Season 1 Episode 6:
(Jack gets suspicious with Conrad's behaviour lately. Is it because he is struggling with losses, or is it because there are two Carter's.).
Area 51, airbase as well the storage facility for alien artefacts. But this story is focused on one particular piece. The Quantum Mirror.
It started glowing and two figures were inside the mirror. One figure yelled. "C'mon! I can't keep it open for too long!". Another figure firing a gun yelled back. "What about the others!?". The first figure yelled. "There's no time!".
With in seconds the two figures were at the other side of the mirror. The one with the gun asked his friend a question. "You sure this is the right place?" he asked. The other figure then spoke. "Anywhere is better then the alternative.".
Alarms wailed and guards came running. Aiming their stun weapons on them, the one figure spoke. "I am Doctor Samantha Carter. I work for the SGD.".
In the SGC, Conrad was jogging to the infirmary. As he was passing through people he stopped by Sam. "Hey babe." He quickly gave a peck on her cheek and kept going. Sam smiled. She gets butterflies every time.
Conrad arrived and he spoke. "So, what's so important……………….. huh?". There in the bed was another Sam. Long golden hair. Curls at the end. It would make a man's heart skip a beat. But Conrad looked at the door and back. "Didn't I speak to you like a minute ago?" he asked. The new Sam then had her eyes wider then dinner plates, she spoke. "Conrad?" she asked. Conrad didn't know how to respond. "Yeah?". The new Sam then tried to convince Conrad that she is the real deal. "It's me, Sam.". Conrad then looked at her. "I know that.". Then his Sam came by. "Hey, came to check……………………. What the?". Now the new Sam looked down.
In the briefing room they were watching they live interrogation. "This is a waste of time! I already told you everything I know!" yelled the new Sam. The officer then interrupted her. "Then we will do it again.". The new Sam sighed. "Four years ago, my colleague and I discovered the Stargate. Doctor Daniel Jackson. When we learnt what it is, we tried to get it to work. I did. It was my job to gather the right people for the job. General Jack O'Neill hired a South African Recce's officer. Third star Captain Conrad Baird.". The officer then spoke. "You mean Lieutenant Conrad Baird? He was never in the Recce's. South Africa was clarified destroyed.". New Sam then clenched her fists. "Poor man.".
Conrad shut the computer off. "Can someone explain this to me?". Sam then hummed. "Well, in each Reality, there is a different timeline. In each timeline, we live different lives, it's like crossroads.". Conrad then twitched his fingers. "Then which Reality is real?". Teel'c then shot him a look. "I said that.". Conrad then asked another question. "So there is somewhere a Reality where I can understand every word you say?" he asked. With a smile, Sam nodded.
The lights went on and then a man came in. Conrad shot up. "Jacin?" he asked. Jacin smiled. He was around the same muscle build as Conrad. He had his bangs combed side ways. Hazel brown eyes and a sharp jawline. Conrad stepped forward and was speechless. "I don't know what to say.". Jacin clapped his hands together. "ń Hello sal nice wees." (A hello will be nice.) He said. Conrad then patted him on the shoulder. "You tough son of a bitch.". Jacin laughed. "Tough, yeah. Son of a bitch. No.". Jacin then took a seat on the opposite side of the table, the new Sam came in. The two Sam's made eye contact. "Nice hair." Said the New Sam. Sam then nodded. "Thanks, Air Force.". The new Sam then tapped her foot. "Atleast you got in. I got expelled.". Sam couldn't help but be speechless. "How?". Conrad then made a secret wink at his girlfriend. But when he sat down, the new Sam came sitting next to him. With some discomfort he moved his chair a few inches away.
This made General Hammond chuckle. "You alright Lieutenant?" he asked. Conrad made a nervous smug. "Never been better.". General Hammond then spoke to the "Guests".
"As far as I understand, you seek refuge." He asked. Jacin spoke first. "Yes sir, we want to live our lives.". Sam then spoke. "Well, there can't be two of the same people occupying the same Reality. It will cause quantum failure.". Conrad then lend forward. "Quantum what? Never mind." He said. The new Sam then spoke. "Didn't you went to University in this Reality?" she asked. Conrad shook his head. "Finished High School and got a job." He said. Sam then continued. "As I was saying, tritonium might slow the effects down.". Jacin then raised his hand. "Isn't my double dead here?" he asked. Conrad nodded. "Unfortunately.".
