Chapter Seven: Alice

The walk back to the Impala felt like hours for Bella and Dean. They shivered loudly as they made their way towards the car. Jacob had an arm wrapped around Bella, trying to keep her warm and helping her walk while Dean held his coat closed. Once they had reached the car, the four climbed in and Dean started it. The engine roared to life and Dean cranked the heat all the way up.
"We should stop by my place and give Bella a bigger coat." Jacob suggested. Dean turned to face him.
"Y'know, Bella isn't the only one that was in the water." Dean retorted.
"Well, she is the only one I like." Jacob growled.
"Stop." Bella spoke as her teeth chattered together. Dean rolled his eyes and put the car in drive.
"Taking orders from a damn 16 year old." Dean grumbled as the tires squealed against the road. "You know you don't even know us." Dean spoke up, growing aggravated by Jacob's attitude.
"You're right, I don't. But, I don't have to like you seeing as you let Bella jump off a cliff!" Jacob exclaimed.
"Stop." Bella's voice was quiet. Dean didn't bother to listen.
"We let her?" Dean laughed. "Sammy, did we let Bella jump off a cliff?"
"I really don't want to get in on this." Sam responded, trying to keep his eyes on the road and out of the conversation.
"It's not our fault she decided to go jump off a damn cliff." Dean hissed.
"Guys!" Bella exclaimed. "It was no one's fault. It was mine. I'm the one who jumped." She slithered further down in the seat of the car and held her coat tighter to her body. "Can we shut up about it now?" Dean rolled his eyes as he watched Jacob wrap his arm around her and pull her closer to his body.
When they arrived at Jacob's house, Jacob allowed them to stay for a while to allow both Dean and Bella to warm up and get some food in their system. Dean had snacked on chips and leftover dinner in Jacob's fridge while Bella wrapped herself in a blanket and made herself comfortable on the couch.
"Nice place, Jacob." Sam said as he looked around the house.
"It's homey." Jacob responded.
"So, what about these murders?" Dean questioned with his mouth full.
"Dean." Sam said with clenched teeth.
"They're pretty gruesome, huh?" Jacob questioned.
"Yeah, they are. We weren't sure if we wanted to make the trip." Dean stated after he swallowed the food in his mouth.
"You shouldn't have." Jacob warned. Sam and Dean exchanged glances and looked at Jacob with raised eyebrows.
"Oh?" They asked in unison.
"What's going on here-" Jacob couldn't finish before Bella had tossed the blanket off her body and made her way to Jacob.
"We should get going before my Dad goes home and finds out I'm not there." She said, interrupting him. Jacob gave her a look and smiled.
"You're right." He gave the boys one last look before leading Bella out of the house. The boys exchanged looks again and began following.
"That was weird." Sam whispered.
"He knows something." Dean whispered back. The four climbed into the car again and began heading back toward Forks. The ride was long and silent. Dean rolled his eyes at the sight of Jacob's arm around Bella's in the rearview mirror. He scoffed disgusted and Sam chuckled to himself. The Impala pulled up on the curb outside of the house and Dean put the car in park, leaving it running for the sake of the heat.
"Alright, you're home." Dean said, turning to face her.
"Do you need us to stay with you until your dad gets back?" Sam asked, turning in his seat as well to face her.
"I think I'll be okay." Bella responded. Her hand reached for the door handle before Jacob pulled her away.
"Hey!" Dean shouted defensively. He reached for his gun that was hidden in between his seats as he pulled Bella towards him, but she didn't fight. She had let it happen.
"What is it?" Bella asked, watching Jacob's movement.
"One of them is here." Jacob whispered.
"Excuse me?" Dean questioned.
"What is them?" Sam asked, trying to get clarification. Jacob ignored Sam's question as Bella looked out the back window of the car to see Carlisle Cullen's car on the opposite side of the road.
