Amun-Ra always found the desert fascinating despite centuries of being very familiar with it. The Land of the Living was located right next to one after all. The desert at first glances seemed harsh, cruel and empty of all life. It was understandable, given the general lack of water and unbearable heat. That was just during the day. Yet, once night came the temperatures would drop and all sorts of life came out. Jackals, scorpions and many more. Life appeared even more so after a rainstorm. It was all so fascinating to Amun-Ra, how life always found a way. He gave Set a sideways glance. The god of the desert, foreigners, and war was one of his most loyal subjects.

The desert was Set's domain, and proved himself to be an excellent guide, not that Amun-Ra even needed one, and as one of his best warriors. Set served upon Amun-Ra's barge whenever Apophis was feeling a bit too cocky and tried to eat a chunk of him. Fun times. The embodiment of Chaos was quite annoying, but he shouldn't be underestimated. Chaos was like that sometimes, very unpredictable. Amun-Ra glanced at the other minor gods and goddesses that served upon his barge. Most were being lazy, only doing their work once Amun-Ra's gaze fell upon them.

"You are looking for something, aren't you Set." Amun-Ra said casually as he returned his gaze to the god with the head of an animal named after himself. Set the god, and set the animal breed were difficult to explain to those who haven't met said god.

"Perhaps your Majesty." Set replied slowly, his eyes scanning the desert below them. It was his domain after all, just as his brother Osiris ruled the Land of the Dead. "I sense that something is amiss."

"Hmm." Amun-Ra rubbed his chin slowly. "Hopefully the Babylonian Pantheon decides to behave today. They're quite annoying to deal with." In simpler terms, the assholes were a minor pantheon that tried to act like they were part of the Big Three Pantheons, the Norse, Greeks, and of course, the Egyptians. Naturally they tried invading, but always found themselves repulsed by the combined efforts of Set, Osiris, Anhur, and Bastet along with a few legions of the undead. The bastards got wrecked and retreated back to their domain.

"I would give them a decade or so before they try something again." Set flashed him an evil grin. Set could manipulate the desert itself, and used it to a great extent during the war.

"I hope so." Amun-Ra already had a lot to deal with on his plate. He didn't need anymore problems being formed. Suddenly, Set's eyes widened as he walked towards the side of the sun barge. Amun-Ra remained seated on his throne, but stared at Set curiously. "Do you see something?"

Set raised his head in the air and sniffed. "Yes." He pointed somewhere below them. "A body." Hmm, who would be so unlucky to try and travel through the desert during the day without any preparations.

Amun-Ra cracked one of his fingers and sighed. "Go and check if it's mortal." It seemed that Anubis was going to have another heart to weigh. Set nodded in response, and his body vanished as it turned to sand. Damn it, Amun-Ra just had the barge cleaned last week! A few minutes later, Set appeared with a small body in his arms.

"She's still alive." Set said with a grim look on his face. Well that was good. Still, why would he bring a mortal on the barge?

"Good. Wadjet, bring us a blanket, some food that isn't my snacks, and water, not my sparkling water." No one was allowed to touch his food. Food was the most important sustenance in the universe. The cobra headed goddess quickly nodded and ran towards their storage box.

"Any idea who she is?"

Set shook his head as he laid the girl on the blanket Wadjet had laid on the floor. "No, but I know one thing for certain…"

Set looked up and stared into Amun-Ra's eyes. "She's a goddess."

Amun-Ra examined the unconscious goddess that laid before him. The girl was dressed in some weird clothing that was battle worn and that seemed it was a bit too big for her. One of the sleeves appeared to be completely sliced off, revealing her grey glowing skin. Yup, she was definitely a goddess. Was she a Greek? A Babylonian spy? There was a chance that she was one of their own since Amun-Ra did not remember most of the minor gods and goddesses. Amun-Ra glanced at the girl's face. She couldn't have been older than twelve, unless she had stopped aging at a certain age. Wadjet was carefully dripping water along the girl's lips.

