Wolfie: I do not own anything related to Night at the Museum. Well everyone we are getting close to the end of the first movie, so I am still not sure I want to try and squeeze a trilogy out of this or if I want it to just be one book. It's hard to say seeing as I really want to drag this out for as long as possible yet I am just publishing chapters for this book left and right. Anyways please read and review this and tell me what you think.

Chapter 7: Second night part 2

"Stampede!" Attila shouted as that is the only thing that sound could mean as his mean drop Larry as they flee to safety.

Now that he was free from the Hun's Larry rolls onto his stomach to see all of the animals from the hall of African mammals stampeding down a nearby stairwell. This confused him since he remembered locking up the African mammals in their exhibit room, so how could they have possibly gotten out of there? Quickly scrambling to his feet he ran into a nearby hallway in order to attempt to escape from the stampeding animals that were headed their way. As he ran he ended up running next to the statue of the Italian explore who he still can't remember the name of as said explorer was rapidly speaking Italian to him as they ran. Despite the urgency of the situation the fact that he didn't know the name of the explorer was really starting to get on his nerves right about now.

"Cortez, right?" Larry guessed whilst pointing at the explorer who through his head back in frustration as Larry broke off into the hallway that held the African exhibit.

"Somebody help me!" Easter Island Head shouted from behind the now popped bubble of gum that was all over his face as it made his voice muffled.

Running into the African exhibit much to Larry's shock it was open and void of all animals except for maybe any of the snakes that were in the exhibit. As he looked around in surprise at the empty exhibit he heard a familiar chittering behind him as he turned towards the source of it. With his mouth a-gap he looked at Dexter who had his keys as he pulled up the hook from his belt and saw that it was void of the keys that should be there. This made no sense to Larry, he has been locking up the necessary exhibits all night and hasn't seen Dexter once, so how did that sneaky monkey get his keys?! Much to his annoyance Dexter stuck his tongue out at him when he told him no as things then broke out int a frantic dash to chase after the little Capuchin. As Dexter ran he led Larry into the diorama room where Larry came to a screeching halt as he saw the the occupants of the Wild West and Roman diorama's were fighting each other. They were all over the floor and even on the benches as they attacked one another, all while the Mayan's were cheering them on still stuck in their exhibit.

Meanwhile Dexter ran to a window that had a locked gate over it as he hopped up onto the window sill ledge and put one of the keys on the key ring into the lock, unlocking the gate. Then he pulled up the latches and swung the gate open, chittering happily the hole time as he pushed the window open enough so really any small or human sized exhibit could climb out. Back in the diorama room Larry carefully made his way towards the bench, stepping on small gaps of open floor that opened up as he found Jedediah and Octavius fighting one another one one of the decorative bits ontop of the bench.

"Hey! Guys!" Larry called out whilst making sure he didn't step on any of the fighting miniatures on the floor. "Hey, guys. Hey! Guys." He repeated before getting frustrated that they were ignoring him as he snaps his fingers next to them.

"Ow!" Jedediah and Octavius both exclaimed as they stopped fighting in order to cover their ears, the snap was much louder to them though now Larry had their attention.

"Sorry. What's going on? What happened here? I thought we had a deal." Larry interrogated and motioned around to all the fight.

"We will never coexist with these buffoons." Octavius all but hissed out as he points at Jedediah.

"We're past words, Laredo. Now it's time to let Smith & Wesson do the talking." Jedediah declared as he held up his two guns that were now out of their holsters.

"Ha! Those guns don't even word." Octavius expressed his obvious amusement at the fact that Jedediah has a weapon that he can't use.

"Oh, they don't? Take a look at this." Jedediah urged and then when Octavius leaned in close he hit him in the helmet with his gun as they started fighting once again.

"Dexter!" Larry shouted when he heard the familiar chittering again as he saw the money down the hall walking off to the left.

