Ch7: Life and Death
Millions of years ago…
The earth trembled underneath the two Titan's feet, shaking in terror as they circled around each other, waiting for who would make the first move. Harsh snarls and growls escaped both of their jaws, echoing into the night sky as the harsh winds blew against their indestructible scales. Upon the desolate wasteland they prepared to fight upon, The Prince of all Monsters- Gojira- stood tall and powerful against his foe.
The Prince's enemy was unlike anyone he had faced before, but their species was one Godzilla knew held an infamous reputation for their sadistic cruelty upon others. As tall as the Prince, his foe was stood upright and fierce, showing off his reptilian body and battle-ready posture. But where his maw would be, his mouth was a metallic-like beak filled with deadly teeth.
But the most terrifying aspect of the Prince's foe was the multitudinous amounts of serrated spikes that covered the Kaiju's body. From the sharp fins that extended from his back, to the metallic spines that protruded from his chest. His body seemed to be more spikes than flesh, for the creature even had no claws. Instead, a blood-stained hook grew from his arms and was wielded by the creature with such malicious intent. The Prince further prepared himself for the onslaught that was about to pursue.
His foe's species were one of the few that were actually considered a rival to Godzilla's species; another apex predator. And, unfortunately for the earth, the two species had chosen differing sides in the War.
Exhaling a great amount of air into his body, Godzilla roared a challenge fiercely at his opponent; getting a deafening shriek back in response. Lunging at each other, the ground beneath them shook harshly as the two Titans collided with one another, Godzilla's foe bringing down his hooked claws onto him the moment he had gotten in reach, whilst the Prince had used all his strength to hold the strike at bay.
Despite the darkness of the night and blinding weather, still holding his ground against his foe, Godzilla could see clearly the glowing red eyes of the Titan that pierced through the wind. And soon after, Godzilla could see these red eyes form into one of sadistic confidence, as the Titan pushed against the arms of the Prince and extended them away from his body- leaving him wide open.
With a savage roar that vibrated across the cold air, the creature once again struck down his hooked claws upon Godzilla- this time not missing his mark. Harshly, the claws slashed against the chest of the Prince, drawing blood and causing Godzilla to reel back in pain. Not satisfied with his cruelty yet, the Titan charged closer to the wounded Prince and struck his sharp hook against the side of his body.
The Prince could already taste the blood in his mouth, but this battle was one he had to win. If he was to be King, none will overpower his might. Roaring back at his foe- this time, with pure rage rather than pain- Godzilla quickly swung around and smashed his tail against the body of the Titan, thus ending their clash in a stalemate.
But he wasn't done. He hadn't been brought up to just idle around with his attacks. Collecting himself, and clenching his teeth as to not fall victim to his pain, Godzilla charged forth at the dazed Titan. With all his might, he tackled against his foe- with the Kaiju letting out a shocked and pained scream- only to then raise his broad head higher, and collapse it back down onto his enemy with no remorse, biting against the side of his enemy's neck.
He couldn't keep his bite on the Titan for much longer, for the Titan had constantly pierced the Prince's thick hide with his hooks after recollecting himself from the initial shock and pain. Roaring out, the Prince released his bite and forced his claws against the chest of the Titan. Struggling against the pain, Godzilla released all his strength into one blow as he pushed his enemy away from him- overpowering his foe and causing the spiked Titan to collapse a distance away from him.
He was going to end this now. Once this battle was over, he would surely move onto the next one.
Then the next.
Then the next…
Tensing his body and planting his feet solidly into the earth, the Prince took a deep breathe, letting the natural air of the world flow into his very body. And making the fire that welled up inside him begin to rise. Shaking off the pain, the spiked Titan looked on in horror at the Prince's form glowing a harsh, blinding blue- a blue that had gradually started to light itself upon his dorsal plates, starting from right at the tip of his tail and climbing all the way back onto his rigid neck. Godzilla could taste the fire that burned at the back of his throat, and opened his mouth slightly to let wisps of blue flame escape his stomach. With burning, blue eyes, Godzilla roared and let out a solid stream of blue fire, a blast of his species most unique and powerful attack- his Atomic Breathe.
Unable to move out of the way- only just having stood up and clenching the wound on the side of his neck- the Titan was hit at full force by the Prince's attack. He could feel his scales being burnt the more the blue flame encompassed his body. Shrieking in pain, the Titan started to fall back as the Prince stomped closer.
