Sports festival is here! Enjoy~
When the morning of the sports festival came, Zoro napped in the corner of the waiting room while Sanji ate a healthy snack he'd made and Luffy was reading a book with his feet on the table. They were in their gym clothes, not their costumes. Some complained, but to Luffy it wasn't a very big deal. Many were nervous, and asked how they were so calm.
"There's no use being scared. It's not gonna help you," Luffy said, turning a page of his book. "Do some meditating or something." Todoroki was being weird and glaring at Midoriya for some reason. Luffy was reading but also paying attention to whatever he was saying. Most of them were all sitting down when Todoroki finally did what he'd clearly been waiting to do.
He walked up to Midoriya after Iida came in and said they were starting soon. He said, "Midoriya. Looking at things objectively, I think I'm stronger than you." Midorya had the grace to agree and not make a fuss. Luffy and the other two were watching in interest. Everyone was. "But… All Might has his eyes on you, doesn't he? I'm not trying to pry about that. But I'm going to beat you."
The class watched in silence before Kaminari said, "That's pretty useless if you can't win over the monster trio."
"Shut it, Kaminari," Zoro grumbled.
Luffy nodded, saying everyone was doing their best, friendly rivalry was a good thing. He looked at Bakugo. "Friendly rivalry." Bakugo glared and looked away, Sanji snickering. Todoroki acted like he'd heard none of that, just wanting to beat Midoriya. For some reason. Even though he was definitely not the best in the class. Then he continued. "We're not here to play as friends, so what does it matter?"
Luffy couldn't help but say, "Well, that's pretty pessimistic. I thought you were our friend." Todoroki looked a little taken aback before he went to leave the room to go into the hall. Midoriya replied before he left.
Midorya pretty much said he knew he was weaker than Todoroki, but everyone was trying their best, and he was going to go at it with full force.
"Yeah," Todoroki replied.
Nami cooed, "Aww, it's love," and the class erupted into laughter, ruining the tense atmosphere and making Midoriya look shocked and horrified and Todoroki just looked at her in slight disbelief.
Bakugo was even laughing at Midoriya's expense. "Why would you think that Nami-chan?" Tsu wondered.
"They're just so adorable. But I could be wrong and it would be Bakugo and Midoriya. After all, they seem to hate each other and hate/love is a thing. I ship all three of them. Oh, but Kirishima seems close to Bakugo, too. Hmm, so many possibilities." Bakugo screamed she was a fucking idiot. Sanji yelled at him about yelling at a lady but the class was laughing again. Poor guys.
Luffy said, "Nami, stop being mean." She just smiled and crossed her arms. But it lifted the atmosphere even if it was no longer to embarrass the poor targets of her teasing. She said the same thing to Zoro and Luffy once, in sixth grade. Zoro had just scoffed and Luffy said, "Mmm, I don't think I'm gay. I mean, maybe in the future, but me and Zoro are just best friends." Her teasing didn't work against Luffy, but she made better friends with him after that.
Almost immediately after that, it was time for them to go out. Present Mic, unsurprisingly, was commentator, and introduced the first years excitedly, with everyone cheering as the group walked out of the hall and onto the field in the arena. Midoriya was still red in the face, and Kirishima patted him on the back and said, "Don't mind."
God, Nami was cruel. Present Mic went on about how class 1-A fought villains were the stars, yada yada. They and then class 1-B were all cheered for by everybody, though they looked more sour about it. Luffy could understand why. The trio were grinning widely, though Luffy's smile looked the silliest, even though he was the demon.
After class 1-B was the general studies classes, the support classes, and the business course.
Luffy was a bit shocked when he was asked to go up on stage, as he was representing class 1-A since he was top of the entrance exam. But, he was good at thinking on the spot. He was representing class 1-A so he didn't need to include the other courses.
He held the microphone and said, "When we're all pro-heroes and people look back at this to see our origins, we want to show them we did the best we can, and shone in our own, unique ways. So cheer us future heroes on as hard as you can, and be part of helping us to become better and better and fulfill our dreams!"
The crowd erupted into cheers, and Luffy casually walked back to his class. "You're a good public speaker!" Kirishima said. Luffy turned around and said, "That was scarier than the villain attack!" The class started laughing, and said that at least he made them look good.
Midnight told them they'd drink their tears, but based on what Aizawa liked to say, he doubted it would be that bad. The first activity was an obstacle race! They could use the quirks however they wanted. Hmm, maybe Luffy would use his wings and doom the other players on his way. That sounded fun.