General Hammond then gave a proposal. "We offer temporary refuge until further notice.". He then picked up a file. "Dismissed.". Conrad shot up and aimed for the door. But Jack stopped him. "Lieutenant. Show Doctor Samantha Carter to her quarters.". Conrad nodded. "Sure.". The new Sam followed him down the hall. "Hold up. Hey, uhmm, do you and Sam, have any form of attachment?" she asked. Conrad gave a blank stare. "She's my commanding officer." He said. The new Sam then gave a sly smile. "Oh.". Conrad opened the door and showed her to go in. "If you need anything, there is a guard outside.". He shut the door.
The new Sam sat down. Tears came running down her cheeks, sobs. She opened a pocket in her jacket and took out a photo. It is something very important to her.
Conrad was in the gym. Sparring with Teel'c. He dodged a few attacks and gave a few punches. Teel'c went down with a solid hit in the gut. Conrad held his hand out for Teel'c. He excepted it and rose to his feet. Jack came in clapping. "Wow. Really well done. By the way, the General wants to see you.". Conrad put his shirt back on and jogged. He arrived at the office. Hammond placed his phone down. "Tell them we been given word. They may stay as long as needed.". Conrad nodded.
The new Sam was on the bed still staring at the photo. A knock came from the door. The door opened and new Sam just spoke without looking. "Just put it on the table and close the door behind you.". Little did she know the one disturbing her, was Conrad. "Sorry what?" he said. New Sam then spun around. "Conrad." She desperately tried to wipe the tears away. "Sorry, I thought you were someone else." She explained. With a smile, Conrad waved it off. "No need. I got good news, you can stay as long as needed.". New Sam felt more tears coming. "That's great." She said. Conrad then tilted his head. "Are you okay?" he asked concerning. He stopped. "Look, I know this is weird. You lost a lot, so maybe I should-" but he got interrupted by her. "I lost you." She said.
Now, Conrad didn't know what was going on. Then he saw the picture. "I guess in your Reality you and I were-". But new Sam finished it for him. "Married.". Conrad bit his lip. "Damn, ek is nou in ń regte pekel." (Damn, now I am in a real pickle.). New Sam then spoke again. "And here you are, in this perfect little world, and you don't feel the same about me." She said through tears. Conrad had to resist the urge to yell. "Look, here, things are different. I can't just date you. First there is rank differences. I am a year or two younger then you, and I have nothing to offer. I have no country, no family, nothing. This job, is my life. Do you know how it feels?". New Sam shook her head. "Atleast here you are alive." She said. Conrad then groaned. "What happened?" he asked. New Sam sat on the bed.
"We met at the founding of the SGD. Stargate Department. You were hired for you were one of the top soldiers in the world. You were given many promotions, which you turned down. You were assigned to SG-1. I took part in the action. We got stuck on a planet. There you admitted your feelings for me. I admitted mine to you. We were together ever sense.
We were on our honeymoon, you got the call, you grabbed the bags, I turned off the oven, we left. We lived on a Ranch so, the table must still be set.".
Conrad then decided to try and cheer her up. "Probably cold by now." He said. New Sam chuckled. "Yeah, probably." Conrad got up and was preparing to leave. "I should go." He said. But new Sam stopped him. "No, please stay.". Conrad cleared his throat, he doesn't dare make eye contact. "Maybe I am not the person to talk to." He offered. But that didn't work. "No, you are the right person, the only person I want to talk to now. I lost you, I just want to be held one more time by the man who I promised to spend the rest of my life with.". Conrad couldn't help himself, those gorgeous blue eyes. Holding his arms out he nodded. "Bring it". New Sam thrown her arms around him. "I missed being in your arms.". Conrad didn't know what to do. Pushing her away he scratched his neck. "I gotta go." He bolted for the door. Outside he told the guard to keep an eye open.
Walking down the hall, he made sure he was alone. Punching a hole in the wall, he got his arm stuck. "Not again." Pressing hard he got his arm out. "How do I fix this piece of junk?". But he was caught. "What happened this time?" asked Sam. Conrad then felt embarrassed. "Nothing, just, a little pissed off." He lied. Sam laughed. "You know you can take out on me right." She said. Conrad hoped he didn't here what he just heard. "What?" he asked. Sam winked at him. "My lab, tomorrow morning." She said.
