It was Sunday, Paul was doing a list of errands that he prepared during the week. He went into a local bank to deposit some money. He wanted to starting investing in certain stocks. He bought a few himself with some money that he has saved up, going to save up with all those benefit checks which the government are sending because of the program he's currently on and the money his father sent him. He bought multiple stocks, including one called, Dogecoin.
Whatever the hell that is.
He was currently at the Middleton Mall, all by himself. He was shopping for some new clothes. He has been in America for almost a month now and he needed to buy some clothes. He wasn't very handy with doing laundry himself.
He did also spent an hour picking out a specific type of clothing for himself.
A suit.
He organised a few features to be altered and hopefully it would be ready in the upcoming weeks. The tailor asked him what is the purpose of the suit. Paul said for personal outings. But he was just preparing for future outings.
After a few hours of scouting the mall, Paul is ready to head home for the day. It was a very modernised place. As he mentioned before, it had one hell of an impressive architecture design, though with so many strange store names, he's never heard of before.
Paul heads outside the mall and begins walking home with a few bags in his hand. While walking home, he notices a technology store at the street level. He sees the displays of gaming laptops, graphics cards on the shelves and monitors.
Curious and intrigued by what he sees, he decides to go inside and have a look around. Maybe even make a purchase and add to his load of bags he has bought today.
"Good afternoon sir, would you like any help? Looking for something in particular?" The friendly employee asks.
"I'm all good thanks. Just having a browse." Paul says.
"Well, I'm here if you need anything."
"Thanks."
Paul begins looking and walking around the store. Very different compared back at home. Like the shop JB-HI-FI. He ends up finding a few handy things for his computer room. Something that even Smart Mart didn't stock in their megastore. That's a first!
A few cables, wireless pad and a cooling pad to keep his laptop cool due to the heat it develops after long term use.
He proceeds to walk towards the register carrying the three items. He puts his other shopping bags down and the cashier begins to scan the items.
"Eh- E-excuse me sir. Can I-I please purchase a 60 Watt USB C to USB C cable please?" A young adolescent voice says from the distance
Paul stares across to the other counter, which is alongside him. He sees a young African-American boy in a blue shirt and jeans. He sounded a bit nervous when asking the cashier his question, with his stuttering.
"Okay. I'll be right back" The cashier goes behind in the back room and after about a minute he returns back to his register holding a small box, he scans the item and starts pressing a few buttons. "Okay that'll be 24.95."
"I-I thought i-it was 9.95?"
"That's for a 20 Watt. This one is a 60 Watt."
"Oh man. I-I've only g-got 10 dollars."
"Oh well. You still interested in the 20 Watt cable?"
"No thanks." The boy was a bit upset that he couldn't get his cable.
Paul looks at the boy. He really wanted that cable. He looked upset. Paul had a wild guess that he look around 12 years old. He wanted to do a good deed with the extra money he's getting from the government.
Paul then grabbed his wallet and walked towards the other cash register and pulls out a 20 dollar note. He places it down on the counter and says, "Give the him, the change." Paul says grinning and winking at the younger boy and proceeds to walk back to his bags.
"Okay sir, that'll be 129.49 today." The cashier says, finished scanning all of the teen's items.
Paul grabs out his card and pays for his items.
"Hey." The kid quietly says. He is standing right to Paul.
"Thank you sir." The kid says smiling.
Paul grins at this "I'm a bit too young to be called a sir, but you're welcome man."
The kid grabs something from his pocket, "Here's your change back." The kid says hold out the 5 note.
"I said to keep it. It's yours to spend."
The little boys grins at this before pocketing the money away, "Thank you. I-I'm Wade, by the way." The kid extends his hand out.
Paul complies before shaking the younger boys hand, "Paul."
"Glad to meet you. I have a small allowance and usually don't buy stuff from outside my room."
"Well in the future, hopefully your allowance increases. One day you'll graduate and find a job that makes you happy and makes more money." Paul says giving a small lecture to the young kid.
"Oh I've already graduated high school." Wade says, Paul was surprised at this, "And college." The kid adds.
"Have we now?" Paul didn't have a definitive response to this apparent bombshell.
"Yeah. And I'm 9 Years old."
Paul's eye widened at this
"(Chuckles) 9 years old? I would have thought you're 13. Kids these days are evolving differently." The employee behind the counter says, before picking up a pen and playing tic-tac-toe with a robot arm with a pen. The arm wins with a horitzonel victory on the paper. The employee slams his pen down "Damn it!"
Both boys stare back at each other after witnessing what just happened over the counter.
"Well I think that's unbelievable. So what do you do now though?"
"Well... Have you ever heard of Kim Possible?"
Paul was about to open his mouth, but it hung open for a few seconds, "LLeeeeeeeeeets say... I know her personally."
"Wait. You know Kim Possible?"
"Yeah."
"I'm the guy that runs her website." Wade says proudly pointing his thumb to himself.
Paul was stunned before responding, "Woah! Wait, so you're the one that gives her these dangerous missions?" Paul says.
"Well she's willing to do them. But recently she's been-"
"Riding solo recently, because her partner aka her best friend Ron left her to move overseas. I know."
"Wow. You really do know her. And you got Ron's name right."
'Why wouldn't I get his name right? It's easy to remember. Ron... See? I recall one guy. Actually... my driver calling him Aaron when I arrived here in America."