"Luffy's gonna screw us all over," Kirishima muttered when Luffy got an evil sort of grin. The trio made sure they were first in line so they wouldn't get stuck in the crowd trying to get out of the hall.
"Best be prepared for some troubles, pack," Luffy warned.
"Didn't expect anything different," Sanji replied. He and Zoro were very fast from endurance training for years and just because both of them had strong, long legs. Luffy was shorter than them by a few inches, but he had his wings.
"Start!" and predictably, there was a bottleneck in the hall, and the first in the crowd were on their way. Luffy passed the first obstacle, which were bots. He saw Zoro slide under and Sanji kick over and start sprinting as fast as they could. Todoroki wasn't far behind, and Zoro hit him in the face with a metal baseball bat to throw him off. He laughed vindictively.
Luffy, the trickster he was, flew at Bakugo and kicked him far back to the start, hard and slammed him into the crowd. "Sorry, Bakugo!" he shouted and made up for his lost time, using his telekinesis to throw everyone off, making Todoroki slip and fall. He laughed the whole way.
He heard Present Mic introduce Luffy, but Aizawa said he'd never seen this side of him before. Usually he was bubbly or serious. He heard Present Mic tell everybody that Luffy had saved Aizawa and offed the monster at USJ. He didn't know how he felt about the information being public, but there was nothing he could do now.
He flew at full speed after toppling all of the stones anyone had a chance at making. Sanji took Zoro and kicked him off to the other side, where Zoro shot a harpoon of rope into the other side of the canyon, Sanji easily making it across, running on the rope with perfect balance. There were no rules about helping your friends.
Zoro left the rope for the others, and the three of them were in the first places. Todoroki and Bakugo weren't far behind, and Luffy threw them off again. "Fuck you, Luffy!" Bakugo screamed. Luffy just laughed along with his two friends. "You're cheating!"
They all heard Midnight say there was no rule against helping one another. Luffy heard, "I'm not surprised they're teaming up. The three of them have been best friends since kindergarten. They were also the top three in the entrance exam, and fought together at USJ. Their teamwork is impeccable," Aizawa explained.
When they got to the mines, Zoro shot the ground, and made his way to the ones that already exploded, like a dangerous game of hopscotch. Sanji followed. When Todoroki was on his way across the mines, Zoro shot a bullet at the mine, exploding them and throwing him off. Zoro laughed, and the three all made it through the door the same time, Luffy flying and his friends running.
Luffy landed and the three of them put their arms in the air, getting loud cheers. "And the first three spots are again snagged by the monster trio, as others call them! What a nasty way to win! I love it!"
They high fived Luffy. "That was so fun, but we made enemies out of everyone," Sanji said. And when the others came through, he was shocked that Midoriya was fourth, Todoroki fifth and Bakugo sixth.
Todoroki was a good sport about it. "You guys are jerks," he said simply. Luffy laughed and threw out a lighthearted apology. Bakugo was screaming, calling them cheaters and assholes.
Luffy put up both hands. "Well, it's all over now, nothing you can do about it. You can be angry in the next competition!"
When Yaoyorozu came out, and she had Mineta hanging onto her ass, Sanji was there and kicked him across the field. "Don't touch a lady without her permission!" he screamed furiously. Mineta was bleeding from the nose. And all of the first year girls around looked at him with smiles. He noticed this and was grinning brightly.
"A win for Sanji," Zoro said. Mineta skulked over when all of the girls both in the class and near in the crowd were glaring or scowling at him.
Midnight spoke once everyone was back, though only 42 made it. The first 42 included all of the 1-A class. Luffy was happy about it. And those who made it seemed to harbor no hate for the trio. After all, they made it regardless. The next activity was a cavalry battle. Luffy cocked his head in confusion. The point system was with the earliest winners having the most points. Since Luffy was first, he got 10 million points. "Ahh! Look, I'm worth 10 million points! Ahahahaha!" When he saw all the looks from everyone, he gave them a grin. They all looked at him greedily. "Bring it," he challenged.
They had 15 minutes to prepare and make teams. The three needed one more person. Luffy already had a plan, they just needed one more person to carry him. They looked around and they looked at Todoroki. "Wanna win with us?" Luffy asked with a bright smile. "C'mon, we're not Midoriya. You don't gotta surpass us. Plus, I have a great plan!"
