This is another chapter
Klaus continued looking at his painting as he said," Over the course of my life, I have encountered no shortage of those who would presume to speak of good and evil, such terms mean nothing people do what is in their best interest regardless of who gets hurt, is it evil to take what one wants, to satisfy hunger even if doing so would cause another suffering what some would call evil, I believe to be an appropriate response to a harsh and unfair world."
" No offense but I am not sure if I follow why you invited me here," Cami said. Klaus stopped looking at his painting and turned to face her,
" Because I enjoy your company and I believe you have the means to understand someone of my complexity. You see I returned to New Orleans to investigate a threat posed against me, what I found was a young woman, pregnant in need of protection, and my brother always the do-gooder, tried to manipulate me into helping her. He thought it might redeem me," Klaus said the last part with a scoff, he then started pacing around the room, Camille looked rather annoyed although tried to maintain a courteous face" Trouble is I have since learned of another young woman, a girl really one with vast potential held in captivity by a tyrant. I want to help both of these women, protect one and free the other. So tell me Cami does that sound evil to you?"
" I don't believe in evil as a diagnosis, I think you have unstable personal relationships, stress-related paranoia, chronic anger issues, and fear of abandonment. I think you could benefit from talking to someone professionally," Cami replied,
" I think I prefer to talk to you," Klaus said as he moved to sit down on a desk," So I am going to offer you a job as my personal stenographer,"
" Okay, so what are we writing?"
" My memoir, of course, someone should know my story, " he said, before turning to her again," And it will give us time to discuss other riveting subjects, like your handsome suitor Marcel."
" Excuse me, My private life is.."
" Your private life as it turns out is essential to my plans, you see Marcel wants you and because of that he will trust you which serves me," he got up from his chair, " You see the French Quarter is on the verge of war and one side there is me and on the other Marcel and a very powerful witch and an army of vampires," Klaus now looked sadistic,
" What ?"Cami said in a disbelieving voice before he suddenly materialized towards her and looked her in the eye intending on gaining another minion of his.
"I don't know what the big deal is," Elena said, tucking my legs underneath me. "I feel fine."
Agnes, the witch sent to check up on Elena, sat on the couch across from her. "You are overdue for a check-up," She insisted.
" Quite concerned about my safety aren't you, maybe you and your witch friends must have been more concerned when you tortured me every day," Elena said
"A lot of women would kill to have a child," Rebekah piped up from the other side of the room. "It strikes me as odd that you're not taking better care of yours."
" And besides, take this as me making amends for what happened to you when you were with us," Agnes said.
" And besides love never took you for being a one to hold a grudge," Rebekah said again
"I know a doctor out in the bayou," Agnes explained. "Off the beaten path. Now, I took the liberty of making an appointment for you. Tonight, after hours, just us. Vampires would never get word of it."
" Fine but I will drive and you are giving me the location of where you want me to be to pick you up, I have to go somewhere.," Elena said.
" Where are you going?" Rebekah asked," Please don't tell me that Diego asked for a date so soon."
" No he didn't," Elena said looking uncomfortable before pulling herself back together, " Today is the day my adoptive parents died, it is a tradition in my family to light candles for the death on the day of their passing, I would like to do that alone." Elena finished looking pointedly at Agnes when she said the last part,
" It's not safe Elena," Rebekah said," But if you want to honor your parents then I won't stop you."
" Thanks and after that, we are going to the bayou baby doctor," Elena said.
It was after some time when both Elena and Agnes had left, that Klaus walked in,
"Please, sister, tell me you're not still at it with the internet search," Klaus says as he walks into the room. "How does one begin anyway? Just type in the anonymous attic?"
"Someone has to find Elijah," Rebekah says, not looking away from the computer. "Even if I have to search every bloody attic in New Orleans."
"Like looking for a needle in a rather large pile of needles," Klaus says.
"I remember details about the attic Marcel took me to," Rebekah says. "There were shutters on the windows behind Elijah's coffin."