However, a fight between Kaiju- willed and rage-driven Kaiju at that- was more than a test of strength, but a test of will power as well. Baring his sharp teeth, the Titan, with all his might, raised the great hooks in his arms to shield himself from the fire and continued to stand his ground in the face of such power. Frustrated by his foe's resilience, the Prince kept pushing on- stronger and stronger- until he drained himself of power and stopped any more of his fire to disperse from him.
Lowering his head down in exhaustion, Godzilla took this time to catch his breathe, but was further angered by the sight that befell him. In front of him, stood his enemy, with scales burnt painfully but a wicked smile of arrogance adorning his beak. Upon closer inspection, the Prince could see how the hook's of the Titan seemed nearly undamaged by his atomic breathe- somehow being able to resist the full extent of his attack.
It seemed- much like those parasitic Jinshin-Mushi- they had adapted to and conquered the abilities of Godzilla's species.
Now at the very limit of his wrath, Godzilla charged forward and almost instantaneously closed the gap between him and his enemy. Like he predicted, the spiked Titan swung a hook against the Prince, but his attack was thoroughly blocked by the Prince, giving Godzilla ample time to counter with a strike of his own sharp claws against the head of his foe.
However, almost as if the blow hadn't fazed him in the slightest, the spiked Titan savagely attacked back at the Prince, and viciously rammed one of his hooks into the side of Godzilla's neck. Roaring out in pain, Godzilla had tried to used both of his claws to remove the hook from his neck, but was soon put on the defensive as his enemy quickly swung his other hook against him. With a hook on either side of him- using one claw to hold back a hook that threatened to strike the top of his head, and using one claw to try and pry out the other hook that dug deeper into him- the Prince could only bare his teeth and snarl as he started to collapse in on himself and fall against his enemy.
But his agitated mood of worry came to a screeching halt, as both him and his enemy was suddenly showered by a blue, beautiful light. It definitely wasn't him- he hadn't regained enough energy yet to use his atomic breathe again. Nor was it his enemy, as Godzilla noticed how the spiked Titan's harsh push against him slightly loosened in power due to his confusion. Then, the Prince realised the only other option of who it could be, and couldn't help a relieved smile to escape him.
With both Kaiju turning to face the sky, the darkness of night was expelled with blinding light and the grey clouds were dispersed across the sky as a winged creature came from the heaven's itself- basked in a beautiful and powerful blue light- roaring a loud shrill of determination and power. Soon, it charged at the Prince's enemy, striking down at the head of the spiked Titan with its sharp forelimbs as its great and beautiful blue wings beat against the harsh winds.
Reeling back in pain, the spiked Titan raised his hooks off the injured Godzilla and into the air, ready to exact revenge. But, as if knowing this outcome, the moment he did so, his hook's were trapped together in a bundle of sticky silk spat out by the winged creature- ones strong enough for the Titan to not be able to set himself free and distract him long enough for the Prince to get his composure and strength back.
Seizing this opportunity, Godzilla's roar echoed for miles on end as he pushed back against the chest of his enemy and harshly made him stumble upon himself. Thankful, she bought him enough time, and Godzilla once again allowed the fire to course from his stomach all the way into his throat. At once, he expelled the fire with a harsh, blue shine as he shot his atomic breathe again. And this time, with his hooks clasped together and unable to protect him, the spiked Titan took the full power of Godzilla's atomic breathe- shrieking in agony as he did so.
Panting quickly and lowering the top half of his body, once the smoke had cleared, Godzilla tried desperately to look for his saviour- quickly turning his head to look in many directions erratically. Because of this, he hadn't heard the soft beatings of wings lowering closer behind him and drop down onto his back. At once, feeling her gentle touch land comfortably behind him, Godzilla turned his head to face his back, and was greeted with a kind, relieved smile. With sparkling blue eyes, and soft fur that bristled against his scales, the Prince was calmed at the sight of his precious partner.
"Mosura…" Godzilla breathed out, his panting soon slowing down as he calmed his erratic breathing.
"My Prince." Mothra warmly smiled back, her eyes slightly releasing tears from them, only making the blue shine within them sparkle even more. But upon seeing the injuries Godzilla had endured and the blood that had now dried on him, the smile she wore slowly disappeared and her face was strewn with sadness.
