Chapter 7: Enchanted Necklace

Cheyenne Forbes arrives home to find no one around. Her house furniture is old-fashioned and decorated with Victorian-style accessories. Her mother walks to the front of the door wondering what just came through the door. Mrs. Forbes is a woman in her late 30s—looks younger than her age—with black hair that is fashioned in a French twist. She wears a magenta silk robe with a cup of tea in her hand for her morning take-in. Mrs. Forbes came from an upper-middle-class family and married a rich man in her early adulthood. She decided to separate from Mr. Forbes due to marital issues; however, her decision to get a divorce is still questioned. She ends up getting a job at a working office influenced by an old friend of hers in her younger years.

"Cheyenne?", Mrs. Forbes says while walking through a short hall.

She looks at Cheyenne concerned as to why her pajamas were a bit dirty and her face looks exhausted in the morning.

"Where were you?", Mrs. Forbes says to Cheyenne.

"I- ", Cheyenne pauses for a second nervously. "I took a walk this morning and fell on a ditch."

"Sweetheart, you know I tell you not to go out there unsupervised", Mrs. Forbes says as puts her teacup down on a small table. "You look like a mess if you didn't know. Take a quick shower and get dressed for school. I don't want to be late to my first job ever."

"Yes, mom", Cheyenne says with her head down.

As soon as Cheyenne is finished with all that was commanded of her to do. She comes down to see her mother in a feminine office suit.

"What do you think?", Mrs. Forbes says with a smile on her face. She does a little spin for Cheyenne to get a good look at her outfit. "Your mom's no longer a house mother."

Cheyenne doesn't seem interested in the new look nor her mom's choices ever since they have moved here.

"When are we going to see dad?", Cheyenne says.

"We just got here, sweetheart", replied Mrs. Forbes. "You can visit him after next week."

Just before Cheyenne could say anything, Mrs. Forbes pulls an old wooden box with a keyhole on it.

"I almost forgot", said Mrs. Forbes. "This place is kind of creepy and I just remembered that I have this enchanted necklace that my grandmother gave me when I was a little girl. The necklace is supposed to keep off evil spirits that could be lurking in the area."

Mrs. Forbes pulled out a silver chain necklace with a star hanging on it. The star had a purple gem in the middle that shined when light reflected on it.

"A protection necklace?", said Cheyenne.

"I know it may sound silly or whatever, but I have a gut feeling that this place is probably haunted or something", Mrs. Forbes explains.

Cheyenne thinks about the story that Charlie the Black cat told her and Coraline. The story of his parents giving him a protection spell from other tainted spirits.

"Thanks", Cheyenne says to her mom giving her an unexpected hug.

Mrs. Forbes looks at Cheyenne aroused by the hug; she holds her in tightly to show the true affection and appreciation that Cheyenne has made her feel.

Coraline walks into the living room of her apartment building. Nothing but the sound of the wind fills the place up. Coraline looks around to see where her parents could be around this time in the morning. Her father is usually awake past seven in the morning.

"Dad? Mom?", Coraline hollers.

Suddenly a sound of a car from outside comes in right in front of the apartment building. As startled as she was, she turns around and opens the door. It's her Mom and Dad coming home with grocery bags.

"Coraline? You're supposed to get dressed for school, not a rain adventure", Mrs. Jones says as she unpacks the car of groceries.

"I don't feel good this morning, so I think it's best if I stay home. Don't want to make everyone sick at school", Coraline says as she rocks back in forth on the porch.

"Well if you're going to stay home, you can at least help put the groceries inside", Mrs. Jones says as she stands in front of Coraline who is blocking the door entrance

Coraline takes the bag of groceries and heads over to the kitchen. As Coraline unpacks the groceries she sees something on the kitchen window: a blue flare. It looks just like the ones she saw in the well's world. The question Coraline wonders is "how did it get there?". Coraline concludes that she is just tired and shrugs it off.

As everything seems to be such a blur and unorganized, things become complicated and messy. One thing from another, certain actions have led to some consequences as the well is unprotected and unsealed.

Wybie d to drives his electric bike to the well to take a look at it; He checks to make sure that it stays closed or any evidence of what Coraline and Cheyenne could have done it overnight. Surprisingly, he sees the lid open before he could get any closer.

"That's quite strange", he says to himself.

He walks closer but cautiously in case of anything coming from the well gets him. Suddenly, a hand appears holding on to the ground. Wybie shouts at of shock. Not too long, another hand appears both covered with a weird black slimy substance on them.

"W-whose there?", Wybie says as his voice shakes with fear.

A face comes out slowly, with dark eyes and a glowing bright lid in the middle as the pupils. It didn't speak, it was a creature of the otherworld who isn't of a good essence. Frighten as he was, Wybie yells.

"Ahh!", Wybie says as he grabs his electric bike and flees away to his shack, "Demons!".