Still in shock he just nodded. "Good night." He said. Sam then gave him a quick kiss. "Good night.". With a smiled he went for the garage.
At his home he was alone. This time, no beer, no sketches, nothing. He was just sitting there. Smiling. But then it dropped. "What am I doing?" he asked himself. "I can't just sit here. I need to figure a way out of this situation.". But a knock on his door then brought him out of his trail of thoughts. "Coming.". Opening the door he saw it was Jack. "Colonel?". Jack spoke. "Hey, can I come in?". Conrad stood out of the way. "Sure.".
They both sat on the couch. "What's going on with you?" he asked. Conrad didn't know what to say. "What?". Jack rolled his eyes. "You have been acting weird lately." He said. Conrad then tapped his foot nervously. Jack on the other hand continued. "You struggling with losses? Or is it because of the two Carter's?". Conrad shook his head. "It's not that sir, it's just, if there are so many Realities, if there is a one where I live a good life, accomplished my dreams and doing the things I am good with, why am I here? I mean I am grateful for my job but, I miss my friends, family, my country. I just feel a little over the edge right now. It's impossible to say which is real and what's not.".
Jack laughed. "You sound like Daniel. I seen different realities. I seen a lot of stuff, but this new Sam, has a thing for you, and I wanna know why.". Conrad knew the answer, but could he admit it? "I do.". Jack then had his attention focused on Conrad. "Spit it out." He said.
Conrad sighed. "She claims that I am her husband."…………………
That made Jack speechless. "Ye kidding? You and her? Wow, who would've known?". Conrad lifted his shoulders. "I have no idea.". Jack got up and walked for the door. "Get some rest, we have some plans tomorrow.". Conrad nodded.
The next morning he got at Sam's laboratory. "Hey.". Sam went to him. "Hey" she said closing the door. "Remember when I told you, you can take your anger out on me?" she asked. Conrad nodded. "I still don't understand.". Sam smiled and took his hand and placed it on her leg. "I meant this." She went full out on him. With relaxing eyes, Conrad did the same.
But their moment of passion was ruined when a knock came on the door. They broke apart. Conrad thrown his shirt over his body, Carter placed the buttons on her shirt back as well.
"Come in." said Sam. The door opened and new Sam stood there. "Sorry, I was wondering if I could help?". Sam spoke while staring through her microscope. "Sure.". Conrad was pretending to sketch. Both Sam's looked at him. Conrad got the message and went out.
In the gym he was lifting weights. Jacin then came in. "Hey, care to spar?". Conrad sat up and wiped sweat from his forehead. "Why not." He said. Getting on his feet he got in the ring.
Conrad stood in the corner. Jacin in the other. They charged. Conrad grabbed Jacin by the waist and rams him in the ropes. Jacin elbows him in the back, Conrad released and then kneed him in the gut. Jacin then did a left cross punch, Conrad ducked and punched him in the stomach. Jacin stumbled and then attempted to knee him. Conrad round house kicked but used the inside of his leg to trap Jacin's head. He swung around and slammed Jacin on the ground. Releasing him he could hear Jacin cough. "I never seen you fight like that before.". Conrad helped his friend up. "Hey, I am good.". Both of them then stood there. Bier?" (Beer?) asked Conrad. Jacin smiled. "Natuurlik.". (Of course.).
The bar was quiet. Jacin and Conrad were at the pool table while drinking their beer. Jacin then for some reason laughed. "This is where you and Sam went on your first date.". Conrad smiled. "Same here.". Jacin nodded. "Guess some things don't change.". Conrad nodded. "Got someone special in your life?" he asked. Jacin shook his head. "I used too. She died.". Conrad sighed. "I am sorry.".
The two friends were having a great time. But Conrad then received a call. "Baird. What! On my way!" he hung up and thrown a ten dollar bill and ran for his truck.
At base he saw new Sam in the infirmary again. "What happened?". But his Sam was sitting on the chair. Crying. Conrad didn't know how to respond. Fraiser then answered the question. "Apparently, Doctor Samantha Carter, is pregnant. And it's a positive match to Conrad.". Conrad then yelled on the top of his lungs. "WHAT!!!!!!!!". Now everyone was looking at Conrad. Jack then punched him. "You son of a bitch!". Daniel crossed his arms. "You had some fun huh?". Teel'c gave a look of disgust. Conrad got up and wiped the blood from his lip. "How?". New Sam spoke. "It's not your Conrad's kid. It's my Conrad's kid.". She sobs. Now Sam and the gang, including Hammond was confused. Jacin then spoke. "What, they were married.". Sam and Jack were both speechless. Hammond then spoke. "Right. I guess we should send them home then.". Conrad nodded. "I'll go with them. If they want their world back, I might have some ideas.".