"A lot of people tend to get his name wrong. Kim's the main spotlight when it comes to the field."
"I've actually offered to help Kim with her missions."
"Really." Wade scratches his chin thinking, "Have you got any fighting skills that can challenge against experienced fighters?"
"Boxing." Paul says
"Is that all?"
"... Distractions? I'm kind of good at stalling. I can do random things. I've learnt from a lot of television and films." Paul admits.
Wade thinks about this.
"Well to be honest... Ron wasn't even qualified to fight people like that! Tell you want. I'll give you my discord and contact details. That's if of course you have one."
"Of course I do. Here."
Wade and Paul exchanged contact details and discord accounts.
Wade notices a server that only certain people could access in specific countries. That country being Australia. Unless of course you own a VPN.
"Wait a second." Wade says while checking Paul's account.
"What is it?"
"You're from Australia?" Wade asks
"Yep, hence what I said before about my driver when I arrived here."
"Wow. That's awesome. You just moved here?"
"Yes. Recently, in fact, late last month. All by myself."
"Why though? What about your family?" Wade asks curiously.
Paul explains to Wade why he's in America. Paul didn't want to talk about it much. But the more he talks about it, the better he feels at times. Wade was a bit shocked to hear, that he's own government basically forced him out and stay in the US for two years. All by himself. With explaining the option for his family to come as well.
"I'm sorry to hear that. You must miss your family."
"I do. Everyday Wade. But that's how it is man. Time will fly by. Then one day, it will be time to leave."
"Got to make the most of things. Am I right?" Wade says trying his best to cheer him up.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Paul says chuckling.
Despite being young. Wade was quite mature. And a intelligent kid. He was trying his best to comfort the teen. Right now he wasn't bothered being homesick. In fact he was enjoying the ride in America.
"Wade Load. Where have you been?" A voice calls out a few meters away from the two boys. It appeared to be Wade's mother.
"Oh sorry Ma'am, I was speaking to your son. You've got a bright boy on your hands."
"Oh. Well... It's okay. After all, my son needs to interact more to the outside world." She whispers to the teen, "He has a hard time making new friends."
"Mummmmm!" Wade says nagging, to his mum. She embarrassed him.
"Oh stop Wade. You have more friends on that Mind-drafting game you play all day long."
"Minecraft mum." Wade corrects her mother.
"Whatever it is. Now grab what you came here for a lets head home. It's time to make dinner."
"Okay." An idea springs into the young boy's mind, "Mum?"
"Yes dear?" The women says.
"Is it okay, if I invite Paul over for dinner please? He helped me paid for my cable, It's the least I can do for what he has done."
"Of course sweetie. Would you like to come over for dinner?" Wade's mum asks the teen.
"I'd be more than happy to join you guys for dinner tonight." Paul answers with a grin.
"I'm glad to hear it."
6:45PM
At the Load Residence
Later on that same evening. Paul was at the dinner table sitting next to Wade, his mother, Roz and his father, Lontaine. All of them were eating a delicious meal prepared by Wade's mum. This is the first time Paul has eaten a home cooked meal in America, prepared by someone else.
"This is really delicious Mrs Load. I haven't had a home cooked meal since July." Paul says truthfully at the Lasagna she made. Mrs Load was a great cook. Her son looked like he never went hungry during one of her meals.
"Why thank you Paul. And it easier to call me Roz"
"Okay Roz."
"So Paul. What brings you to America?" Mr Wade says. He's a bald man with a white short sleeved business shirt on, cutting his piece of food.
"School and only school." Paul answers.
"Surely there's other things that bring you to America." Roz asks, expecting more than just... well school.
"Well the landmarks and theme parks. But mainly school." Paul says, again with school being the main focal point.
"Why school though?" Lontaine asks curiously.
"Because I was forced to move here under a program run by the Australian Government. And school is the only things that bring me to America." Paul explains nonchalantly. He's said it enough times to say it so easily.
Wade's parents stopped eating after hearing this.
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that." Lontaine says feeling sympathy for the teen.
"Doesn't matter. It's all good sir."
"And your family?" Roz asks.
"Back in Australia. All of them have too many obligations and commitments to move with me."
"I see." Roz responds.
The rest of the dinner went great, all of them were talking and telling them stories about Wade over dessert, her mother mentioned a few embarrassing moments, but Paul wasn't teasing Wade about it. Despite being a few years younger, they connected quite well for their love of technology and video games.
After a few hours, Paul decided to head home and prepare for school tomorrow. He said his goodbyes to the Load family.
"Thank you so much for the lovely dinner Roz." Paul says as he approaches the front entrance door.
"It was my pleasure Paul."
"It was good to meet you sir." Paul says extending his hand
"And to you too Paul." Lontaine shakes the teens hand.
"Wade. It was good meeting you today." Paul says shaking the younger boys hand.
"Same goes to you. You know, one day. If you have time. I mean with school and all happening. I was... I was wondering, i-if you want to come over one day. To hangout or even check out my cool room." Wade says twiddling his fingers abit nervously.
"Wade. I would love too. I've got to show you my Razer Laptop."
"Woah! There so expensive." Wade now says super excited. That boy sure loved his technology.
"I know they are." Paul smiles.
Paul waves back to the family and heads off home, before it reaches past 10PM.