"Oh, Gojira." Mothra whispered softly, gently caressing the fresh wound upon the King's neck and grimacing at the blood on her claws, "Please, forgive me for my lateness. Had I arrived earlier like I was meant to do-"
"Mosu, don't worry about it. I'm fine." Godzilla interrupted, softening his golden eyes as to better comfort his worried partner. Mothra looked back into his eyes, calmed at his confident words, but also slightly shying away and glowing a faint pink at the mention of the nickname he had recently given her, "Besides, I'm just…"
The Prince leaned closer to her, and granted a rare smile. One that was so soft and different from his usual, hard and stoic expression. And one, she had noticed, was being used most frequently whenever he was talking to her.
"I'm just glad you are here." the Prince said warmly, his blue glow much calmer and serene then it was before.
Mothra, getting closer to Godzilla's head, gently brushed her forelimb against the side of his face and smiled sympathetically back at him. "I am too." she replied, keeping her claw against his head as both Titan's continued to smile at each other.
But before she could rest the top of her head on his, a rage-stricken, hateful roar vibrated across the night sky, causing the two Titans to instantly turn their heads back in front of them and face the newly-risen, spiked Titan that bared his fangs evilly and spitefully at them, slashing the air with his hooks wildly. Quickly, their faces became strewn with fierceness and seriousness as Mothra flew off the back of the Prince and readied a battle stance with Godzilla.
"Stay by my side. Focus on supporting me and drawing out his attacks," Godzilla commanded, keeping his golden eyes on his enemy, "I'll focus on direct attacking and be our main offensive pivot."
From a strategical standpoint, this was for the best given both of their sizes, build and abilities. But, on a more personal level, Godzilla didn't want the slightest chance of Mothra getting hurt.
"As you wish, my Prince." Mothra replied, determined, raising her frontal claws and beating her wings strongly against the harsh winds.
Together, they charged at the spiked Titan, all three of the fierce Kaiju letting out distinct, powerful battle cries- the Prince's and his partner's noticeable glow of blue combining together as they charged forth. Mothra, being the quickest out of them, flew close to the enemy. And, being the most agile and skilled, narrowly avoided the strikes and slashes of the Titan's hooks. With their enemy distracted by her, Godzilla rammed right into the spiked Titan at full strength and struck his claw against his metallic beak. Just before the spiked Titan could bring down his raised arms onto the Prince, Mothra quickly flew forth and slashed at them with her claws, making the spiked Titan recoil back in pain.
With his chest exposed, Godzilla savagely clawed at the Titan's chest, his scales on his claws starting to bleed, occasionally being slashed by the spike's on his enemy's chest, but making his attack worthwhile as he noticed his enemy stumble back and screech in pain.
With his arms stilled injured, the spiked Titan desperately tried to use his beak to bite at the injured part of the Prince's neck. Seeing what he was about to do, Mothra spat out her silk from her mouth, sticking his mouth shut and stopping their enemy's serrated teeth from clenching at Godzilla, as their enemy leant his head back in surprise and irritation. The Prince, with golden eyes filled with rage, retaliated by biting into the shoulder of his foe, whilst also digging his claws into the sides of his arms. With a final push of strength- feeling it start to wane from exhaustion- Godzilla bit off a huge chunk of the spiked Titan's scales. Disgusted, he spat out the blood in his mouth as he fiercely pushed his enemy towards the ground.
And yet, filled with maliciousness and hatred, the spiked Titan hadn't given up. For as he fell, he stabbed his hook into the thigh of the Prince, piercing past his scales and digging deep into his flesh. Roaring a pained cry, Godzilla reflexively collapsed onto his legs and fell onto the ground. With a deafening shriek, and looking behind him just in time, the spiked Titan was able to stand right back up and slash at the incoming Mothra- rushing in to help her Prince, despite his commands.
Fortunately for her, she just avoided a lethal strike from the sharp hooks. However, his attack wasn't entirely avoided, for his hook was able to pierce her mighty wings. Shrilling in pain, Mothra was flung away by the spiked Titan and collapsed harshly onto the ground far from him.
"Mosura!" Godzilla roared, now the angriest he had ever been. Filled with adrenaline and an unbridled rage, Godzilla ignored the pain of all his bleeding injuries as he viciously turned around to smash his tail against the side of the off-guard Titan. With their enemy roaring as he fell, the Prince rushed to the side of his partner and leant close to her, seeing how she had already started to slowly rise back up.
"Don't worry, my Prince." Mothra hastily comforted him, "The injuries I've sustained are nothing too serious. I can still fight."