Larry climbed over the bench past all of the fighting miniatures as he began to chase Dexter again so that he can get his keys back before the little Capuchin does anymore harm. Though as he was about to follow the troublesome monkey around a corner he stopped at the sound of frantic screams and grunting as his eyes widened at what he saw. There was a bonfire going in the Neanderthal exhibit but one of the Neanderthal's had also ended up setting the top of his hair of fire as he was hopping around. The Neanderthal was either excited or was trying to put the fire out, Larry didn't know which one it was but he really didn't have time to figure it out. Quickly going to the red case on the wall that held the fire hose he retrieved a fire extinguisher that was also there as he came back to the Neanderthals who were now obviously panicking. Pulling out the pin he began spraying the on fire Neanderthal as well as the bonfire, covering the exhibit as well as the Neanderthal next to the on fire one in a white foam. With the fire now out he puts the extinguisher down as the Neanderthals curiously inspect the white foam on their friend, one of them going as far as eating the foam. The one that had eaten the foam took a handful of it and threw it at Larry, the foam landing on his mouth and the collar of his shirt making him look rabid as he pursed his lips for a moment.

"Why?" Larry asked not knowing what was funny about it as the Neanderthals laughed, monkey chittering happening behind him once again as he turns around. "Ho, Dexter." He called out as he quickly ran over, cornering the Capuchin who was trying to escape in the exhibit he was standing in. "End of the line, cool breeze. End of the line." Larry announced to the now trapped Dexter, the foam still stuck on his face.

Meanwhile the one Neanderthal who had been on fire and still covered in foam approached the now open window and looked at what was going on outside. Right outside the museum three men who were clearly homeless were standing around a garbage can that held things that were on fire. The three men were standing around the fire to keep warm against the cold winter night that they were currently having despite there being no snow. At the sight of the fire the Neanderthal began grunting excitedly, trying to get his friends attention as he looked back down the hall for a moment to see if they were coming. When none of his fellow Neanderthals came he made an on the fly decision, trowing himself out of the window to the sidewalk that was below the window. Back with Larry the clearly irritated guard jumped into the exhibit that Dexter was in as said monkey was standing on a rock in the far right of the exhibit.

"I am not playing games here." Larry whispered harshly to the cornered monkey who was letting out squeaky chattering as the human approached him. "Just hand 'em over." He ordered as he held out his hand, still inching closer and closer to the still squeakily chattering and whimpering Capuchin. "Keys. That's it, Dexter. Nice and easy, Dex. That's it." Larry muttered as he went to pull the keys free from Dexter's paw now that he was close enough, only to get slapped in the face by the money.

A slapping fight soon broke out between Larry and Dexter where Larry would slap Dexter and then Dexter would slap or vise versa depending on who would slap who first. For the night guard the slap from the monkey would always end with a spray of foam as a grunt escapes his throat while the slaps from the guard would end with more chattering from the monkey. Now as their slap fight continues Teddy was about to round the corner from the main room whilst leading Texas by his reigns when he stopped causing his horse to stop as well. Now the wax figure of the 26th president was just standing there completely flabbergasted as he witnesses Larry and Dexter slapping each other senseless.

"Good Lord, Lawrence, why are you slapping a monkey?" Teddy asked drawing the attention of Larry and Dexter to him.

"Teddy, this guys been pushing me and pushing me and I'm sick of it." Larry spoke in a whining tone as he pointed at Dexter.

"Poppycock. This little creature is your primate brother. Without him, there's no us. Are you rabid?" Teddy questioned having walked over and noticed to foam on Larry's face, holding out a handkerchief he pulled out of his pocket. "Wipe that off. You have to deal with this creature with love and respect." He instructed as the night guard accepted the handkerchief silently as he slowly started to wipe off the extinguisher foam from his mouth. "May I have the keys, dear friend?" Teddy politely asked as he held out his hand as Dexter immediately handed over the keys to the president. "Thank you. Lawrence." He said as he held out the now retrieved keys to Larry who looked extremely annoyed that Dexter listened to the president and not him as he took them back.

