Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from Twilight or Shadowhunters/Mortal Instruments. With the possibility of cameo appearances from shows like The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. Writer's Notes: Thank you Ashes, Luna, Siobhan, Navywife, Roxhall, Sassy, and Zukie for your reviews! Bella is keeping her options open. She's been burned before, and well, she's protecting herself. Alec and Bella isn't a permanent thing. Alec is greatly confused and he's at a point in his life, where things aren't just making sense. I love Dean. I love him a lot, and honestly, it hurt me to write him this way, but it was a necessary jab for Bella, and for Dean. Caleb died as a uh oh moment. Demons spawned, started causing chaos, and Caleb got caught in the crossfire unfortunately. Demons are drawn to Bella and Clary. Valentine has something of theirs that is allowing the demons to find them. Jasper won't be a possibility unfortunately for this story, and I'm sorry to disappoint. Jace is still in the mix of things, and I've tossed around that idea, I'm not sure about it, since I have down JacexBella in the past. I'm looking for something new. Thank you Ashes, and welcome to AoL! I always imagine Bella as a different actress, because I think Kristen Stewart was directed horribly for the film, but I do like Kristen Stewart as an actress in general, just not in Twilight. I like to picture Bella as either Olivia Cooke, or even Shailene Woodley honestly. Both actresses, are strong female leads that could have pulled off Bella, but then again, they could have been at the end of a bad director as well. I think Twilight needed a better director. There! I said it! As always, I appreciate all the feedback and reviews and all the amazing support! Don't forget to follow, favorite, and leave more reviews! Enjoy!
Bella's arm was throbbing as it was healing, blood was dried on her arm now, but she didn't appear to notice much. Clary sat Simon down, and was keeping him calm, while Bella was focusing on what was happening. She was standing next to Alec with Jace on the other side of her. They studied the screen in front of them. The wards were holding, and the demons retreated again. It was as if they were just there to gauge response times, or to test someone.
"It's quiet now." Alec murmured, and then glanced up at Magnus when he whirled over. "How is your club?"
"It'll survive. Lucas is doing cleanup, and I have a few other warlocks, making sure that the patrons that witnessed everything, have clean memories by morning. There were a few…casualties, but we'll cover it up. Like usual when a demon attacks." Magnus explained.
Alec nodded, and sighed. "I don't know what they're after. Demons are not this organized."
Bella's head hurt suddenly, and she put a hand to it, wincing a little at the pain. Alec's hand steadied her as she wobbled.
"You need to sit down. Your arm isn't fully healed." Alec was concerned. She took a big hit to her arm tonight and she was still wearing the tight club dress, and she was about to pop out of her dress. She really needed a shower, and a change of clothes.
Bella shook her head lightly. "No. I'm fine." She frowned, and then the pain hit her again in her head, but not as severe. Don't fight me, and it won't hurt. The voice said in her head. "Well, that's inconvenient." She muttered.
"What is?" Alec asked.
Bella sighed, closing her eyes. "I'm…I think I might just go and change and come back." She said and pulled away from Alec.
Alec nodded. "Okay. Do you need help getting to-"
"I'll be okay." Bella said quickly, and then started out of command, glancing over to Clary and Simon. "I'll be right back. I have to change." She said, and Clary nodded, while Simon still just stared around the command center, still in a daze.
Bella got to the hallway when she got lightheaded again. She swayed a little, and then there were hands on her. She looked over at Dean, who was suddenly beside her. "I'm okay."
"You're about to fall over." He grumbled.
"I'm not." Bella said and pulled away from him. If you accept me fully, this won't happen. The voice said again. "I don't know who you are." She muttered.
Dean frowned. "I know. Tonight…I don't have an excuse for it. But I would like to talk about it."
Bella looked at Dean. He thought that she was talking to him. That benefited her for the time being. "It's fine. I'm not worried about it." She said, trying to dismiss it. She walked closer to her room. "Honestly, Dean, I just met you. We had…we had some fun, but I'm not going to hold you to some standard. I do barely know you. We work together. It's okay. Just forget about it." She said and turned towards her door.
Dean felt bad still. "I like having fun with you." He said, reaching a hand out to her and putting it on her hip, and then he was behind her, his hard chest pressed against her back. "We can…keep having fun."
