The rest of their shift was uneventful. Shelby and Kelly didn't interact much with each other for the rest of the shift. Shelby had just closed her locker and headed out to her car.

She waved bye to Chief Boden as she made her way down the driveway to her car. She looked around but didn't see Adam or anyone else from intelligence.

Shelby got this weird feeling. Adam said he was off today so he could stay with her. Shelby was getting ready to pull out her phone when she heard a voice.

"Shelby!"

Shelby turned around to see Kelly running towards her. "What is it Severide?"

"Adam just called me. He got called in. He asked if Casey or me could stay with you today. Casey has plans with Dawson so I said I would."

"oh okay. Wonder why he didn't call me."

"I asked him the same thing and he said because you wouldn't ask Casey or me. He knows you would just go home by yourself." This made Shelby laugh. Adam was really starting to know her. "So my place or yours?"

"Well I didn't bring a change of clothes so i'd like to go home for a bit."

"Alright. I'll follow you."

Shelby nodded and then climbed in her car and started driving towards her apartment.

A short while later they were pulling into the underground garage and parking their cars. They both grabbed their bags and rode the elevator up to Shelby's apartment.

Shelby unlocked the door and they entered. Kelly dropped his bag off at the door.

"I'm going to go change. Make yourself comfortable." Shelby left Kelly in the living room while she went and changed into clothes she could lay around in.

Kelly started looking around her apartment and looking at all the photos. There were plenty of pictures of her with her parents. One of her with the Charger she drove in high school.

Shelby came out of her room and joined Kelly looking at all her photos. "I loved that car."

"I know you did. It was pretty sweet. What happened to it?"

"I wrapped it around a pole the night of my high school graduation."

"You what?" Kelly was shocked to hear about this.

"Yeah not one of my better moments. I was depressed and drinking. A lot. I was on my way home from a party and I passed out at the wheel."

Kelly was shocked. Especially after what they had witnessed what happened to Ashley. "What happened to your parents? How are they doing?"

"My dad died little over a year ago from lung cancer. Mom died of a heart attack 6 months after dad passed."

"Shelby I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bring up a sore subject."

"Kelly it's fine. They are both in a better place and happy." Shelby walked over to her kitchen. "You want a beer?"

"It's 8am babe." That last word just slipped out of Kelly's mouth. "I'm sorry."

"It's fine Kelly. And so what we are probably going to go to sleep here soon anyways."

"Fair enough."

Shelby pulled out two beers and popped the tops off. She then handed one to Kelly.

"Cheers." They clanked their bottles together and then took a drink. "Want to go lay down?"

"Sure."

Shelby led Kelly to her bedroom. She went to the side of the bed she normally slept on. She sat down her beer. Then she removed her watch and plugged her phone in.

"I can sleep on the couch if this is to weird for you."

"Kelly we've shared a bed before. It's fine." Shelby pulled the covers back and slipped under the sheets.

Kelly went around to the other side of the bed. Placing his beer on the table. He took off his shoes, pants and shirt. He climb into bed next to Shelby.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure Kelly what is it?"

"What was that earlier?"

Shelby staring up at ceiling. "I don't know Kelly. It was bound to happen at some point."

"But did you want it to happen?"

Shelby rolled over to her side so she could face Kelly. "If your asking me if I regret it. The answer is no. I wouldn't of had sex with you if I was going to regret it."

Kelly rolled onto his side so he was able to face her. "Okay just checking." They were both smiling at one another. Feeling like goofy teenager again.

"Let's get some sleep." Kelly nodded. Shelby closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Kelly stayed awake for a bit watching her sleep.

She looked so peaceful and happy. Kelly was having an inner battle with himself on what he should do. Them sleeping together at work was clouding his judgment. He knew she had Adam but he still couldn't help himself. Kelly soon found his eyes were getting heavy. He let them close and drifted off to sleep.

Adam hadn't heard from Shelby all day. So after shift he headed over to her apartment. He let himself in since she gave him a key for emergencies.

"Shelby?" Adam called out for her as he entered her apartment. He noticed Kelly's bag was still there. So at least he knew she wasn't alone.

Shelby was asleep when Adam came in but him calling her name woke her up. She picked up her phone and realized it was 5pm. She groaned and tried to get up but something was holding her down.

That's when she realized Kelly had his arms wrapped around her. It made her smile. She quietly moved Kelly's arm off of her so she could get up.

Shelby walked out of her room and into the living room. "Hey Adam."

"Hey there you are. I was a little worried when you didn't respond." Adam walked over and placed a kiss to her lips.

"Im sorry. We fell asleep after shift."

"Oh is Severide still here?" Adam was hoping Kelly would of been on the couch or anywhere but her bed.

"Yeah he's still asleep." Adam shifted uncomfortably. "What is it Adam?"

"I just don't like that he's in your bed."

Shelby was taken aback by this. Her and Adam weren't exclusive. "What's the problem? We are not official. We both decided that's what we wanted."

Something changed in Adams face."No that's what you wanted. I just went along with it."

"Adam..."

He cut her off before she could finish. "No I get it now. It's always been Kelly. You just wanted to string me along till you could get back with Kelly." Adam turned around and headed for the front door.

Shelby was angry. That was not her intentions at all. "Adam stop. You have this all wrong."

Adam stopped walking and turned back around to face her. "Do I Shelby?"

"I'm sorry. I was terrified of getting into a new relationship. I always screw them up."

Adam rolled his eyes. "You didn't even give us a chance though. How do you know you would of screwed us up?"

"Because I always do." Shelby was hurt. She hadn't imagine this how all of this would go.

"Well I'm not going to sit here and wait for you to decide what you want." Adam walked towards the door. His hand hovered over the doorknob "I'll call Erin or Jay to come relieve Kelly."

Adam opened the door and pulled it close behind him. Shelby felt her heart shatter. She screwed up another thing that could of been great for her .

Kelly had woken up when Adam and her were talking. He was standing just inside the doorway of her bedroom. Once he heard Adam leave he stepped into the living room. He could hear Shelby starting to cry softly

"Shelby?"

"Not right now Kelly. Please." Shelby sat down on her couch and pulled her knees up to her chest. She laid her head on her knees and just cried.

Kelly hesitated but then he went over and sat on the couch next to her. "His lost."

Shelby lifted her head and wiped her tears away. "How much of that did you hear?"

"Enough."

"I really was starting to like him Kel." It hasn't occurred to Shelby how awkward this was for Kelly. Her admitting that she liked someone other than him.

Kelly wanted to try and be her friend no matter how much it hurt him. He knew she needed someone. "Just let him cool off."

Kelly opened up his arms to allow her to curl up into him. Shelby crawled into Kelly's arms and let him hold her.

Shelby was becoming more and more confused about what she wanted. Her heart was so confused.
