Thankyou for the suggestions and reviews! :)

I'll try to have less POV changes in the chapters.

Also I like the idea of Naru staying with her and her not experiencing nightmares but I'm a bit more of a slow build kinda chick so I might save that idea for the later chapters. :)

I do not own ghost hunt nor it's characters.

Thank you for reading! 3

Mai's POV

For once I woke up well rested after a couple hours of dreamless sleep. I was alone in my room and I kicked the blankets off my legs.

It was seven in the morning and I figured five hours of sleep was enough for me. I had run off of less on other cases. Also if Madoka was already up and out of the room she was probably functioning on even fewer hours than I.

Thinking of the high energy lady she opened the door quietly trying to sneak into the room. "Good morning Madoka." I said cheerily.

She startled a bit and looked at me surprised. "Oh Mai you're awake, we had decided to let you sleep in as much as you needed." She said giving up on her quiet movements and heading over to the nightstand to grab her notebook she must have left there after last nights events. "I guess you didn't take the chance to sleep in it's too bad." Madoka observed.

I got up and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and run a brush through my soft waves. "Mai you were right about something else happening last night." Madoka said following me in and brushing her hair too.

I could vaguely remember saying that last night. "Wait what did I say?" I asked setting my brush down and splashing warm water onto my face before applying my morning cleanser.

"About something happening before sunrise." Madoka paused and put down her brush. "I think that the spare Yasu had slept in was Heathers room." I stopped massaging the soapy cleanser into my skin.

"Is he alright?" I asked worriedly. I prayed that he didn't have to see what I saw in my dream or worse.

"Hey don't panic he's alright." Madoka said calmly. "We would have came and got you first if something serious happened to him." She reassured me.

I turned the sink to cold water and washed the soap off my face. "He can let you know what happened when you get changed and come out he's just doing a deeper search into the details of the family's murders." She finished then left me to the rest of my business.

I thew on a soft grey sweatshirt and just some simple athletic leggings. I had donned my nice school apparel for this case instead switching back to my usual comfy clothes.

I liked that I didn't have to dress like Masako. I still don't know how she can tolerate wearing her fancy clothes and put on makeup all the time. Don't get me wrong I think that it looks great and I enjoy wearing makeup on special occasions I just can't seem to find the effort to put it on every single day. Or more so the effort to take it all off.

After I pulled on some socks and put my hair back in a messy bun I trudged through the hall on a mission to find Yasu. The search didn't take long cause I discovered him chewing on some pancakes while simultaneously typing at lightning speed on his laptop.

Madoka was also back to leafing through the documented case files at the table and slightly acknowledged my presence with a flicker of her eyes. Yasu on the other hand I had to sit down beside and clear my throat for him to notice me.

"Good morning Mai." Yasu cheerily greeted me his mouth still full of syrupy goodness. "Madoka said something happened to you last night but she didn't tell me yet." I said giving him a 'tell me now' kind of look.

"Ah I think I slept in her room, Heathers that is." Yasu started. "It got super cold and there was banging in the walls all around almost like the whole room was shaking. I'm surprised you didn't wake up actually it was pretty loud." Yasu explained glancing at me.

"Jeez, anything else?" I asked curiously. "Yeah when Lin came to my rescue he turned on the lights just for them to shatter. Yasu said turning grim.

"I felt her hatred. The animosity shook me to my very core." Yasu visibly shuddered. "Yeah I think I can relate to you. I felt it in my dream. It's no wonder she lingers and is unable to pass on." I said thoughtfully.

Yasu and my attention shifted as Naru entered the room. As per usual he carried himself with grace and had a bland look on his face. "Hey big boss figure anything out yet?" Yasu asked while licking the last of his syrup off his fork.

"You know maybe if the two of you put your brains to good use once in a while you could come up with your own theories." Naru hissed narrowing his eyes. "Ah so no breakthroughs even after staying up all night." Yasu almost jeered at him.

"Naru that's no way to speak when there are woman present." Madoka scolded taking a break from her work. I got up and left the room not interested in being around a grumpy Naru.

Instead I decided to take the miserables narcissists advice. No matter how poorly delivered it was he was right. I couldn't just sit around and chitchat with the group. It was time I proved how much I had grown.

My stomach growled at me but I suppressed my hunger. I could eat after I achieved something constructive for this case.

I had a few learned tricks, or rather techniques, up my sleeves and I went over them in my head trying to decide which one would benefit us the most. Something in my conscience told me that I needed more information.

A puzzle piece of this families story was missing. That was something we already were aware of. We had yet to find a true motive for Jeff murdering his girls. Especially Heather who was carrying his child. He wanted a boy and there was no way he could have known the gender of the child in those days.

Soon I found myself walking towards the basement trusting my honed instincts to lead me in the right direction. It was colder and dingy down the stairs and the floors chilled my socked feet.

