Will was already ready outside the ER entrance, he felt observed.
Connor Rhodes, Meggy, and even Ethan and Charles hadn't taken their eyes off him since they realized after their lunch break that something was wrong. He had warned Meggy that he was leaving and slowly slipped out unnoticed.
As soon as Jay arrived, the doctor got into the car and they embarked on their journey until they reached the cemetery gate. It was not a very long journey, but a very quiet one. Everyone was locked up in his thoughts and with his suffering, without wanting to speak.
Arriving at the cemetery, after having parked and getting out of the car, they headed towards the family chapel, until they arrived in front of a small tomb with a small tombstone with Alice Halstead written on it.
The brothers greeted their little sister, even though they knew she wasn't really buried there, it was a way to feel her close and take out their pain.
The two were pressed together, placed some flowers in the vase near the tombstone, wept and let off steam.
A great anger had taken hold of Jay.
- But how can such a thing happen? We don't even have any remains to visit when we feel like it. - he said aloud.
- Unfortunately, it happens - Will said.
- But why us - he asked
- I don't know - replied the doctor
- I had to be there, if I had been there I would have protected her. It would not have gone like this.- Jay yelled through tears.
Will didn't know what to answer. Yes he just remained silent with hot tears running down his eyes as he hugged his brother who stood there with his fists clenched vigorously in anger.
They stayed there until it was time to return to their respective jobs. Then they got back in the car and left. This time, Will was driving. His little brother was too shaken to do that.
