Chapter 6
Author's Note
My apologies for the ending of the last chapter. I needed to wrap it up in some sort of way, but I've had a bit of writers' block as I mentioned in Chapter 5 when it came to working on this story. I'm hoping to clear the air and write this chapter with a bit more heart. And here is your reminder that this story has cussing. And stuff. Enjoy this next chapter!
Leave reviews please! I love reading them- they always make me smile.
No One's POV
"I'm calling off the bet."
"Wait, what!?" Connor exclaimed, his eyes filling with confusion. Travis missed the basketball shot he was trying to score and the ball bounced away as the two stared incredulously at Percy.
"First of all, timing, man. I just missed my shot." Travis chided and Percy chuckled weakly.
"Why are you calling off the bet? I thought things were going great!" Connor said, waving his hands around like their math teacher whenever he was attempting to explain a concept.
Percy racked his brain for a lie and he snapped his fingers. "Oh! Yeah, my.. My mom found out about the bet. She doesn't want me to do it anymore because it's disrespectful or some other shit like that."
Travis and Connor stared at each other then stared at Percy, blinking. "O-kay then, Perce. Are you sure it was your mom?"
"Yeah. You know how my mom is."
"And we know how you are, too." Connor murmured while Travis marveled at how obedient Percy was whenever it came to his mom. The three boys collected their things as they started to walk away from the park.
"Did you break up with her then?" Connor asked as they waited at a streetlight. They crossed the street once the light flickered and Percy huffed.
"No, of course not. Not yet anyways."
"You're gonna break up with her?"
"Duh. The bet is off. I don't even like her that much."
Connor and Travis stared at him. "Are you sure about that?"
"Yeah. Just drop it, okay? She doesn't like me that much either." Percy shrugged and the other two nodded.
"Hey, isn't that Rachel Dare?" Connor pointed out as they stood on the sidewalk near their school. A frizzy haired girl was kissing a guy with black hair under a tree. "She's dating Magnus, right? Senior or something?"
"That sure as hell ain't Magnus." Percy noted. "He's on the swim team with me… Er, he used to be."
"I should take a picture and send it to him. She's such a player. I heard she dated five guys within the span of a week." Travis muttered as he pulled out his phone. "Percy, get out of the way."
Percy and Connor shuffled to the side as Travis snapped the photo and pocketed his phone. "Hey, send me that picture? If Magnus doesn't believe you, he might me." Percy nudged Travis and he nodded.
"Sure, Perce."

"Okay, in Piper's own words, you are Percy fucking Jackson. You can break up with a girl over text." Percy thought to himself as he sat on his bed, his phone in his hands.
Then his conscious butt in. "But she's a nice girl, Percy Jackson! Grow some balls and break up with her in person!"
"That'll show I care." he told himself then he blinked. Was he seriously talking to himself on how to break up with Annabeth? Percy shook his head to clear his thoughts and he clicked onto Annabeth's contact.
His fingers hovered over the screen for a few minutes until he decided to just rip the bandaid off. He sent the text. And he waited. And waited.
He was a little impatient. But he knew Annabeth was probably in some sort of club meeting and would have her phone turned off.
"Oh, shit, I have to text Travis." Percy quickly fired off a text to his friend asking if he had sent the picture and when he responded with a no, Percy offered to do it and he sent the picture, not even looking at the contact name.
And that is where he completely fucked up.
Annabeth's POV
I was livid.
My day wasn't going that great anyways and coming home to find a ceremonious text from Percy Jackson that simply read 'I have to break up with you. I'm sorry.' made it even worse.
Not that I liked Percy all that much, it still irritated me that he didn't have the nerve to just break up with me face-to-face.
I was contemplating on what to tell him when Piper called me, then hung up, then called me again. Then she spammed a bunch of purple hearts, which meant it was an emergency, so I sighed as I picked up her call.
"Piper, you won't be-"
"ANNABETH! Percy cheated on you!" she shrieked and I winced as I rubbed my ears.
"Ow, Piper, what the fuck? Do you have to yell so loudly?"
"Did you not hear what I said, Beth?! He cheated on you with Rachel Dare! Rachel Dare!"
"No, he didn't? He broke up with me over text.. I just got the notification." I frowned, confused. "No, no, Beth, he broke up with you over text because he CHEATED!" Piper enunciated the word and I could imagine her waving her hands around as she yelled. I cleared my throat.
"He did? Who told you?"
"HE DID! He sent me a PICTURE!"
"No. Way." I muttered, suddenly feeling the anger bubble up in me again to replace my confusion.
"I just sent you the picture and a screenshot… I think he meant to send it to someone else, but he sent it to me instead."
"Why does he have your number?" I murmured as I clicked onto the picture and zoomed in. Piper scoffed. "It doesn't matter why.. But if you must know, Jason gave it to him in case he couldn't be reached. Anyways, did you see the picture? Tell me you saw the picture!"
"I saw the picture. I'm gonna call you back, Pipes." I growled before hanging up.
Okay, so maybe I wasn't that mad that he had broken up with me. Like I said, I wasn't about to be completely devastated that he broke up with me.. I saw it coming. I didn't like him that much and I really only went out with him to see what it would be like.
While it was fun, it wasn't going to last. Because no high-school relationship does.
"I mean, look at my parents." I thought bitterly as I waited for Percy to answer. I mentally thought about how I was gonna yell at him for not only cheating on me, but deciding to break up with me over a very plain text made me furious. Mainly because I found it offending. And rude. And.. other things. You get the point.
He finally answered on my second call. "Annabeth?"
"You fucker."
"What? Oh. Is this about the text?"
"No, you dumbass, it was about the test we were having in… No, of course it's about the text! First of all, you cheated on me, then instead of having the guts to just break it to me in person, you broke up with me over text! Do you think I'm some prissy cheerleader who will sob and eat chocolate and tubs of ice cream because a guy broke up with me? No!" I started to ramble and I paused when Percy made some sort of whale noise across the line.
"Wait, wait, what was that first thing you said?"
I sighed. "I said that you cheated on me and instead-"
"No, wait, I didn't cheat on you!"
"Uh, yes, you did. Percy, who are you fooling? I have proof.. Piper sent me a picture."
"Annabeth-"
"Percy, I'm going to send the picture to you. I don't really care that you cheated, but you could've just broken up with me in person." I said snidely and he made another whale noise.
"Annabeth, I didn't cheat on you.. Yes, I broke up with you over text, which now that I think about it, wasn't very smart of me, but your pride is just wounded and the point is, I didn't cheat on you and that's not why I broke up with you."
"Did you just tell me my pride is wounded?"
"Yes! 'Cause it's true! I broke up with you over text and you don't like the fact that I did."
"Percy, that's not the damn point! I don't care that you broke up with me.. You cheated on me!"
"You didn't like me that much anyways, so why do you care?"
That struck a nerve. Ouch. I was a little surprised Percy would say that- he's like a baby seal at times. But that doesn't matter.
"I don't care! I'm just saying, it's not right of you to cheat on me then break up with me over a stupid text!"
"Again, your pride is wounded. And I didn't cheat on you! Why would I cheat on you? "
"Maybe because I'm just a girl you were using and you didn't actually like me. That's bullshit. I'm hanging up the call, sending you the picture, and blocking you. Thanks for nothing, Percy Jackson."
"Annabeth-"
I hung up the call.