Bella closed her eyes. She wasn't going to subject herself to another Edward, situation. "Not now." She said and opened her door, and closed it quickly. She let out a shaky breath, and then went to her bathroom, and looked at herself in the mirror. She decided on a shower, to wash herself up. She had her blood on her, dried, but it was still there, and she needed to be clean. "I really hope you're not some weird, peeping tom or something, and can see me right now." She muttered. The voice didn't respond, so she sighed and got in the shower, letting the hot water wash over her. She sighed with relief, as the hot water pelted her muscles. After a couple moments, she got out, and wrapped her towel around herself, before she walked out to her room to find clothes. There was a knock at her door, and she sighed.
She opened it and expected Dean to be standing there, but instead it was Alec. "Oh."
"I wanted to check on you." Alec murmured. "You kept your calm out there." His blue eyes stayed on her face, but he already saw that she was there in a towel, and that stirred something inside him, that was never stirred before.
"I'm okay," she said and then realized she was still in a towel. "Um, just come in." She said, not wanting the whole Institute to see her in a towel. Alec hesitated but he came in anyways.
"How's your arm?" He asked, and she moved her arm, showing him the scar that was there now.
Alec touched her arm barely, turning it over to look at the scar. "That's unusual."
"What is?"
"The scar. I wonder if it's healed all the way?" He glanced down at her healing rune, that was sat on her chest. It was done right, but he noticed the way the water beaded on her skin, and he just wanted to touch her, see if her skin was really that smooth.
Bella caught him staring. "Are you okay?" She asked, and he looked up at her.
"Oh…yeah, I was just…" what was he doing? He reached out and stroked the back of his hand over her cheek, and Bella stood still, her eyes staring into his.
"What do you want?" Bella murmured.
Alec wasn't sure what he wanted. He wasn't attracted to women. This was confusing him. Why was this happening? It was a secret that he kept to himself. No one ever saw him with a woman. There had been a few rumors before. What if…Bella was an exception? He leaned in suddenly, dipping his face close to hers. His lips brushed hers gently.
Bella wasn't sure what was happening, but she didn't move away from him, or stop him. She tilted her face up, angling better for him, and then he pressed his lips to hers fully. She moved her hands up to circle around his neck instinctively. The towel slipped between them, when she did this, and his hands touched the bare skin at her waist, as he closed the distance between them. His hands were cooler against her hot skin, from the shower. The kiss turned deeper, his tongue swept in over hers, and this got a little response from Bella, her moan against his lips was slight.
Alec felt a little dizzy, his heart thundering in his chest, at the thought of her naked body against his, and he noticed that she was in fact, completely naked, and this aroused him. He moved with her now, testing the waters more, his hand sliding up her body to her breast, his hands cupping around her. It was odd. It wasn't as if he had anything to compare to. He had never dared act on his feelings before, but this was different. This was how it was supposed to be. Bella's hands crept down his chest to his pants, and she unfastened his belt. It registered in his head what was happening and he pulled back to look at her.
"I've never…." Alec murmured.
"You've never been with a woman?" Bella quizzed.
"No."
Bella's hands stopped and she looked up at him. "We don't have to…if you don't want to."
Alec swallowed, thinking about the implication of the two of them being caught together at all like this. What his duty was a the leader of the institute here, while his parents were in Idris. He had a lot of responsibility. He couldn't afford to make a mess of things. "I do." The words slipped from his lips, opposite of what he was thinking in his head.
"Your sure?" Bella asked again, seeing the confusion and hesitation in him.
"I'm sure." He murmured, and crashed his lips to hers again.
Bella wasn't sure why she was doing this. She thought about Dean, thought about him with the blonde at the club, not even a day after sleeping with her. Memories of Edward resurfaced, and she didn't like that. But she couldn't judge Dean. She didn't know him all that well. They had just met. Maybe she was just a slut now. Maybe she just couldn't help herself. But she knew better. She knew that she could help herself, she just didn't want to. She wasn't going to care anymore. She was tired of being so reserve. She wanted to have fun while she could. Who knew if the world would end tomorrow. They moved towards the bed, and they fell together on the bed, as Alec made it out of his pants. Bella's hand stroked over his hard cock, and he was very hard. He was average, if Bella had to guess, and so her hand slid over him with ease, and he groaned, pushing against her hand.
