CHAPTER 7
After a few weeks, Henry was reading the newspaper and something called his attention. There was a missing person note and he sighed impatiently.
"Maurice, did you read the newspaper today?"
"Yes sir. You and Mr. Campbell seemed to be great friends. It is a pity that people could not find him yet."
Henry nodded, but his annoyance was much bigger because no one knew what his friend did to him. After having lunch, he received a letter from the police department and it said that the detective wanted to talk to him, since he was the last person who saw Alan.
"Maurice I'm going out now, I will be back in the evening."
"All right sir. Today I was watering the flowers and saw that the ones that were planted recently have died. Can I plant other flowers there?" asked Maurice.
"No, you don't have to do this. Please, leave it the way it is."
When Henry arrived at the police station, he looked around and saw a few people talking, and next to them was Elise, who seemed to be waiting for someone. She looked at Henry and greeted him.
"Hello Henry. Long time no see."
"Hi Elise. How are you?"
"I'm doing fine, but I miss my husband so much. I don't know what happened to him and nobody knows anything. Alan was a great person, he was taking care of his mother and always cared about me. I can't believe this is happening."
Henry wasn't even paying much attention to what Elise was saying. He avoided looking at her, his arms were crossed and he nodded at everything she said. He couldn't believe that he was wasting time at the police station, since Alan was a bastard and no one would ever thank him for getting rid of such a person. But he tried to comfort her.
"I'm so sorry Elise. I'm sure that he will be back soon."
Elise noticed Henry's strange behavior, but she said nothing. Several minutes later, he was leaving the police station when Elise suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Henry, can I talk to you, please?"
"Yes. What happened?" asked Henry.
"When we met earlier, you seemed to know something about Alan. Are you hiding something from me?" said Elise.
"What are you talking about? I don't know anything." replied Henry.
"I know that you are hiding something! Please tell me, Alan is your friend and I'm desperately trying to find him."
"Elise, stop! You are out of your mind and you should stop looking for your husband because he will never come back."
"What? What are you saying, Henry? Is he dead?"
"How could you say something like that!? Jesus, Elise. He probably left you for another woman. Who knows!?"
Without any other explanation, Henry walked away and he could hear that Elise was calling him from a distance, but he didn't look back. Hearing people talking about how good Alan was, made him want to scream but a look of great bitterness swept across his face. He desperately wanted to go home and when he arrived, his servant was doing something in the garden.
"Maurice! Stop what you are doing now! I said that you didn't need to plant other flowers in this place. Don't you know how to follow orders!?"
"I'm so sorry sir. I was just cleaning the placeā¦" replied Maurice.
"It doesn't matter! I pay you to obey my orders!" Henry shouted.
His servant stepped back and looked at him with a startled expression. After all, why was Henry so angry about those flowers? After entering the house, he went upstairs to his office and he couldn't think straight, but when his eyes looked into the corner of the office, a familiar figure caught his eye. As he got closer, Henry recognized Dorian and was happy to know that his friend was there.