"That's Carlisle's car." Bella said, ripping away from Jacob and climbing out of the car. Jacob groaned loudly and swung the car opened and slammed it shut. Sam and Dean gave each other small nods as they reached for their pistols and hid them in their coats. They exited the car and ran after Jacob as he closed in behind Bella. He reached for her elbow and grabbed it harshly and pulled her backwards.
"Ow!" Bella gasped as he pulled her towards him.
"Watch yourself!" Sam shouted, placing a hand on Jacob's shoulder.
"If you go in there, I can't protect you." Jacob said to Bella, ignoring Sam's threat and pushing his hand off his body.
"He won't hurt me." Bella responded.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?" Dean asked, growing impatient. Bella pulled her arm out of Jacob's grip and ran up the stairs into her home. Jacob stormed away from the Winchesters towards the Impala in anger. Sam followed after him while Dean watched the house.
"What did you mean one of them?" Sam asked. Jacob looked at the younger Winchester brother with tears in his eyes.
"A vampire." Jacob replied. "They've been in this town for hundreds of years and we just got rid of some."
Sam's eyes widened and he turned and race to his brother.
"Vampires, Dean." Sam said almost breathless. Dean raised an eyebrow and cocked his head at his little brother.
"This isn't a typical vampire case, Sammy." He retorted.
"Dean, can we just?" Sam asked, gesturing towards the house. The two brothers raced up the stairs and into the Swan residence. Dean quietly opened the front door and the two snuck into the house, their pistols in hand. They turned the corner into the kitchen to see Bella making a cup of tea. Bella turned to see the boys and gasped loudly.
"What the hell are you doing?" She asked. The boys noticed another figure in the room with her. A small, petite girl about the same age as Bella with incredibly pale skin and golden eyes. Dean and Sam quickly hid their guns in their coats and gave the girl a small smile.
"Hey." Dean said nonchalantly with a smile. "I, uh, haven't seen you around before." He said, inching towards the girl. He leaned against the wall and gave her a small smile.
"Alice, these are-" Bella couldn't finish as Alice turned and glared at Bella.
"Hunters, Bella?" She questioned.
"What?" Sam, Dean, and Bella all questioned in unison. They exchanged confused looks with one another and turned to face Alice again.
"Hunters are not good company, Bella! They try to kill us!" Alice explained.
"What do you mean by hunters?" Bella asked again dumbfounded by Alice's accusations.
"How do you know about hunters?" Sam asked. Alice's eyes set on Sam while Dean remained quiet. He studied Alice's movement and her body language. He knew what she was.
"You're not like any other vampire we've ganked." Dean finally spoke up. Bella looked at her family in astonisment.
"Wait, what?" Bella began to grow irritated with the little information she was obtaining.
"There are other strands of vampire." Alice explained.
"There are different strands?" Sam quizzed.
"Can someone please tell me what's going on?" Bella finally shouted, gaining the attention of her best friend and her cousins. Dean drew in a deep breath and began rubbing at his temples. Sam nodded and gestured towards the living room.
"We should probably sit down and explain ourselves."
The four made their way to the living room and all sat down, Alice and Bella on the couch and Sam and Dean on separate chairs. Sam cleared his throat as Bella took a drink of her tea.
"Well, Dean and I are hunters." Sam began. "We live on the road and we go all over the country fighting monsters."
"What kind of monsters?" Bella asked, almost in disbelief.
"Ghosts, ghouls, vampires, werewolves, wendigos, you name it." Sam responded.
"Most recently demons and angels." Dean added in annoyance.
"Yeah, Dean knows a lot about that, don't you?" Dean rolled his eyes at his brother's statement.
"What do you mean?" Alice questioned.
"Dean was recently in Hell." Sam responded nonchalantly as Bella had taken another drink of her tea. The words echoed in Bella's ears and she violently spit out her tea back into the cup and began coughing loudly. Alice gently patted Bella on the back. When she had stopped, she looked at Dean.
"You were in Hell?"
"Yeah, sold my soul to bring Sam back to life."
"Back to life?!"
"Oh yeah, and Sammy likes to drink demon blood."
"Not anymore, Dean!"