I walked through the dark halls channeling every feeling every remnant of the spirits stories. I ran my hands along the wood walls feeling energy bubble up inside of me. "I want to know what happened here." I spoke softly.

"I have to know so you won't be trapped here forever." I spoke this a bit louder trying to grasp Heathers presence. I felt peaceful as I released the hold on my controlled aura allowing it to flow freely the golden coloured energy acting as some kind of a beacon.

Then like a moth to a flame her presence appeared almost as if out of thin air Seething hatred flowed into me the raw emotion making me stagger. I knew this feeling. It was the same from in my dream. "Heather is revenge what has condemned you here, trapped with the person you despise most in the world?" I asked blatantly as the air became even more frigid.

"Mai!" A warm hand located my wrist and pulled me back. I sharply turned to my captor. "Naru can't you see I'm doing what you told me to?" I growled. "I never told you to recklessly go off on your own. You didn't mention you could summon spirits at will without a seance." He retorted his pale face contrasting those eyes that were filled with annoyance and curiosity.

"Besides I thought you would have pieced together that Jeff wasn't the murderer especially with him telling it to you so blatantly." Naru continued still holding onto my wrist.

"You have just carelessly drawn the true cold blooded killer directly to you!"The energy that was buzzing through the hall quivered. I cast my eyes down at the floor. "Honestly after my dream I had known Heather was a loose cannon. I just didn't want to believe it for her sake." I admitted.

"I didn't want to believe that this case was a murder suicide and the true devil in the situation was innocent of that crime." The energy thrummed against the walls and her voice rang in my ears.

"The bastard deserved to be humiliated and then hung. They all had to pay for his misconducts. I wanted him to suffer." She spat. All of the doors in the hall were thrown open and the icy atmosphere bit at my skin. "Hurry come this way." Naru kept his firm grip on my arm and practically dragged me away from the ghostly phenomenon.

"Wait! We have to cleanse her then deal with Jeff!" I yelled as the knocking sounds became thunderous.

"What do you have a death wish! Don't be an idiot!" Naru argued back his jet curly hair blowing at the force of the tremors in the house.

I dug my heels in defiantly and clenched my teeth. "Just piss off already Naru! I don't need you to protect me anymore I'm not some little ignorant girl anymore!" I bellowed ripping out of his tight grip just as Yasu and Madoka practically tumbled down the stairs.

"Hey you two get back up here now it's dangerous!" Madoka asserted her strawberry coloured locks whipping around in the erratic wind.

"You heard her Mai just do as you're told for once before this whole place falls apart." Naru growled. I watched as his own energy became visible to me. Yasu and I exchanged a look amongst the chaos.

I knew what I had to do. There was no way I was going to let Naru handle this and land himself in the hospital.

I took a deep breath and felt a calm flow over me. "Fujin I command you to come to my aid." I softly called my skin glowing gold as I summoned my shiki. The wind whipped around stronger and a translucent blue coloured leopard appeared before me. His eyes glowed amber as he looked at me his ghostly fur rippling in waves as his own paranormal storm raged around him.

"Fujin I ask that you lend me your power and blow away this foul presence." I commanded firmly power dripping from my demand.

"Very well." His deep godly voice making goosebumps prick on my arms. A warm blast countered Heathers poltergeist and she backed down her presence quickly fading.

"Running away are we?" I murmured to myself, watching my powerful shiki bound to the end of the hall his muscular feline form surrounded by swirling clouds of grey and silver strands of electricity. As soon as he had conjured he dissipated leaving behind a warm breeze.

"I couldn't exercise her I could only repel her from us for the moment." I broke the silence that had settled in the hall. I turned around to see the awed faces of my former comrades and a smug look upon Yasu's face.

"How is that possible?" Lin asked breathlessly. I assumed he must have joined our group while I was summoning Fujin. I almost laughed.

It was comedic to hear such a composed man so flabbergasted. "Well it's a bit of a long story." I scratched my back and smiled bashfully.

"Let's just say he's not completely under my power no human could tame a god but he owes me I guess." I laughed awkwardly.

"Where did you learn how to summon shiki?" Lin questioned. "There's no way you learned that on your own." I sighed and was grateful when Yasu came to my rescue and rested his hand on my shoulder. "I think it's time Mai had some breakfast right you didn't eat yet." He said rubbing my back.

Naru disappeared first up the stairs without a word to me. "Mai you never fail to astound us." Madoka laughed in an attempt to ease the tension. "All of this already and it's not even 10 am yet!" She exclaimed. I giggled with her a bit avoiding the prying look of Lin's one exposed grey eye.

I leaned into Yasu's grip as we made our way back to the kitchen. We were one step closer to clearing this house but I pondered if it was worth revealing one of my hidden powers.