Sighing somberly, Godzilla was relieved at Mothra's condition, but anxious about just how they might be able to win what was probably their most hard fought battle yet. "He doesn't seem like he's willing to go down at all!" Godzilla growled, noticing how the Titan was already starting to stand back up, "Anything we do just won't put him down for good!"
Taking her eyes of Godzilla and towards the Titan, Mothra took in a shaky breathe as a thought entered her mind. "I have a plan, my Prince." Mothra stated, her eyes turning sharp with conviction, "but I need to be the one to get close and make a direct attack."
"Mosura…" the Prince said, his voice trembling slightly as he turned his head to look at her, his breathing increasing from his fear.
"Please," Mothra whispered, looking deep into the gold of Godzilla's eyes and smiling confidently at him, "you trust my judgment, do you not?"
Godzilla, taking his eyes off of her, raised himself and gave off a powerful roar, one that signaled that he was going to end this fight- right now.
"Always."
His eyes flashed blue once again as his dorsal plates gradually glowed the same colour, vibrating the air around them. He didn't have much strength left within him- if their next attack were to fail, they would both be dead. And he wasn't going to let that happen. Opening his mouth; letting wisps of blue flame escape his throat, Godzilla fired off his atomic breathe one final time, directly hitting the Titan.
Blocking his attack with his hooks, the spiked Titan pushed back with all his might- his eyes glowing a devilish red through the blue flame. Once the atomic breathe all but diminished into the air, the Titan raised his hooks in an arrogant manner. But this arrogance wouldn't last, as through the dispersing blue flames, Godzilla charged forth and plunged his entire body into the Titan, deepening his claws into his shoulders.
Snarling back at the Prince, the spiked Titan struck a lethal blow onto Godzilla- stabbing his hooks mercilessly onto either side of Godzilla's body, drawing blood. Finally, the Prince was at his limit and couldn't take it any loner. Letting go of his grasp on the Titan, Godzilla drew back in pain, allowing his enemy to strike his arm downwards atop the Prince's head and causing him to collapse onto the ground. For a moment, the spiked Titan reveled in his victory, thinking he had won.
But, the moment Godzilla fell, Mothra charged forth unexpectedly- a vengeance and determination swelling in her eyes- with her abdomen trusting forward, adorned with a sharp stinger. Powerfully, her stinger stabbed the Titan's neck, pushing past his rough scales and injecting her venom into the Kaiju. There, so close to her enemy, she stared him down with eye's stern with anger; her enemy roaring in agony as he stared back at her in the same way.
But before she had the chance to fly back, the side of Mothra's body was clasped firmly in the bite of the Titan who had turned his neck just enough to do so. Harshly, he pried her off him and into the air. Struggling to keep her balance in the air from the pain and exhaustion, Mothra was left unprotected as she took the full brunt of the Titan's hook, slashing against her body, drawing blood and making her crash down onto the floor with a painful shriek that echoed violently.
Godzilla, seeing her crash onto the floor- and not move back up- growled savagely as parts of his teeth started to shatter from his clenching. But, he just couldn't will himself to stand- he was drained and just couldn't move. In front of him, stood his enemy, angered beyond comprehension and raising his hook to deliver the killing blow.
But his hook stopped just before it could pierce the Prince's head. Looking upwards, Godzilla could see the Titan frozen in place and unable to move- despite many signs telling him how desperately his enemy was trying to escape his sudden, trapped state. Mothra, with her paralysing venom, gave him the edge he needed. Giving him all the determination he needed to end it all, Godzilla lunged upwards and bit the neck of the spiked Titan with everything he had left.
With one blow; with an echoing crack, the hooked arms became limp as his sadistic enemy perished for good.
Godzilla had no time to celebrate his victory. Once the act was done, he turned away from the lifeless body as his eyes desperately scanned the area for Mothra, his legs threatening to give way- for good, this time. Soon, he finally saw her, but his eyes widened in fear and despair as he noticed Mothra hadn't moved at all ever since she had fallen.
Stumbling to her side, Godzilla gave into his exhaustion and collapsed on his knees. There, as gently as he could, he picked her up and cradled her still body in his arms, allowing her form to rest comfortably against his chest.
"M-Mosura?" Godzilla spoke softly, stumbling on his words. He turned her around carefully so she could look at him, and tried his best not to stain her fur with the blood from his wounds on his chest. But, he caught on his breathe as he realised the white fur had already had stains of red- of her own blood.