Bella moved with him, getting him on his back, and he just looked up at her, as she eased up, positioning him at her entrance before sliding down over his shaft. It was a sensation Alec had never experienced before, and he wasn't sure what to do. He let her sit over him completely. Her warmth enveloped him and he shuddered. She watched his face as she moved her hips, stroking him slow, and he moaned, obvious pleasure appearing on his face. She picked up her pace, feeling her own orgasm on the rise, as she pushed herself, and him towards an end. It was going to be fast, but they needed fast right now. She felt her belly tighten as the precursor to her final peak, and she felt him swell tight and he moaned, the feeling overwhelming him. He felt like he was going to erupt, and when she came, her fluids slid over him, wetting him completely, and then he moaned again, feeling the start of his own orgasm filling his shaft. She lifted off of him, the look on Alec's face, enough to signal her. She moved quickly, her mouth covering his head, and sucking him in, as he erupted, his seed layering her tongue and he moaned again, his hands fisting in her damp hair.
"Oh god…Bella." He murmured, as he finished.
She leaned up, wiping her mouth a little and smiled at him. "You okay?"
"I…I don't think I can move after that." Alec said, and looked at her. He was still so confused, why she was able to gather that response from him.
Bella offered a smile and then it faltered. "Alec."
"Hmm?"
"I know that…I know that you're in a difficult position, so I don't expect there to be a next time." Bella wasn't sure how to phrase it.
Alec sat up, leaning back on his elbows. He looked at how beautiful she was. "There can't be a next time." He murmured. He knew that there couldn't be anything more. This was…he wasn't sure what this was.
Bella nodded. "We should get back, before they send out a search party."
Alec agreed, sliding out of bed, and pulling his clothes back on quickly. "You should get rest."
"I'll be okay." Bella said, and smiled. "Thank you for checking on me."
Alec smiled back, and then left her room quickly, letting her get dressed.
Back in the command center, Alec took his place, and Magnus came up beside him. "Alexander."
"Yes Magnus?" Alec said without looking at him at first, but when Magnus didn't say anything, he turned his attention to him.
"Your pants." Magnus made a subtle nod to Alec's zipper.
Alec looked down, noticing that his fly was undone, he zipped it quickly. "Thanks." He muttered.
Bella joined them a while later, dressed more comfortably. She went to Simon, who was sitting alone, while Clary was changing. "Hey. You okay?" She said and leaned against he table that he was sitting at.
Simon looked up at her and then he just leaned forward, his head resting on her stomach, and his arms went around her. "Bella. Don't make me forget."
Bella frowned and then took a hand and ran it through his hair gently. "Simon…"
Dean returned to the command center to see Bella and Simon so close. He didn't say anything, but he turned his attention to Alec. "Okay boss man. Patrols are set up. I have Sam running point with Stefan, that way those of us that was in the action, can rest, and then take next patrol."
Alec nodded. "I appreciate it." He said and looked over at Bella and Simon. "We'll get him a room for the night and-"
"He can stay with me." Bella said. "He's asleep now." She murmured, nodding down at him. "I'm not going to bed tonight, so he can just use my bed. It's too late to try and bother with a new room."
Alec swallowed and then nodded. "Okay."
Magnus moved to Bella. "I'll take him there. Hand him over." He said, making a motion with hiss hand, and he picked Simon up, cradling him like he was a child, and Simon still stayed asleep. He walked away with the unconscious Simon to Bella's room.
Bella's phone rang, and she pulled it out of her pocket to look at it. Jasper was calling her. She put the phone up to her ear. "Jazz."
"You okay darlin'?" Jasper's Texan twang sounded in her ear.
"I am. Are you and Pete good?"
"We are. We're staying with the coven at their hotel while we're in town. We saw an increase in demon activity a while ago. They ignored other downworlders. I didn't know if you were still at the institute." Jasper explained.
Bella sighed. "We were at Pandemonium when all hell broke loose, but it's under control now. I'll see the both of you tomorrow?"
"Of course." Jasper said. "Darlin'?"
"Yes?"
"The vampires here are nightwalkers. So be extra careful in the night around here." Jasper warned.
Bella nodded. "Got it. Be careful." She said and then she hung up, sighing. She felt a wave of dizziness hit her, and she frowned. "Not again." She muttered quietly to herself. Bella, let me in. "I am." She sighed, and Alec frowned at her.
