A talkative rabbit sat across from her, at least that's how she would have initially described her, but now she was just being loud. At first she was intrigued by what role a child would play in politics but she lost all interest when she broke character.
That would be all well and good if that was all she had to deal with, on top of making sure this bunny rabbits plan didn't go too well she had to keep an eye on Narberal. If one was inclined to put it kindly Nabe was an open book if not, she was a liability. Like Demiurge, Albedo could claim expertize in adjusting herself to work better with others, but ... but, it really almost felt like Narberal really was their enemy.
That of course was all well and good when they were dealing with the lower life forms from the court and only questions about Momon came up. Everyone in Nazarick had a deep respect for Pandora's Actor, not only as a high level, very intelligent NPC, but as a being created by their sole remaining master. Even Albedo had to admit she understood where Demiurge's jealousy was coming from. Though he was an Area Guardian, they viewed him as being better than them and would rather agree to talk as equals instead of using their positions to elevate themselves.
It was just as how Albedo viewed the undead created by their master, they were higher than all other NPC's but her master was too kind and called them disposable but wasn't willing to sacrifice any NPC's.
Though if Narberal was to be asked about the Sorcerer King she'd get stumped, and that's where the problem lay, trying hard to fit in her role (she was incredibly good at it too) while hiding her reverence for her master seemed like two tasks that Nabe wasn't very good at doing at once. But Albedo wasn't a pot to call the kettle black, but at least she knew how to control herself in front of these insects.
So far these creatures idiocy worked in their favour, they believed that Nabe simply didn't want to talk about her 'oppressor'. But Albedo was more worried if she would get cornered and they would press their questions, that was where the real problem lay especially because they kept on trying to get Nabe alone. So far her masters plan had been working so well. At this rate the talks would fall through, but if someone figured out Nabe it would be problematic, to say the least.
How did Momonga-sama deal with her? No! He's the only supreme being, he always adjusts and lowers himself for our sake, it's wrong to try and do things like him, I can only adjust myself to fit his great plans. But it seems that even this is working to my favour ... somehow. I would be more at ease if the rabbit was pretending to believe this.
"Albedo-sama. We have arrived."
She's sobered up, I just hope it isn't another entrance.
When she exited her carriage she had to admit that she felt a semblance of respect for these creatures. They at least knew how to pay respect to their superiors, even if those superiors where still lower life forms themselves.
She stood in front of what she could only describe as a shrine. It had a two statues resembling two dragons. It was easy to tell that they were made of stone and only plated in platinum.
Platinum is such a weak and cheap metal, why not make the whole thing out of it.
"The Dragon Emperors Monument. This is capital's centre. The images of the Dragon Emperor and his wife are preserved here. It a very common attraction for anyone passing through here."
It started speaking again in that annoying excited voice of its.
"The Dragon Emperor was the father of one of the council members, the Platinum Dragon Lord. When he first built this nation this was erected as a reminder – at least that is was my master said."
"A reminder for what?"
"I'm not quite sure. Something about making sure your desire for power doesn't lead to your downfall, ensuring that whatever you bring into your fold you can handle and that it won't haunt those that come after. I didn't really understand him, then again whenever the topic of the Dragon Emperor comes up most Dragon Lords remember the last thing he did, which you could say resulted in the world we know today."
"What does that mean?"
"I don't know either! Haha."
Useless.
Another carriage drove in behind them. Shortly after Momon and a dark elf woman stepped out.
"Prime Minister-sama, what a surprise! I thought you'd be at the council meeting?" he greeted her with a perfect bow. Perfect in the sense that it wasn't overblown or out of place. It was a bow used to greet superiors where taking a knee would be inappropriate. It was a bow that would make Nazarick proud.
Which is why it was too weird. It wasn't Pandora's Actors' style, he would always simply put a hand on his chest and click his heels.
I think he's getting too invested in this role.
"I had a some free time. I was told I'd see a majestic sight, so I was intrigued." She replied, she could only respect his investment, or rather anything less was unacceptable.
