7- Haunted
Since Vicki had gone back off the grid most of the town organized a search party to find her. It was day time, Elena updated me that Vicki did indeed complete her transition and Stefan was working to help make her "More like him" so hopefully we wouldn't see Vicki for quite some time, especially since I know I didn't make her a ring and I knew Bonnie hadn't done it either.
"You sure you wanna go to school?" Bonnie asked leaning on my doorway, I'd spent most of the night pacing and chanting if Damon showed up I didn't want him coming anywhere near either of us. "You look like shit."
"When you've seen a girl die then come back to life we'll see how hot you look after." I scoffed covering the bags under my eyes with makeup."All I need is some coffee and I'll be fine."
"Okay but I'm driving."
"Be my guest." I slip my bag over my shoulder and follow her down the stairs. Bonnie also failed to mention that she wanted to stop over at Gramm's first for more witch talk. Apparently Bonnie was getting tired of the simple things Gramms was showing her and wanted to move onto the as she called it "fancy parlor tricks" I was learning.
School was the usual, pretty boring. I noticed both Elena and Stefan were not present and I sort of regretted my decision. I'm sure they were getting into some crazy shit while I was busy learning things that wouldn't help me in the long run.
I slipped away from Bonnie & Caroline and called Elena, I know the world must be ending, pigs must be flying somewhere right now.
"Alicia, hey." Elena answered after a few rings. Her voice sounded a bit hoarse.
"Everything okay?" I asked, leaning against a locker."You ditched and didn't tell anybody."
"Yeah, I just wanted to see if Stefan knew where Vicki was. She's here by the way." Elena replied coughing a bit.
"Is she okay?"
"She's going stir crazy. I'm pretty sure once it gets dark she'll make a run for it."Elena replied."She also choked and threatened me so you need to be careful if you see her."
"For no reason?" I asked shocked, I kind of gathered from being around Damon that Vampires were impulsive, however he was more so violent when provoked, which didn't really mean much since he was easily provoked.
"I told her to stay away from Jeremy."She admitted with a sigh."She literally shoved him the other day, who knows what else could happen."
I hummed in agreement we talked for a bit longer before hanging up and slipping back over to Bonnie and Caroline.
"Finally you're back I can show you your halloween costume now." Caroline grinned as soon as I appeared in her line of sight. I noticed Bonnie holding what looked like a witch's hat and a short black velvet dress.
"Are we twitches?" I asked as Caroline pulled out an identical costume to Bonnies."And here I thought I was the only one interested in dressing us alike."
"Come on, can anybody be excited for halloween?" She pouted, my head whipped to the side when I noticed Bonnie pull Emily's talisman out of the bag that held our costumes.
"Isn't this the one you got from Damon?" I asked as Bonnie and I stared at the necklace. Now that I know exactly what it was. I wanted it so much more having that talisman could make me way stronger.
"Yeah, keep it, toss it. I just want it gone. Don't pout I managed to find a similar looking one at the store so you'll still look alike."Caroline flicked through my stuff and fished out a similar albeit clearly fake stone that wasn't even the same shade tucked behind the dress. "Have either of you seen Elena? Do we know what she's wearing?"
"She's with Stefan." I answered they both gave me a shocked look while I shrugged."I called her when I snuck off, wanted to check in since she ditched. You know something you two could have done."
"Probably riding on his white horse to his castle." Caroline made a face, I snickered at the pettiness. For once in our lives Elena didn't do a thing and Caroline absolutely hated that Stefan picked her. I'm sure if she knew the reason why however she'd be less annoyed about it.
"Don't be bitter. It provokes wrinkles." Bonnie chastised. Caroline fake snickered while I had a deep belly laugh. If its one thing Bonnie did, she delivered some great sas. " I'm gonna go to the bathroom I'll catch up with you two later."
I dipped into the bathroom and sighed at who was standing in front of me leaning against the wall.
"Stalking isn't cute and this is the girls room." I stayed by the door keeping the distance between us if need be I was gonna get out of here one way or another."Why are you here?"
"You're ignoring my calls. I thought we were friends." He replied pouting."If it makes a difference Vicki is much better off even she knows it."
"That doesn't take the mental image that's burned in my brain away." I huffed crossing my arms. "What do you want, Damon."
"A friend, Stefan & Elena are babysitting and I'm bored."
