!" Kai told Rick, "But don't you want to see me Kai?" Popuri batted her eyelashes at Kai, making him blush. You are sitting in the opposite direction of Dr. Trent with your back facing the front door. Dr. Trent noticed Rick and his sister coming in, and you noticed that he was looking at something else behind you. "Huh? What is it?", you're about to turn your head behind when the doctor suddenly grabbed your hands and said "No, no it was nothing, I just got distracted by the customers coming in". You blushed when he touched your hand, focusing more on him now while eating. Dr. Trent told you stories about his childhood and how he came from a medical family, while you also told him about your background. "I was actually thinking of going back to the city, once I earned enough here to revive my shop" Dr. Trent's expression suddenly sank at the news "Why? Are you not enjoying it here?" he asked. "I do but it's just that… I guess I don't fit in well here" you tried to make an excuse to avoid telling the truth about your heartache with Rick. It was indeed true but that was not your primary reason. "I can relate, I too do not fit in here, sometimes it's hard to get along especially with my patients, I feel like they're still stiff around me.." he added. Your conversation went on, with you giving him tips on how to make people warm up to him more, and him trying to convince you to stay.
Meanwhile on the other table, Rick was eavesdropping on your conversation. Hearing that you will leave as soon as you save up just made an urgency within him to stop you. He can't sit still right now knowing that you have plans, oh how he wanted to just turn around right now and talk to you. Dr. Trent asked for the bill, and while waiting he told you "If that's the case then I won't buy herbs from you anymore" he teased "But why!" you pouted "So that you won't be able to leave immediately" he chuckled as he paid the bill not noticing your reaction "You should at least try a couple months here, if it still won't work out for you 'til the next season then you can go" he placed both of his hands under his chin while grinning at you "Why are you holding me hostage!" you whined. "I'm not! I just simply want you to stay longer... Besides, I don't have any friends here aside from you. You're the only one I relate to since we both came from the city" he pinched your nose lightly as a tease. "Stop!" you wrinkled your nose and pouted again. Looking into his eyes, you can see how lonely he is indeed in this town "If you don't have any friends here then why do you even stay? You could just leave, like me", "Are you nuts? Where will the people here get their healthcare? I'm the only doctor in this town, if I leave they'll have to travel far to another town just to get checked." , "Oh yeah right.." you looked down, feeling sad for him "Well if you want, you can visit me in the city on your day offs or holidays' ', you reassured him by grabbing his hand. "I'll come visit even if it isn't my day off" he smiled back.
He stood up, offering you a hand which you gladly took. As you stood up, you noticed the table behind you was Rick and Popuri, eyes widening as you realize that they could have heard your conversation with the doctor all these time. All of that lingered in your mind as you walked out of the store, holding hands with the doctor. Rick seeing that just flamed his desire to talk to you, as he was about to stand up to stop you and grab your hand, "don't." Popuri stopped him, making him sit still. As he walked you home, your thoughts won't get off if Rick and Popuri heard you. When you arrived at the farm, the doctor noticed that you seemed to be distracted "Are you alright? Is something bothering you?" He stopped at the door of your house. "No, no, It was nothing really" you tried to dodge it but his expression showed that he doesn't buy it "Oh alright, I was just bothered because you paid for the dinner, I could have split the bill", you lied but somewhat true, still not the main reason why you're distracted though. He smiled "No it was my treat, at least before you leave" he joked before you both said your goodbyes.
You lied down in bed, thinking of what happened today. So what if Rick and Popuri heard about your conversation? It's not like you cared about Rick anymore, but Popuri, she's still one of your closest friends. You sighed, with this you also thought of Dr. Trent and how he wanted you to stay and how close you two have become already, then suddenly you remembered what Jennifer said back in the forest.."There is another one, and you'll love him more", her words echoed in your mind. Maybe it's Trent? Is it Trent? There's only one way to find out...sighing heavily, accepting defeat "I guess I'll have to stay for a while", you told yourself before drifting off to sleep.
Few weeks from now is the fireworks festival, and you're still not sure who you're gonna watch it with. As you go around town, you can see people asking one another already. You're too busy for that, you thought. You went to the inn to eat lunch when suddenly Karen stood up from the counter to approach you. Ran tried to stop her but she just shoved her off. You were focused on your food when suddenly a loud slam on your table startled you. "You! How dare you even steal Rick from me!", You looked up to her and with startled eyes "I even gave you those free seeds when you first came here because I thought you were nice!". You did not fight back since you are not really that kind of person who likes to get into fights. You tried to continue eating when she pushed your plate far away from you, falling into the ground with a loud crashing noise. "Pay attention to me you whore!". Ok now you're pissed. Not only you get interrupted while eating but how she calls you and embarrasses you in front of everyone in the inn. You stood up to answer back at her "I did not steal your boyfriend! He was the one who constantly goes to my farm! He didn't even tell me about you! You should talk to him like that instead of me! Oh and btw, the seeds you gave me were useless, it's grass! Maybe if you have half the brain he wouldn't have left you", "You-!" Karen raised her hand and was about to slap you when a hand grabbed her arm firmly. "Don't you dare lay your hands on her." Dr. Trent sternly told Karen. She glared at him as she yanked her arm away "And why shouldn't I? She stole Rick away from me! She's a homewrecker!", "She isn't. She's my girlfriend." Dr. Trent lied and defended by wrapping his arm around your shoulder. Karen was dumbfounded along with all the other people inside the inn. Ran's jaw dropped and with her accidentally dropping a glass of beer broke the silence. Karen nervously looked at the doctor, remembering that he is also his dad's physician and his only hope to keep him active. "Before you go accuse someone, you better talk to Rick...Come now Y/N, we should leave" Dr. Trent said before escorting you out with him, his arms still around your shoulder.
You looked at him as he held you close to him as you walked towards the clinic. He leads you upstairs where his mini house is. Closing the door behind you two, he asked you to sit on the black leather sofa with him. "Can you tell me what was going on? Is Rick also the reason why you wanted to leave this town?" He interrogated you with his deep black eyes. "I-I…" you sighed in defeat, he really had you figured out. "Yes, he is the main reason, but what I told you is also true… I didn't have any friends here and when Rick came, I thought we could be really close, then look at what happened now.." you covered your face with both of your hands in an attempt to hide your tears from Trent. He sighed as he slowly removed your hands from your face and pulled you closer for a hug. You cried on his chest as he stroked your hair gently. "Shh… forget about Rick already, he's no good for you.." you sniffled "I'm always here", he titled your head, making you look at his sincere beady eyes as he wiped away your tears with his thumb. You hugged him even more tightly as you buried your face on his chest. He chuckled as he hummed softly to relax you.