"Wow, you hunters really are messed up." Alice commented quietly.
"We know." Sam and Dean's voices blended with one another as they spoke. Bella rubbed at her eyes violently as Alice scooted closer to her.
"Which brings me to why I am here." Alice said, changing the subject. Bella looked up at her. "I saw a vision of you. You jumped off a cliff. Why in the hell would you try to kill yourself? What about Charlie? What about-"
"I didn't try to kill myself." Bella interrupted. "I was cliff jumping. Recreationally. It was fun." Alice sighed in defeat.
"I have never known anyone more prone to life threatening idiocy." Alice said.
"Does he...Did you tell..." Bella trailed off not able to finish her sentence, but Alice knew exactly who she was talking about.
"No." She responded. "He only calls once every few months. He said he wants to be alone."
"This Edward we talking about?" Dean interrupted. Bella and Alice looked at him. Alice gave him a small nod and Dean cracked his knuckles. "Wait till I get a hold on him."
"You know, he's probably a vampire too. He could kill you." Sam retorted.
"I've killed vampires before."
"Please don't kill... him." Bella begged. Alice drew in a deep breath and her face wrinkled in disgust.
"Bella, what is that god awful wet dog smell?" She questioned. Dean raised his brows and smelled himself.
"It's not me." He answered. Sam rolled his eyes at his brother's idiocy.
"Oh, that's probably Jacob." Bella replied.
"Jacob who?"
"Jacob is kind of a werewolf."
"He's a what?" Dean asked in surprise.
"Oh wow, that's new." Sam added. "Another strand?" Alice nodded her head.
"Bella, you really aren't keeping good company. Hunters and werewolves are not good company to keep!"
"Speak for yourself." Jacob's voice filled the room. Everyone looked towards him, then back at Bella.
"I thought you couldn't protect me here."
"I just wanted to make sure." Jacob responded.
"Well, I'm not gonna hurt her." Alice added.
"No, you're just a harmless Cullen. I'm talking the other bloodsucker who is trying to kill Bella because of you."
"Victoria?" Alice looked at Bella and she nodded her head.
"Yeah, she's been around."
Dean leaned closer to his brother. "Who the hell is Victoria?"
"I don't know." Sam whispered back.
"Fantastic."
"I didn't see her." Alice added, referring to her visions. "I didn't see you get pulled out of the water, either." Alice looked towards Jacob. "I can't see past you and your pack of mutts."
"Don't get me upset." Jacob threatened, inching closer to Alice. "Things will get very ugly." Sam and Dean jumped out of their chairs as Bella placed herself between them. She looked at Alice and Alice gave her a disapproving look.
"I'll give you two a minute." She said, moving towards the door. Bella shot a look towards the boys.
"You don't want us to leave too, do you?" Dean asked.
"Let's just go, Dean." Sam said, pulling his brother towards the door. Bella looked at the three as Alice placed her hands on the doorknob.
"Hey, you're not going anywhere right? You're going to come right back?" Bella asked, making sure the only Cullen she was able to see for now wouldn't leave her.
"As soon as you put the dog out." Alice commented, very proud of herself. The boys followed after her and closed the door behind them. Alice made her way down the sidewalk and towards the Impala.
"So, you're a vampire, huh?" Dean asked. Alice turned to face him.
"That I am. And you two are hunters."
"Yes." Sam responded.
"That wasn't a question. Why are you here?" She asked.
"String of murders, we figured it was our kind of gig and it is." Dean responded. "Unfortunately for Bella, we gotta gank you and her little dog friend."
"We aren't harming anyone. It's the other vampire out here." Alice explained. "Victoria wants revenge on my brother for killing her mate. We all thought she was after Edward, but it looks like she's after Bella."
"Why would she go after Bella?" Sam asked.
"So Edward knows what it's like to live without a mate." Alice stopped and stared at the ground. Worry began to paint her face.
"Alice, is everything okay?" Sam asked. She snapped back to it and looked at the boys.
"It's Edward."