Todoroki sighed and then walked over. Luffy told them all about his plan, and they were sure it would work. So, when the battle started, Sanji was in front, and Zoro and Todoroki were on either side, with Luffy being the rider. They were in position, and Luffy actually wasn't heavy despite his wings. Todoroki was surprised with this.
When it started, they ran to the nearest group, and Luffy made a messy swipe with his hands. "Damn it!" he shouted, with the other team laughing at him and running off. The four of them grinned and Luffy wrapped the headband around his head. Nobody knew how dexterous his tail was, and he made his wings flap around to be a distraction.
The other team said, "Wait! Our headband is gone!" but they'd realized much too late. The next team came over, wanting to snatch Luffy's 10 million, but they missed, and Luffy swiped back, nabbing the headband with his tail again. After he stole a headband, he hid his tail in between his wings. Nobody could see it.
Tororoki froze the legs of those they stole the headbands of. When one of the four they'd stolen came on Zoro's side, he slashed a sword arm, easily supporting Luffy with one arm. "Don't worry, if you get slashed, Recovery Girl is here to help," he said in a dark voice, his grin wide and evil.
Sanji wasn't doing anything but leading them, and he was fine with that. Students were shouting about where the hell their headbands had gone. Luffy had all of them around his neck, out of view of his wings. The plan was perfect. All three of them were grinning, and finally someone realized how they were getting the headbands.
Present Mic finally realized, and told everybody that team Luffy was snatching all of the headbands with his tail. He pulled it out of his wings and waved it around, grinning. The other teams were now wary of his tail, but they lost when Todoroki froze their legs and Luffy snatched it. His tail was longer than his arm by far, so it was able to reach at a longer distance.
By then, people were avoiding them, going after one another. A guy with crazed eyes went after them, and he touched Zoro, turning an arm into a sword. "Oh? And are you any good at that sword?" Zoro asked, grinning as he let off a slash that they had to clumsily avoid that cut open part of the wall.
"Zoro's sword sure is dangerous! Beware getting sliced apart!" Present Mic shouted, having so much fun narrating. Midoriya's group was doing alright, but Luffy's had seven headbands with their original huge score. By the time the fifteen minutes were up, Luffy's group had eight headbands. There were three other groups that won.
Team Bakugo, team Midoriya and team Shinso. Nami and Usopp were not in any of those groups, sadly. But Midorya made it! Luffy got off and they all stood. "Nice, Todoroki!" Luffy said, and high fived him. He honestly said he had thought Luffy was an idiot. But that plan was really smart.
"Eh, thank you?" Luffy asked, not sure what to make of that. Sanji was laughing at it.
Midnight didn't waste time before announcing the last activity. One on one battles! For once, the three didn't smile. They knew it would be like this, there was no other way. But they also knew they needed to walk a fine line. Not get hit a single time, but not go all out. Luffy turned to his pack and said, "Well, we'll manage somehow."
"Always do," Sanji said simply. Zoro said he'd have to fight seriously against the girls, if he was against one of them. If he wanted to make it to the top three, he had to have a way to fight them. Sanji grinned, and said he already had a plan for that. But there were only three girls out of the sixteen. Uraraka, Yaoyorozu, and a girl from the support class. Luffy wondered what his plan was.
Everyone sat in the stands as the tier was made. Luffy was against Tokoyami. That would be fun, he hadn't seen much of Dark Shadow. Zoro's first match was Sero, which would be easy. Sanji was against Iida. Both used their legs. The rest, they weren't interested in any but Todoroki, Midoriya and Bakugo.
Luffy wondered how Midorya was going to be able to fight with his quirk the way it was; a complete mess. He hadn't used it in the obstacle course, but he'd have to use it now. Probably. Most likely. Maybe. Well, they'd see.
During the break, Luffy flew down and got some food from the stands outside, piling it in a cup he made in his shirt, carrying drinks wrapped in his bendy tail. He made it back up. "I have brought food," he said, and handed his best friends the food and drinks. "Now it's like we're watching a movie."
Kirishima snagged some popcorn, and Luffy didn't mind. He'd gotten a massive one and with some candy. The first match was Shinso and Midoriya. They sat back in their seats and Luffy prepared for a boring battle. Nothing against Midoriya, but he just wasn't a flashy fighter. Besides breaking his bones, that is.
