Yin and Evelyn beamed down on the outskirts of the Corvan Mining Colony in a flash golden light, it was dark out most likely in the late night and early morning hours. Sounds of disruptor fire and distant explosions filled the air and pitch black smoke covered the once bright starlit night sky.
"Status report, Evelyn!" Yin ordered.
Evelyn pulled out her tricorder and ran a quick scan of the area, and felt her heart drop.
"Oh, this is bad, this is very bad...according to my readings almost half the colony has been overrun by the Klingons!" Evelyn said.
"At this rate, the whole colony will fall within less than an hour." She said.
"Understood, we better move quickly if we're going to have any hope of saving those colonists." Yin said to her.
"Right, lead the way Yin...I've got your back!" Evelyn said.
Yin and Evelyn ran towards the colony phasers drawn. As they approached the front gate they could see three colonist arguing.
"Close the gate! We have to get out of here!" the first colonist yelled.
"And leave the others to die to the Klingons!? Hell no, We're leaving nobody behind!" the second colonist yelled back.
the third colonist turned when she noticed Yin and Evelyn approaching.
"G-Guys look! Starfleet's here!" She yelled.
The other two colonists stopped arguing and let out sighs of relief.
"Thank goodness." the second colonist said.
"Is everyone okay?" Yin asked.
"We're fine thanks, we were afraid that no one got our distress signal...thank God that's not true, we ." the second colonist replied.
"The Klingons, they just appear out of nowhere and started to...we didn't have any weapons...we were about to surrender when..." the third colonist tried to explain but she was too shaken up to even described that went down when the Klingons arrived.
"Did anyone else manage to escape?" Evelyn asked.
"We don't know, we're the only ones who made it here. All we know is that Chief Smythe and everyone else are still trapped in there with the Klingons." the first colonist replied.
"Do you know where they are?" Yin asked.
"We're not sure all we know is that everyone has been captured, killed, or hiding in their homes terrified and the Chief is probably still trapped at his officer." the First colonist said.
"Is there anyway you can evacuate the colony?" Evelyn asked.
"No, the Klingons destroyed the evacuation shuttles, and they disabled our transporters." the second colonist replied.
Evelyn looked at Yin with an uncertain face, the plan was already going south. Just then the third colonist spoke up.
"Look, I know its asking a lot but our friends are trapped in there. Please...save them!" she said.
"Don't worry, we'll do whatever we can to help your friends." Yin said knowing that she was probably making a promise she couldn't keep.
"Remain here, and whatever you do stay out of sight!" Evelyn ordered them.
The three nodded, Yin and Evelyn then ran through the open colony gate. It didn't take the two that long until they got company. after turning three corners they ran into two Klingons.
"STARFLEET!? When did you roLDars get here!?" A Klingon snarled as he and his partner drew their disruptors and opened fired at both Yin and Evelyn.
Yin and Evelyn took cover behind a pile of metal crates, returned fire at the Klingons. The Klingons didn't have time to react, the beams from Yin and Evelyn's phasers struck them in the chest incinerating them both. Yin and Evelyn then continued their way through the burning colony, towards the Chief's office.
At one point after turning a corner Yin and Evelyn ran into a Klingon man who was holding a human male in a choke hold.
"Your Starfleet can't help you now, human!" A Klingon snarled as his grip on the human's throat.
The human wheezed as he struggled to breathe.
"No...please help!" He cried.
"Squeal all you want human, No one can hear you..." The Klingon was cut off when he screamed in agony as Evelyn fired her rifle at the Klingon, shooting him in the back, causing the Klingon to drop the human male. Evelyn fired her rifle twice with both shots hitting the Klingon in the back twice, he then fell to the ground on his back dead.
Yin and Evelyn ran to the human male to aid him.
"Are you okay?" Yin asked the civilian.
The Civilian nodded at her.
"Yeah, I'm fine thanks." The civilian replied.
"Lets move!" Yin shouted to Evelyn and the two continued towards the Chief's office.
As they started making their way to the office, Evelyn's communicator went off.
"Evelyn?" Yin asked as Evelyn pulled her communicator out.
"It's a message from the ship." Evelyn replied.
Evelyn felt her heart sank as she read the message.
"Captain, it's just us here...no sign of Sebrova, Ticonderoga, or Starfleet reinforcements." She said.
Yin also felt her heart sank when Evelyn said that. The realization soon came to her...Corvan II was lost, with no way to transport civilians off the planet, and the escape shuttles destroyed...this whole plan was in vain.
Yin shook her head. No, Yin and the entire crew of the Nathan James chose to stay to help. If Corvan II was going to fall to the Klingons, then Yin was going to make sure that the Klingons didn't take it without a fight.
Yin then turned Evelyn.
"Then, we must continue! If the Klingons are going to take this colony, I won't let them take it without a fight!" Yin said.