'Everybody get choices'
"Paul?"
'I choose to get money, I'm stuck to this bread
"Paul?"
'Everybody got choices'
Paul feels a tap on his shoulder.
Paul sees a red-head girl next him trying to talk to him.
It was Kim!
He switches off his headphones and takes them off. He was approaching school anyway.
"Hey Paul. Can you hear me?" Kim calls out next to the teen.
"Oh hey Kim. Sorry about that. I usually listen to music when I walk to school. I'm all ears now. What's up?" Paul asks the shorter teen.
"Ah it's no big. I finally had some good successful missions over the weekend."
"That's great! Any of your main rivals yet?"
"Nothing yet. They've been fairly easy and local missions in all honesty." Kim admits.
"Well it boosts your morality up to face the tougher opponents. Oh by the way. Guess what?"
"What?" Kim asks as both teens enter the school.
"I meet your friend that runs your website. Wade"
"(Gasp). You meet Wade!" Kim says completely shocked to hear this.
"Yeah. He's a really nice guy. Even his family are very friendly. Now I know why you use him to run your website. The boy's a genius... Uhh Kim, everything alright. You look like you saw a second head pop out of me."
"Opp that's my bad Paul. Was going to ask you about your drawing." Josh pops his head over Paul's shoulder. Kim was still speechless that... Paul. The guy that's only been in America for less than a month, meet Wade before she had the chance too!
Crazy stuff!
After all, it's a small town. You never know who you'll bump into.
"Oh my drawing is inside by bag."
"Cool. What's with Kim? Did she finally watch that video where that monkey completed that full 720 flip over the weekend at Middleton Zoo."
"You say what now?" Paul says raising his eyebrow, upon hearing this.
"Who what when?" Josh responds back grinning.
Paul squints his eyes in suspicion.
"Well played Josh. I'll see you after." Paul says.
"(Laughs) Okay. See you later Paul. Kim." Josh says before heading to his locker.
"A monkey doing a flip. What will trend next." Paul says to himself before turning back to Kim, "Anyway why you so quiet?"
"You. Meet Wade?" Kim says finally breaking her silence
"Yes."
"Chubby African-American Kid."
"Affirmative."
"Wade Load. Super smart guy, who finished first in the national spelling bee in America and two countries over."
"Y... I didn't know about that until now. Impressive though, but yes. That Wade Load... Wait. How the hell do you win a spelling bee two countries over?"
"Simple. Eligibility and Qualification process." Kim simply says.
"Of course he did." Paul says.
"Yeah." Kim laughs at this.
"Why are you so interested? Don't you talk to him everybody?" Paul asks.
"Only over the phone. Never in person."
"Wait a second. You're telling me you've worked with Wade for almost 2 years, and you haven't even meet him in person?"
"I didn't even think he left his own room."
"Yeah, he's a bit overweight to be honest. But smart boy."
"I'll say. How on Earth did you even meet him?"
"Well I was shopping all day yesterday."
"And you didn't invite me?" Kim says faking to be hurt. Put her hand over her heart.
"Oh sorry that I needed your permission." Paul says playing along.
Both laugh.
"Anyway, I went past a technology shop on the way home, so I ended up getting a few things and he was buying a cable, and he was short a few dollars so I ended up paying for it."
"Wow, that's pretty nice of you to do." Kim says praising his generosity
"It's the least I could do with the extra money I'm getting from the government."
"But it's a good thing. Isn't it?" Kim says.
"At what cost Kim. Not seeing my family. Would rather take my family over money."
Money does a lot of dangerous things to people. But if they know what to do with it, they are very smart people in the end.
"A lot would." Kim says thinking about his scenario.
"I know they would." Paul agrees.
...
"Do you think I could meet Wade?" Kim ask curiously.
"Absolutely. Ask for permission first though."
"Will do. I'll message him after school."
"Cool Bananas." Paul says staring at his locker, before opening it.
Another week of high school passed by pretty quickly.
Still no response from Kim in regards to assistance for her future missions. She has been doing well in regards to some other missions. But Paul considered them not to be big threats at all. Kim said it was no big.
Also she's been more socialising to the Paul as well compared to other weeks.
Water was under the bridge from the week before, between Kim and Paul. She apologised to him after that incident. He assured it was nothing.
The weekend rolled by again quickly... But today was a special day.
Today was the day.
It was Friday the 28th August. The last afterschool soccer session for the month. And this could potentially be the last day that Jim and Tim play after school soccer.
It was on Paul's mind all day. Even during school today.
Paul hopefully thinks that both boys finally came to their senses. He did all he can to keep them interested in soccer. It was all up to them now. Paul didn't ask Jim or Tim about what they thought about the DVD he gave them last week. He thought that they haven't even watched it yet.
But he had an 1 hour plus to keep them on board with the others.
He couldn't force them at gunpoint to keep on playing. If they were interested in soccer and having a good time, then their decisions would have already been made up.
Both of them were currently passing the ball to each other, for their short drill practice. Paul had no clue what they were thinking.
Flashback to 2 Weeks Ago
At the Possible Residence
Jim and Tim were sitting down in their rooms. Both of them made up after their fallout 3 weeks ago. It only took them 8 minutes to make up and become on good terms again.
Boys were always good at making up and becoming good terms again. Especially brothers.
Jim was holding the DVD that Paul gave them. Both of them stared at it and were a bit hesitate to watch it.
