Chapter 5: Findings
Morning arrived at the mansion rather quickly as Kai woke up yawning this time. He didn't know what time Rick wanted to start, so he just went downstairs to wait but before checking his eyes and taking a drink. Contact lenses had started to irritate his eyes. Unfortunately for him they were still red but not as much as before. Kai wondered if he could leave the contacts out.
'Better to keep them,' Rick appeared behind him. They were the only ones awake at the moment for obvious reasons.
'I know,' Kai put them back and blinked few times to get the annoying feeling out. Once he was done, they put on their jackets and left. Anyone who would see Rick very first time while wearing black jacket with hood, would be scared off him.
'I saw a small store near the alleyway where the ghoul appeared. Let's start there,' Rick simply said and Kai just nodded followed slightly behind Rick. The walk to the store was calm and quiet in the woods but in the town, it got more noises.
Soon enough they arrived at the valley and store near it. Rick went inside and started to look through the shelves. Rick instructed Kai to do the same since this was to be done in secret and since Rick was able to slow down time and he might find the way to… do something. Kai wasn't sure about what he was planning. Kai took his hood off since he was getting too hot.
After finally getting Tyson out of the food table they had left the hotel and find a place to train. They decided to go to the same park as before where they saw Kai last time.
'Hey! Look,' Max pointed towards the store.
'What… It's Kai with… someone?' Tyson pondered. He saw a different person this time and not Mike. He looked scary, like a lot.
'Let's go train Tyson. We need to train, don't you think so?' Kenny brought Tyson's attention back from the store.
'Right. I need to be ready to beat Kai in the match,' Tyson announced.
'If he has bitbeast, we don't know his full strength. You need to stay on the ground,' Kenny continued as they headed towards the park.
As Kai looked through the book section of the he noticed Tyson and others go to the park. He was glad that they didn't come here for any reason. His attention sharpened when he almost dropped the book but it stopped midair. Rick had started using his ability.
'Come one,' Rick ordered. Kai put the book back on the shelf and quickly followed Rick behind the counter.
'How long does your ability work? 5 minutes?' Kai asked as Rick started to check the camera records.
'Five to ten minutes pretty much but we need to do this quickly. You don't want people to see how that human is just staying still, do you?' Rick questioned.
'That human', Kai cringed at the word and sighed. He checked other records at the same time as Rick. He didn't know how much time had passed but he hadn't find anything for a while when Rick called out.
'Here is something,' Rick stated. Kai came behind him and saw a person with hood covering person's face killing a human. Next thing what happened was person changing killed human into ghoul. Rick got USB-stick out and started to copy the file into it.
'Check everything in one minute,' Rick wanted to get everything. As file was copying he checked outside to see if people were outside. No one.
After not finding anything from the rest of the cameras, Rick pulled the stick out and deleted the video from the camera permanently. Police wouldn't be able to recover it, easily at least. Kai didn't say anything since he knew what would happen if anyone would see that.
'Let's go as we were before,' Rick instructed. Kai was getting annoyed by the orders but he was not about to piss against Rick. After Rick had deleted the parts where they left the room, they returned back how they were. It was the one last detail to take care of at the moment.
Kai took the same book than before when Rick stopped using his ability. Clerk didn't notice anything and just continued his work.
Tyson and others had practiced for a while, but concentration wasn't there, not for Tyson anyway,
'Something bothering you, Tyson? You are making old mistakes,' Kenny asked.
'Well…' Tyson picked Dragoon up, 'If that dude who was with Kai is same as the other guy… Well, I'm worried and already annoyed.'
'You want to check up on Kai, don't you?' Max chuckled.
'Definitely, let's go,' Tyson didn't wait for the answer and immediately headed towards the store from before. In no time they arrived and both of them were still checking the shelves.
'Kai!' Tyson called out from the door and Kai looked like he had gotten a scare. The other guy very slightly gazed at them and continued reading the magazine.
'What's up?' Tyson asked.
'You came to ask me that?' Kai pondered.
'Something like that. We have been practicing and I was wondering if you liked to join if you have time,' Tyson asked with a smile. Kai didn't answer but was clearly thinking about the answer. The other guy put the magazine back on the shelf and headed towards the door without a word. It surprised Kai that he called out to him without thinking.
'You…' Kai stopped himself, but Rick stopped at the door.
'It's your choice. Do what you're supposed to do or stay to play or practice as you like to call it,' he said with his usual cold tone.
'We practice for serious thing. I don't if it's possible yet, but we asked Dickenson to held a small beyblade tournament,' Tyson stated.
'Quiet dude. Nothing decided yet,' Kenny interrupted.
'That's why I said we don't know if it will happen. I just wanted to let you know so if you want, you can join it,' Tyson explained himself.
'I'll go head,' Kai heard Rick say before he left the store.
'Alright, I'll think about it,' Kai quickly followed Rick out.
'Aah, that other guy is annoying as well,' Tyson growled.