"Well, that should narrow it down immensely." Klaus rolls his eyes "Myself, I prefer actual strategy as opposed to mind-numbing labor. Marcel's delay in returning our brother makes me suspect he's no longer in charge of the situation. If Davina's loyalty to Marcel is strained, perhaps the young witch will be open to discussing a new alliance."
"As usual, your power grabs are more important than rescuing your brother." Rebekah sounds annoyed.
"I prefer to think of it as killing two birds with one stone." Klaus smiles widely at her. "Rob Marcel of his secret weapon, bring our brother home."
ELENA POV'S
I took a deep breath as I parked my car outside St. Anne's church, and checked the bracelet on my wrist, before opening the car door and moving out of the car. I pushed the memories of my parents away lest I should break down. The church was quite a big place and from what I heard people from New Orleans called this place cursed, although I had never really found out why the gates were closed but not locked. I hesitated for a second before opening the door as it made a creaking noise. The candles that I had brought with me shook in my hands as the images of my parents seemed to paint a portrait in my mind. I wonder now what they will think of the daughter they raised, will if I ever get to see my dad again would he take me in his arms and pick me up and say what he used to call me, my little warrior princess, what would my parents think when they see me pregnant at eighteen, I knew they both would have been supportive even if I had seen the emotion of disapproval flicker on their faces from time and time again, what would Jeremy be thinking when he would see me from wherever he was and see me playing housemates with his killer and Aunt Jenna, I didn't even want to imagine her but I did, I imagined her honey brown curls and sweet smiles as a human and for her short period of life as a vampire I imagined her fear, her determination as even in her last moments she fought to save her niece live's. And how did her niece repay her, by getting pregnant with her killer, for god sake's her own murderer?
Teenage pregnancy was as hard as it is and I had been only eighteen when I had found out, all the while mourning my family members and being tortured by lunatic witches. The guilt, anger, confusion, and grief were overflowing me as I kept it all locked away in the deepest corners of my mind. It would not be wise to show your weaknesses when you were with enemies. I had despised the whole family and now I was somehow bound to them by the two lives that nurtured in my stomach. I had never expected Klaus to even care for a baby and I didn't think he did. To all the originals, maybe family meant something to them and it was the only way they latched on to their humanity, but the methods they showed that they cared were twisted beyond something that I could not even comprehend. I mean how does one even do what Klaus did to Elijah like you do not put your own brother in a coffin and give it one of your enemies or friend, whatever.
The vampire that I had killed had been my first kill and I had barely held it all together during the confrontation with Klaus before immediately going to the restroom, and turning on the bathroom tap and shower before breaking down, it was mercy in itself that I did not remember how he looked like otherwise, the face would have haunted me in my sleep. I remember Stefan telling me once as his voice echoed in my ears as if he was with me, The first kill is always the hardest. And I wished he was here, all of them were but I didn't have the courage to face them, I wasn't strong enough at least not at this particular time. My own guilt and disapproval of myself were enough for now I don't think I could bear all that of my friends the only remaining family I had left. I couldn't look into their eyes and see the hurt and betrayal on their faces. Maybe one day I would go back there, but not now and with that thought I stepped into the church.
" We are closed," I heard a voice say as soon as I stepped in, I looked up to see a guy lighting some candles,
" I am sorry, I won't take long just five minutes. "
" I am sorry Miss, but you see this church no longer works."
" But why? I heard this place used to be the heart of the city." He stopped what he was there and looked at me,
" You are not from here are you?"
" No just moved in some time ago,"
" Look down please," I did as he asked and gasped out loud, I was standing on blood,
" What?"
" A massacre happened at this place some time ago," before he could continue Marcel came out from one of the corridors as he looked at me in surprise.
" Elena, what are you doing here?" What is Marcel doing here? I thought alarmed, Play it cool.
" Marcel, it is a public place is it not."
" Well it is but it is close." Marcel said," You know Rebekah don't you," he said advancing towards me, he is going to compel me, I realized
" Umm," I pretended to think," Well I will say we are acquaintances, although she is a lovely person." Marcel chuckled at that, I was running out of time so I immediately turned to the other man,
" And you are sir,"
" Father Kiren," he replied,
" Father Kiren I am sorry for disturbing you I won't be long just need to light my candles and say some prayers just give me five minutes."