The Quantum Mirror was now finally on the base. Jacin and Daniel were trying to find their destination. "No, that's not. It has to have grenade damage.". Daniel nodded and went on. Jacin then started to panic. "Change it! Change it! CHANGE IT!". They did in time. Conrad, Jack, New Sam and Teel'c came in full gear. Conrad was making sure he got everything. "I am good.". New Sam looked at him. "So this, Asgard, if what you said of them is true, then they are the little green men we need.". Conrad then corrected her. "Their grey actually. Big black eyes, three feet tall.". New Sam smiled and couldn't help but giggle. This made Conrad blush. Jack came to him. "Hey uhmm, I am sorry for punching you.". Conrad nodded. "Don't mention it.". The mirror was on the right spot. As they touched it they were on the other side. The place was a mess. Conrad and Jacin lend against the wall. Showing a hand signal Jacin moved ahead. A Jaffa came pass, Teel'c grabbed him and broke his neck. With a nod they moved on. Jack moved as fast as possible. Conrad stopped and then used his enhanced senses to listen for any sounds. Nothing. He then pursuit on. He stopped as he heard yells and painful yells. He moved to the source. But what scared him was what he saw. Anubis, he was torturing Apophis and HIMSELF! Conrad then grunted. "Guess I am not dead after all.". New Sam came to him. "What is it?" she asked. Conrad looked at her. "He's alive.". New Sam couldn't help but cry in joy. Conrad then felt anger built inside of him. Taking the sniper rifle from Jacin, he aimed for the Jaffa head. Anubis left in time so he took the shot. The Jaffa collapsed on the floor. Conrad and new Sam went down and found the prisoners. New Sam then untied New Conrad's binds. They then went for a hug. "Are you okay?" asked the new Conrad. New Sam nodded. "The mirror worked. We know of an alien race who can help.". Conrad got on his feet. Untying his father. Apophis rose to his feet. "I am in your debt." He said.
But their moment got ruined when Anubis came with more guards. Jack then used his radio to Morse code to Daniel.
Daniel, while waiting for the others heard it. He repeated the message. "Caught, stay alert.".
Both Conrad' fought the Jaffa while Apophis was dialling. Anubis was enjoying the show. The gate sprung to life. New Sam ran for it. As Anubis tried to stop her, new Conrad tackled him. The gate died just as Sam jumped. Teel'c gave a smile. But the gang were prisoners. As Anubis knelt between the two Cha'tahr he could here in his breathing he was scared. "What deception is this?". Conrad didn't say a thing. Jack was looking at their binds. Standard rope. He could wiggle himself out but, he is gonna struggle. Apophis was trying to keep his emotions straight. Anubis grew impatient and started slapping people. "What is this!?" he demanded his answer. Conrad just smirked. "Altered Reality. Plus, there is one thing you did wrong. Now there are two Cha'tahr.". Both of the men pounced at Anubis. They flew through the window. Crashing on the floor the fought. Conrad round house kicked while his double went for a punch in the gut. Anubis couldn't do anything. But then, new Conrad then did something interesting. He brought his hands together and then struck Anubis in the gut with his palm, sending him flying with a shock like sound. Making the impact against the wall crumble. Conrad was shocked to the core. "I can do that?" he asked. His double nodded. "Yeah. Here." He handed a note. "Gate address. It will answer our questions.". Conrad took it and placed it in his pocket.
Next thing you know, beams came taking the Goa'uld. And in flashes all the damage was fixed. Then New Sam then appeared in a blink of an eye. "I met the Asgard." She said. Both Conrad's and Jack spoke in unison. "We can see that.".
But now it was time to go home.
The mirror was at the right frequency. Daniel was the first to cross. Then Jack. Then Teel'c. Conrad stood in front of his friend. "It was an honour serving with you." He said to Jacin. Jacin shook his hand. "Like wise.". Conrad then stood in front of the happy couple. "Take care of yourselves." He said. His double shook his hand. "Take care.". Then new Sam came and hugged him. "Thank you.". Conrad said nothing. He went to the mirror and touched it.