"You know what, you seem to know what you're doing, Teddy, so uh I'm going to let you take over, all right?" Larry asked as he handed the keys back to a taken-aback Teddy whilst climbing out of the exhibit and walking away.

"Lawrence. No, no. My dear boy, you can't put up the white flag now." Teddy objected as he hurriedly followed after Larry who was finishing wiping the foam off his face. "The museum is on the verge of total anarchy." He explained as he was now walking one step behind the night guard.

"Look, I tried. I came back tonight didn't I?" Larry asked as he made sure most of his face was clean.

"Tried. That was one night. I didn't build the Panama Canal in one day." Teddy remarked as Larry gave him back his handkerchief.

"Yeah, well, that's great, Teddy, but I'm dealing with the most ridiculous job in history." Larry complained as he took off the belt that held his flashlight and keys, putting them behind the reception desk.

"Some men are born great, Lawrence." Teddy began to say the same thing he had said last night.

"Yeah, I know, Teddy. Others have greatness thrust upon them. You hit me with that chestnut last night. The thing is, not everyone is great. That's the problem. Some of us are just... ordinary." Larry said as he retrieved the few things he had behind the reception desk as he walked past Teddy.

"No, you're not, Lawrence. For the love of Gideon, stop wallowing in self-pity. Every great journey begins with a single footstep." teddy said as he watched Larry shove all of his stuff back into his duffel bag. "If you could teach the inhabitants to get along, they wouldn't need to be locked up night after night." he explained attempting to reason with the once again quitting guard.

"Oh, well, that means a lot coming from a guy who's spent the last 50 years spying on a girl he's never even talked to." Larry said with some sarcasm in his voice at the beginning.

"I was going to make contact." Teddy insisted with a small frown at having that mentioned. "Lawrence, please." He pleaded as he held out the keys once again.

"I'm done, all right?" Larry stated as he walked past Teddy who had a discouraged look on his face as Rexy tried to get his attention since the car pulling his bone was now tipped over. "No, Rexy! No." He bellowed to the T-Rex who slumps in sadness and whimpers at getting yelled at as the human walks past the now depressed looking dinosaur.

Walking towards the "Staff only" doors with his bag in hand Larry passed by the Italian explorer statue who said something to him in Italian as he pointed down a small hallway/sitting room to the right of him. Looking down the small hallway/sitting room he noticed that the bronze statue man was pointing at an open window that he was sure that he had locked when he first started his shift. He started to slowly and then quickly walk to the window and then when he reached it he looked outside and saw that one of the Neanderthals was outside the museum. The Neanderthal was trying to relight the garbage can fire that had gone out before dropping the rocks he was trying to get a spark from and started heading towards the front of the museum. As Larry watches this he noticed a orange tint poking up from behind the trees as he knew this meant that the sun was beginning to rise which was not a good thing. Dropping his bag he sprinted towards the revolving doors at the front of the museum, trying to get there in time, but as he made it outside the sun rose as it light peeked through the trees. The Neanderthal looked at the sun and then back to Larry he began to crumble to dust as the sun shined on him as Larry stood there shocked and trying to catch his breath.

Looking at the pile of dust that used to be a Neanderthal all Larry could do was watch as a street cleaner drove by, sweeping up the pile of dust left by the Neanderthal. Feeling guilty that he let this happen, even if the Neanderthal was just made of wax, he slowly walked back inside to see that the exhibits were once again frozen. Slowly walking over to Teddy he saw that there was noting out of place with the president, except the keys clasped between his thumb and pointer finger. Looking between the now frozen president and the keys he slowly took them back, now realizing for himself why this job was so important.

"All right." Larry muttered as he looked at Teddy once more before walking away to go get changed.

End of chapter

Wolfie: I know I said I'd never have a message down here again but I just felt like I needed to apologize for how short this is. I just wanted to get the second half of Larry's second night out of the way before I move on to the part that will really be the part that leads to the climax of the movie. Now once again please read and review.
