Chapter 6- Dead Flake
Two hours later. The headlights of the Humvees lit the road. The group stopped at a sign. The sign had SnowFlake on it.
"Why did we stop?" Westley asked through the CB radio.
"Because it's not smart to go into a city at night," Daniel says.
Westley looks at the others. He looks forward and grabs the microphone, "We should pass through with caution," he says into the radio.
"We can't see around us," Billy says.
"So what, you just want to sit here?" Westley asks.
"We're in armor cars with mounted guns. I think we'll be fine," Billy says.
"Alright, fair," Westley says. He shuts off the engine. He looks at Kyra and then at the others. "Looks like we're going to be staying here for a bit. You guys better get some sleep," he says.
"Sounds good to me," Wayne says, he leans back and closes his eyes.
The blue haired woman; Angelica leans back and also closes her eyes. Everyone starts to relax and fall asleep. Billy makes sure Kara is asleep before he climbs out of the car and gets up on the hood. He looks at the city and pulls out his Colt. He sees one of the dead coming towards them. He jumps down and pulls out his sword. He walks up to the dead and cuts its head in half. It goes to the ground and Billy heads back to the hood.
Westley looked around; couldn't see anything outside the windows. Westley looked at Kyra who had her eyes closed, trying to fall asleep. "I can't just sit here," Westley says as he opens the door.
"What are you doing?" Travis asks after hearing the door open.
"Shh. I'm getting some air," he whispers.
Travis nods and closes his eyes. Westley gently closed the door and leans up against the Humvee door. Billy tapped his knife against the hood of the Humvee. He pulls out a picture of him and his dad before he left for L.A.
Westley looked into the darkness of the night, he heard footsteps. He unsheathes his Combat Knife and looks around. He sees a walker. The walker was an old woman with short gray hair. The old woman was missing a hand. Westley lunges forward and stabs the woman in the side of the head. He pulls his knife out as the walker falls to the ground. He wipes the blood off the blade of the knife and sheaths it. He walks back and leans up against the Humvee.. Billy reaches into his bag and pulls out a handgun. Rick had given it to him when he started shooting him. His dad gave him the handgun on his ankle. He wonders if Rick had woken up as he was a second dad to him.
Westley sighed as he looked up at the night sky. "Drake your ass better be alive," he says quietly. The passenger side door opens and Kyra steps out. She looks at Westley and walks over to him.
"You worried?" Kyra asks.
"No, I know my brother is alive. I just don't know where he is, you know he could have left Georgia. He could be on his way to Cali," he answers.
Kyra nods and looks up at the moon. "My parents died when I was young. My Aunt raised me, she died last year. I'm glad none of them are alive to live through this hell," she says.
Westley looks away from the sky and at Kyra. He doesn't say anything, he doesn't know how to respond.
Kyra looks away from the sky and looks at him, making eye contact. The two slowly lean their heads closer and their lips meet.
"How many weapons do you have?" Alicia asks. Billy turns his head away from the gun and looks at her. "Sorry didn't mean to sneak up on you," Alicia jumps on the hood beside him. "How many?"
"If you don't count my swords as two weapons. I have five. My Colt, my handgun on my ankle. A knife on my side and this gun,"
"Why do you not carry that on you?" Alicia asks.
"A close friend gave it to me when I was young. I guess I want one thing that hasn't been made worse by this world. This is that one thing," Billy says. Alicia nods and looks at him.
"Can I ask a favor?" Alicia asks. Billy nods. "I want you to teach me how to survive how to shoot and do everything you do. I want to survive, but I also want to live," Alicia says. Billy looks at her for a second and nods. He jumps down and helps her down. He hands her Ricks's gun. "I thought you said you didn't want to dirty it,"
"I'm not. I'm using it for something good," Billy says as he starts to help Alicia with her stance.
Westley and Kyra move their heads away. "That wasn't supposed to happen, I'm… uh… Sorry," Kyra says.
"Uh yeah… I'm sorry too," Westley replies.