"I don't know Jim. Did he say what it was?" Tim says.
"I think he said it would change our minds about soccer. We haven't got nothing to lose. Plus Dad, put our equipment away for the night."
"Alright. But it's going to be boring though."
"I know." Jim puts the DVD inside the player.
Both begin to take a seat and wait patiently for the video to start.
"Are you sure we don't have any spare rocket equipment in the closet?"
"Nope. I quindecuple checked"
The video was about to begin...
"Get ready for a boring 2 hours." Tim says.
35 Minutes Later
"A lot of European's super teams during the 1970s were from England, Netherlands and Germany. Ajax and Bayern Munich both won 3 European championships in a row, sadly Ajax would have to wait 2 decades to win again. Johan Cruyff, arguably their best player later becom- "
Both Jim and Tim were watching the video with... actually interest!
Both were lying down on the floor with their palms to on their chins, kicking their feet up and down from behind, watching with a grin.
They had to admit, it seemed pretty cool. The history. The tactics. Formations. The greatest players in history. Some of the amazing goals and saves! They actually...
Liked it.
They both liked history as well. They were on top of the class.
Why on Earth did they think it sucked when they played it the first time around.
Soccer seemed so much slower, but in reality it was a fast paced game.
They continued to watch the video, getting more interested every second it's playing.
'FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET'
"Okay everyone. Gather around. Since today is the last Friday of the month. I've decided to extend today's match time, by 15 minutes." Mr Milton announces to the young group of kids.
All the young kids cheered on.
"Paul here, will be the referee." Mr Milton gestures to Paul. The teen gave a friendly wave in response.
After sorting out the teams. Followed by the quick rock, paper, scissors match. The game was underway.
It was a tight first half. Both teams were levelled at 2-2.
Half time approached.
Paul blew his whistle and everyone took a 5 minute break.
The teen had to admit. A lot of the young kids improved drastically in the past month. After all, practice makes perfect. Especially two certain boys in the last two weeks. That video truly paid off according to what he has seen.
"Paul can I speak to you for a second?" Mr Milton calls Paul over to the touchline.
Paul didn't except Harvey to call him over. Must want to tell him about the great work he's done in the past month with the soccer program.
"What is it sir?" Paul asks curiously.
"I've got to ask you something." Harvey leans closer to the teen, "What did you say to Jim and Tim a few weeks ago?"
Paul was surprised that Harvey asked this question. He's probably noticed something from the twins, "Well... I told them that they could drop the after school soccer program, if they behaved and go along with playing football. W-Why do you ask sir? Did I do something wrong with the talk I had?"
Harvey looked around before he could speak, "They've been behaving much better recently at school. Pranks last week have dropped by 90%"
"90%? You have an actually stat counter and keeping records of pranks."
"Hey. It's junior/middle school. What do you except. Plus they covered a good 2/3 Thirds of that."
"... Better I guess. So you're telling me... What I said to them, which has made them behave better at school? All of a sudden?"
"Bingo." Harvey says.
"Scrabble." A young kid says out loud, giggling not too far away from the two.
"Uno" A young girl says. Giggling too.
"Geez. I wanted them to think about continue playing soccer. But now I've somehow made them behave. How about that huh?" Paul scratches his neck.
"Whatever you said to them. It worked wonders."
It was entirely true what Harvey said. He's noticed that both boys have been behaving well, during school and soccer, but at home... It was a different story.
"It sure did. Hey can you do me a favour sir."
"Of course. As long as it's legal"
Paul laughed assuring nothing like that no illegal activity will be involved, before he whispers something to the sports teacher ear and hands him a thin device. Paul took a while to whisper what he was saying to him.
Eventually both of them separated and started to prepare for the big second half.
Other kids were started to appear on the pitch.
Halftime break was nearly over. Everyone was set for the second half.
3-3
Was the current score of the match.
Scores were levelled with minutes remaining.
A lot of energised kids were tired already and couldn't create a single sprint.
It has been neck and neck all day.
Paul checks his watch, and there is less than a minute to play, with the red team having possession inside their defensive half.
"1 minute to go!" Paul calls out.
Paul was hoping someone scored a goal. He'd already seen two draws in a row. But it was about that time, after a month of soccer, the kids participating should be having fun, instead of whinging and whining about losing a game.
The red team were going inside their attacking half.
30 Seconds of play left in this match
One of the kids passes the ball to Tim. He takes a touch of the ball and flicks it towards the edge of the box.
He tries to create an opportunity. He realises that it was now or never and he crosses the ball into the box.
Jim sees the ball up in the air and runs towards it.
He jumps off the ground and side volleys the ball towards the goal.
The short goalkeeper tries to get a hand on the ball, but he fails miserable...
The ball ended up behind the net.
The red team celebrate the goal. And Jim, the boy who didn't want to play soccer 4 weeks ago, was the match winner. And his brother Tim, was the one who set up the play.
"FWEEET FWEEET FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETT!"
That's it!
It was all over!
Full time!
Red team wins 4-3 over Blue
Everyone on the Red team celebrated. They gathered around the two boys, congratulating them, even some of the Blue team players said great job to the twins
Paul watched this from a distance smiling. It was an unbelievable goal. Gosh it happened so fast.
Paul stares at Mr Milton, who gives a major thumbs up to the teen, holding a small device.