He snacked on the popcorn while Midoriya started to walk right out of the stage right after the match started. A boring match indeed. Shinso probably had some sort of quirk that was mind control, and had worked on Midoriya. Hopefully he fought it off before he walked out, and Luffy leaned forward when there was a large gust of wind and he had two broken fingers.
Luffy and his friends were surprised, and then Midoriya shoved Shinso out of the ring, flipping him over his head until he was out of bounds. It was a quick fight. And boring. Nothing flashy at all.
Midoriya came back without getting his fingers treated, pushing through the pain. He was looking sad. "Don't look so sad, you won with minimal damage," Luffy said, offering him a redvine. He took it and ate it.
"Todoroki, comfort him," Nami said with a mean grin. Todoroki sent her a glare and she giggled behind her hand. Tsu said she should stop teasing them. If they were a couple, they could come out on their own. Todoroki put his hand in his face.
"You're evil, Nami," he said simply.
"Thank you," the redhead said happily. Midoriya was embarrassed again. Luffy pat his back comfortingly.
He said, "She did that to me and Zoro, too. Don't let her embarrass you." The others laughed and Zoro groaned, telling him not to remind him. Nami said Luffy had handled it gracefully, and she approved of his response, even if it left no room for further teasing. Kaminari and Ashido demanded to know what he said.
"Something like 'I don't think I'm gay, but might be when I'm older, maybe, but Zoro is just my best friend'. It was so perfect, so adorable. So I became good friends. We were also at the Whitebeards together when we were five. When my mom was killed, I stayed there for a little bit. That was when Luffy learned he could lift heavy things with his tail."
Kirishima asked in surprise, that he could use his tail like that so young. Luffy nodded, saying it's always been strong, but he didn't know just how strong until the nomu decapitation. "Go easy on whoever you fight."
Luffy nodded, saying he had complete control, and he wouldn't slip up. "I won't go so easy when I fight against Zoro and Sanji, though."
Zoro leaned back in his seat. "I'd be angry if you did anything else." Then he fell asleep during most of the matches until Luffy's. Luffy was on his phone most of the time, impatient for any interesting fights. There were none for that round. Sanji had been talking to Nami and Tsu the whole time.
When Luffy's match came, he flew down to one side and waited for Tokoyami to come down the stairs and to the other end. When Midnight put her flogger down, Luffy shot forward, and used his hands and feet without his claws, attacking Tokoyami.
Dark Shadow refused to come out, and Luffy stopped for him. Wanting to fight against Dark Shadow. It wouldn't come out. "What's wrong with him?" Luffy wondered. Their match was paused.
"He won't come out and won't say why," Tokoyami said angrily. Luffy pouted, and said that was no fun before throwing him out of the ring with his tail, none of the rest of his body moving. Luffy was sure he knew why Dark Shadow hadn't come out. He was afraid of Luffy. Dark Shadow had good instincts, and Tokoyami said he had great senses. He was scared of Luffy's demon blood.
Hopefully it wouldn't say anything about that to Tokoyami, though he was prepared to act offended and hurt if that wasn't the case. He flew back up to the stadium frowning. "Dark Shadow refused to fight me," he grumbled. "That was no fun at all."
Sanji said, "Better luck next time." Luffy nodded, and took back his mostly melted slurpee. Zoro was next against Sero. it went above as good as you'd expect, Zoro turning his arm into a bat and hitting Sero so hard in the side that he went tumbling out of the ring and into the grass, holding his side in pain.
Zoro had the grace to help him to Recovery Girl before heading back to the stands. A boring fight for him too. Luffy wondered if there was nobody more fun to fight than one another, since they didn't need to worry about injuries. Well, both of them had gotten through without showing any regeneration power.
Sanji was next against Iida, and both of them had strong legs. Whoever had the strongest would win. But Sanji's fight ended boringly when he blocked a kick with Iida's engine legs and then did a handstand and kicked his face, throwing him out of the ring. All three of the monster trio were disappointed.
Present Mic yelled about the three of them being monsters, one shotting their opponents. So, all three of them sat in their seats with their arms crossed like children. Luffy complained that this wasn't fun at all.
Hagakure scolded them. "That's kind of rude. They're doing their best, too. It was just a bad match up."
Luffy told her Dark Shadow hadn't even bothered coming out to fight him. Of course he was disappointed. Zoro said tape wasn't good against raw strength and Sanji said he had thought his fight would last longer. Luffy made sure she knew they weren't saying anything bad about their opponents, but were disappointed with how the battles went.
