Part 7
Barry walked into his parents house to find Caitlin filling out the paperwork his dad had given her.
"Mommy, daddy took me to get french toast that is almost as good as yours." Said Crystal
Caitlin smiled and looked at Barry.
"You took her to Pete's diner." Said Caitlin
"Yeah. What is all this?" asked Barry
"Crystal sweetie why don't you go play in the other room."
"Ok mommy."
Crystal ran off.
"Your dad pulled strings to get me a job at the hospital."
"That's great. Here before I forget."
Barry placed a new cell phone down on the table.
"You didn't have to do this."
"Yeah I did. My number as well as my parents and Charlie's are already programmed in. I got your brother's number from Eddie. I would have put your mom's in but I don't have it."
"That's fine."
"I added a second line to my plan. The phone is in my name so that jerk can't trace it to you."
"Thanks. Barry after the way I left and kept Crystal from you I wouldn't have been surprised if you hated me."
"I could never hate you. I admit I was upset you didn't tell me about our daughter. But I never hated you."
"Thank you. I will have to find an apartment for Crystal and me. I mean of course I will let stay with you sometimes. But I don't want to stay with your parents forever. I mean I do need to make room for them to help someone else on this underground railroad they are part of."
"I actually was looking into getting a house last night. There is one a couple blocks away from here. I will bring it up to show you."
"Barry, I can't afford a house."
"I was thinking we could live there together. Before you say no. The basement is finished into almost a mini apartment. We would share the main kitchen. But I could live in the basement and you and Crystal could live in the main part of the house."
"I don't know Barry."
"Cait, just take a look at the house. Besides you know as well as I do that kids should have a backyard to play in. Maybe even a dog."
"You had to play the dog card."
"I know you always wanted one. But your mom wouldn't let you."
"I remember. Ok let me see the pictures of this house you want to buy."
Back opened up his laptop and pulled up the house. Caitlin had to admit it was the perfect house for them. But she wanted to see it in person too.
"It is nice but I want to see it in person." Said Caitlin
"Yeah I was expecting that. How does four tomorrow afternoon sound?"
"That sounds good. Barry, you do know we won't be more then roommates and friends right?"
"Yes. You need to get your life back together before you even think about anything more."
"You should know I never stopped and still do love you."
"I still love you. I missed you."
"Missed you."
"So are you going to enroll Crystal in school?"
"No we are together."
Barry smiled. He liked the idea that he was going to be a part of something so big as getting his daughter in school.
"Barry, I did record all of Crystal's milestones. Her first steps, first word. All that stuff. It's on a flash drive in the stuff I brought with me. I had planned to send it to you. But always came up with an excuse not to."
"Cait, it's ok. I would love to see it some time. But I would like a picture of Crystal for my desk at work."
"How about one of you with her? I mean I can take one on your phone and then you can get it printed."
"That would be great."
The two of them headed into the living room to find Nora reading "The Runaway Dinosaur" to Crystal. Barry smiled at Caitlin.
"That was my favorite book as a little kid." Said Barry
"Can't say the same. My mom and I have never been as close as you and your mom. Mom always seemed to like Charlie more then me. I know that she does love me. We are just not close."
"You and Crystal are close."
"Yeah we are. But I was the only one she has had until now."
"Who watched her while you were at work?"
"My friend Linda's mom. She has a day care she runs out of her house. She gave me a discount and would keep Crystal late if need be."
"I am glad you had people who helped you."
"I made a mistake by leaving you. But my biggest mistake was trusting Richard was a good person only because he is a cop. Because Eddie and Detective West are good people I believed he was a good person."
"Cait, from a young age we are taught that cops are there to help us."
"But Crystal never liked him."
"Cait, you don't have to worry about him ever again. Joe wants you to come down to the station. It turns out that my boss Captain Singh has a brother who is who is a police Captain in Hub City. Cait, Joe thinks that if the Hub City Singh knew what that jerk was doing to you. He would have put an end to it. I get the feeling that there could be a lot of cops in trouble for not reporting the abuse."
Caitlin just nodded. She knew that Richard's captain was named Singh. She just hadn't realized that he was related to the captain Singh in Central City.
"Let me ask your mom to watch Crystal and we can go now."
"Sure."
Five minutes later Barry was driving Caitlin to the police station. When they walked in a few minutes later Eddie saw them and gave Caitlin a warm smile.
"Hey Caitlin." Said Eddie
"Hi Eddie. Barry said that Detective West wanted to talk to me." Said Caitlin
"Come on I'll take you over to his desk. Barry, Patty needs to see one of your files about the Nelson murder. She thinks her case is connected." Said Eddie
"I'll get it for her. You going to be ok Cait?" asked Barry
"I will be fine. Eddie knows what my brother will do to him if anything happens to me."
"Ok see you in a little bit."
Barry headed up to the crime lab while Caitlin followed Eddie over to Joe West. As they reached the desk that was when she saw the one person she hadn't wanted to see again. Iris West. The girl that made her life hell in school and ruined her relationship with Barry.