What a day for Jim and Tim to remember. Match winners!
'Soccer is boring'. Yeah right!
"So I don't get it. Why did Juventus go down in 2006?" Jim asks while walking alongside Paul.
"Because from 2004 through out 2006, certain Italian teams, discovered telephone calls linked to the referee organisations, so certain teams organised favourable referees for certain games throughout the season. A lot of people say it was a ploy by Inter Milan to make them successful for years to come. I reckon they got caught. Wrong time. wrong place. Plus people always tip off about certain news to cause a stir with the media. It's quite an interesting scandal though. Lot of people fined and sent to prison. You should search up Calciopoli Scandal."
"Will do." Jim says, "I got to admit. Today was a great soccer game." Jim adds on
"I still can't believe you scored that insane goal!" Tim says excitedly
"But you set up the play for that Tim." Jim says back to his brother.
"I wish someone record that moment." Jim says out loud
"I thought you said soccer was boring." Paul says grinning at the kid.
"I guess... I was wrong." Jim says feeling a bit awkward for calling it boring.
"I was wrong too." Tim adds.
Both boys were a bit shy walking home with the guy that they nearly shot a rocket at. They were also nervous as well. I mean... who wouldn't be?
They've been walking, having a bit of small talk and the boys have been taking turns of Paul's electric scooter for the past hour. They were walking slowly towards their neighbourhood. They take a left turn into a suburban street. Paul recognises the street. He's been here before. But he doesn't believe during the middle of the day.
"Well this is our street." Tim points out.
"Cool. I actually live just the next street over." Paul says.
"Really? You don't live too far away from us."
"Maybe if you boys continue to play soccer. I'd be happy to walk home with you guys if one of your parents is working late on Friday."
"Actually Paul. Tim and I have decided... That." There was a long pause "We would like to continue playing" Jim announces.
"But not for the long run." Tim quickly added.
"Well I'm glad that you two are on board." Paul says.
"Yeah. Well this is our stop." Tim says.
"Alright boys. Well, I'll see you next week." Paul says to the boys, as he takes back his electric scooter and as he begins to scoot away, he's interrupted.
"Hey Paul." Two voices call out at the same time.
Paul looks back, to the twins. Both looked hesitate to talk, but they open their mouths.
"Thank you." Both say in unison.
Paul smiles back to the boys. He finally got through to them, "You're welcome."
A door opens up, "Hey boys." A familiar voice Paul hears.
"Dad!" Both kids say running up to their dad hugging him.
"Woah! (Chuckles) How was school and soccer today?" Their dad says. Was that James?
"Good." Both say
"And soccer?"
"Great." Both say at the same time.
"I knew you would enjoy playing. You know I was thinking I help coach during my spare time...Oh! Wait a second... I remember you!" James points at the teen smiling.
"James? Jim and Tim are your sons?" Paul says adding the two together.
"Yes... I-I'm sorry. I was in a rush last time. What was your name?" James said a bit embarrassed for leaving the teen hanging.
"His name is Paul." Jim says.
"Paul? Well glad to meet you again. What are you doing here?"
"Well I assist and supervise the after school soccer with Mr. Milton and today I walked home with your sons."
"A noble deed you did there. Were they behaving well?" James says patting both of his son's hair
Jim and Tim started to sweat. Paul could easily tell their dad about what happened earlier this month. Surely he wouldn't?
"They were great company. I think you boys have a knack for soccer sir."
"Outstanding and please. Don't call me sir. Call me James."
"Right... James. Hey, how did that project go? You know. One of your papers went flying off and it was important information." Paul says remembering the day he pick up his paper. Also being his first day of school.
"Oh I can't thank you enough for saving that paper. Boy what a relief that was, the boys at the space centre would never have let me hear the end of it if I had lost it! Everything is going to plan with our project. All thanks to you."
"It was nothing James. I was going to ask, you know, working at the space centre and all. Do you go to the rocket launches down in Houston?"
"(Hardy Chuckle) Well... me and the guys go a few times in the last few years. We actually launch some here in Middleton from time to time." James explains.
"Wow. You've really put your town on the map."
"Precisely. I can give you a tour one day around the centre."
"Woah! For real? I would love to James." Paul says excited. Finally a chance to see a proper Space centre.
"Great! I can't what to show you around my office one day." James says.
Both James and Paul exchanged contact information.
"Well, it was finally great to know you a bit better and to see you again. You should come past for dinner one day." James shakes the teen's hand and he both release after a few seconds.
"Thanks James. I might take up on that offer one day. It was good seeing you again." Paul says as he hops on his electric scooter.
"Right back at you."
Paul rides off on his electric scooter, as the Possibles watch him go off into the distance.
"Dad. What's for dinner?" Tim asks curiously.
"Well... we can order pizza. Mum's going to be home late tonight." James suggests as the Possible family go back inside the house.
"Again?" Tim says.
"Dad. Can't you cook anything?" Jim adds.
"Well... I can cook lots of thing." James defends himself that he can cook.
"Like?" Jim says.
"There's... Sandwiches, Pasta... Toast.. er... Fish fingers... uhhh." The boys look ay each other with doubt, "Why don't you boys play outside with the rocket equipment and I'll order a Pizza." James says diverting the conversation of his boys question.