Sato said they won. So they shouldn't complain. The trio didn't bother replying, they wouldn't understand. Sanji turned to them and said, "Maybe nobody can compare to fighting each other."
Zoro replied, "And Ace and Sabo. And Marco when he has the time to."
Mineta was in shock and asked if they fought the Phoenix Marco. "Yeah, but he kicks our asses every time. And he doesn't hold back at all. I'd have huge bruises for weeks. Sanji lost a tooth to one of his kicks." They were all shocked.
Luffy claimed that he wanted his friends to be strong, so he didn't hold back. "Damn. No wonder you guys are strong if you get the shit beaten out of you by Phoenix Marco," Kaminari muttered. Kirishima said he was jealous, and wanted someone that strong to fight.
Bakugo scoffed. "I bet I could take him. Just burn his feathers."
Zoro snorted. "He's a phoenix. Meaning he can't sustain injuries. There's no winning against him. If you burnt him head to toe, he'd still regenerate just fine." They were all like phoenixs. Marco was a better fighter than Luffy was, though. So he didn't eclipse the man. Even if Luffy was a demon and very skilled, Marco had decades of learning his quirk perfectly and fighting against big time villains.
Jiro asked why someone so strong was working under another. "He loves Pops. All of us do. Family sticks together," Luffy said simply. "Marco isn't an underling, he's Pops' son. Has been since he was a little kid."
"Awwww!" Ashido cooed. "That's so sweet!"
Luffy smiled and said, "Pops should be number one, but he liked things how they are now. He's better than All Might." Midoriya frowned and said he was biased. "Yeah, and so are you, right?" Midoriya had nothing to say to that, knowing what Luffy said was true. "We've both admired them since we were little. I just know Pops more personally than I think you do All Might.
"But I could be wrong, you two hang out a lot together," Luffy said conversationally, eating his last redvine. He moved on to the cotton candy.
"Jesus, how much did you get?" Zoro asked. Luffy beamed, saying he spent all of his money on food. Good food, he made sure to say. Midoriya was quiet behind them before he left. Luffy saw him looking uncomfortable out of the corner of his eye. "Nice going, Luffy. You pissed him off."
Luffy pouted and said, "No, I was just being conversational! I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. I don't what was wrong with what I said." Sanji said maybe he was embarrassed that he loved All Might so much. Luffy shrugged, even if he didn't think that was it. They watched a couple more fights before the second round began. Kirishima had made it to the final round as well, after winning the tiebreaker between him and.
First up was Midoriya and Todoroki. Todoroki looked pissed and Midoriya determined. "No, true loves destined to fight!"
"Dude, stop, seriously," Zoro said. "I usually don't give a shit about who you tease or humiliate, but you're just embarrassing them. They're not gonna want to be your friends anymore," the green haired teen scolded. Nami looked shocked and then looked down and said she wouldn't do it anymore. "Really?"
"Really!"
"Don't doubt Nami-san," Sanji said. Zoro went, "Yeah, yeah." Luffy laughed at them. The battle was a disaster. Mostly because Midoriya was fighting Todoroki's ice back by breaking his fingers, sending waves of air at him. Everyone in the stand were wincing and had grimaces on. Then he used some of his broken fingers again. Next came his whole arm.
"How the hell would he fight in the final round after this if he did win?" Kirishima asked in bafflement.
Zoro crossed his arms and commented, "And nobody is gonna want to scout someone whose quirk destroys his body."
Luffy said, "At least he's doing his best. Even if it's not very smart… Well, Todoroki is strong even without his fire side. And this is a fight that Todoroki has been wanting, based on their encounter before the thing began. I wonder why," Luffy said curiously, slurping up Zoro's drink. He just noticed and yelled at Luffy about it. "I paid for it!" he whined.
Zoro shoved his arm, saying he'd given it to him, so it was his. Luffy stuck his tongue out at him, earning a hit to the head. "Your mean."
"You're annoying." But Luffy knew he was joking. But he was still thirsty. Then their attention was brought back to the fight when Todoroki flamed up. Luffy knew he'd never used his fire before, and had heard him say he never used that side. So what made him suddenly decide to use it?
Maybe something Midoriya said. But Cementos created barriers when they thought the fight was going too far. And Luffy agreed. Todoroki could have burnt Midoriya to death with that huge of a flame. It blew apart the cement walls, and everyone ducked for cover. They were shocked, and the match concluded with Midoriya out of bounds, his arms mangled and fingers destroyed.