'Come one Tyson. They are his friends obviously since he's with them. Let's go,' Kenny stated. Tyson and Max followed Kenny out and decided to continue with their training.
Back at the mansion Christian along with Rick and Kai watched the footage again.
'Looks like we have a rogue vampire on the loose,' Christian sighed deeply and took a sip from his drink.
'Rogue vampire?' Kai wondered.
'They are vampires who are not in a group of sorts, like us. They are bad threat because they usually want to cause harm to humans and other vampires alike. Ghoul making ability is annoying one,' Christian explained tiredly. There was a knock on the door and Mike stepped in with Sara.
'You two have a job to do,' Christian said without hesitation.
'What's the job Sir?' Sara asked.
'Go to police station and see if there's any clues on recently missing humans. Someone might be our ghoul. I'll give rest of the orders after that's done. Go now,' Christian said. Everyone bowed slightly and Kai left it with a nod, but Christian called out to him. They were left alone. Before Kai could ask the reason Christian spilled the beans.
'I know you might not want to hear this but I think you should stay away from Bladebreakers,' Christian said.
'Rick told you?' Kai was indeed annoyed and was tired of hearing that.
'Yes. They are clearly trying to befriend you and you taking part of tournament is very big risk and you know the reason but…' Christian suddenly stopped.
'But what?' Kai asked.
'I've been checking different futures and every case you'll be taking part of the tournament. I think… it's better for you take part on it with my permission than go rogue. I can only say that much,' Christian looked stiff on the chair.
'Seriously?' Kai was confused. Christian seemed concerned and annoyed at the same time. He knew Kai was stubborn as always.
'It would be better for you not to but since you're still holding on your human side… Basically you want to be with them and I specially don't want that. For their and your safety,' Christian said firmly and had dark look on his eyes. Kai recalled his time on the police station where he saw this look directed at him and it still gave shivers in his spine.
'You're right about that. I didn't want this life,' Kai stated and walked away. He expected Christian to explode but it didn't happen. Outside the door Sara was standing near the door.
'You do know he saved your life, don't you?' Sara asked. Her tone sounded sad and disappointed.
'I know that but I don't need him to control it as well!' Kai cursed, 'Sorry. I'm off.' Mike behind Sara let out small smirk thinking, 'What an idiot.'
Tyson and others had returned to the hotel and were eating at the restaurant with Dickenson and grandfather. They had been eating a while when Bruce arrived with a few pictures.
'You found the picture of your friend, dad?' Tyson asked. He was curious since his father had never spoken about his friends before.
'Yeah and I think you should see this,' Bruce put the picture on the table. Tyson saw man with black clothes and firm expression along with a beautiful woman.
'Was he married?' Dickenson asked.
'Yes and she was unfortunately dead also. Her death is even more mysterious than Susumu's,' Bruce explained.
'So what we needed to see?' Tyson asked.
'This,' Bruce showed another picture where it showed a child around elementary school age.
'Wait, isn't that… Kai?' Tyson was shocked.
'Do you know his last name?' Bruce asked.
'No, we don't?' Tyson shook his head.
'You might need to ask him about it next time but according to this picture and text behind it, Kai is their child, Kai Hiwatari,' Bruce turned the picture over.
'Kai did say he has a big brother at least,' Kenny said.
'They must have lived together ever since their parents died but it's weird that I didn't find any other picture with the whole family then,' Bruce was puzzled.
'Maybe Kai has,' Tyson stated and stuffed his mouth full of food.
'You could restrain yourself,' grandfather laughed.
After they were done eating they were heading towards their hotel room. Now they were walking in the main lobby and front entrance of the hotel.
'That was delicious,' Tyson stretched.
'How can you eat so much,' Max giggled.
'Way too much I would say,' Dizzy said.
'Come on Dizzy. That might be true but why would you say it,' Kenny asked.
'Preparing for trouble on the left,' Dizzy complained. They looked their left and saw Mike walking past the hotel with a girl. Without a word Tyson headed outside.
'Where are you going?' Kenny shouted but got ignored. Max shrugged his shoulders with a smile and followed Tyson.
'I have a feeling this is going to be trouble,' Kenny complained by himself.
Tyson tried to get close enough to hear them but it was going to be hard since they were walking quite fast. In the end they stopped for a while and Tyson began to listening in.
'Why are we both needed to do this? I could easily do this on my own,' Sara asked.
'Maybe your big bro needs me to watch over you,' Mike laughed.
'Way too protective I say,' Sara sighed and stopped.
'I can sense that your pissed. Is it because of Kai?' Mike asked.
'You hit right in the nail. He would be dead if not for Sir,' Sara admitted angrily. Kai's attitude was seriously getting on her nerves.
'What can I say? You three are siblings, Kai being the youngest and Sir the oldest. But Kai does indeed is causing trouble for him and way too much. Must be fun to be head of the family at such an old age, literally,' Mike laughed.
'Oh shut up. You sound such a jerk. Let's go,' Sara said smiling. Mike was such a tease.