Evelyn nodded.
"Right, lead the way Yin!" She said.
The way to the Chief's office was intense, almost every corner Yin and Evelyn turned there was always a squad of Klingon waiting for them but after thirty long minutes of phasers and disruptors exchanging fire, Yin and Evelyn finally reached the chief's office where they were greeted by Chief Smythe and a human woman with a sidecut hairstyle and was wearing a default Tactical Starfleet uniform.
"Chief Smythe!" Yin called to him.
The woman spun around and aimed her rifle directly at Yin and Evelyn.
"STAY BACK! I'M WARNING YOU!" She snarled at Yin and Evelyn in a thick New Zealand accent.
Chief Smythe placed a hand on the woman's shoulder to calm her down.
"Easy Caroline, they're from Starfleet!" Smythe said before he approached Yin and Evelyn.
"You must be the one who contacted us yeah? Your from the U.S.S. Nathan James right?" Smythe said.
"Yes." Yin replied.
"Well thank goodness you're here, and I apologize that my niece Caroline stuck a phaser in your face. But if she hadn't been here, I would have probably have eaten a disruptor blast by now." Smythe said.
"I hate to be critical but where's everyone else. Where's the rest of your fleet?" Smythe asked.
Yin sighed.
"We're the only ones here chief, the Nathan James is in orbit." She replied.
When Yin said that the expression on Smythe's face made him look like he saw a ghost.
"Oh no, that's...that's not good, the Klingons mean business they shut down our shield array and locked us out of the mine with a security field and are probably robbing us blind down there. there...they probably have killed the entire security teams by now. And if you're the only ones here then...I'm afraid the colony is lost." Smythe said.
"We came here to help chief, we'll do what we can to help you and your people." Yin said.
The Chief thought for a moment.
"Well perhaps maybe you can find a way to reactivate our shield array and shut down the security field that currently has us locked out of the mines, we could be able to find a way to bring the fight back to the Klingons." Symthe said.
Yin also thought for a moment.
"Hold that thought." Yin said as she pulled out her communicator.
"Tilly, are you there?" Yin asked.
"Yes, Captian?" came Tilly's voice through the communicator.
Yin explained the situation to Tilly.
"Okay I think I have an idea on how you can reactivate the colony's shield array and shut down that security field on the mine, hear me out okay." Tilly said.
"Okay, but make it quick." Yin said.
"Alright, to get a shield array going you'll need to hook up the field emitter to the power core and modify it to broadcast a shield array over the entire facility!" Tilly explained.
"It's a short term solution but it'll prevent the Klingons from transporting more troops down there!" She added.
"That...just might work." Yin said.
"You can call me a genius later Yin, now in order take care of that security field. First things first, I'm reading a device at the base of the mine entrance. If you can set up a jumper between it and the main command console you should be able to reroute the field's power flow, that'll open up the mine for you." Tilly said.
"Right, we'll re-route the power. Thanks Tilly." Yin said before she put her communicator away.
With Evelyn, Smythe, and Caroline's help Yin was able to connect the forcefield to the grid. Yin pulled her communicator out again to contact Tilly.
"Tilly, we hooked up the forcefield to the grid. What now?" Yin said.
"Alright, we're in business...well almost, I'm gonna need someone to be my hands down there." Tilly said.
Just then Yin, Evelyn, Caroline, and Smythe heard shouting coming from a close distance, it was the Klingons.
"Sounds like we're about to have some unpleasant company." Smythe said.
"We'll deal with the Klingons, do you think you can reroute the power chief?" Yin asked.
"I think so, lend me your communicator Captain. If your engineer can walk me through it, I'll get the job done, just keep those Klingons off my back." Smythe replied.
"We will, work fast Chief." Yin said as she handed her communicator to Smythe.
Then without warning.
"INCOMING!" Evelyn yelled followed by the sound of a photon grenade going off.
Yin, Evelyn, and Caroline took cover as a squad of Klingons opened fire at them. The three Starfleet officers returned fire, killing four Klingons. But every Klingon Yin, Evelyn, and Caroline killed did nothing. Every time a Klingon was killed, two more would take his place. But despite this Yin, Evelyn, and Caroline stood their ground and continued their defiant stand against the impeding Klingons.
"Okay, I need you to pull the actuator, invert it and jam it back in trust me." Tilly said to Smythe through the communicator.
"What is exactly is the...oh wait nevermind I think I go it." Smythe said.
"Okay, now what?" Symthe asked
"Just enter the final code!" Tilly replied.
"Uncle Ellery, anytime now!" Caroline said as more Klingons began to transport down.
Smythe growled in frustration as he turned to his niece.
"I'm working as fast as I can Caroline, I'm a miner not a damn engineer!" Smythe said.
Smythe entered the final code and pressed enter, error. He entered the code again error. Smythe growled in frustration as he entered the code again followed by another error popping up on the screen.