Weakly, Mothra turned her head and looked back at the prince- her eyes that shone blue now decreasing in its luminosity. "You won, my Prince." Mothra spoke softly, still retaining her warm smile, "I'm so proud of you."
"I couldn't have done it without you." Godzilla replied, clenching his teeth harshly and his arms to clasp tighter around her. They had won the day- it just couldn't end like this, "That's why… That's why you are going to be fine!"
With his own vision fading, the Prince struggled to stand on his feet as he felt the unforgiving winds get colder and colder. "I will…" Godzilla snarled through gritted teeth, "I will take you home. I won't let you die!"
Calmly and filled with tender care, Mothra raised her claw to brush against Godzilla's head, causing him to turn his head to face her again and collapse back onto his knees. Despite the cold, her smile was the warmest it had ever been and still managed to comfort him.
"I will never truly die," Mothra whispered weakly but her expression still staying strong for him, "My body may die, but my spirit will not. I will return to this world, just like others have.
"Like the earth has done many times before, I will be reborn, Gojra."
"So please," Mothra implored, now resting her risen claw to the side and burying her soft head into his chest, "rest easy and smile, for me."
A single tear- the first of its kind- fell from Godzilla's golden eyes as he was left speechless and stunned. His erratic shaking soon came to a halt, and like she had asked, he was able to summon a genuine, warm smile back to her, marveling at her bravery and valour.
But, still, the shaking wouldn't stop. Why? The Prince had thought. He was sure he had willed himself of his fears for her, why wouldn't the shaking stop? But, his eyes became wide with despair and remorse, as he realised that he wasn't the one shaking- it was Mothra.
"Gojira…" Mothra whimpered, her smile now gone and her face filled with fear and worry. Godzilla leant closer to her, and offered as much comfort as he could, "I'm… I'm scared…"
The Prince's heart tightened at her words- he couldn't imagine what it was like to be dying. Death was a natural fear shared by all sentient life. It was unfair for someone like her to ever experience such a fate. Trembling in his arms, she continued, "I'm scared I won't wake up. I'm scared I'll never see you again. Gojira… I…"
Guilty, she cried out, silently apologising to Godzilla for being unable to stay strong for him much longer.
"I don't want to die."
Instantly, her cries became silent and were replaced with gasps of surprise. She was no longer being held against the Prince's chest. Instead, her head rested against the neck of the Prince- one of his arms wrapped around her back; the other with his a claw placed gently against the back of her head. There, Godzilla hugged her deeply in his arms.
"I will wait for you!" Godzilla cried, shutting his eyes tightly as he tightened his hold on her, "No matter how long it takes, no matter how much the world has changed, I will wait for you!"
Godzilla roared painfully, with his one tear becoming many the longer he held his friend. "You will return to this world!" Godzilla roared, his voice breaking in despair, "You will come back to me!"
"You will come back to me!"
Godzilla loosened his grip on her, and leant his head back to stare into her eyes. His face no longer had any trace of sadness, but was filled with certainty and determination- shining through his golden eyes. And as she stared into those golden eyes, she unknowing glowed a faint pink, realising- just in that moment- how endearing the Prince looked to her.
How much he had meant to her, and how much she had truly meant to him.
Smiling radiantly, with the last bit of her strength, Mothra touched her head atop his scales- and as consequence- caused her beak to nearly touch his maw. Her breathing became slower as she raised her two claws and clasped them gracefully at the side of his head. And, unknowingly to both of them, the remainder of Mothra's blue light combined and intensified with Godzilla's.
"Thank you," Mothra breathed out, not knowing if Godzilla could even hear her, "my dear Goji."
With her final words said, her claws became limp and fell. Her blue light all but expunged leaving Godzilla in a world of darkness. But her head still laying peacefully atop his, still smiling contently.
The Prince gave a sorrowful roar as he collapsed onto the ground, unconscious- still holding Mothra's lifeless body tightly against him.
Mothra blinked away the tiredness in her eyes and stretched out all of her limbs, slightly yawing as she did so. It had been three months now ever since she had been reborn, and still the world was quiet and tranquil. Nothing worth noting seemed to take place- maybe besides from the fact Godzilla and Rodan were (kind of) getting along now and the humans were growing more and more accustomed to Titans.
It seemed so idyllic, that the Goddess couldn't help but feel the most at ease than she had ever been.
She took in her surroundings and hastily reminded herself of where she was. She was resting atop Godzilla's back, out in the open ocean and accompanying him for his daily rounds- that much was obvious. Relaxing her breathing, Mothra soon turned her attention back to… her dream? No, a memory- and a painful one at that.