Pandora's Actor or Momon rather was quite detached throughout the tour. Calling the city beautiful by Nazaricks standards would be rude but it certainly was beautiful by these plebeians standards. The capital even had a very large well structured building that Albedo was told was the convening area of the Dragon Lords – should they convene, of course.
So no matter how hard she thought about it she couldn't figure out why the ever energetic Area Guardian – who had been getting excited about simple things this entire time – was brooding listlessly as he walked around the square.
"Momon-sama, is your esteemed person not feeling well?"
"Mm? No, I was just deep in thought. My apologies for worrying you, Diamante-san."
"No, this one should be apologising for disturbing your thoughts!"
Maybe her objective is Momon?
"So what was your esteemed person thinking about?"
"I was wondering if the Sorcerous Kingdom would ever look this grand?"
"You flatter us with your kind words, to think you would consider our humble country to be grand, surely Momon-sama hails from a land far greater than this?"
Heh! How right you are.
Momon didn't answer her question immediately. "If you say so, it must be true. Speaking of which, what's it like to serve a Dragon Lord?"
That's barely a connection but I'm interested.
"It's the greatest honour one could possibly have, we know that our lives are given purpose fulfilling the wishes of the Dragon Lords."
Momonga-sama is even greater than those stupid lizards!
"Do you know all the Dragon Lords? Their names or personalities and such?"
"Of course I know their names, but I've never met them so I can't say much else?"
"Then how do you receive your orders?"
"The court follows the general direction given by the councillors, should there be an event that requires their attention a member simply goes to their Lord, but there are hardly any situations like that."
"So someone knows where they live?" Momon turned to face the dark elf.
"Well three of them any way."
The dark elf went on to tell Momon about how some of their councillors could use magic of up to the fifth tier.
Laughable. They're weaker than Narberal.
And how some could use ancient magic with tier magic. Those caught Albedo's attention, but the dark elf claimed not to know much more.
"Albedo-sama, I must apologise for cutting your tour short, but the council meeting starts within the hour." The rabbit cut in.
"Then Prime Minister-sama, I suppose we'll see each other again at dinner?" that surprised Albedo.
"You're not attending?"
"Just as much as you don't seem to enjoy sight seeing, I'm not one to say I can really tolerate so much politics. Besides, I'm simply a law enforcer, I don't need to know the finer details of the court."
"Then we'll see each other later, will you be touring the entire capitol?" Albedo figured he had other plans in mind.
"I have thought of that, maybe I should after all."
Albedo had to admit to herself that she wasn't good at senseless talks or rather she wasn't gifted with the ability to give people a sense of hope using her words when it wasn't related to internal affairs. Lying was one thing, but using words to her advantage wasn't her forte. Be that as it may, when her master had asked who she would recommend to accompany Momom to act as a representative of the court she didn't hesitate to nominate herself.
Her master wasn't averse to sending her, she initially thought he'd be sad that she would leave him, like the last time but he wasn't. When she said she'd leave her work to Demiurge her master was – for some reason – very pleased and recommended they leave as soon as possible.
Maybe Momonga-sama's plan works better if I'm here? Yes, that must be it.
If Demiurge were here he would offer them a deal they couldn't refuse and find other opportunities only he could exploit meanwhile he'd plan for their master's plan to work perfectly, while her master would ... he would have had a completely different approach even she couldn't fathom.
But her reason for coming out here was one Demiurge couldn't find out, which was why she would have loved to leave Narberal alone lest she say something that destroys their masters plan, unlike Demiurge she wasn't that great a schemer so putting things back on track was something she would have a hard time with.
Luckily she had a comrade who was as great a schemer as Demiurge and was gifted with the gab, plus he was very intelligent, but right now he seemed out of sorts. She couldn't place her finger on it, but something was wrong.
"Ah, you wouldn't mind if I stole Nabe from you for a while."
Trying to figure him out would be something for another day, right now it seemed he had instead read her mind.
"Not at all." She said accepting his assistance in getting into her carriage, leaving the two of them behind.
Of course being unable to exercise her potential here was no fault of her own, everyone of these plebeians weren't talking to her or telling her anything useful. Their caution was overly apparent as if even one word would mean their destruction. Well at least any other day that would be true.
