You did what?
(Marcus P.O.V)
I missed Phoebe. Her hair. Her looks. Her interest in history. She was…amazing. I loved her. I could resist her sense of humour.
How could I not have hidden those photos more carefully? This is what started this whole charade. And the look of her face when I told her that I was a vampire…it was disappointment.
Matthew would kill me if he learnt of this. I wanted it to be secret, but it was worth noting Ysabeau.
I pulled up in front of Sept Tour, my family's ancestral home. I saw grand mere standing just up the steps.
"You haven't been here in a long while Marcus," she greeted, coming down elegantly. I could hear her voice right out the window. I opened the door and stepped out, coming to greet her. I greeted her with a kiss.
"It's good to have you back here Marcus," she said.
"It's good to be here. There's been…stuff going on," I zoned out for a sec, thinking of Phoebe. "How are Sarah and Emily?"
"They're…a little agitated. But who could blame them? They've never been in a house with vampires before,"
Our face suddenly changed when her eyebrows furrowed. "What is that strange smell on you? It smells…like roses. And…human," as she spoke that word, her voice turned dangerously cold.
"Phoebe Taylor,"
"So…you found a hooker?" she asked.
I scrunched my lips. I hadn't prepared for this.
"And…"
I didn't say anything.
"Your heart…is beating faster,"
I sighed, hanging my head down. "I told her I was a vampire. And about creatures hiding in plain sight,"
"You did what?!" she bellowed.
Minutes later we were sitting in the front room in front of the unlit fire.
"It just happened around. One night she was looking around my house in Oxford and she found pictures of me, and you from decades ago. I had to tell her,"
"Why couldn't you have just hidden those pictures in a safer place?" she hissed, treating me like a kid.
I sighed, disappointed in myself, disappointed in letting my feelings cloud my judgement.
She didn't say anything. She stood up and turned away.
"I'm sorry Ysabeau!" I exclaimed standing up. "Alright. She didn't believe me anyway. She just left. She didn't believe a single word I said. As a matter of fact, I doubt she'll tell anyone,"
Ysabeau seemed to calm down a little, but her back remained turned.
"It's just not Phoebe," I stepped up. "Strange things have been happening in Oxford,"
"Yes I know," she swirled round, anxiety colouring her face over disappointment. "There are murders happening around Oxford. Gerbert came here. He told me so himself,"
"Gerbert…came here?" I breathed.
"He wanted me to join his cause. But I refused. He'd stop to think for a moment that I would join him after how he used his daughter to bribe Matthew,"