There is a moment of awkward silence. "I better get some sleep," Kyra said, breaking the silence.
"Oh yeah. Of course, I don't want my camerawoman falling asleep when we are filming," he replied.
Kyra shook her head, "Uh huh." Kyra smiles and walks back to the passenger side. Westley watches as she got into the Humvee. Billy walks around Alicia and makes sure she hands a good stance and nods.
"You should get some sleep. This was a good start," Billy says. Alicia nods as she hands him the gun and goes back to the Humvee. Billy jumps up on the Humvee and smiles.
The sun had just risen. Westley opened his eyes, he only had a few hours of sleep. Kyra's head is on his shoulder as she sleeps. Westley looked back at the others, everyone still is asleep. Billy hits Daniel's door. Daniel rolls down the window. "Wake everybody up and grab the bag of food. We need to eat," Billy says. Daniel nods as Billy goes to Westley's car and hits it.
Westley rolls down the window. "Wake everybody up. We eat and than we move," Billy says.
Westley nods. "Everyone wakey wakey!" Westley says, waking up the others. "You all hungry, cause you going to eat."
Everyone gets out except for Westley who stays in the Humvee. Madison takes the food out and starts preparing it with Ofelia and Alicia. "You coming?" Billy asks him.
"Uh, yeah in a little bit," Westley answers.
"Is there a reason you're waiting?" Billy asks.
"No. I'm just not hungry, I'll wait until everyone else eats," Westley answers. He puts his hands on the back of his head and closes his eyes.'
"Don't go back to sleep. Hurry we all need to eat and go," Billy says before he walks away.
Westley sighs and gets out of the Humvee. He looks at the others. Westley walks to the back of the Humvee and grabs his machete. He walks over to the others and sits down. Madison hands the two a bowl of beans. Billy sits down by Daniel and Alicia.
Kyra walks over to Westley, "here," she says, handing Westley a can of chili.
"Uh, thanks," he replies. Kyra sits down next to him.
"Last night…" she says.
Westley looks at Kyra and then looks at the can of chili and takes a bite with a spork. "It wasn't anything?" Kyra says in more of a question.
"Of course it wasn't anything. It was just an emotional day and night," Westley says.
Kyra nods and looks away. She looks at Billy. "Yeah…" she says in a sigh.
"What are you looking at me for?" Billy asks.
"No reason," Kyra says. She looks away. Billy nods slowly and looks at Kara who is by Madison and Nick. He takes a bite.
Angelica walks over to Westley and Kyra. She sits down on Westley's other side. "So, are you and Billy brothers?" she asks.
"No," Westley says.
Angelica nods. She puts her hand on his shoulder. "Wow, you are tense and strong," she says with a grin.
Westley looks at the attractive woman. "Uh, okay," he says.
Kyra scowls at Angelica, "Why are you touching his shoulder like that?" she asks.
"No reason, he just looks stressed. Maybe I can help him relax a little," Angelica says.
Westley looks at Angelica and shakes his head.
"He is fine, maybe he doesn't want some random chick touching him!" Kyra harshly says.
"If you two start fighting over a boy I'm going to show you how fast I can kill two people with this Colt," Billy says.
"I'm not fighting," Kyra says. She looks at Angelica. "What did you even do before all this?" she asks.
Angelica looks at Westley then at Kyra. "I was a police officer for a couple of years. Then I resigned and became an exotic dancer," she answers. Westley moves Angelica's hand away. He scoots closer to Kyra bursts up laughing.
"I lost my appetite," Westley says.
"So let me get this right. You wasted your time in the police academy all that training to sell your body and make little money and for enough money let a man have sex with you," Billy says.
Angelica looks at Billy, "I am not a prostitute. I am an exotic dancer," she says with irritation.
"I think I'm going back to the Humvee," Westley says. He gets up and walks to the Humvee.
"You are older too, like what in your thirties?" Kyra asks.
Angelica scowls at Kyra. Kyra gets up and let's out a chuckle as she walks away to the Humvee.
