Amon stared up to the vile demon king with a contemptuous glare. The sight alone brought him back to a terrible place, sending a chill up his spine and a loathsome stiffness to his muscles. Zennon saw this but grinned at him anyway, it was a grin that intended no good and Amon wasn't having it. He didn't even want to speak to him. The warrior flipped his body around and took off into the air carelessly. The king simply shook his head wearing calm features.

Zennon joined him in the sky with an ease about him. It was the same airs he always had when he wanted something out of him.

"Oh Amon, where are you even going?"

The fabled demon's face crumpled in annoyance, he beat his wings down faster, speeding away from the irksome situation. Zennon watched him off but didn't let him get far.

"Please Amon, haven't you tried running away before? It didn't work the last time," he chuckled nonchalantly. The red devil clenched his teeth and shook his head as if to rid himself of Zennon's words. He tried to fly deeper into the clouds, zig zagging through swiftly as to try and lose him. Unfortunately, it seemed whichever way he went he couldn't lose him.

Amon's patience was all but dried up, he could see Zennon coming up behind him again, and this time he twisted around to face him.

"Finally, Amo-"

"You follow me anymore and I will beat the Hell out of you, understand!?" Amon snapped. Zennon seemed to have a touch of genuine surprise dust over him before it was promptly disposed of.

"Yes, I'm sure you would…"

"Yeah, I would, and you know that…" Amon spat, turning away. Zennon allowed him to get a distance away but not yet out of ear shot.

"Very well, I hope you have a nice rest of your night, because without me that's all you'll get anyway!" he yelled. A buried rage lit up throughout Amon's entire being forcing him to swing his head back with bared teeth and a wrathful look. The clouds around him rippled from his abrupt shift and even the air surrounding him turned hot.

"You're a damn bigger fool than I thought if you actually think I ever needed you for anything! You pathetic waste dare call yourself a king, when you made me do all your heavy lifting for you!"

"Funny Amon, that's never how I saw any of it," he remarked slyly.

"Of course you didn't, everything was going your way! That's why you went along with Lucifer and that lie he told about me because I finally tossed you aside, and I didn't aid you anymore!"

Amon hadn't realized in his outburst how much backtracking he had done. He was now nearly face to face with him and descending to the ground ever more.

"Aww Amon, did you forget what luxuries you lived in for all that you did for me and the demon tribe as a whole?"

"A whole? You mean the fraction of the demon tribe that was in power. You didn't care about demons you thought were too weak!" Amon's eyes had a pained craze showing through his narrowed features.

"Well neither did you," Zennon smirked, seeming unusually pleased with the conversation's direction.

"No, I may kill but I believe in an honorable fight, that's not what you were doing, you were doing what Lucifer told you. Enslaving those demons, your own demons to use for merging in God's war, you'd never even give them the chance to prove themselves. Some of them had hidden powers you were about to just throw away! I saved them!"

"Oh, please Amon, you never cared about other demons until the last second when you suddenly had that change of heart. Though I think we both know it wasn't for your heart was it? That witch became so sentimental when she went off the deep end and so did you, it's a shame. You both had so much potential…"

"You don't talk about her, you're not worthy to even speak her name!" An intensity frothed out of Amon's tone. He was standing hostility without a smidge of hesitance, prepared to pounce at any wrong move. For once Zennon retracted slightly. The sounds of crickets and the natural world were deafening in their wordless stalemate. It was clear Zennon was rethinking his course of action and in just that moment he reclaimed his control.

"Amon, my old friend…" the three headed devil approached peaceably.

"You're not my friend."

Zennon frowned, "Hmm pity, I want to be your friend."

"Yeah, I know," the ferocity in Amon's voice hadn't relented one bit. Zennon closed his eyes and breathed in his forbearance.

"Look Amon, we've gotten off on the wrong foot. I know we've had our quarrels in the past, but you misjudge me now. Can't you see all I want now is for you to come home to us, to live with us forever, I want to free you from that boy."

"You have no home to offer me, and all your doing is wasting what little time I have left. There's nothing you can do to grant me more," he crossed his arms rigidly.

Zennon's lip curled cruelly, "Do you have any home at all Amon?"

The wings on the legendary demon's head twitched and his eyes rose wearily. He didn't like the effect that comment had on him, his nose crinkled, and his brow knit.

"I don't need one, I make anywhere my home," he proclaimed with a high chin and a sinking heart.

"Uh huh…" Zennon allowed his sights to taper. "Look Amon, all I'm saying is our demon tribe misses you, they looked up to you, you know. I know you at least cared about preserving demonkind, or maybe you did, how you're going about it now hasn't seemed too beneficial has it?"

The crimson beast grimaced, the topic was still too sore for him and Zennon could see it. The king simpered easing closer to the distressed being.

"That's right, I know you mean well Amon, it wasn't your fault to be captured by that horrible boy," He attempted to reach out and touch the devil's shoulder. He jerked away but kept his head down and eyes clouded in fret. Zennon slumped a little but remained composed.

"Amon no one blames you, you're but a victim of fate, including that Devilman. I know it's all in Satan's will and plan to retake this world as the demon's own, and I'm sure Devilman is only a temporary means to an end anyway."