" Take your time," he said as I saw him send a warning glance towards Marcel, I did what I had come to do and then got into my car and rushed to pick up the witch but not before calling Rebekah.
THIRD-PERSON POV
Rebekah hurried her footsteps as she moved towards the attic and breathed a sigh of relief as she saw the coffin placed in a room,
" Thank God Elena," she muttered as she went or at least tried to go in the cabin, before a force stopped her, she looked at her brother Elijah and suddenly found herself somewhere else,
" What the bloody hell?" she said on finding herself in an unfamiliar yet seen place,
" Rebekah, language please," Elijah's voice said from behind her, she rushed toward him as the brother and sister embraced,
" Elijah. What is all this?"
" You don't remember. " Elijah said as he gave her his hand and both the siblings walked together.
" You and I went to the Oprah house together, it was your first foray back in New Orleans society after Klaus removed the dagger from you, it is the memory only you and I share, also I need to know that it is not another one of Davina's tricks."
" How are you even awake."
" Davina withdrew the dagger, unaware that doing so even once would negate its power. A few hours and I shall be as good as new."
" So put me back into the attic and we can find a way to get you out."
" I am afraid, I am not ready to leave yet Rebekah. This girl Davina she is quite curious, willful too. Soon I shall be able to speak to her and propose a truce of some kind. If we could end this war between the vampire and the witches, we will be able to eliminate the threat to Elena and the baby. Perhaps then Niklaus and her entire family could finally know peace."
" Babies,"
" Pardon."
" They are twins, one boy, and one girl."
" That's great, in the meantime, however, I need you to look after Elena, she is our family. So I need her and her unborn children, to fall underneath our protection. Swear to me, Rebekah." Elijah said, raising his glass and Rebekah found herself back in the attic as she said her voice full of emotion,
" I swear."
Elena and Agnes eventually pulled up to an old-looking cabin and seeing that Elena said in a disbelieving voice, "That is a doctor's office?" she asked.
"Dr. Page is only this far out because Marcel's men kept terrorizing her patients," Agnes explained. "Go. She won't bite," she said again in a reassuring voice.
Elena got out of the car, looking around, This place was not right, her senses practically screamed at herself, as she walked slowly to the cabin. Had she waited any longer she would have heard Agnes dial a number and say,
" Send them in now and tell them to do it quickly."
Elena cautiously turned the doorknob and slightly stepped in. Dr. Page as it turned out was an elderly woman, with blonde hair and blue eyes, she for a second reminded Elena of Elizabeth Forbes, but she quickly shook out the comparison out of her head. She was waiting for her by the reception desk. She brought us into the examination room and told me to lay on the bed as she got the stuff for the ultrasound ready.
Elena took a deep breath to calm herself down every single nerve in my body was telling her that something was wrong. She more than now wished her mother to be here with her holding her hand. She had always wanted to have kids of her own and had imagined it plenty of times in her own head but whatever they were that were not at all similar to what was happening to her now. Dr. Page put the jelly on my stomach, and it was cold as she ran the scanner over her stomach.
"Your children's heart rate is perfect," she said as she lifted the instrument off of her stomach.
"I knew it would be," Elena said smiling, " They both are strong." Dr. Page handed Elena a paper towel as she began wiping off her stomach before sitting up. Elena quickly grabbed her phone and texted Rebekah, There is something wrong here. Come soon. she also sends her location to her. In the process of gathering her clothes, the sleeve of Elena's cardigan slipped down, and Dr. Page caught sight of the birthmark on her shoulder.
"That's a unique birthmark," the doctor told Elena suddenly, who adjusted her cardigan so that it was covering her shoulder again and quickly put on her bracelet
"We're pretty much done here, right?" Elena asked as she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. She pulled it out and noticed that It was a text from Rebekah.
I am on my way.
