Midightfeather considered not actually approaching Adderstar as she padded closer to the leader's den, but she couldn't do that to her friend. Sunflowerstep was relying and her, desperate to escape camp, and Midightfeather would have live up to those expectations.
"Adderstar?" She asked nervously as she slipped into the leader's den. It was huge, bigger than the apprentices' den on the inside and Midnightfeather was again reminded of how selfish her leader was, "Adderstar?" She repeated, and the leader looked up in shock. It made Midnightfeather feel rather smug at the fact Adderstar's eyes showed emotion for once.
The cold leader quickly shook it off and blinked, "Hm?"
"I was wondering if i could take Sunflowerstep out of camp, just for a quick walk." Midnightfeather was about to add, It's not fair that she's not allowed to venture outside. But she decided against it. There was no need to provoke her leader.
Adderstar's eyes narrowed, "What's in it for you, why would I ever allow you to do that?" Midnightfeather, who was quite taken aback by this question, blinked in surprise. Is the satisfaction of helping a friend enough? She wondered.
"I would be helping out my friend. She's been missing the fresh air." She stated, then instantly regretted it.
Oh, rabbit droppings! I've messed up. I've made her seem like a horrid cat who punishes at the slightest problems, or like a wicked person. And yet, another part of her whispered, So, I've made her seem like what she is?
"Hm." Adderstar's expression conveyed no emotion, "How can I trust you?"
"You can't." Midnightfeather replied sharply, no-longer watching her tongue, and her eyes glinted dangerously but she said nothing else.
Adderstar hummed for a moment, before narrowing her ice-cold eyes. "I'll allow it, as long as you do not do anything to help her. She has her punishment and I ordered that no cat will help her." She finished with a sharp hiss, threatening in some ways. Her eyes shone in a manner that hinted she wouldn't hesitate to punish Midnightfeather in a similar manner.
"Thank you." Midnightfeather replied with a tone just as sharp as before. She slipped out the den with no other words spoken, and padded over towards the shadowy, tree-covered area where her friend was sat, eyes wide with curiosity, and her paws shifted nervously. Midnightfeather had noticed this more and more, she always seemed just the slightest bit nervous.
"What did she say?" Sunflowerstep asked, voice tight with excitement. Midnightfeather grinned.
"She said, 'I'll allow it.'" Her reply was carefully worded, yet she said it in a very high and mighty voice. No need to add in the threat, right? She asked herself before returning her line of vision to her friend. Midnightfeather's silver gaze betrayed no emotion as she jerked her head at the exit, "Coming?"
The golden-and-white she-cat watched Midnightfeather's face for a moment, "Oh- yes, yes!" Sunflowerstep replied, standing up and bounding over to Midnightfeather's side. Purring with amusement, Midnightfeather led the way out of camp and began to weave her way through the trees. Through the canopy of green leaves overhead, she could glimpse parts of the sky, the sun at its highest point, the delicate clouds floating overhead. She began to lose her grasp of reality as her mind wandered to places she hadn't had the nerves to explore before. She ventured through many thoughts, thoughts of many things, but one of the most prominent seemed bold, even for her new, older self. Midnightfeather glanced back at her friend, who was looking around at the trees like a new apprentice, when everything would make a cat excited. Of course she was, it was her first time out in days.
"Sunflowerstep?" Midnightfeather blurted, her voice nervous.
"Hm? Yeah?" Sunflowerstep replied, her voice matching Midnightfeather's own, oblivious of what was to come, but her voice was always like that.
"I- I think we need to rebel."