"I want nothing to do with Lucifer," Amon grumbled.

"I hate to break it to you, but you're already pretty close to him."

Amon's face sprung back up with a harshness, "None of that is me, the boy's naive and trusts him. I want no part of him, he only looks out for himself, he only wishes to use demonkind to fight his father cause he can't do it himself! You all are falling right into his trap, he's gonna use you like he did me and now my boy!"

Zennon seemed perturbed, flinching his head. His heavy hooves clomped as he repositioned himself a small distance apart from Amon. He stared him down, crossing his winged arms around himself.

"I know you and our lord have had troubles in the past, and whatever his reasoning is he's willing to use his might to save our kind. You two were friends once I remember, don't you?"

"I try not to. All he ever did was try to use me, just like he's doing now, and just like you!"

"You say used; I see partnered-"

"Partnerships would be even, you never treated me equally, you left me in the dark and tried to shut me up with luxuries. You feared my power but also coveted it! You only used me to make yourself look better!" his fur ruffled.

"Amon…" Zennon huffed. "Your place is amongst the rest of the demons, no matter how you feel about me, that's a fact, and you are a most ruthless devil. Would you really toss aside the chance to stand before them again, stand beside me and hear them cheer your name? You'd live royally all over again, only the best meats and demonesses. All these riches would fall into your lap and rightfully, because you are the defender of our kind!"

The wild spark that fueled Amon's spirit was starting to dim hearing that and Zennon couldn't be more pleased. The mighty demon recalled his time of glory, the opulent celebrations, the encompassing roar of demons's joy at his presence. It was an exciting moment in his life, it fed his feral desires and boosted his ego, but there was always a hollowness. Even then, that life left an emptiness in him he would suppress in gratification, but never understood.

"You remember it Amon, I see it. When you ran away, we all regretted it, didn't we?" Zennon locked eyes with him. The patronizing smile he made was enough to make Amon retch. He pulled away feeling the flush of humble memories glazed over him. His life in the banished lands, there wasn't much there but it held the most important thing to him. It was there he met what he had always been missing.

"...No, I didn't regret it…"

A second wave of energy returned to Amon. He placed himself assured and firm once again staring Zennon back at his level.

"But you did, you knew you made a mistake when you went too far and made me your enemy! Ever since, even to this day, you've been scrambling to get me back because now I'm a threat to you!"

Any false friendliness Zennon had been putting up fell apart there. His expression quickly became irritated feeling the power shift away from him.

"You know, If I'm such a pushover to you and you're so great, why haven't you taken my crown then?"

Amon smiled, slipping a in a chuckle. "Because God's do not covet the thrones of mere kings." Zennon winced, the appalment sat on his features completely unfiltered. "You go ahead and believe you're the demon king, hell they can make you their king, but you're not mine."

"Alright, I tried to be nice Amon, but you just don't get it. I wanted to bring you back and reach out to you. You could be so much better, but you know the truth is ever since you ran away the demons have hated you. You were their hero; you were supposed to protect us, and you abandoned everybody!"

The bruting devil would be dishonest if he denied the cut that statement left on him. The wings on his head drew back and his expression was tugged back into a scowl. He sighed and his eyes became meditative.

"Yeah, well that's something for me to worry about then isn't it?"

Zennon hissed through a sneer.

"You know, you almost had me there for a second, working me up and trying to get to me again like you always did, it was a nice try really. But I've wasted enough time on you, you're not worth it," The Devil said curtly.

"Fine, be my guest, you're not one of us anyway. You're an outcast!" He spoke venomously.

Amon shrugged, "I already knew that. After I finally woke up and smelled all the bullshit coming from the council, you and especially Lucifer there's no way I'd stay. I was never one of you, I just had to figure it out!" Amon smiled brimming with a spiteful vigor.

Zennon was festering from the inside out, "Go ahead, you'll see, you'll just fail all over again on your own! The only time you were ever successful is when you worked with me!"

Amon crossed his arms and simply smiled, "Nah, I was, you just couldn't see it." He allowed himself a tiny laugh that preceded his departure. As Amon was walking away from the king, he could still hear him belting out hateful sentiments.

"Where do you expect to go now? Back to that boy? I was going to save you from him, we could have worked to separate you two for good but now that's gone! You think you were my slave, but no. You just got a new master now, don't ya!?"

There was pain listening to that, but Amon didn't let it show he just kept moving. He wasn't a slave, he was owned by no one, he repeated the statement over in his mind like a mantra. His head was high and a confidence in his step that Zennon wouldn't dare follow any longer.

"You can never come back Amon, you hear me! I banish you! The only hope you'll ever have to set foot back in the demon tribe is if you dedicate your entire existence to me!"

The mighty warrior didn't look back; he spread his wings open and didn't grant him even a glance as he took off into the air. Zennon watched him leave with disdainful eyes.

Amon flew like a jet across the jeweled night sky with one person encapsulating every corner of his thoughts. He had escaped this night for one reason, and this was it. He was set on his course, it was quite a distance to the ice caps, but he'd make it, he'd be sure of it. All was in place and he was determined to make the most of his freedom, he was determined to find her the one being that ever filled him with true happiness.

"I'm coming back to you and I will find you, my dearest Nike."