"Your blood pressure is a bit high, I've got something for it," Dr. Page said, and Elena felt herself freeze in her tracks, it did not help matters that she saw guilt flash in the doctor's eyes as she said that to her. She looked down on her phone and dialed Matt's number,
" Yes, hello Rebekah.' Agnes' head snapped towards her as soon as she mentioned Rebekah's name,
" Yes, I am at the doctor's clinic. "
" Elena is that you," Matt said, from the phone.
" Yes, what about Davina? Wait you know where she is."
" Davina who?" Matt said again,
" Well I would say it's good for the witches, you are on your way. That's great."
" What? Elena, it's me, Matt."
" Okay bye," Elena said as she cut the phone. In the distance, she heard the sound of a wolf howling and the shutting of the car's door.
Dr. Page walked in at that exact moment, a small cup of water in one hand and an even smaller pill holder in the other.
Elena said, "Wait, just tell me the name of that medicine, I am allergic to a lot of substances, and can you give me something for my headache,"
Dr. Page frowned for a second as she looked down at the medicine. "Well, I am too, truth be told. I will give you something for the headache." Elena's pulse quickened as she saw three or four men walk into the clinic and talk to Agnes.
" Doctor, May I open the window, I am suffocating," Elena said as she took the key and unlocked the window, the lady was too busy to prevent her from doing so. Elena opened the window and from the corner of her eyes saw Dr. Phil coming towards her, she ducked out of the way and grabbed the doctor's arm, and banged her head on the table, and slamming the dagger she always carried with herself in her back before running for the door, shutting it and locking it as fast as she saw the men charge towards her. She jumped out of the window and charged down the forest running as fast as she ever had in her life.
Elena charged forward into the wilderness it will be less difficult to find her there, she rushed forward as she saw that there was some kind of lake over there and after that a small house, without thinking she dived into the water swimming with all her might hoping to reach the other end and she did reached there and claimed out of the lake and hid behind the house taking a deep breath to calm herself down. She was calm for some time before she heard the sound of splashing water and looked to see two men who had come over there to search for her.
Elena looked around and saw a wooden stick lying there, and thank god it was pointed and a steel rod, she picked the steel one in one hand and the wooden one in another, before carefully positioning herself at the side of the cottage the men thankfully came from she positioned the wooden stick and stabbed it in the man's stomach, as he let out a pained shout, the other came toward me and she dodged abandoning her weapon along with it. These men were warlocks, not fighters, and were simply depending on their strength, Elena came back up and deserved a swift kick to the man on the head all the while thanking Alaric over and over in her head before she leaped on him while he was distracted and chocked him with one hand while her other searched for the arrow he had and on reaching it she put it in his shoulder, he would have howled in pain if not for the fact that he had fainted from the lack of oxygen, she removed her hand immediately and leaned down to check if he was still alive and thanked God he was.
" I have to say, I am impressed. Never thought you had it in you." Rebekah said as she looked at Elena who got up,
" Well, not really the damsel in distress, How did you find me?"
"Juliet's text got me halfway, vamp hearing did the rest," She answered quickly. "Who are they?"
"Witches, warlocks, whatever, and terrible fighters"Elena answered as she and Rebekah looked all around them for any more signs of danger.
Suddenly, more figures holding flashlights came into view. "There are more of them," Rebekah stated, and she turned to Elena. "You need to run!"
"And leave you alone!" Elena protested.
" Run" Elena hesitated before running forward, hoping to reach her car
"If I had a dollar for every problem my family has dragged me into," Rebekah muttered, before turning around only to be hit by an arrow.
Before Elena could get too far, she heard Rebekah grunt in pain and immediately turned around realizing her mistake too late as another arrow impaled her shoulder The guys had caught sight of her, and she tried to run before they shot another arrow at her. Elena screamed in pain as it lodged itself onto the side of her neck. She instantly started feeling lightheaded at the blood loss and heard ringing in her ears as her knees gave out, and she collapsed to the ground fainting.
Rebekah grunted in pain when she woke up as she removed the two arrows from her heart, she slowly got up her body protesting from the movement. She looked around to see mangled bodies placed beside her, " Elena, Elena." she screamed searching for the doppelganger. Rebekah searched for Elena far and wide before she eventually called Klaus,
" What do you mean she is missing?" Klaus said,
" What do you think I mean? There is blood and bodies everywhere, someone ripped this lot to shreds and there is no pregnant girl anywhere around here." Rebekah replied.