"That does not sound like an Alicia problem,actually this is probably one of many times I'm gonna get to say this. Just because my name is Bennett doesn't mean I'm in it." I flung the door open and hightailed it out of there. Why did I decide to be that mans friend? Was I that bored? Am I going crazy? I think thats it. I must be crazy.
The school party was in full swing, I didn't realize that Caroline also intended on being a witch too, however she went with a sexy witch while Bonnie and I were "comfy" witches.
"I hated this idea at first but we look pretty hot."Bonnie giggled as we took a few pictures together.
"Cider for the ladies?It's the Lockwood special." Tyler asked, holding out two cups to us. Bonnie made a face and gagged slightly.
"No thanks I was hungover until thanksgiving last time."
Caroline & I however didn't hesitate to grab a cup. "Lightweight." we both snickered.
"I am going to drink until somebody is hot enough to make out with." Caroline smiled.
"That won't be too hard."I smirked, winking at Tyler.
"Sounds like a plan." He smiled as Caroline and I toasted before taking a sip. I passed the cup back to Tyler, I'd rather be sober in case I had to set somebody on fire tonight. I was having a good time. I danced with Bonnie, Caroline and Tyler and a few of the cheerleaders for a while until I got pulled aside by a panicked Elena who was dressed in her costume from last year. Gross.
"Are you okay? And did Caroline not shove a costume at you?" I asked.
"Vicki's here." She said looking around. My eyes widened as I ended up scanning the room for her too."Help me find Jeremy please."
"Yeah no problem. Lets go." I grab her hand and the two of us fight our way through the thick crowd of teens. We'd checked the bathroom, the gym, every goddamn hallway this school has and didn't see either of them.
When I was just about ready to give up searching and go back to the girls, Stefan emerged from almost out of nowhere pulling Vicki behind him by the arm.
"Thank god." I mumbled.
"I lost track of Jeremy." Elena said." I was so worried."
I took a look at Vicki and this time I didn't faint. She looked the exact same as she did before this happened to her. I snorted when I noticed she too was dressed in a very literal costume and was a vampire.
"Whats going on?" I cringed as Matt walked up, literally anybody else in the world could have came over here and for whatever reason it had to be the one person who would question why Stefan was dragging his freaking sister out of the party. And it probably looked even weirder he was doing it in front of Elena.
"Everything's fine." Stefan said and I realized this was the exact moment where the shit was gonna hit the fan and splatter all over the goddamn place. Vicki's facial expression and body language gave her next move away before she even made it. And instead of dealing with the awkwardness that wasn't an Alicia problem, I got my ass out of there. I felt a cold breeze brush past me and sighed knowing it was Vicki darting out of there too.
"Oh for fucks sake." I mumbled I was halfway back outside and making my way to Bonnie when I noticed everyone's least favorite vampire standing in front of her. I'm pretty sure he doesn't realize she doesn't like him, or he simply did not care.
"So where'd you get that." I got close enough to finally hear what they were talking about. My mind immediately went to Emily's necklace. I put a bit more pep in my step and made it over just in time to see Damon try and snatch it off her neck. And Bonnie's gangster ass didn't even flinch when he did it! God I love that girl.
"Get away from my sister." I glared and oooh, I hit his ass with that fancy aneurysm move. However Bonnie used this moment to run off and now I hate her again. I stopped hurting Damon who surprisingly managed to hide how much pain he was in pretty well.
"You knew she had my crystal this whole time? You didn't think that was worth mentioning?" Damon growled.
"No it wasn't." I shrugged."And it's not your crystal. It's Emily's talisman which you could have mentioned. So consider us even."
"I liked you better when you were nice to me."
"Funny." I smiled when I noticed people pass by."You hurt my friend and compelled her to do god knows what, you fucking killed Vicki right in front of me for no goddamn reason. You need help."
I turned on my heel and stormed off to find Bonnie. Judging by the way Damon yanked his hand back, it looked like he got burned but I wasn't sure if it was the necklace or Bonnie that did it. God she ran fast as hell in those boots I was only a 30 seconds behind her and had no idea where she disappeared to. I ended up behind the school, I didn't think Bonnie would have even gone this far she was smart so she'd probably left altogether or was hiding in a crowd of people since she didn't expect Damon to do anything to her with witnesses. Or maybe he wouldn't kill her out of respect ? But then again that didn't stop him from feeding on Caroline.