"Bella, are you okay?" Alec asked.
"Yeah. Just talking to myself." She said with a little laugh.
Dean heard her talking to something earlier in the club, and he was confused as to who she was talking to. It worried him, but he kept quiet for now.
Alec wasn't sure he bought that, but he dropped it for now. "Alright, everyone knows their rotation. Go get some rest."
Bella nodded and went towards the kitchen, she hadn't realized that she hadn't eaten yet, and so went to get something light. When she got to the kitchen, it was empty and quiet. Bella. She sighed, ignoring the voice. I'm here to help you. The voice said, and she sighed again. "How are you here to help?" She murmured to herself. "You're making me look crazy." She said and grabbed a meal bar from the cabinet, and opened it. She sat down at the bar, feeling the exhaustion rush over her. It had been nonstop since she has been here. Demons were not backing down for long, and right when they thought maybe they could just have a night off, they really couldn't and now Simon was pulled into this world.
"Are you okay?" Jace's voice sounded from the doorway. Clary went to check in on Simon, and Alec disappeared to his office, and Dean even disappeared. It was late, nearing midnight already.
"Is that a trick question?" Bella said as she took a bite of the meal bar.
"It's not a trick question." Jace said simply, and then walked over towards the bar. Sometimes she forgot he was British, and his accent took her by surprise sometimes.
Bella looked at him. "Do I look like I'm not okay?"
Jace leaned against the bar. "It's debatable." He tried a grin. "You're working really hard to be a Shadowhunter. You didn't want this."
"Well, I had a nice cozy like, demon-free, before, so…" She took another bite of the meal bar. She didn't mean to sound so snappy, but she was resentful to the Institute, resentful to her real parents, resentful to the Clave. She just wanted a normal happy life. She had already endured so much, she just wanted to be successful in her career, maybe have a family one day. Forget having a family in this nonsense world. Your children live a life of solitude, away from the real world, only to train to be the same thing you were.
"I'm sorry." Jace said. "I wish I could…make time go backwards for you. So, maybe you- "
"It was inevitable. I'm the daughter of Valentine Morgenstern. It was bound to happen. I would have found out eventually regardless of if I ran into you or Alec. So, there's nothing to apologize for." Bella said and finished the meal bar.
Jace nodded. "I'm still sorry that you're going through this."
Bella make a hmph noise. "You weren't sorry when you drug me here. Drug Clary here, and now Simon."
"I didn't have a choice." Jace murmured.
"You didn't have to be an ass about it." Bella retorted.
Jace nodded. He didn't. "I'm sorry for that too."
"Well, I accept your apology, but only because I have to live with you for the rest of my life. However short that may be." Bella grumbled.
"I wouldn't let anything terrible happen to you." Jace said.
"You can't protect me. Jace, when the time comes, and it means saving my sister, my real mother…I will sacrifice myself." Bella said and looked at him. "I don't have much, but family. I want them to live on, and be free. If it means they're safe, I will do it."
Those were heavy words, and Jace believed her. Bella was incredible from start to finish, and he couldn't help but become somewhat infatuated with her. "Still. I'll try my best. Perhaps I'll sacrifice myself as well."
"There's no need for that."
"I'm a Shadowhunter. We all would sacrifice ourselves." Jace said, and then glanced up when Alec entered the kitchen. "Everything okay?"
Alec nodded. "Yes. For now. Mother isn't coming quite yet, but she's curious about Clary and Bella. It seems that the two can create new runes. "
Bella shook her head, standing. "She can keep being curious. I don't know how this happens, and we may never know." It's because you're more angelic than they are. She made a hmph noise, in response to the voice. It's true. She didn't respond, but she looked to Alec, and his eyes softened when he looked at her.
"I don't want to know how you can do it. " Alec responded and looked to Jace. "You're up for patrol. Go get Sam and Tuck." He said and Jace nodded and left. Alec looked at Bella. "You look tired."
"I'll be fine."
"You need rest." Alec insisted and Bella sighed. He reached out to her, cupping her face gently with his hand. "You…somehow do something to me inside." He murmured.
Bella looked at Alec. His blue eyes were pools of swirling confusion and mystery. "What do I do to you?"
"I've never told this to anyone before…I've never been with a woman…before you, because I'm not attracted to women. I'm attracted to-"
"Men." Bella finished for him. She nodded and offered a smile. "I get it."