"COME ON WORK YOU PEICE OF...!" Smythe snarled as he slammed his fist on the keyboard.
Just then the computer responded and accepted the code.
"There we go, it's working!" Smythe said followed by the colony's shield array activating.
"Good job, Chief the field looks stable!" Tilly said.
Once the field was completely up Yin, Evelyn, Caroline, and the Klingons stopped firing their weapons and looked up at the sky. One Klingon roared in defeat before looking back at the three Starfleet officers.
"You may think you've won Starfleet, but our fleet is still in orbit. You're only delaying your inevitable defeat!" He snarled at them before firing his disruptor at the trio.
After five long minutes of phasers and disruptors exchanging fire the lifeless body of the last Klingon soldier fell to the ground. Evelyn dropped her rifle and inhaled and exhaled heavily, exhausted from the long and tiring fight.
"That's the last of them...I think..." She said between breaths.
Just then Yin's communicator went off.
"U.S.S. Nathan James, to Captain Yin! Come in Captain Yin!" came Ian's voice through the communicator
Smythe handed Yin's communicator back to her and Yin answered Ian's hail
"What's your status Ian?" Yin asked him.
"Not good! we were just attacked by Klingon scout vessels, we managed to destroy some of them but one of them escaped! For all we know they could be warning their commander about us! We could really need you back on the bridge Yin, finish what you can down there and beam back up." Ian replied.
"Acknowledged, stand by to beam us up." Yin said.
Yin then turned to Smythe and Caroline.
"Thanks for the help, Chief." She said.
"Least I can do. Thank you for risking your lives to save our colony...my people and I will never forget it. After all you didn't have to come and help us, least of all by yourselves, but you did...and we're really happy you did." Smythe said.
"The honor is all ours, Chief." Evelyn said.
"Come on Evelyn, we have some unfinished business to attend to." Yin said.
Evelyn nodded. Yin then turned to Caroline.
"Thanks for help, Ensign..."
"Fletcher, Caroline Fletcher." Caroline said introducing herself to Yin and Evelyn.
"Oh and sorry about the whole 'phaser in the face' thing earlier, but I wasn't going to sit around and let the Klingon take my uncle's colony without a fight!" She added.
Yin and Evelyn both chuckled.
"Don't worry about it Fletcher, we're all a little on edge here whenever it comes to Klingons." Yin said.
"Klingons should worry about me, not the other way around Captain." Caroline said.
Yin thought for a moment.
"You know there's room on the Nathan James's bridge for one more officer." Yin said.
Caroline looked at Yin surprised.
"So what do you say Fletcher, want to give the Klingons some more payback?" Evelyn asked.
Caroline turned her uncle, Smythe smiled and nodded, Caroline smiled back before turning back to Yin.
"I would be honored." Caroline said.
Yin nodded at her before she pulled out her communicator.
"Yin to Nathan James, three to beam up!"
A/N: Hello everyone Drew here, I hope you enjoyed this episode, be sure to leave me your thoughts in the reviews section, it really helps a lot.
Sorry this Episode took a while to upload, you see graduation is a few weeks away and I've been rushing to get all of my school stuff done before graduation, and I never really got back to this episode but finally I was able to come back and finish this episode.
I also took some time to do a few changes to some of the episodes. One change you may have obliviously noticed was that I changed the name of Yin's ship from U.S.S. Carpathia to U.S.S. Nathan James, the reason why I changed it was because I figured that U.S.S. Carpathia didn't sound right and it didn't seem like a fitting name for a starship. And I personally think that the name "Nathan James" would be a perfect name for a Malachowski class starship, and I've always liked the name and wanted to use it. But of course the main inspiration for name was the destroyer USS Nathan James (DDG-151) from the TV Show "The Last Ship".
I also changed Nathan James's hull registration from NCC-1648 to NCC-1625 because now I just realized that NCC-1648 is the same registration that was assigned to the U.S.S. Europa, the Nimitz class ship that appeared in of Star Trek: Discovery so I changed the Nathan James's registration to NCC-1625 to avoid confusion with the Europa's hull registration. Hey take it to the STO game programmers who make registration numbers random lol.
But don't get too attached to the Nathan James guys because Yin will be getting a new ship in the season finale which should be out very soon.
In case you folks don't know, I made another Star Trek Online story called "Star Trek: Yesterday's Agents", which is focused on my TOS Starfleet character, and right now I'm currently working on the script another Star Trek Online story focused around my Romulan Republic character, right now I'm not sure when I'll get that story uploaded, but it'll probably be uploaded ether next month after I graduate or when I conclude the first season of this story. As for my other story "Golden Strays" the second episode for that story will be up soon, so stay tuned for that.
But anyways thank you all so much for reading and I'll see you all in Episode 8.
Drew out!