Momon had already gotten information about the Blue Sky Dragon Lord, Diamond Dragon Lord, Wyrm Dragon Lord and Obsidian Dragon Lord as four of the five Councillors. But right now their names were of no consequence to her, she was more concerned with the Platinum Dragon Lord, Tsaindorcus Vaison.
Unfortunately she wasn't permitted into their library, so she had to leave all the information gathering to him. Which she wasn't exactly glad to do. To her it meant she couldn't search properly for the existence of players and slowly narrow down her search. It would be if the only one's watching her were the Hanzo's, she was never alone, they didn't even pretend to leave her alone.
Is Pandora's Actor helping me in this regard? Well he did say he was going to be 'sight seeing' all week. By the end of this week we'll have either confirmed our search or have to look somewhere else.
They arrived at their temporary residence in the middle of the day. They had missed lunch, but Albedo didn't want to eat their food anyway, as a demon she didn't need to eat of course it didn't mean she couldn't. So skipping lunch was better for her. She wasn't sure if Doppelgängers had to eat but considering Pandora's Actor had remained locked in the treasury she didn't think so. Narberal had a Ring of Sustenance so it was misleading.
After confirming she was somewhat alone in her room Albedo looked at the piece of paper Momon had slipped into her hand when he helped her onto the carriage. She flipped it twice to make sure that all the content that was written was all the information she had received, but no matter how hard she thought she couldn't do anything about it.
Riku Agneia is the Platinum Dragon Lord.
She was glad their suspicions were confirmed but he didn't state that he wanted to meet to talk about their next move, Pandora's Actor wasn't one to make such a mistake. It either meant that he wanted her to find out more information on her side, or that she was to blame for Riku Agneia not showing his face – or armour, rather – again.
She walked slowly into the council room only to be met with tense faces as they realised that they would be alone with her. She revelled internally in their fear, but for now she would play the perfect Prime Minister and exercise her full knowledge of the court to make them want to rethink not making ties. She wanted to see the excuses they would come up with the less and less profitable it became for them to decline, she was at least determined to do that much.
"Rigrit. What brings you all the way here?"
"It's rare to find you awake? Did something happen?"
Tsa had only sensed her making her way to him a short while ago.
"I had to take care of a few things. Ainz Ooal Gown is still making moves. You'd think he would slow down for a while after what happened. And you? It's rare that you would come visit me."
"It would seem the Slane Theocracy has ceded the war to the Elves."
"Why? They weren't at a disadvantage."
"I hear the Elf King sent two of his strongest children in, and they turned the tide." Rigrit said that but it clear she didn't believe it.
"Even if that's the case, the Theocracy would have sent that child. If the King only needed two to have things his way, they wouldn't hesitate to take the war back."
"Then surely it's because they fear your interference."
Tsa chuckled.
But would they if things turned that unfavourable? They've been at this for a while?
"Does the Elf King strike you as the type to keep such trump cards away from the front line? The only reason the war went on for that long was because he recklessly threw people into the fray, especially woman and children."
"What are you trying to say, Rigrit?"
"It just seems odd that he would win now?"
"How old were the children?"
"Even I can't tell the ages of Elves on sight, and it's not like I saw them either. But by the rumours say they are apparently comparable to humans around the age of ten."
"Then doesn't that answer your question? Even the Elf King wouldn't throw in infants even if he believed they were strong."
Rigrit had an uneasy look on her face. But thinking without information would get her nowhere.
"Anyway, it would seem the Dragon Queen has joined borders with the Sorcerer King. He helped her fend off the Beastmen that the Theocracy could no longer help with. It seems he is either making good friends or mortal enemies wherever he goes."
"They do share a border." Tsa was uninterested. He was more curious about the Theocracy's decision. Were they only pretending so that they could take the Elf Kings head during diplomatic talks or did the Elf King manage to keep a fighting force that great a well kept secret.
Maybe he didn't know about them until recently? It doesn't matter ... whatever he does doesn't affect or concern me anyway.
So I posted the Demiurge scene separate from this story for anyone who didn't want to see it, those that do please check it out! I tried my best. Review on both stories requested.