"But your eyes…you just…"Alec murmured. "This would get messy. I don't think I can…"
"It's okay Alec. I understand." She offered him a smile. "You need rest to." She said and stood. "I'll see you later." She said and walked out of the kitchen and headed towards command. She sat down in a chair and just watched the main screen, until she dozed off.
Dean found her sleeping in a chair, and he smiled a little. He walked over to her and set his hand on her shoulder gently. They still had a few hours before their patrol. She should get in a bed and rest before then.
Bella woke, looking up at Dean. "Oh. Is it patrol time? I must have dozed off," she muttered with a frown.
"Not yet, but you should get in a bed." Dean said.
Bella shook her head. "I'm okay." She rubbed her hands over her face, and then through her hair. She blew out a breath. "It's quiet in here."
"Well, most of the others are resting. We don't work twenty-four seven." Dean said. "Come on," he said and took her hand.
Bella withdrew it, and stood. "It's okay. I'll…uh, go work out." She offered a smile, and went to the training room. She did some light stretches and a light workout, to keep her blood pumping.
Dean hated that he violated something there. He knew better, and yet, he did it anyways. She said everything was fine, but he didn't quite believe her.
After an hour, Damon appeared in the doorway to the training room. "Hmm. You're not resting."
"Thank you, captain, obvious." Bella said and put her staff up, and looked over at Damon. "Why aren't you resting?"
"I just woke up. We have an hour until patrol." Damon said with a nod. "Are you always this feisty?"
"Maybe." Bella said and smiled. "Thanks for yesterday."
"What for?"
"My healing rune." Bella said and she walked over towards him.
Damon smiled. "Well, you would have done the same, and have before, so."
Dean appeared then. "Somethings wrong."
"What's wrong?" Bella said and Damon and she followed him to the command center.
"Sammy missed the meet time with Jace, and he's not responding. His tracking rune has been deactivated." Dean said quickly.
Bella frowned. "That's not good at all. Did anyone alert Alec?"
"Yeah." Alec said, while walking into command. "I have a backup team dispatched. Magnus is also on the look out for him, and the Whitlock brothers, since they're the only daywalkers I know."
"Come on Damon, grab Caroline, let's head out on patrol now and-"
"I'm coming with," Dean grumbled.
Alec stopped him. "Dean, Sam is your brother, you need to keep a straight head, so I need you here."
"Alec, I know he's my brother, and I know what I'm doing. I'm not going to do anything stupid. I am thinking straight." Dean snapped back at Alec.
Bella pursed her lips. "Alec, I'll watch him. It'll be okay."
Alec stared at Bella, and then nodded. "Fine. Stay with Bella Dean. Damon, you've got point."
Damon nodded. "Will do. I'll grab Caroline and meet you guys on the bottom." He said and jogged off to get Caroline.
Bella turned to Dean. "Don't do anything stupid."
"I won't." he grumbled, as they got on the elevator. He was clenching and unclenching his fist, which was a nervous tick. He hated that his brother was missing, and hated more than anything, that he let it happen.
Bella looked over at him, and then she slid her hand into his, holding it tight. "Hey. He's going to be okay." She murmured.
Dean looked over at her and nodded, squeezing her hand once before he pulled his hand from hers.
When they made it out of the institute, Jasper and Pete were waiting outside. "I caught his scent earlier around here, and we did a full sweep. It's an older scent because he probably left out earlier with Jace on patrol." Jasper said.
"He's smart, he doesn't just get blindsided." Dean said, and looked up when Damon and Caroline joined.
"Okay, Jasper, can you sweep through with Dean and Bella, and Pete, come with me and Care." Damon said. "Bella, you have point."
Dean turned and looked at Damon. "But- "
"Alec's words. Not mine." Damon said. "I suggest you follow them." He said and then nodded to Pete. "Let's head East. Stefan is going to meet up by the bridge."
Bella nodded and looked at Jasper. "Lead the way."
Jasper nodded and off they went into the night.
[Somewhere on the Water]
"Here's another stray." A man, roughly Jace's size and age, said to Valentine. Valentine was standing, looking out on the water and the twinkling lights of the city. He was bald, and his chocolate eyes seemed nearly black, as he glanced over.
