AN: Enjoy!
Over the next week or two, a routine was established. Wanda would wake early, to go visit Vision at Stark Tower. They would sit together and chat for a bit, hoping to gently coax Vision's memories forward, although Wanda would never push him.
Tony would potter around the lab while the pair chatted, not bothered by their presence so long as they stayed out of his way. At noon, Pepper would bring Tony food, and after a few days, began bringing Wanda food as well.
In the afternoons, Vision would read to Wanda. When they'd finished Pride And Prejudice, they moved on to other books. Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. A little of The Canterbury Tales, and some of Harry Potter. But he seemed rather drawn to romances. The Notebook, Wuthering Heights, Romeo & Juliet. They'd recently moved on to The Princess Bride, and were having quite a lot of fun with it.
Vision seemed happy enough, and Wanda was happy to spend the time with him. But as more time passed, Wanda began to wonder how happy Vision could really be, trapped indoors all the time. Never able to see the sun, or the sky.
"Vision.." she asked him one day, "Have you ever seen the sunset?"
"The.. the sunset.." His brow crinkled in slight confusion.
"It happens at the end of the day" Wanda explained. "It's what turns day into night. The sun sets, and then when it's dark, you can see the moon and the stars.."
Another memory flashed in Vision's mind. That same cold voice..
"One day soon, my Vision, the sun will set on that broken world below, and rise on a glorious new era.. you will be a part of that."
"What must I do, Master?"
"Well.."
He couldn't remember what he had been told, but Vision did remember that, not long afterwards was when he had run. He shuddered a little at the memory.
"Vizh?" Wanda squeezed his hand. "Are you alright?"
"I am.. I.. have you seen a sunset, Wanda?"
"I have. I watch them with Pietro sometimes.." A slight frown crossed her face, but quickly faded. "They're beautiful."
"I see.." 'Beautiful' was a word that Vision was coming across a lot in his books, in reference to flowers or clothes, or women in the stories. He was beginning to think that Wanda was beautiful, though he had not told her this.
"I just asked.." said Wanda, "Because I don't think it can be nice for you, being cooped up in here all the time. You deserve to get out and see things, instead of just reading about them.."
"I like reading."
"I know, but life should be more than that.."
"Mr. Stark says it may not be safe for me to go outside.."
"I know, but it isn't fair" Wanda sighed, then paused, thinking. "It'll be sunset soon. If there was some way we could get to the roof, we could watch it from there and no one would.. No, that's a stupid idea. There's no way up there.."
"Actually.." said Vision thoughtfully, "There might be. Do you trust me, Wanda?"
"I do," Wanda replied, without a second thought.
"Hang onto me.." Vision gently instructed.
"Alright.." Wanda was slightly confused, but did as she was asked.
Vision gently wrapped his arms around her, and then, after focusing for a moment, caused himself and Wanda to become intangible, before floating up through the ceiling.
Tony, seeing them in the corner of his eye, suddenly dropped his screwdriver.
"What the.."
Vision continued to rise up through the different floors of Stark Tower, until he reached the roof, landing and re-corporealising himself and Wanda.
Wanda stared at him, awestruck.
"Vizh.."
"What?"
"You can fly.."
"Oh.. yes, it seems I can" Vision blushed. "I didn't remember that I could until you mentioned getting onto the roof.."
"You are full of surprises" Wanda smiled.
"I am?" Vision blushed.
"It seems so.." Wanda looked around. "Oh, look Vizh. We're just in time for sunset.
"Oh?"
Sure enough, the city was becoming bathed in a soft orange glow as the sun slowly sank below the horizon, while most of the people in the streets below were making their way home for the day. Usually, Wanda would be heading home now too, but today, she was happy to stay a little longer.
"Isn't it beautiful?"
"Yes.." Vision paused. "You said you watch this with your brother?"
"Sometimes.." Wanda nodded.
"I take it he still isn't too happy with you visiting me.."
"He's not.. He's being a big grump about the whole thing. Saying you're dangerous.."
"You.. You don't have to keep coming.." said Vision. "I would hate to think that I was making your life more difficult.."
"Don't be silly, Vizh" Wanda reached to hold his hand. "My brother isn't in charge of me. I like coming to see you.. I might be a little late Tomorrow, though, I told him I'd go scavenging."
"Okay.." Vision's synthetic heart fluttered a little. He looked back to the sunset. "Wanda.."
"Yeah?"
"What if I am dangerous?"
"You're not."
"But what if I am?" Vision looked at her sadly. "How can you tell? What if your brother is right?"
"I promise you, Pietro is very rarely right about anything" Wanda chuckled.
"But.."
"I know you're not dangerous, Vision" Wanda turned to face him. "I don't know how exactly.. I just know. I look at you.. And I see something special.. Someone special.."
"You were supposed to be special, Vision.."
"No.."
"What?" Wanda frowned.
"Now I see that you are not. You are.."
"I'm not special.." Vision shook his head. "I'm not. I'm a mistake.."
"Vision.."
"I'm a mistake. I'm a failed experiment.." He started to panic. "Failed experiments deserve to be ripped apart, to make room for something better. I deserved to be.."
"No" Wanda cut him off. "No, you didn't. Who told you that?"
"I.." Vision frowned. "I can't remember.."
"Well, whoever it was, they were wrong, okay?" Wanda hugged him. "They were wrong.. No-one deserves what happened to you.."
"Oh.." Vision was startled for a moment, but returned her hug. "Okay.."
She was warm and soft and perfect in his arms, the last rays of sunlight catching in her hair. And then, she smiled up at him, and his synthetic heart nearly stopped.
A sunset was beautiful, he thought, but it was nothing, compared to the beauty of her.
