PROMPT N°7: SECRETS/ETOILE-LEAD-SAMA

GLACIATOR 2.0

Marinette looked at her watch again and sighed with sadness. Why did the two blonds who were so important in her life never come when they'd to share an ice cream of André with her?

Chat Noir came to talk to her about a week ago and told her that he'd fallen in love with her. Her, Marinette. She was completely amazed and asked him for a time to think before she could answer him. Obviously, he'd accepted with a smile and a joke but she'd seen the glow of sadness in his gaze and it had shook her heart.

Marinette had spent the next week thinking, taking stock of her feelings and finally realized that she too loved Chat Noir. Adrien would still have a special place in her heart, but the feline had also chosen to take a place in it.

In fact, she'd gradually fallen in love with the big-hearted feline. During the evenings they'd spent together, as Marinette and Chat Noir, she'd discovered that her partner was so much more than what he showed to Ladybug. She'd first been sensitive to his devotion to her, to his tenderness and kindness, and then she'd discovered that his humor could be funny, that he could be shy, sad and angry, and she understood that, in the end, he was really only himself with her.

The young woman had also finally admitted that this was also true for her. As Marinette, she didn't have the weight of Chat Noir's feelings to wear, the burden of her suit to assume, she didn't have to be strong and, strangely, she didn't feel in danger of revealing who she was: she could just be herself. No more, no less than herself.

That was what led her to wait for the feline that evening to share an ice cream with him: she wanted to tell him that she also had feelings for him. For this she'd left him a coded message in a small hideout only known from them, in the wall behind the bakery: it was through this idea that they could talk to each other even outside the usual hours.

She went to check before leaving and found a simple little note in response: "I would be there". But, after an hour she waited, the feline had still not arrived. Marinette's heart was filled with sadness and she finally admitted what seemed to be the truth: he wouldn't come. Her throat tightened and her eyes began to burn.

'Stupid cat,' she mumbled, completely shot and a little angry.

She was angry with herself for not understanding earlier that she loved him and for making him suffer again, but also angry with him for not coming. She knew that he was generous and that his heart was good, but she also knew that Ladybug had rejected him countless times. From how much rejection did the heart not bear it anymore? Was it already too late?

Marinette was out of her mind when an ice suddenly found itself ahead under her eyes. She lifted her head up and met André's smiling gaze.

"Mint like his eyes and chocolate like his love heart," he announced joyfully. "Eat this, my dear, and your love will materialize!"

He nodded at her, but Marinette didn't have the heart to accept the ice.

"I'm sorry, André, but he won't come. He will not come again. I think I've hurt him too often." She returned the ice to André and walked away towards the bakery, with her shoulders arched and her heart heavy.

Seconds later, a chilling scream echoed in the night. She turned, a bad feeling twisting her guts, and found herself almost face to face with Glaciator.

Chat Noir ran, almost out of breath on the rooftops of Paris. He wasn't careful, but didn't care at all. He was DEFINITELY late for his date with Marinette! His father had come to see him when he was about to leave and he'd held him for an hour. AN HOUR! All this to tell him about his future. Once again, his father decided for him: He should take the lead of Agreste Compagnie when he will be an adult, which would allow his father more time to let his genius be expressed. Once again, he couldn't say anything...

The feline landed in the park where Marinette had given him an appointment but he saw no trace of the girl. He didn't dare call her so as not to draw attention to him, so he looked for her. He was desperate to find her when he heard a scream that froze his blood. A scream from a voice he knew all too well. His brain died and instinct took over: he ran in the direction of the noise, fear giving him wings.

When he finally arrived, he saw Marinette trapped in a cul de sac and Glaciator blocking her road, he raised his arm in the direction of the young woman, ready to shoot her.

"You don't like my ice cream, Marinette, so you're going to become one!" he threatened her.

Chat Noir acted quickly. He slipped between Glaciator's legs and found himself immediately with Marinette. He then swept her legs to hold her in bridal style and pulled out his baton to propel them to a roof. He barely had time to reduce the size of it to be able to dodge the attack of ice balls raining on them.

"I almost ended up in cat-colate ice cream," he tried to joke when he finally saw Marinette's sad expression. He immediately lost his smile.

"I'm really sorry Marinette, I...did" he started before she interrupted him.

"This is not the time, Chat Noir" she said in a voice a little drier and more sad than usual.

The feline's heart tightened. He was terribly angry. It was all his fault. Only his fault. He should never have told her. Never... nevertheless, he couldn't leave things like this...

"Marinette..".he tried to explain himself again, but she interrupted him once more.

"Go fight Glaciator, Chat Noir!" she told him in a rather dry tone.

The feline's ears flattened on his head and his heart hurt him even more.

"But I can't leave you alone here and in danger..." he protested. "And then, Ladybug hasn't even arrived yet and I need her to defeat Glaciator."

He paused and added in a slightly bitter tone.

"After all, we must pretend to be a couple in order to defeat him…And I don't want to put you in danger. You can't stay here."

Strangely, it seemed to soften Marinette somewhat, who put a hand on his shoulder.

"Take me to my place: I'd be safe there until you beat Glaciator. It will also give Ladybug time to arrive…"

The feline reluctantly approved. "Very well, but after the fight, I come back to you: I owe you an explanation."

He didn't give Marinette time to reply that he was again sweeping her legs so that he could carry her tightly against his heart and heading to the Dupain-Cheng bakery. She was right about one thing: everything in its time and it was first necessary to take care of Glaciator.

