Chapter 7

-Second year, pt 2-

The Christmas holidays were as wonderful as ever. Although Cassie was feeling a bit annoyed with her young cousin Harry. "Cedric fancies you Cassie! I know it. He sent you that bracelet, don't try and tell me someone else did, you don't have any other friends!"

Cassie took a deep breath. "Harry. Please stop. Cedric is my friend and he sent me the bracelet because he thought I would like it. And I do! So please stop or I will tell your mother." This kept him quiet for the rest of the holiday.

Cassie wasn't sure what Cedrics feeling were, whatever she might tell Harry. They cared about each other, but that didn't mean he fancied her. She decided that they were only twelve and that these things should wait for when they're older.

Meanwhile, Harry had told his two favorite uncles all about Cedric and Cassie, and his Uncle Padfoot was not above teasing. Lily put a stop to it pretty quickly but not before Cassie's cheeks went red.

When she went back to school she decided to ask Cedric about his feelings. She got him alone the second day back and told him she wanted to talk. "Cedric? Do you...do you fancy me?" Cedric was stunned at this question and turned pink as she looked at him.

"Well, I don't know, what does that mean, exactly?" he said quietly. "It means that you would want to date me. When we're older of course." He blushed. "I just want to know, Cedric. I'm not going to fall into your arms the moment you say you like me in that way."

He looked at her, unsure if he should be angry or not. He had never been angry at her before. "I...I suppose I do."

She looked at him a serious expression in her face. "Well, I think I might fancy you."

He smiled and she smiled back. Somewhere deep inside her heart, Cassie knew that this wouldn't always just be a crush, but would blossom into something more.

Cassie stood with Cedric and the twins, staring at her feet. Another prank gone wrong. And this time it might land them in more then just detention.

"I didn't think you were capable of this. Especially you two!" McGonagall said angrily, waving her hand at Cedric and Cassie. "I just want to know how you managed to turn the entire Potions classroom into a mud pit!"

The twins couldn't keep the smirk of satisfaction off their faces, and McGonagall glared at them. "It was just some simple charm work to turn a small part of the room into mud, and then the Engorging charm." Cassie said as innocently as she could.

Professor Sprout, who had been keeping quiet while McGonagall lectured the four children, spoke up. "That's not such a simple charm, Miss Potter. It is actually quite difficult, even for fully qualified wizards."

McGonagall turned to Cassie. "Where did you even find this charm?" Cassie turned red and refused to meet the professors eyes. "Well?" McGonagall said expectantly.

"I found it in a a book." Cassie said finally. "What book?" Sprout asked, a slight smile in her eyes. "It was a book at my uncles hou-" Before Cassie could finish, McGonagall interrupted.

"Of course! James Potter! Of course he has a book on how turn a room into mud! Do you how many tricks he and his three friends pulled when they were in school?"

Cassie tried not to smile. James, Sirius, and Remus had told her all about those pranks.

Professor Sprout saw her slight smile and frowned. "I am very disappointed in all of you. Especially you two." She looked pointedly at the two Hufflepuffs. "I never took you for troublemakers."

"Who do you think has been helping the Mr.'s Weasleys? These two." Professor McGonagall surveyed the four twelve year olds with disdain.

"However it may be, I would like to get my students to bed. Come along you two." Professor Sprout beckoned Cassie and Cedric towards her and led them in the direction of the dorms.

"I must say, I never thought you two were helping the Weasley twins with all of their pranks. Well, I suppose I must punish you. Detention for two weeks, and although I don't want to do this, fifty points from Hufflepuff. Each."

Cassie and Cedric exchanged sorry glances. One-hundred points was a lot. And the house cup was coming up. Hopefully we can come back with the Qudditch game this weekend, Cassie thought.

Cassie and Cedric were in the common room, happily drinking butter beer after the Hufflepuff quidditch victory. Cedric had gotten the snitch and the perfect moment so that they won by two-hundred points. Someone threw her a cauldron cake from the kitchens with a whoop. "Three cheers for Potter and Diggory!"

Exams were coming up, and Cassie did not have time for pranks. She was looking over her History of Magic notes when the twins came and asked her to help them with something. She had said no because she was trying to study, and they had gotten a bit upset and left. Cassie didn't want to upset her friends but with the two weeks detention she had a mountain of homework and was trying to catch up.

Exams went fairly well, and afterwards she and Cedric went looking for Fred and George but they wouldn't talk to them. As a result Cassie was upset, and this made Cedric upset. So all four of them were upset and Cassie felt it was her fault. This was the first time she had just wanted to go home.

They left the following week and Cassie gave Cedric a kiss on the cheek, (this had become fairly normal) and promised to write.

She got some teasing from her uncle and cousin, but for some reason or another, she didn't mind as much anymore.