"Yeah!" Tim says
"Alright!" Jim says a few seconds after.
Both boys quickly run inside to gather their rockets and play in the backyard.
James releases a sigh of relief and a small laugh. He dodged that question. Not particular well. But he did okay. Rockets always make the twins forget everything else on their minds. He walks inside his house and closes the door.
Paul locks his door with his keys and walks towards the footpath. He was headed into town to get some dinner, after washing up after a long day of school and soccer.
He had to a chance to reflect this week. A another week had gone by fast. Paul explained to Kim that he meet her associate in Wade the weekend before. Kim was surprised that he meet him in person. She has never actually meet the boy before. Only over video call.
Paul found it weird she never meet him in person before. He tries to create a few scenarios how in the world she ended up finding him to run her website.
He was a great guy and all. He seemed to be stuttering with the employee at the store before, and a small bit with him. But around others he was confident. He must have been shy, that's all.
What made him unbelievably unique, that he was super smart! Like Einstein genius smart. He had already finished high school and college at 9 years old! Who does that!
His parents Lontaine and Dericia are so proud of him.
Although, it looks like he doesn't get much exercise he noticed. He was quite chubby for his age. Not like it's anything bad, just some future health concerns, that's all.
He reaches towards the city centre. There was a few people walking around as well. It was Friday around 6PM, back at home there would be a lot of people going out for dinner, clubbing, shopping or sports event on Friday Night.
Paul walks past the Starbucks were he first hanged out with Kim outside of school.
He takes a quick glance inside at the people inside the café
He pauses for a second after recognising two faces sitting on the same table.
Josh and Monique!
Paul stopped walking and had to see it properly.
Yep. Paul indeed saw Monique and Josh at Starbucks. Both were talking and laughing. They looked like were on a date. Both drinking a traditional Starbucks Frappuccino.
Paul smiled at this. He knew they liked each other. Monique being a new student and all. She had a crush on Josh. Probably the same as Josh. Paul hope Josh would treat her like a queen. He hoped both would stay with each other for the long run. But who knows.
Paul continued to walk and not stare too long, in case both teens thought they were stalking their quote unquote 'Date'.
He starts to look around for the nearby food establishments. Bueno Nacho doesn't seem too bad right now. But he wanted to try something new, something that Australia doesn't have on its shores.
Then he saw it.
He looks at the bright logo glaring from a short distance.
'Clubway' ' So fresh, farmers don't know that their chickens are missing'
Hmmmm... Weird slogan. But it finally opened up! Took about a few weeks.
Paul's stomach was grumbling. He didn't care for the name. He was hungry. He begins to head through the two glass doors, he enters inside and straight away, he takes in the interior of the sandwich shop. Similar to Subway, but it looks so... modern. So new. So... Shiny.
The owner just took out the S and added the CL for the sandwich shop. No copyright problems there.
He stares at the short line of people waiting to order. He thought it might be a promotion of some sort. It's a good way to make business. After all, you've got to spend money to make money. He begins to wait in line
The line gets slightly shorter after a few minutes.
Paul had a quick though and wondered when Kim would finally let him finally join a mission with her. After a few mishaps on the field and getting bellowed by her. They have become good and steady friends in recent times, they've had a few setbacks though. Despite her stubborn nature, she will crack eventually. Wade knew he would be a good candidate for the team. It was just a matter of time and opportunities to show what he's got.
The door opens up behind him. He turns around and sees a women almost the same height as him. She had red-hair, wore dark blue scrubs. She most likely came from the hospital opposite the sandwich shop. The women gives a grin to the teen and Paul grins back at the older women in a polite manner, then he continues to stare back at the front of the store. Minutes past by and before you know it. It was his turn to order.
"Welcome to Clubway. What will you have?" The cashier asks with a smile.
"Hi there. Can I please get... a Chicken Schnitzel sandwich with mayo, lettuce, tomato, olives and onion."
"Alright. Would you like to choose spicy crumbs for the chicken?"
"Oh yes please sir." Paul says excitedly rubbing his hands.
"Alright. You're total will be 7.95."
Paul pays for his sandwich, thanks the cashier and waits for his order to be ready.
The women who was behind didn't know what to order. She was looking at the salad bar and what type of bread to have.
"Hmm, I don't know what to get... Excuse me sir."
The lady was calling Paul. She wanted to ask him something. Paul didn't realise until he faced the lady's direction.
"Sorry to bother you, but I overheard what you ordered before. It sounded very interesting."
"Thanks" Paul says.
"What was it? Chicken, lettuce, mayo, onions and tomatoes."
"And Olives."
"Great. I'll order exactly, what the previous customer ordered please."
"Alright. You're total will be 7.95."
The lady pulled out a 20 dollar note out of her pocket.
"Oh... So sorry Ma'am. We don't accept cash yet. We are only accepting card for the first few weeks until our registers are online. I'm terrible sorry for any inconvenience."
"Well, I don't have my card with me right now." The women says. She's a bit disappointed. She'll have to go somewhere else now. Being on her break, will make it less time to find a quick bite before going back to work.
Paul saw this. He was about to do another good deed. He pulls out his card.
"Sir, I'd like to pay for her order." Paul says to the cashier.
The women was surprised at this. She couldn't believe that the young man offered to pay for her meal.
"Thank you sir. That was very generous of you. But I must reimburse you." The red head women says pulling out a 10 dollar note.