The fight had gone fairly quickly. Marinette had joined Chat Noir as Ladybug pretty fast and they had put in place a rather military-like strategy as in their first fight. The difference this time was that it was HER who was distant and cold towards her partner. She knew she shouldn't have done that. She knew it was dangerous and the feline was smart, but it was stronger than her. She was hurt and she couldn't separate that in her mind. She couldn't be the Ladybug that Chat Noir knew so well...

She greeted the flight of her miraculous ladybugs with relief and quickly went away from the place of battle, barely striking the fist that was handed to her by Chat Noir. She just wanted burying herself under her duvet and staying there forever.

Marinette had hardly gone down to her room and heard footsteps on her balcony. Familiar steps. A few seconds later, she heard him knock on her hatch.

"Marinette, it's me. Can you please go up to your balcony?"

The girl thought for a moment to do the one who hadn't heard him, and this thought must also have crossed the mind of the feline because he added: "I will stay here until you get out."

The first thought that touched her mind was to test him, but soon she found her reason again: if they were in this situation, it was also her fault. She sighed then and went up to her balcony.

Chat Noir was waiting for her with a red rose in hand and a sheepish look that made Marinette's heart beat a little harder. He then handed her the flower with a shy little smile and Marinette knew at that moment that she wasn't mad anymore. How could she have continued to be mad at him when she saw him so unhappy?

"I am sorry, Marinette," he murmured, his voice borrows with contained emotion. "I was detained when I was going to leave to join you. It was…"

Chat Noir hesitated a few before proceeding, certainly time to find the right words. "I can't say no to this person."

Marinette felt how much it cost him and she put her hand delicately on his arm.

"I understand, Chaton," she reassured him with a soft voice before she sighed. "Unfortunately, you are not the first one to stand me up."

The feline raised its ears. Marinette then crossed his gaze and saw it close, before a lightning of understanding passed through it.

"That was that time, wasn't it?" he asked, although he seemed to already know her answer. "During the previous akumatization of André le glacier?"

Marinette nodded. She leaned on the guardrail of her balcony and looked at Paris without seeing it, lost in thought.

"Who was it?" he asked, leaning against her.

Marinette remained silent for a long time, weighing the pros and cons of such a revelation, then she ended up mentally, shrugging her shoulders and taking the plunge. What's the point of keeping the secret?

"Adrien Agreste"

"WHAT?!" immediately shouted out his interlocutor, drawing the attention of the girl to him.

Chat Noir had bleached and seemed in shock. "But... but you told me that you had a broken heart that night."

Marinette simply nodded and the feline suddenly looked even worse.

"Are you... were you... are you in love with Adrien Agreste?" he asked her in an off voice.

Once again, the girl simply nodded but frowned as she saw Chat Noir behavior getting even worse. Why did it make him so bad to learn that she loved Adrien? At the time it didn't...

"I didn't know, I always thought that...," murmured the feline more for himself than for her, but his words suddenly found their full meaning in Marinette's mind.

That was the last piece of the puzzle. This was the last clue to the solution. It was like a Lucky Charm. Chat Noir was Adrien Agreste.

Now that this hypothesis was touching Marinette's mind, everything suddenly became meaningful. He always disappeared during akuma attacks, just like her. He was already in love with another girl... and Chat Noir has been in love with her, Ladybug, for a long time. He'd never seen Marinette because he only had eyes for Ladybug, just like her for Adrien. They were in a terrible, stupid and painful love square formed by them both.

Marinette then thought that the two boys who had stood her up, were only one.

The heart made light as air by the revelation and by the irony of the situation, Marinette simply burst out laughing.

xXxXxXxXxXxXxXx

Chat Noir looked at Marinette as if she'd gone nuts. He really couldn't see what was funny about this situation. He understood that she didn't want him anymore, but he wasn't sure he liked her laugh at that moment.

"Uh... Marinette? Everything is okay?" he asked, completely lost.

The girl plunged her azure gaze, shining with tears of laughter, into his emerald one and put her hand on his cheek. The feline's heart then seemed to want to get out of his chest.

"My sweet idiot Minou," she whispered tenderly.

Chat Noir's brain seemed to stop working when Marinette leaned towards him to whisper in his ear. "You are a blind idiot, but I love you like this."

She backed up her statement with a tender kiss on his cheek. A tender kiss which burned his cheek as if it had marked him with a red iron.

Why? Why did he feel that she was still hiding something from him? Why? Why did he suddenly feel light as a feather? Why? Why didn't his heart suddenly feel torn? Why? Why did he feel so happy that he wanted to scream with happiness?

He looked for the answers in Marinette's eyes. He disregarded everything he knew and everything he didn't know. He was simply guided by what his heart and intuition whispered to him. And suddenly the light was made in his mind, and the truth broke out beyond all secrets, as simple and as beautiful as it was: Marinette was Ladybug.

He knew! He knew it! But he'd always rejected that idea. He was afraid he's wrong. Afraid he's true. Afraid she doesn't like him. Afraid to not love her anymore. It was perfect. It was them. Quite simply.

The feline then thought of everything that had separated them and burst into laughter: so much suffering, so much disappointment, so much sadness... because of their blindness.

"We are both idiots," he said to Marinette, with sparkling eyes. "Two idiots madly in love with each other."

He leaned on the ear of the girl and whispered, his voice softer than ever. "I love you. I love you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and I would love you no matter what name you wear."

She slid her arms around his neck and their ardent eyes met.

"And I love you, too. I love you Chat Noir. I love you whatever name you wish to wear," she replied, just as lovingly as he did, getting closer and closer to his face.

Chat Noir didn't wait a second longer and plunged on her lips as if it were his breath of life. The cure for all ills. The note that was missing from the symphony of his life...