"Vicki no!"
Oh fuck me, was that Elena? I sprint closer to the sounds and see Elena try to hit Vicki with a goddamn piece of plywood. Everybody in this town would be so dead on their own I swear to god. Vicki launched Elena far away from her and into a pile of trash I winced when she landed once the adrenaline wears off she's gonna feel that.
I give her an aneurysm and her restraint is nowhere near as good as Damon's; she doubles over clutching her head and then Stefan swoops in and shoves her against a school bus. I assumed Stefan's strength should've been enough to hold her back but once again, that's not the case and Vicki shoves him away? What the hell kind of life did Stefan live if he was over 100 years old and wasn't stronger than a newbie vampire? I'm gonna need to go make friends with Damon again if Stefan failed to protect me twice now.
"Get inside now. Go!" Stefan ordered. Elena grabs Jeremy and the two of them quickly run away.I cringed at the blood staining Elena's white outfit. It looked as if she landed on something sharp but I couldn't make out any holes. Stefan like an idiot starts to look under the buses, if I had super speed and I just made my escape common sense wouldn't be to hide under a nearby bus. I'd take my ass out into the forest or something.
My heart drops at the ear piercing scream Elena let out, I took off running ready to give Vicki another aneurysm but Stefan glided past me with a chunk of wood and rammed it into Vicki's chest.
"Oh shit." I mumbled pulling Jeremy's face into my chest trying to hide Vicki's greying body from his eyes. He broke out of my grasp and started calling out for her as she slowly fell to the floor and died.
"You need to get him out of here."Elena said, collapsing onto the ground beside Vicki.
"Take him, I'll call Damon and we'll make sure nobody sees."I reassured him, Stefan nodded and the two were gone in a flash. I pulled out my phone and quickly called Damon, surprisingly he answered and wasn't as sassy as I expected he promised he'd be around in a second and hung up.
Elena was a crying mess by the time Damon came which was literally two seconds like he'd said.
"You should go, I got this." Damon said I gulped when I noticed Elena stop crying and stare up at him slowly rising from the ground. She's gonna hit him. I lean on the side of the bus and watch to see what would unfold next.
"You did this. This is your fault."
"You confuse me with someone with remorse." Damon replied back uncaring and I knew that was gonna drive Elena insane.
"People die around you. How could it not matter? It matters and you know it." Elena said, I snickered but covered it with a cough. He's a vampire being alive does not matter to someone who is dead.
"You should probably go, you're bleeding and he eats that stuff." I interjected. I didn't really feel like watching the two of them argue especially since there was a literal dead body laying on the ground and the dead girl's brother was just inside the building.
Elena actually listened for once, and walked off leaving me leaning against the bus while Damon stared down at Vicki he looked almost sad. Almost.
"So I've decided Stefan isn't really good at protecting anyone." I straightened myself up and moved closer to him and Vicki. I felt my eyes water up as I looked at her face. It was still stuck in that same heartbroken shocked expression, her skin was grey and dry looking with all her veins protruding at the surface.
"Was it the roof top, or her almost killing Elena that made you come to that conclusion?" He asked scooping her body up from the sidewalk with ease.
"Both, he paused and was looking under the car for her when she pounced on Elena." I explained shaking my head."She was also much stronger than him."
"That's the bunny diet, Stefans on." Damon snorted."If it's any consolation Alicia, I didn't want it to end like this for her."
"I know."
Damon dropped me off at home while he was on his way to get rid of Vicki's body. I noticed Bonnie's prop broom by the door and let out a sigh of relief.
"Bonnie?" I yelled. I heard her muffled reply of upstairs and made my way to her room. Just as she did to me this morning I leaned in her doorway. She was dressed in PJs sitting on her bed with her knees to her chest."You okay?"
"Yeah it's hard not to freak out at witchy things when you aren't use to them." She replied with a small smile."Gramms explained to me what the necklace was, and that I should keep it. It like burned Damon when he tried to take it from me."
"As much as I want to take it from you, it clearly chose you." I replied with a shrug."I think it's safer if you hold onto it."
"If things get weirder you can have it." Bonnie held her pinky out to me, I laughed and wrapped my pinky around hers.
"Alright Bon."