"No need ma'am. You work hard at the hospital. Saving lives and treating others. It's the least I could do." Paul says refusing to accept her money.
The redhead lady smiled at the teen, "Thank you. You've truly made my evening." She says as she puts the notes back into her scrubs outfit.
"Don't mention it." Paul says grinnin. He then continues to wait for his order to be ready and about a few minutes later, the guy gives his food. Paul takes the bag and sits at a booth inside the restaurant.
He takes out his sandwich and start eating it. It was a really nice sandwich. The restaurant's nice interior, matched the food's quality. Hard to find these days.
He takes another bite and a women appears next to the booth he's sitting at. It was the red head women he had paid for her meal just before.
"Sorry to interrupt your meal. But is it okay if I can sit here? I've only got a short break, so I won't bother you for long."
Paul stopped eating at stared at the women. He knew that there was plenty of seats around. But all she wanted was to thank the boy and keeping him company was the least she could do, he didn't mind talking. That was pretty nice of her to do that.
"Sure." Paul says, The read head says thanks and takes a sit opposite the teen and begins to open her wrapper and eat her sandwich.
She eats it and straight away she enjoys the first bite.
"Can I at least know your name to thank you properly?"
The teen looks back up, he places his sandwich down, "Paul" he says extending his hand.
"Ann" The older women shakes his hand back.
"Nice to meet you. Now, I don't suppose you work at the hospital opposite this establishment?"
"The scrubs are pretty obvious, I know, But yes I do." The women points out her clothing and answers in a polite manner.
"Late shift tonight? Or finished for the night?"
"Late shift. My family are used to my late shifts. My husband, also tends to work late nights too" Ann explains
"Busy is good, but it cuts into family time."
"I know it does. But people need to be operated around the clock."
"Oh.. so you're a surgeon? What kind of surgery do you perform?" Paul asks curious.
"I'm a neurosurgeon."
Paul was amazed that he was really sitting opposite someone who operates on the human brain! But was confused as well, "... Wow. Uh. Sorry but can I just say. Are you the only brain surgeon in whole town?"
"No. I've got 4 other colleagues who specialise in neuro and brain surgery too. Why do you ask?" Ann says.
"Isn't weird that a population of.. I don't know.. roughly. 20,000 -25,000 people require 5 renowned brain surgeons in this town alone?
"You know, I haven't thought about that at all... That's a very interesting question young man."
"Thanks. I'm just curious. That's all. It doesn't make sense that you have multiple surgeons within a hospital. Unless of course, it's a major hospital within the state of Colorado." Paul asks.
"It's just the local hospital here in Middleton. But we have a big budget because of the town."
"Right."
This town sure is comparable to a major city. Big budgets for everything. But population is small.
"So what do you do for work." Ann asks.
"I'm actually a student."
"Oh. I see. What college do you go to?"
"(Chuckles) Sorry ma'am, I should have been more specific. I got to high school. I'm a student at Middleton High School. Year 9, which correlates to Freshman year."
The red head women had a shocked look on her face. She could have sworn he would have been older. He was very generous to pay for her meal and sounded very mature. Like in his 20s. Not many Freshman would be willing to pay for someone else's meal at all.
"Wow. I would honestly never think that." Ann says flabbergasted at the teens age.
"It's alright. I take it as a compliment."
Ann suddenly had an idea popped into her head. The teen opposite her was a kind person and a gentleman. Maybe...
Just Maybe...
"You know. My daughter goes to that school too. She's in the same year level as you. Maybe I could set up a date with you and her one day, as a token of your generosity. I mean seeing how you too getting along first of all and see how it goes."
Paul admired the women's boldness, but he was saving himself for another particular red head.
"Sorry to be rude Ann. But I have to politely decline. I'm actually saving myself for someone else. Besides. I'm moving back to Australia in 2 years time, so relationships in America are quite difficult from my end."
"Well, I'm sure whoever this girl is. She's a very lucky lady. Also you're not from America?"
"Nope."
"I could have sworn you had a tad accent" Ann says.
"Yes. But I have a Greek background."
"Oh interesting. So what did you move to America?"
"Let's just saw that I was forced to." Paul says.
"By who?"
"The government."
"What do you mean?" Ann asks.
"Well. I went to a private school back at home and the government announced a new foreign exchange student program for a few selected countries around the world. There was a raffle for a selection of 100 students and I was chosen. I had to leave everything I had in Australia, my family and friends to move here. It's unfair, but what can you do. Life goes on." Paul explains taking another bite out of his sandwich.
The older women felt sorry for the young teenager. Moving out here all alone, with no family whatsoever.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's okay. My family had a choice to move here as well, but they have work and friends as well. Plus my father's business would be harder to complete from overseas. Better one to suffer than 5 others."
"That's tough to go through. But I hope everything works out for you."
"Thanks Ann. I appreciate it. Is Ann short for Anne by the way?"
"No, my name is Ann. It isn't short for any other name."
"Ah cool." Paul says
"But at least one night when you're free you should come over to our house for dinner. It's to show my appreciation for the meal you paid for tonight."
"Ann it was nothing. Really. But a home cooked meal sounds nice."
"Well, I make a really good meatloaf. But my family thinks it looks like a brain."
"Wouldn't blame you. After all, you're a brain surgeon." Paul says chucking.