Wayne yawns as he finishes a can of fruit. "I can eat about five of those cans," he says. "Finish eating. We should get moving soon," Billy says as he finishes his food and heads back to the Humvee. He looks at two of the dead as they scramble across the field towards them. He pulls out both of his swords and walks over to them. He stabs one in the head and takes off the others before he walks back to the Humvee while he cleans his swords.
Everyone ate and was now loaded into the two Humvees. Kyra sat in the passenger side and Westley sat in the driver's side. Strand, Chris, Wayne, Angelica and Travis sat in the back. Westley waits for Billy to move forward. Daniel pulls the Humvee forward. They sat the same way as yesterday the only difference is that Kara was between Alicia and Ofelia who were talking with the girl. Billy lays his head back and holds the map up. "We should be good to get through," Billy tells Daniel who nods.
The two Humvees move forward into the city. The houses looked untouched and there were barely any cars. Like everyone had got up and drove away from the city. "It's like the whole town left," Westley says through the radio.
"Maybe they did," Madison says through the radio as Billy looked at the map.
"They most likely fled to Phoenix, it was supposed to be a safe spot," Wayne states.
"Yeah, not anymore," Westley replies. He glances at Kyra.
Angelica looks at Westley but doesn't say anything. Kyra grabs the camera out of her bag and starts to film. "It's been eighteen days since we started filming. Phoenix Arizona has been overrunned and we are currently in Snowflake Arizona. The town appears to be gone, evacuated," she says.
"Hey, I wanna be on TV," Wayne teases. Kyra points the camera at him. "Hey, my name is Charles Wayne. I was in the national guard in Phoenix Arizona," he says to the camera.
Kyra smiles and moves the camera away. "Hey what about me?" Angelica whines.
"No strippers aloud!" Kyra snaps. She turns off the camera and puts it in her backpack. Madison looks at her daughter.
"So where did you go last night?" Madison asks Alicia.
"She decided to sneak up on me," Billy says. "And then asked me to train her which I agreed to. I want everybody who doesn't have training to get training when we find my Dad," Billy says.
Nick looks at Billy then looks out the window.
Westley looks out the window, he sees a general store. The general store looked untouched. Westley pulled over to the sidewalk. "Give me a bag," Westley says.
"Okay," Travis gives Westley a bag, "What are you doing?" he asks.
"These buildings haven't been touched or destroyed. We should get what we can, more food maybe," he answers. Westley gets out and walks towards the store. Billy steps out of the car and walks over to him.
"Nobody should go in alone," Billy says.
Westley nodded and unholstered his pistol. He walks to the front door of the small store. He slowly opens the door and walks in. He looks around the store, he holsters his pistol after not seeing anyone or walkers. . Billy had his Colt out as he watched Westley get supplies.
Westley grabs a box of bandages and rubbing-alcohol. He grabs more cans of food and bottles of water. He walks around the store he grabs a large candy bar, "Hell yeah," he mutters with a smile.
A man suddenly rushes out of the employees only room. The man had brown skin and short black hair. The man swings the bat he had in his hands. "Infected!" he shouts. Westley turns around.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! I'm not an infected!" Westley shouts. The man takes a deep breath of relief.
"Oh, people!" he says with a large grin. "There are still people!" he yells with excitement. Billy pulls the hammer back on his gun and moves away from Westley.
"What are you doing here? Everyone left for Phoenix, the safe zone," the man asks.
"You mean the safe zone that has been overrunned by infected," Westley says as he continues to gather supplies.
"What? I knew it! Everyone thought I was crazy for staying!" the man says with a raised voice.
"Is that why everyone is gone? They fled to Phoenix?" Westley asks. He zips up the bag and slings the straps though his arms.
"Yes, but you're here… Alive! You guys can stay here!" the man says.
"We are not doing that," Billy says.
"What? Why not?" the man asks.
"We are going to Georgia," Westley says.
"Then I come with you," the man says.
"Okay, fine," Westley agrees.
"He's in your car," Billy says.
"That's fine let's go," Westley says.