"Idiot," Sanji hissed. Nobody said anything different. "If Recovery Girl weren't here, he would have been seriously fucked over doing that to himself." Nami said that not everyone was indestructible. But that he indeed went way too far.
The second round concluded with Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Todoroki the winners after Zoro got him out. They expected Bakugo to make it to the last round, not Todoroki. But now the monster trio would be fighting one another. They just needed to topple Todoroki and then they'd win, securing the top three spots once again.
The first fight was Luffy against Todoroki. Someone he knew he didn't need to go easy against. He could go full out on him. Plus, Recovery Girl was there in case he got too deep scratches. They stood on the stage. Luffy said, "I'm not going easy on you," and brought his claws out, taking his shoes off to make his feet clawed as well.
Todoroki hadn't seemed very interested in the fight until he saw that Luffy was going to be serious. He had to guard and fight back or he'd be in serious pain. He shot forward, dodging the ice and flying at him, swiping his nails across Todoroki's chest, drawing blood. He did a flip and slammed his foot down on Todoroki's guarded arm.
He broke the ice apart with his tail and attacked again, slicing his arms before ducking under a burst of fire and uppercutting him. He wrapped his legs around his middle and slammed him down into the cement ground.
But he wasn't out for the count and jumped back. Luffy followed, mercilessly cutting up and giving him painful bruises all while evading every single attack sent his way. Present Mic was shocked by the change of Luffy's fighting. How merciless he was being, and how much blood was dripping onto the cement below.
"He's not cutting deep, don't freak out," Aizawa said. And Luffy wasn't. But enough cuts could be bad. They could hear Endeavor, Todoroki's dad, screaming at him to fight back.
Luffy was slammed in the gut with ice, being thrown back before planting his claws into the cement to stop himself from going out of bounds. He shot forward again, just barely dodging a huge burst of flame. Now Todoroki was being serious, backed into a corner and bleeding heavily. Luffy's claws were covered in blood. Luffy dodged another burn to the face, and flipped, trapping Todoroki's arm in his legs, tightening them and breaking his arm.
He grunted and now couldn't use his fire side. Now all he had was ice. He trapped Luffy's arm in ice, but he used his own tail to shatter the ice and smack him with it in the side. It threw him down, and Luffy jumped, barely missing Todoroki's body as he rolled to the side. He started to seem to get dizzy from blood loss, so Luffy ended the match by throwing him out of bounds with his tail.
The stadium was quiet in shock of the battle. Luffy had changed fighting tactics completely from the others he'd fought. With Tokoyami, he just threw him out of bounds and the forgettable fight with the green haired girl. Here, he was being violent and dangerous.
But the moment he was declared the winner, he ran to Todoroki and carried him to Recovery Girl. Todoroki was shocked. "I know you're strong, so I didn't pull any punches," Luffy said with a bright smile. The fire and ice user nodded, and was being healed and given some gummies. She glared at Luffy and he left to go see Zoro and Sanji's battle.
He retrieved his shoes and flew back up. His class was silent in shock. None of them had seen him against the villains as they were in different places. He wiped the blood off of his fingers onto his shorts. They'd need to be washed regardless.
"Man, you're crazy scary," Mineta said.
Luffy simply said he thought Todoroki was one of the more dangerous opponents he could have in the class and went all out in a show of respect for him. "He wasn't angry with me afterwards, and Recovery Girl can fix him up easily." He leaned forward, and said, "Zoro and Sanji are going to be brutal to each other."
Zoro shot forward first, using his swords until the match was stopped, and he was told he couldn't use blades. He made an angry sigh and changed it to metal baseball bats. Then they went hard on each other, and Luffy could hear bones snapping, but they kept fighting. There were no cuts, so nobody could see any wounds healing. Zoro slammed Sanji in the face with the bat, but he got up and kicked Zoro in the front of the neck. The class was wincing at every heavy blow that would be fatal to anybody else. Sanji could have died with the hit to the head.
Maybe… fighting so hard wasn't the best way to get attention. "Are these really best friends?!" Present Mic shouted when Zoro got a bloody nose and Sanji's lip was bleeding. The injuries were gone, but the blood was still there.
"They're best friends and that's why they respect each other enough to not go easy. Though I agree, this is hard to watch," Aizawa commented when Sanji was thrown to the ground and rolled, barely missing a bat slam to the head that cracked the cement.