"What do you think?" Amun-Ra turned to Set who was standing next to him as they examined the young goddess.

"Hm, I believe that she's an idiot for trying to cross the desert while dressed like that." He pointed the butt end of his spear towards the unconscious goddess. "Her features seem a bit similar to the Greeks, but a part of her is similar to our own people." Ah yes, animal heads were quite common among their Pantheon. Amun-Ra remembered several goddesses complaining about it after they gave birth. Some had the type of face that only a mother could love, the ugly bastards.

"You're right. She has a bit of Isis here." Amun-Ra pointed at her nose. So called 'normal' faces were uncommon, but they were not unheard of. Osiris and Isis did not have animal heads and they were well known throughout the realms.

"Bastard child?"

"I believe that the term is, affair baby."

"...you're lucky that no one else heard that your Majesty. That's offensive to all bastards." Set form a grin.

"Ah, I wasn't aware that I offended you Set." That got a laugh out of the both of them. Wiping a tear from one of his eyes, Amun-Ra waved his hand to dismiss Wedjet, he back to his throne. "Wake her up so we can question her."

Set nodded and poked the girl with the butt end of his spear. She giggled softly and rolled off of the blanket. Well that was embarrassing. Set glanced at Amun-Ra who raised his hands in defense. With a sigh, Set poked the goddess several times, when her giggled finally turned into a groan. Eventually, her eyes opened.

Time for his dramatic entrance.

"Ah, you're awake." Amun-Ra said slowly. The girl sat up quickly with wide eyes. She looked him up and down slowly.

"A-Am I dead?" Aw, the poor thing was afraid. Wait a minute, Amun-Ra gave her eyes a closer look, golden brown. The girl was a sun goddess? Now that was interesting.

"Of course not, young goddess." Amun-Ra said with a smile on his face. Hopefully Set knew he was going to play bad cop.

"Who are you-" She started to ask when Set started barking off the list of Amun-Ra's many titles. Now that was interesting. Even the gods and goddesses of pantheons far away knew of Amun-Ra and his sun barge. Being a king meant that the public's eye was always focused on him.

"Peace Set." Amun-Ra gave him a side glance. Set saluted while saying something else and took a few steps back. Standing up slowly from his throne, the girl quickly went to her knees and tried to avoid Amun-Ra's eyes. Maybe Set was playing the good cop? Why would she be scared of him?

"What is your name young one?"

"I-I don't remember...I don't remember anything!" She clenched her fist. Now this was even more interesting.

"Look at me child." She slowly looked up, yet her face did not show any traces of fear. "We shall help you."

Amun-Ra turned to Set who was watching the exchange blankly. "Contact Isis once we return. She should be able to help the child." They should probably call in Bes as well. Amun-Ra would have called Thoth, but he didn't need to owe Osiris anymore favors. Set nodded in response.

"I'm not a child!" The child blurted out. Set seemed a bit angry at the disrespect shown, but a gesture from Amun-Ra calmed him.

"When you're as old as me, everyone is a child, child." Amun-Ra gave her a wide grin. "Still, I can't keep calling you child. It's rude after all."

The child remained silent. Time to see what type of goddess she was. Patting her head softly, Amun-Ra's eyes widened ever so slightly. The girl was to be the goddess of the morning sun, the renewal of life, and creation. She would grow to be powerful in the future. Destruction and creation were both two sides of the same coin.

"I shall call you Khepri." Amun-Ra flashed her another smile. Khepri stared at him for a fee seconds before scoffing.

"That sounds stupid."

Set immediately started screaming profanities at Khepri. Oh shit, even more work to do now.

How...wonderful…

After the next chapter we will be going back to the present. Grandma passed away yesterday morning which took away my inspiration for DYFD?

I wasnt that close to her, but seeing my Dad cry hurts more than her passing. He's just a shell of his former self right now.

Also, feel free to write omakes if you want to. Go and flood the thread if you want with them, just don't double post if you can help it.

I started watching Higehiro and episode 3 traumatized me. Wasn't expecting that at all
