"The first ring is wholly for the violent. Because violence can be done to three persons, in three rounds is divided: violence unto one's neighbor, unto one's self and unto God." – Virgil
Six circles down, three to go. That was what Dean was thinking about as he walked side by side with Tessa. He knew what the last three circles were, but he wasn't looking forward to them. Especially Violence. He knew that was going to be a tough one to overcome.
He had seen his fair share of violence in his life. It was a part of a hunter's life after all. But he didn't know how that would translate into a challenge in Hell. If he was going to be completely honest, he was worried that he might not be able to conquer it.
Dean still wasn't sure about the order of the circles, so he still didn't know what the next one would be. Focusing on the road ahead, he noticed they were approaching a crossroad with only three possible roads.
At the entry of the roads was a man. Tessa quickly introduced him as Ares, the God of Violence. Dean took a step forward and stood in front of the man, waiting for him to say something that would explain the three roads. Dean knew he was going to struggle with this one.
Ares spoke, telling Dean that in the seventh circle he had not just one challenge but three, hence the three roads behind him, and for him to successfully move on to the next circle he had to overcome all three. Dean nodded, steeling himself for what was coming. Of all the circles, this and Anger were the ones he feared the most, so he knew he had to keep a cool head if he was going to get out of there.
Following Ares into an opening at the start of all the roads, he saw a new man appearing. Ares introduced him as Phonoi, the God of Murderers, and took a step back. Dean watched Phonoi snap his fingers and in front of him was Eldon Styne again.
Dean could feel his anger rise and it took all of him not to lunge forward and kill Styne with as much violence as he had used on Charlie. Hearing Styne remember exactly what happened with Charlie, how she begged for her life before he killed her, or how easy it was to find her, Dean wanted nothing more than to kill him. But he knew he couldn't, so he took a deep breath and waited. It was bound to end soon, or at least he hoped so.
Sure enough, as quickly as he appeared, he disappeared. Once that was over, Dean let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Looking back at Phonoi, he saw the God bow and disappear. "One down, two to go.", he thought as he watched another man appear.
This was Thanatos, the God of Death, and as soon as he appeared, he snapped his fingers and Crowley was standing in front of him. Dean was shocked to see him there. He certainly wasn't expecting to see Crowley, and it showed on his face.
Dean didn't have time to fully process what was happening. Crowley started shouting at him about how he died for him and Sam and all that he had done for them, without so much as a thank you. Crowley went on and on about all the times he had double-crossed the Winchesters, and Dean was starting to feel his anger rise once again.
Closing his eyes, he remembered all the times they had fouled Crowley's plans, all the times they had the King of Hell under their thumbs, and that brought some relief, going as far as making Dean smirk a little.
And just like that, Crowley was gone. Dean realized Crowley had stopped talking and opened his eyes to see he had disappeared. Looking over to where Thanatos was standing, he saw the God bow his head and disappear as well. Dean took a deep breath and waited. "Only one more to go."
Just as Dean thought that, a new God appeared. This time, and according to Ares, it was Dionysus, the God of Wine, who apparently was once punished for blasphemy. Dionysus smiled at Dean as he snapped his fingers and Abaddon appeared in front of him.
Abaddon started ranting about how much she hated God and how she wished she could just kill him and take his place. Dean didn't really pay attention to what she was saying, after all if he was being honest, he thought the same way she did. Well, minus the whole 'taking his place' thing.
It didn't take much for Abaddon to disappear. Dean was actually surprised that it went as quickly as it did. Looking to Dionysus, he saw the God raising his glass and bowing his head before disappearing. Dean walked back to Ares and he was led to Tessa.
Once again by Tessa's side, Dean heard Ares congratulating him on passing all three challenges by staying calm and that he was granted passage to the next circle. Bowing his head towards Dean, he quickly disappeared.
Dean looked back at Tessa and smiled, feeling really proud of himself for being able to control himself and not screw everything up so close to the end. Two more circles and he was bound to go home. They started walking again, and Dean started feeling like he could actually do this. He could actually conquer all the challenges and save everyone's souls and go home.
"Just two more. Two more and I'm done.", he thought as he continued walking towards the next circle.