Tyson waited them to leave before standing up. It looked like Kai had older sister as well and they were talking bad behind his back. But why did they call Kai's older brother 'Sir'? Might be because he was in charge but still, 'Sir'. Just then Max arrived but Tyson didn't tell him anything yet.
They headed first to hotel and their own room along with Kenny and adults. There, he told what he heard.
'It seems that Kai's life was in danger and his brother saved him,' Bruce concluded.
'And Kai doesn't seem to appreciate it,' grandfather said. Tyson saw his father look the pictures again. The lack of other two siblings was bothering him.
'Well, there isn't much what we can do but here,' Bruce gave Tyson the pictures.
'What do I do with these?' Tyson pondered.
'Give them to Kai of course when you see him if he takes part in the small tournament you asked for,' Bruce revealed.
'Seriously?!' Tyson jumped up happy. Dickenson nodded and got very happy responses from Tyson and others. All Starz were also taking part in as a friendly match.
'It's going to be actually in couple of days. Hope you're going to be ready,' Dickenson informed.
'Definitely!' Tyson celebrated. It was going to be fun.
At the police station Sara had turned invisible and look over police officers' shoulders. It was slow but she couldn't touch anything. Mike was waiting outside as planned and Sara do the work. She did see about resent murder case of some woman and was trying to see what's on there when she heard the officer from last time, Walter.
'Still nothing?' Walter said.
'No, sorry,' Faith said, 'Lisa Harrison's husband also has disappeared and are trying to find his latest path. He was seen walking behind a store and Dylan checked the cameras but there is missing files.'
'Missing files?' Walter questioned what he heard.
'Yeah. It seems they have been deleted and some are simply no existent. No recoding in the first place in other words,' Faith explained.
'What was the husband's name again, Tom Harrison?' Walter turned towards his room.
'Yes. We will see if there is any other camera's which might give us more clues,' Faith ensured.
'Alright. Continue on,' Walter said. With that even Sara left the station and stayed hidden until she arrived to Mike at the nearby forest where he was leaning against the tree.
'Looks like more trouble,' Mike stated.
'You don't know the half of it. Let's go. We are going to have a long night. And so it was going to be. Back at the mansion Sara informed Christian of their findings and it gave Christian another headache and this time a normal headache.
'Not those cops again. They were very persistent last time, but at least we know who the ghoul was,' Christian said.
'You think it's that's Harrison guy? Then it's going to be trouble since police are on his trails,' Mike showed his concern.
'You couldn't be more right. We don't have time to clear the cameras around the area or anything else on the matter,' Christian rubbed his eyes and forehead.
'We have to find who killed that human and has the ghoul ability next,' Christian stroked his chin in deep thought.
'What's the plan, Sir,' Sara asked.
'It's a risk but follow the cops. In short, we need to also follow Harrison's steps but we need to look people around him and find the rogue vampire,' Christian stated.
'Make police do the work for us, nice,' Mike smiled. He found humour in this and Christian let it past.
'Something like that but only very short time. We don't need them knocking on our door again,' Christian simply added.
Kai was laying on the bed in his room when he heard that Sara and Mike had returned. He didn't bother going down since he had his own thoughts on his mind.
'Tournament? I hate to admit it but Christian is right about it. It's not safe for me to take part in it but he still allows it. I wonder what he saw in his visions,' Kai wondered. He sat up and looked through the window at the moon. It would be nice to battle against them again but there is a risk. He doesn't want to hurt anyone but in the end his beyblading spirit hadn't left.
He stood up and headed towards Christian's office. He saw Mike and Sara come out of it.
'Is he… free?' Kai asked.
'Yes but be careful. He's on the edge,' Sara said. Kai simply nodded and carefully knocked on the door. He didn't get an answer at first but after few minutes he slowly opened the door. Christian nodded and Kai stepped in.
'Something on your mind?' Christian asked.
'Just that… I'm going to take part in it but if I feel hunger or something, I leave from there,' Kai replied.
'Good to know that you pondered about it but that's not the only thing I worry. You have been attacked once already and I think it's the same person who killed that human and his wife,' Christian stated.
'I heard about that and… Well, I'll be careful but can't you tell me what's going to happen there beforehand. You had visions,' Kai asked.
'I saw different visions and I cannot change them by my own or tell anyone about them,' Christian stood up from the chair, 'Just do what you said to me. Even the smallest and strange thing you feel in any way, come back.' Christian was quiet for a while but placed his hand on Kai's shoulder.
'I don't want to control you but… just try to understand where you belong now,' Christian slightly tightened his grip before letting go. Kai watched Christian leave the room before touching his own shoulder. He was glad that Christian doesn't want to control his life as he thought but it didn't help him. He was still… he wanted to be still able to enjoy his old life. He didn't miss his grandfather but beyblading matches he did. Having different opponents and challenges had been fun.
Maybe with this tournament he could try Tyson's new strength after winning the champion ship.
Here go. I'm going to try start the next one :D