"Thank you, son," Valentine spoke, his voice was crisp, rough. "Jonathan, why don't you take Sam here, to the others." He said and looked back out on the water.
Jonathan nodded, his dark green eyes held the same gleam in them as Valentine's and his dark hair was close to pitch. He nodded, taking Sam, and dragging him off to put with the other Shadowhunters they had managed to snatch.
[Several hours later…]
Bella followed Dean into the command center off the elevator. "Will you just calm down."
"I can't calm down. He's gone Bella. Just gone." Dean roared. His brother was missing.
Alec was used to Dean's anger, but Bella wasn't. "Bella, maybe you-"
"Dean," Bella reached out and grabbed his arm, and he turned, and then suddenly she had him on his knees, his arm behind his back. "I said calm down."
Dean grunted, pain shooting into his shoulder if he struggled. "Okay. I'll calm down." He said, his teeth grit tight.
Bella released him. "We will find Sam. But we have to look at this from another angle. Jasper and Pete are still out there looking. We have patrols all over the city now."
Damon and Caroline stepped in off the elevator next. He already knew that Dean was fired up. He looked over at Alec and just shook his head.
Alec sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Okay. So, Magnus is going to try and do some locator magic, to see if he can't pick up on where Sam could be." He announced.
"Valentine has him." Dean growled.
Dean is right. Valentine does have his brother. The voice spoke. "How would you know?" Bella said outloud, talking to the voice, but Dean thought she was talking to him.
"Who else would have him Bella? He just didn't vanish into thin air." Dean said.
Clary came into the command center, Simon behind her. "Bella, still nothing?"
"No. I can't pick up anything either." Bella responded. Valentine is cloaking his location. "Valentine is cloaking his location." Bella repeated.
Alec nodded. "It seems like that may be what he's doing. He has a warlock working for him, so it's possible that we won't be able to find where he is, unless we draw him out first."
Let me in Bella. Summon me. The voice spoke in her head, and Bella closed her eyes and sighed. "Okay," she said. "How?" She opened her eyes to everyone staring at her. "I'll explain in a minute," She said and turned around. "Tell me how, and I'll do it." She said to the voice. My name is Castiel. Summon me. "Okay, Castiel, I summon you, or whatever, just get here so I don't look like a crazy person." She muttered.
A blinding light filled the room, and the sound of thunder crackled outside the Institute, and then the building shook. When the light faded, there was a man standing in the command center. His dark hair was nearly black, and his eyes were a bright blue, and they shone with a little light until it faded, and his wings tucked in, disappearing from their sight. "I am Castiel."
"Okay, nice to hear you outside my head. Can you explain why I summoned you, and what we're going to do next?"
Castiel nodded, looking around the room, focusing on Clary. "My brother…has he reached out to you?"
Clary blinked a few times. "I don't think so?"
Castiel sighed and then looked to Bella. "I am your angel."
"My angel?"
"I'm sorry, what?" Dean said, looking the most confused. "Angels have not communicated with Shadowhunters for hundreds of years."
Castiel looked at Dean. "That is because there have not been a chosen until now."
"Chosen?" Alec queried.
"Bella and Clary are chosen by the arch angel Raziel. They were chosen at birth. I have always been Bella's angel. I could not access her mind until now." Castiel explained.
"Who's my angel?" Clary asked.
"Malik." Castiel said and sighed. "He is probably slacking on his duties, and will get a stern talking to."
Alec cleared his throat. "Okay. So, you're appearing to us now?"
Castiel nodded. "Bella needs further assistance; I am here to assist. Valentine needs to be stopped. What he is doing risks unleashing Lilith, and Lucifer."
Alec frowned, that was serious. "But the gates to hell should still be closed."
"They are for now, but with Valentine's plans, and the increase in demon activity, the gates to hell won't stay closed for long." Castiel explained.
Bella blew out a breath. "Okay, so where is Valentine?"
"I don't know." Castiel said and looked at Bella. "I'm not my father, I can't see everything. I am also not my brother Raziel. The only other archangel that would know, is missing."
"What do you mean missing?" Clary asked.
"Michael has vanished." Castiel said, looking at her. "But that is not as important as the gates of Hell. We cannot let Lilith or Lucifer free."
Bella looked at Alec. This was a war bigger than they expected, one that they were not prepared for. She was hopeful with the help of an actual angel; they would be able to accomplish more.