The crowd was gasping, and finally Zoro ended it by punting Sanji out of bounds, making him roll and hit the side. He was panting, hands back to normal and resting on his thighs. "A-And the winner is Zoro!"
Sanji limped over, pretending to be injured, and he and Zoro gave a fist bump. Both of them were breathing heavily. Midnight said to take a break before the last round, Luffy vs Zoro. Sanji and Zoro came back up and were grinning. Bakugo was staring at them suspiciously.
Ashido asked, "H-How are you two okay after that?" in shock. Luffy raised his brows, wondering what the answer would be. "I mean, Sanji got a metal baseball to the head and was fine."
Zoro said, "It looked a lot worse than it was." But even he was upset he'd gone for the head. Though Sanji had kicked him in the face, too. "Sorry for going for the head, Sanji."
Sanji just grinned, saying he was fine and was glad he went all out. "It actually shows how we are at fighting." Then he fell asleep from exhaustion and snored loudly. Zoro grinned at Luffy. But Luffy wouldn't fight with his claws or it would show him healing immediately.
"Hand to hand? If you can't use blades, I can't use my claws," Luffy offered. Zoro said it would be a long fight, doing hand to hand. "It'll be fun! C'mon, no quirks?"
Zoro sat and said, "Well, that would show we're able to fight without our quirks. Deal, hand to hand." He grinned at the end. "I'm gonna beat your ass so bad. I'm gonna be number one this time."
Luffy laughed. "Good luck with that." Zoro wasn't offended. They both guzzled bottles of water from the guy going around the stands. Everyone in the class was looking at them in… confusion.
Uraraka was back and saw Sanji and Zoro's fight. She'd missed Luffy vs Todoroki but had seen him covered in blood in the infirmary. She was looking at them in confusion. "I thought you guys were friends? How could you hurt each other like that?"
"Did Sanji ask you to go easier?" Luffy asked Zoro.
"Nope," the green haired said, arms behind his head. "If he had asked me to go easier, I would have." Luffy nodded. "Maybe it's a guy thing. I would compare it to Bakugo but he has no friends, so that comparison wouldn't really work."
"Fuck off!"
Nami pointed out that he had a one sided friendship with Kirishima. "But I never saw you guys do that to each other in elementary school. What changed?" Luffy said they got stronger, simply. And he added they couldn't exactly battle at recess in elementary school, so of course she didn't see them like that. "True."
It was only a ten minute break before they were called down to the stage. Luffy carried Zoro down while flying and dropped him at one side while he went to the other. "And after that intense fight, how will Luffy and Zoro fight? The last match is sure to be a good one!"
They rushed at each other, and the punches flew. They fought perfectly, dodging every hit and just barely missing each time. Luffy finally used his wings and dive bombed him, missing and bouncing back off of his hands. He ducked and wrapped his legs around Zoro's neck and slammed him down. Zoro stood up and grabbed Luffy's scruff and smashed him into the ground.
He got up and the fighting continued for over ten minutes, both of them panting before Luffy kicked Zoro hard enough to knock him down, Luffy grabbed his ankle and threw him out of the arena, though Zoro grabbed his neck and both of them flew out. The fight wasn't over and they continued to fight on the grass, too engulfed in the battle without their quirks.
Luffy rolled on the grass and tripped him. How would they win if both were out of bounds? Luffy picked Zoro up completely and slammed him down into his knee. He was down, and Luffy was the last one standing.
Zoro was fine, and stood up. "Damn it, you win," he panted. Both of them passed out, exhausted from the fifteen minute, intense fight. But they both woke up when Midnight shook them. They both groaned, bodies sore despite their healing. They walked back to the stage and Luffy leaned heavily on Zoro's shoulder, both of them with bloody noses.
They thrust their arms in the air and the stands erupted into cheers. They took a breather and some water before the medals were given out. Luffy carried Sanji down, waking him up to take the third place medal. The three of them were all so tired they were sitting on the stands as they accepted their awards.
"I've never seen fights like that before! These three will make very strong pro-heroes! Then again, the three of them have all learned from and trained with the Whitebeards!" The crowd gasped in shock and the three laughed.
Luffy smiled and said, "We did it. Snagged top three again. I hope everyone doesn't hate us."
"Screw 'em if they hate us for winning," Zoro said. They laughed. It was a fulfilling day with finally good fights at the end.
