Chapter 7: PROJECT

"God dammit!" He shouted full of rage. Pyke punched the nearest metal wall as a form of releasing his anger, creating a small dent. In his blind rage, he didn't even notice his hand was bleeding. But he didn't care. Not only his body, but his pride as well took a major hit at the last fight. Despite his short temper, Pyke was a very proud man overall. Even accepting the help of PROJECT made him feel like his pride was under attack, but he knew that he had to swallow it and become stronger. He had his own agenda afterall.

"Hey ugly, how did that right hook feel?" A light, squeaky, android-like voice sounded behind him. Pyke turned around with bloodthirst in his eyes, only to see the company's newest recruit standing a few meters away from him. The dark corridor was only lit by a few orange LED cables strapped on the wall. The petite psychopath, who had now pink hair, was leaning against the steel-made wall, with a wide, annoying grin on her face.

"Do you want to die again?" Asked Pyke back, reaching for his mildly beaten-up butcher knife.

"Do you?" Replied Jinx. Revealing her zapper on her left hand.

He then remembered. It's been so long since it happened. Like a tidal wave, the dark memories of his last days as a normal human came rushing into his mind. All the water, the ropes clinging to his body and neck, the laughter. All of it brought a feeling of rage which not even words could describe. His death gave him a new perspective of life, so he slowly put his dagger away. He relaxed his muscles and snapped out his thoughts.

"What do you want?" He asked Jinx.

"The old man wants to talk to you. He was doing something so he sent me to pick you up." She replied, putting away her zapper as well. She stopped leaning against the wall and started walking towards the direction she came from. She turned around make sure that Pyke was following.

"You comin, weirdo?" She asked.

"Aye." He replied, trying to snap himself out of his hurtful memories. They walked in nearly complete silence, the only thing ruining that is the constant clinking of the two villains' boots coming in contact with the metal floor. They passed a few rooms on their left and then took a turn to the right. After walking for a few minutes, the two androids reached a large metal door, which had a large red, neon sign on top of it which read Surgery in Progress.

"Another new recruit, aren't I enough?" Asked Jinx in a comically insulted manner. "I wonder who it could be? Hey, wanna take a look inside?" She asked Pyke, who was leaning against the door itself.

"Absolutely not, we have been specifically instructed not to enter the laboratory when the doctor is operating. Do you wanna be turned into scrap metal?"

"Watch your mouth, ugly. I can take on every single one of you by myself if I wished." Replied Jinx, showing obvious signs that she and her pride were offended by that last comment. She tried to push Pyke aside but before she could react, Pyke had already pulled his butcher knife to her throat as a warning. She responded quickly by pulling her taser out and aiming at his head.

"I didn't think of you as a guy who took orders from others who are weaker than him? Are you the doctor's little bitch now?" She asked with a wide, crazy smile on her face.

"Do not get the wrong idea, I follow no one's orders but mine, but I've been taught to the ultimate degree how to pay debt. And I owe a large one to the doctor for giving a second chance at life. For that reason, I have to follow his orders no matter the cost. So if he says no one goes in when there is a surgery in process, then that's what's gonna happen, got it pipsqueak?"

Before, she could respond, a loud beastly roar forced them both to release each other and turned to face whatever made that sound. Pyke took a fighting stance by holding out his knife, while Jinx switched from her taser to her minigun in blinding speed. As soon as they realised who it was they lowered their weapons.

"Oh, it's wolfy! Who's a good boy!" Shouted Jinx in excitement as the very thing that killed her and turned her into what she was now stood right in front of her. A gigantic 2,3 meters tall, cyborg wolf was standing at the corridor, looking very pissed off. He went by the name Warwick.

"Will you two stop fighting, or will I have to rip you both apart limb from limb?" He asked in his menacing, robotic voice. Before any other word could be spoken, the red sign behind the two androids shut off, followed by a short buzzer.

"Shit, here we go." Though Pyke, as he had a very good feeling that they were all about to be scolded, but not that it mattered. He just wanted to see who it was the doctor was operating on the entire time they were arguing.

When the door opened, a scrawny, old-looking man in a white lab coat exited the operation room. He took out his operating gloves, which instead of blood on them had some form of thick black liquid, and threw them off in the bin next hiding behind the wall next to the entrance door

"What is going on out here? Couldn't you see that I was performing a surgery?" Asked the doctor, clearly ticked off by the background noise and the loud roar.

"Sorry doc, we had a little disagreement." Replied Pyke.

"I don't care, when I'm operating you will all be quiet!" Shouted the enraged doctor. "I'm done anyway but don't let it happen again. He should wake up soon."

"Who was it you operating on anyway?" Asked Pyke, trying to satisfy his thirst to know. He didn't want to admit it to Jinx, who was staring at him with a wide grin on her, but he wanted to know who it was on the operating table as much as the next guy.

"A former mercenary from Ionia. He was killed by some ninjas who had a personal vendetta against him. I happened to be in the area when he was left for dead. His name is..."

Just he was about to reveal his name, a small ruckus was heard inside the operation room. The rattling of chains and grinding between metal.

"Well, that was fast." Said the doctor, surprised that the latest addition to his team of cyborgs woke up mere minutes after his operation. The entire team walked inside the lab, only to find a tall, metallic figure at the corner of the room, leaning against the wall as if dizzy.

"New recruit, are you feeling okay?" Asked the doctor, not expecting a kind answer.

"I...remember...shadows. Lots...of shadows." Replied the former mercenary, trying to gather his thoughts and clear the mess that was his mind. Due to his recent transition, his memories and thoughts were a bit chaotic. But just as he realized who he was and what happened, his personality made a complete 180 degree turn, seemingly turning back into who he was.

"Phew, I apologise, this isn't like me. I must have remnants of my old weaker, self still inside me. Give me a minute, will you?" He said. He then started to slowly turn around and walk towards his new crewmates with confidence as high as the sky. He rested his arm on his waist, which is when he realized that his signature weapon, a hand cannon named Whisper, was missing. Muscle memory sure is an interesting concept, he thought. PROJECT looked at him in bewilderment. He took what he believed to be his signature pose, looked at his teammates and gave what he considered the best monologue/introduction that he ever could.

"I have risen from the filth and muck. I am the lotus blossom, I am beauty. My name is Khada Jhin, and now, the stage is set."

SOOOOO, Jhin and Warwick have entered the stage ready to steal the spotlight! Haha, I guess we finally know who killed Jinx! Bad doggo! Anyhow, how you guys enjoyed this chapter! Stay tuned for more!!! :)