" Keep looking I am on my way," Klaus said and canceled the phone. Rebekah sighed and began to search the forest, again. It was when she was looking in the doctor's cabin that Klaus appeared.
" Well, you abandoned your quest for power to help your family, What happened taking an off day," Rebekah said to him.
" Who took her Rebekah?" Klaus asked
" I don't know?"
" What do you mean you don't know? Then who killed her attackers."
" I don't know, I had an arrow in my heart. It wasn't Elena who killed them, then" Rebekah suddenly went silent when she heard the howl of wolves,
" Lovely, perhaps her cousins will know where she is." She said as both she and Klaus went outside, to see Stefan Salvatore coming towards them, Elena in his arms,
" What happened, mate?" Klaus said as he rushed towards Elena, Rebekah following not soon after. Elena gasped as she pulled at Stefan's sleeve a clear indication to put her down, before standing on her legs. Stefan meanwhile was still supporting her, Klaus looked her up and down, toying with her tattered, blood-soaked clothes. "What happened? Tell me what happened."
"I don't know. After I got shot in the shoulder, I blacked out." Elena replied, and Klaus looked at Stefan,
" There were some wolves, who were attacking those witches, I found Elena half dead walking here, already poison in her veins," Stefan said, and at the alarmed look from both the originals," Don't worry I gave her the antidote I always carry one with myself. It was wolfsbane, the poison. Although her other wounds healed miraculously."
"You've completely healed," Klaus said. "There's not a scratch on you. How?"
" I don't know?" Elena said looking exhausted.
"But you're only human," Klaus continued "How could you have healed that fast?" She moved away from Stefan's arms and Klaus's inspection range to the stairs and Rebekah came towards her to wrap a hand around her and helped her to the poarch. "I think it's the babies," Rebekah offered. "The vampire blood-Klaus's blood, in your system, can heal any wound. Your own children healed you."
"How did you escape?" Rebekah asked. "Outnumbered, unarmed? And you're only human, for God's sake. Those men were ripped to shreds."
" You didn't kill anyone did you, Stefan? " Elena asked.
" No not among them."
" So it must be the wolves. The other night, there was this wolf that was watching me. Sabine told me that it was drawn to me. I think it was trying to protect me." Elena said.
Klaus growled. "The witches were supposed to protect you. When I get my hands on Sophie Deveraux-"
Elena cut off his threat. "It wasn't Sophie. It was Agnes."
"Fine!" He said, throwing his hands up in the air. "Agnes, Sophie, it's all the same to me. I'll slaughter the lot of them."
"Not if Elijah gets there first," Rebekah said.
" Elijah, so it was the correct place," Elena said.
" It was," Rebekah said.
" How did you find me, Stefan?" Elena asked.
" Bonnie had a vision about you that something very powerful and something that was abnormal in your stomach. The only conclusion that we could find that somehow you were pregnant, your location was cloaked I assume by a few witches but then you called Matt, and he managed to trace your location digitally. I was passing by this area, Damon has gotten himself in a mess, I decided to check up on you and then I heard your scream." Stefan said and shrugged after that, Elena gulped down but said nothing as she looked rather hands," and from the look of things it is Klaus,"
" That it is mate," Klaus said.
" I will be on my way then," Stefan said," Bye Elena."
" Bye Stefan," Elena said, before looking up," And thanks for saving my life again,"
" My pleasure," Stefan said, before going away.
" Can we go back home now," Elena said," I will sleep for a few days."
" Let's go," Rebekah said. Elena prepared to get up before her legs failed. She braced herself for the harsh impact of hitting dirt and rocks, but Klaus was on her before she knew what was going on. He tucked one arm underneath her legs and wrapped his other one around his back so that he was carrying her bridal style.
"I've got you, love," He whispered into her ear. "I've got you," he said again as the three of them returned to the place of their current residence.
So did you guys liked the Stefan part or thought it was unnecessary. Do let me know, please.
