Twoie's heart rate increased the moment he laid eyes on the bubbled, multi-colored gem. The last thing he wanted was a repeat of Bismuth's reaction in his time. The young man wished he could just explain things to Bismuth here. The island was calming, and it would be easy to sit and talk or escape for a moment if he needed to. However, his new powers didn't include the ability to talk without breathing. He could just hold his breath much longer than before. Twoie frowned as he stepped onto the island and grabbed the bubbled gem. He had to be careful about this. With his newfound appearance, he probably looked more like Rose than ever. He grimaced. Stars, Twoie probably looked more like Pink Diamond than Rose. This probably wasn't his greatest plan, but he needed Bismuth's help if he was going to stop the Cluster in this timeline. Without the gems' help, they'd never finish it in time, and Bismuth's ability to create materials combined with her knowledge of earth tools made her invaluable for this mission.
Carefully holding the bubble, Twoie jumped back into the pink grass and landed on the dirt outside the barn. He slowly released his breath as he stared worriedly at the bubble. His father was still waiting for him, and the man stared curiously at the gem. "Is this who you meant by a new friend? I guess I never thought of Rose placing a gem in there."
Twoie nodded, taking a deep breath to calm his rising nerves. "This is Bismuth. She was poofed and bubbled by Rose during the war when Bismuth created a device that would've essentially killed the Diamonds. When Rose couldn't convince Bismuth not to use the weapon, she poofed her. The gems don't know she was trapped inside Lion's mane." The young man winced at the horrified look on his father's face. Yeah, that sounded worse saying it out loud… Twoie rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "I want to let her out, but she's not going to like me with the way I currently look. I'm hoping you being here will give me enough time to explain without her attacking me. I'm also hoping she'll believe you when we inevitably talk about what happened to Rose and why I'm the way I am now."
Greg took a step towards his son and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Is this safe? If there's a chance Bismuth will attack you, then maybe you should wait for the others to return from the… Kindergarten?" At Twoie's nod of agreement, he continued. "It sounds like you could get really hurt, and you don't have all of your powers anymore. I don't even know what you are capable of doing right now."
Twoie subconsciously put a hand over his stomach, where his gem used to be. His dad was right. So far, the only powers he knew he had still were the ability to enter Lion's mane and his increased strength. "I'll be okay, Dad. I really don't think she'll do anything yet. And if she does," Twoie smiled at Lion, though it was strained. "I'll have Lion here to help me."
Greg sighed, but he knew his son could be pretty stubborn. No amount of pleading would stop Twoie from releasing Bismuth. "Okay. I trust you, Twoie. Go ahead and let her out." The older man stepped back several steps. He wished he could do more for his son, but Greg was just a human. He would be in the way if things escalated to a fight. As Greg watched Lion pad forward to stand at Twoie's side, he promised to buy some canned tuna and a Lion Licker for the big cat once this was all settled.
Twoie nodded at Lion gratefully before stepping forward several feet. His anxiety was rising, but the young man did his best to quell it. There was no turning back now. He set the bubble down, popped it, then quickly retreated back where he was initially standing. The bismuth floated into the air, glowing brightly. The light emitting from it formed into the silhouette of one of his closest friends. Bismuth landed on one knee in front of him, multi-colored hair obscuring her face from view. It took her a second to realize that she was no longer bubbled, then she quickly backed up while raising her arms in a fighting position. A spike of fear shot through Twoie's heart when Bismuth's eyes alighted on him. They quickly narrowed with anger, and Bismuth fixed her stance. "You! You bubbled me! How could you!"
"No, wait! Please!" Twoie raised his hands in surrender. "I'm not Rose! I'm a human who was revived by her powers!"
Bismuth blinked in surprise. She wasn't sure if she believed it… Bismuth jumped when a pink lion nudged his way in front of… Rose? Not Rose? "Lions aren't pink…" She looked back at the supposed human. Yes, his hair was curly, but now that she was looking at him, she could see the colors were different. Bismuth shivered. If anything, he looked more like Pink Diamond than Rose… Pink Diamond! "The war! What happened with the war?" She held her hand out towards the human. He knew Rose, so he had to know about the war!
Before he could answer her, a big gust of wind hit them, making Twoie shield his face with his arm. A shadow covered him, and Twoie quickly moved his arm to see Ven standing protectively in front of him, glaring. Twoie was shocked. He'd only seen Ven show emotions once, and that was when they had re-fused back on Homeworld. Ven was standing in front of him, glaring at Bismuth with one arm outstretched to protect his human half. The pink gem's other arm was in front of him, palm facing Bismuth. Twoie blinked as he realized that a pink fractal dome had surrounded the other gem.
Ven was pissed. He had no idea what his human half was thinking. Releasing Bismuth by himself? They both knew how volatile the gem was. She barely trusted Twoie when he was a child. The pink gem glared as he tightened his fist. He didn't care that Bismuth had returned his glare. She couldn't hurt his family trapped inside the pink dome. Bismuth pounded the pink fractal dome with her hammer arms, but each attack only bounced off it. "Rose! What more do you want from me?" She growled as she slammed both hammers against the dome's wall. "Fight me like a real gem!"
Steven looked back and forth between his brothers and Bismuth. Peridot was shaking as she hid behind Steven. This was the first time she had seen her- seen Ven angry. "What's going on? What's a bismuth doing here?"
The young kid stepped forward, only to be cut off by Lion jumping in front of him. "Lion? Wait! What's going on? What's happening?" The cat only turned so that he was standing sideways. Lion wasn't going to take his eyes off the new gem until he knew his family was safe.
Twoie placed a hand on Ven's outstretched arm, hoping to calm him down. "Ven, it's okay! I'm okay." Ven looked at him, silently checking Twoie over for any injuries. With a nod, Ven's expression lightened back to his original stoic look. Content that Ven had calmed down, Twoie walked over to Bismuth. She looked at her suspiciously. "I'm sorry, Bismuth. Everything has been a mess, and you've gotten caught up in this. I'm not Rose, and neither is Ven. We can explain it to you, but you have to promise to hear us out. It's gonna be a confusing and painful discussion, but I promise you that we have your best interests at heart."
Bismuth narrowed her eyes as she looked back at Ven. That expression… So emotionless. That had never been Rose. Her eyes moved towards the small group off to the side. The pink lion had moved to protect the kid and a gem she didn't know. A Peridot… Was she a Crystal Gem or something else? And there was the other human in the background too, an older man. One thing was certain, Bismuth had no idea what was going on. And she wasn't gonna learn anything about the war or her friends by being trapped inside this dome. She sighed as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Fine. Let me out, and I promise to listen to your story. I don't guarantee that I'll believe you, and I definitely don't trust you all right now, but I'll listen. I'll make my judgment from there." Ven glanced over at Twoie. At his encouraging nod, he lowered his hand. The dome blinked out of existence, and Bismuth plopped down on the grass. "Okay, then. Let's get this over with."
Lion snuffed as he turned and pushed Steven and Peridot towards the others. With a soft laugh, Steven sat down. Peridot and Lion sat beside the kid, while Greg walked over and sat near Bismuth. Twoie grabbed Ven's hand and pulled him down to sit between Peridot and their dad. Twoie hummed in thought. What was the first thing he should begin with? "Okay. There is a lot to talk about, but I think the best thing to start with is the war."
