A week went by since their talk in the storage unit but still they were as close as before. Sundown to sunrise, they spent the time together. One night; Napoleon was on his way to meet Charlotte; they were going up to the roof that night when Amelia came sprinting around the corner towards him. "Emperor!"
"What is it?" Napoleon asked, knowing instantly something was wrong. "What has happened?"
"Charlotte's been cornered by one of your soldiers, they're in the open area." Napoleon went chalk white but there was a fire in his eyes. Without saying a word, he ran with Amelia right beside him. As they neared the unit, they could hear yelling. Napoleon saw Charlotte on the floor, shaking with a soldier bearing down on her.
"Démissionner!" He shouted. Both the soldier and Charlotte looked up. "Charlotte, move." Charlotte got up and ran to Amelia who was waiting for her with open arms. Napoleon then turned back to the rebellious soldier who dared challenge his commander. The man smirked.
"Bonjour général." He said.
"Essuyez ce sourire sur votre visage." Napoleon spat back, reaching for his dagger. "Pose ton arme."
"Je ne sais pas pourquoi tu es contrarié, j'ai fait quelque chose de mal." Said the soldier.
"Quelle était la raison derrière l'attaque d'une femme, garçon stupide?" Napoléon asked "Et je ne vous le dirai plus, posez votre arme!"
"Quand la fille est-elle devenue si importante pour vous, commandant?" Said the soldier, "Tous les autres habitants parlent, des rumeurs volent. Je pensais sûrement que tu avais entendu."
"Tais-toi!" Napoleon said, "vous êtes hors ligne garçon."
"Suis-je?!" Challenged the soldier. Napoleon moved out of the way as the man attempted to rush him and landed on the floor. Napoleon stabbed the soldier in the ankle, and moved away again as the man pulled the dagger out of his leg only to look up again and see his commander standing over him, an old pistol in hand.
"Ne défiez jamais quelqu'un dans une bataille que vous allez perdre." He said darkly. The other soldiers came forward and grabbed their comrade's arms. "Le punir mais ne le tuez pas et ne lui causez pas de blessures graves qui pourraient soulever des questions le matin. Aller." The men dragged the rebel out of sight and Napoleon put the pistol back into his jacket, turning his attention back to Charlotte, who knelt on the ground with Amelia's arms tight around her. He knelt next to her and said, "Charlotte," She turned to look at him.
"Where's...?"
"Probably getting the stuffing knocked out of him." Said Amelia.
"Are you alright?" He asked. Charlotte nodded. "I will leave you with Amelia tonight, you seem to need her for now." Napoleon stood up and walked after his soldiers.
"Thank you," came Charlotte's quiet voice, "for saving me." Napoleon turned back to her, smiled and said,
"No one should treat a woman with such disrespect. I was merely teaching him that lesson." Napoleon nodded to Amelia with a look in his eyes that asked her to look after Charlotte. She smiled reassuringly and Napoleon turned back to follow the soldiers.