"I know." Ann says, finally someone agreeing with her about her cooking method.
"People need to appreciate home cooked meals, one day they'll know it when they get older. They'll miss it. They need to cherish it."
"Well said." Ann says, her watch beeps, "Oh, my break is up. Well it was really nice to meet you Paul. Here's my number. Call me once you have some free time to come over one day. My kids are well... they're unique. You'll get along with my daughter quite well. Thanks again for the sandwich. From now on, I'm coming here on my breaks from now on. It was great. Bye." The lady wraps the rest of her sandwich for takeaway and heads quickly to the entrance waving to the boy.
"See ya Ann. Nice lady." Paul says the last sentence to himself.
Paul had a funny thought. The lady looked like an older version of Kim.
She has different colours eyes though.
What a funny town. But some amazing people lived in it.
"Hey. Here's a free drink on the house. I saw you pay for that lady's meal before." The cashier from hands a cup of Sprite to the teen
"Wow. Thank you sir."
"Don't mention it. And here's a coupon too. Enjoy" The cashier says grinning as he heads back to the register.
Paul takes a sip of his drink, pockets his coupon and finishes the rest of his sandwich off. This place is actually great. It's a nice hangout. Bueno Nacho was good as well. He'd only been there twice though. The had a new regular customer at Clubway.
He's had a good week in terms of meeting new folks around Middleton.
Each day he's slowly forgetting about missing home. It's in the back of his mind though. Spinning around like a planet like the solar system.
Ann was in the hospital's lift. The elevator dinged her floor. The doors open up.
She exits the lift and walks to the front desk. She looks to be trying to find something.
"Dr Possible." A male voice calls out.
"Dr Gooberman." Ann responds back to her colleague.
"I think you might be look for this." He pulls out a swipe card, ID attached to a lanyard.
"My swipe. I forget to carry this with me when I went on my break." Ann accepts it and places it around her neck.
The ID read; 'DR ANN POSSIBLE'
"Happens to the best of us. How was your break?"
"Something extraordinary happened. You know the new food outlet Clubway? It's opposite the hospital." Ann explains.
"Yes, I've been past there a few times." The doctor admits.
"Well, I went in their for the first time. And they only accepted card. Which I forget at home."
"Right."
"And a young teen paid for my meal" Ann says
"Really? That's really nice of him."
"Yeah. And he said don't worry about reimbursing him" Ann says.
"That's great. I don't even think my son Kevin would do that either."
"I know. I thanked him and offered to come over for dinner one night." Ann explains her generous offer to cook dinner for him one night.
"That's nice of you. Aren't you worried that he will try and... you know. Date your daughter or something?"
"Not at all. He said, he had an eye on another girl. Besides, I'd let him date Kim. He was a total gentleman." Ann says. She was slightly disappointed that the boy wasn't interested in going out with her. He was really a nice guy.
Guys like that are hard to come by.
"Wow. That's a bold statement. Usually your protective over Kim."
"I know, but after Ron left, she needs more close friends or maybe even a boyfriend."
"How is she these days." Both doctors begin walking to the ward.
"Better. She seems more happier now a days." Ann explains
"That's good process. Letting go is always the hardest thing to do."
"It is." Ann adds.
"Attention doctors. A rapid response team is required in room 107."
"Oh that's us." Dr Gooberman says as both doctors rush over to the medical room to perform an ongoing procedure.
Author Notes:
- It's unbelievable how Paul hasn't clicked the picture with the Ron he meet in London is Kim's Ron. And he has already met Kim's whole family, without him knowing it's her family! And Wade! When will he find out the truth? The whole truth. The boy would be absolutely shocking if he was an investigator for a crime squad.
- Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency stock, which was created as a joke and is a "Doge" Meme which became popular back in 2013. (Remember this down the track)
- The Calciopoli Scandal was a match fixing scandal in Italy's top professional football league, Seires A, and to a less extent Serie B. It was uncovered in May 2006 and still one of the biggest scandals in Football History. What makes this even more significant. Italy ended up winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup a few months later after this whole ordeal occurred.
- Clubway will be the second OC Store in the series.
- In the main show. Mr Load is never shown, but has the name 'Lontaine' was mentioned in the show. His description in my story is like a similar and skinner version of Mr Lancer from Danny Phantom. Minus his beard.
- While Mrs Load. Was shown in the series, but we never learn her name. So I decided to call her Roz. Roz Ryan was her voice actress in the show. Roz Load
- And the surname 'Load' was never mentioned in the show. But according to the pre-show pre-production Series-Pitch 'Bible' Written by Shooley and McCorkle (The creators of Kim Possible), Wade's last name was 'Load'. So I stuck that surname for the series.
- Quindecuple = 15
- VPN is a Virtual Private Network. It can establish and create a protected network connection using public Wi-Fis. Takes longer to use, but it protects your personal infomration and history. This is great to access overseas websites that you'd normal need to reside in to access the material. No this isn't a sponsor!
- Somehow the 'Dollar sign' doesn't work on fanfictions. Oh well...
- The song Paul was listening when Kim was trying to talk to him was called; Choices (Yup) - E40
- Just a fair warning, most of the songs in the series will be explicit. So search up and listen if you're prepared to hear profanity words. Most songs these days will have Clean versions. I'll try my best to get pop songs in the series. I only know Rap songs!
