Thank you so much Kathy, Leann Nickerson and Bing-a-Ling27 for the wonderful feedback! I can't say thank you enough!
LOL Kathy, I could totally see John not thinking and just saying 27 and all the other men give him a look like 'Dude! Cover story'.
Okay poor little Deanie is in the hospital here but John definitely steps into his Daddy role completely here.
Thank you again and I hope people enjoy!
Chapter 7
"Doctor how is he?" John ask when the doctor finally joined them after they spent much too long pacing in the waiting room after they took Dean in to be examined.
"He should be fine, he's a tough little fella. He has a sprained wrist, three bruised ribs and slight concussion." The doctor explained to John and the others.
"Concussion and bruised ribs," Sam repeated.
"Can we take him home?" John asked as he placed a hand on Sam's shoulder.
The doctor shook his head slightly, "I would prefer to keep him overnight for observation."
John looked over at Sam and the other men before turning back towards the doctor, "can we see him?"
"Yes of course but just you and your other son. I don't want to over excite him."
"Okay, that's fine." John said as him Sam followed the doctor into the examine-room where Dean was resting.
"Dada," Dean cried when he saw his father and brother.
"Hey Buddy," John said as he went over and kissed him on his forehead.
"Deanie, is this your Daddy and brother?" Asked the nurse who was handing him a juice box, earning a bright smile.
"Dean how are you feeling?" Sam asked as stood next to his father.
"Owie Sammy," he told him as he took a sip of the juice that John was helping him holding. The little boy looked up at John, "Dada home?"
John smiled at Dean, "how does spending the night here sound Kiddo?"
Dean looked at his father, "Dada stay?"
John nodded his head, "of course I'm staying."
The nurse cleared her throat, "I'm sorry sir but…"
"Can I speak to you privately," John said cutting her off before turning to Sam. "Can you stay with him."
"Of course Dad."
John held his arm out towards the hallway and followed the nurse outside.
"Sir I'm sorry but we don't allow overnight visitors."
John hated doing it but there was no way he was leaving his son alone and completely defensive. "You don't understand. My wife was killed in a house fire that I barely was able to get Dean out of a months ago. He's not going to be able to stay without me here. I'm just getting him to talking again…I can't let him think I left him."
The young nurse nodded her head sadly, "oh I'm so sorry Mr. McGillicutty. Of course, let me speak to my supervisor. Maybe we can set up one of the reclining chairs when Dean is moved into his room for you."
"Thank you," he said as he gave her a small smile before turning and heading back into the examine- room. He wasn't surprised to see Sam sitting in the chair with Dean settled in his lap telling him a story.
"What happened?"
"I explained about the F-I-R-E and she's speaking to her supervisor. Either I stay or he comes back to Jim's with us."
"Good," Sam said knowing he wasn't about to leave his brother any more than their father was.
John looked at Dean and smiled as he held his good arm out towards him. "Come here Baby," John said as he carefully lifted the child into his arms mindful of is injuries.
Dean sighed contently as he rested his head on his father's shoulder. Sam watched as his father hummed softly to his brother.
"I'll go and let the others know how he's doing," Sam offer as he stood up so his father could sit down.
"Right…tell Bobby to fill Rufus in. Him and Caleb have all my notes. If Turner really got the drop on Yellow Eyes then they need to take him out now." John explained as he settled a napping Dean in his lap.
Sam's eyes widened in surprised at his father's comment. "Dad?"
John looked at Sam, "be happy Sam. Dean's coming first like you've been insisting since this thing happened."
Sam swallowed as he nodded his head. "Thank you Dad. He needs both of us."
John looked down at Dean and ran a finger along his boy's cheek. "I guess it took me seeing him lying unconscious today to realize how vulnerable he is like this."
"He is vulnerable like this," Sam agreed.
"You were right. It's my turn to watch and protect Dean. I owe him." John admitted as he gazed down at the child in his arms.
He looked up suddenly when he felt Sam's hand on his shoulder. "We owe him Dad. You're not the only Winchester that let him down."
"Well then maybe this is the second chance we all deserve."
Sam looked at his brother and smiled, "maybe it is."