Again, having to live in such peaceful day and age had given her and Godzilla ample time to rest- and delve into their thoughts more within those rests. She didn't know why, but she had somehow reminded herself of the time when she had first died. A memory she wasn't particularly keen on remembering.
But, despite its dark and depressing nature, the Goddess couldn't help but flash pink as she remembered the ending to her memory. When she had started to fade away, and Godzilla was right there by her side for all of it. The way Godzilla had held her so tightly, the way he roared out for her with such conviction and emotion.
The way he looked at her in her final moments.
Perhaps that was the day she had first fallen in love with him. To her, it seemed that- with everything that had been said and done- it was obvious why she would start perceiving her dear friend in such a way. And as her heart beat faster from the memory, the more her wings glowed pink.
"You okay?" Godzilla called out softly, looking up at her with concern, "You've been… quiet. Are you doing fine?"
Mothra, realising she had completely disregarded the King for who knows how long chastised herself and hastily replied back. "Yes Goji, I am well." Mothra reassured the King, caressing the side of his face with her claw, making him sigh out, relieved and happy, "I've just been… tired, is all."
"If you want, I could turn around and go back home." the King offered. He knew (from experience) just how jarring it could be for someone to try and stay awake and do work whenever all they had wanted to do was rest.
"No, that won't be necessary." Mothra replied gently as she perched herself higher atop the King's back, "I have just been reminiscing on my own thoughts for a while now." Soon after, she smiled down to the King playfully as she glowed brighter, "I now see why you have to constantly rest, given you must do this every day."
The King smiled back after hearing her response, but stopped within the warm water, causing Mothra to look at him confused and tilt her head. "I believe it's time for a break, then." Godzilla declared, allowing his massive form to float gently above the water. However, he wasn't content in staying this way- and he wanted to give the Goddess more comfort and enjoyment.
"Mosu," the King called out gingerly, but with playful excitement, "fly off for a second."
Giving an audible shrill of perplexity, Mothra questioned just what the King was planning on doing. But she trusted in his words, and stretched out her wings. Almost instantly, she went into the air, but stayed mere metres above Godzilla's back.
With a soft smile, Godzilla spun himself within the ocean, causing great waves to come forth and splashes of water to lightly hit Mothra. Once she had patted down the soaked fur atop her head, she opened her eyes and stumbled back slightly in amazement. Godzilla, now floating atop his back, gestured for her to lay down atop his chest.
Talk about timing! She goes on and remembers what it was like to have fallen for him for the first time, and he goes and does this?!
Sheepishly, tucking her wings behind her back as to hide the pink glow, Mothra landed gracefully atop his chest and timidly spread her claws against it, brushing against his rough scales. Once she had done so, Godzilla wrapped an arm around her back and placed his other claw against the back of her head, gently caressing her lovely fur. With a timid and content smile, Mothra too pressed the side of her head deeper into his chest and closed her eyes once more.
They stayed that way- barely moving an inch- within the moments of silence. Godzilla noticing Mothra's body slowly rising and falling with his chest as he breathed in and out, and Mothra calmly taking in every subtle sound of his heartbeat as she lay against his chest. But then Godzilla rested his head against the water and turned to face the calm, clear sky. With softened eyes, he spoke again.
"I would do this frequently, you know." Godzilla whispered, tightening his hold on her. Slowly, Mothra lifted her head so it wasn't on her side but facing the King. Even so, Godzilla continued to look at the sky.
"Whenever you would… be gone from me," the King continued, slightly hesitating on his words and taking in every little detail of the sky- from the wisps of clouds to the birds that flew on high, "whenever I would wait for you, I would lay on my back and look to the sky."
"Why?" the Goddess lightly questioned, but smiling lovingly, already knowing the King's answer.
"Because Mosu," Godzilla answered, still unable to take his eyes from the sky, "It reminds me so much of you."
He held her soundly against him with a growing smile and she moved her head from his chest area to his neck, sighing in a pleased manner as she returned to rest on the side of her head. "From its calming blue and comforting warmth," Godzilla remarked with Mothra listening intently as parts of her blue wings became brighter, "to how beautiful it really is."
"And how…" Godzilla continued again, but this time, hesitating on his words as his small smile started to disappear. Concerned by his sudden change in tone, Mothra looked to Godzilla- who was still staring upwards. Frowning in a saddened manner, he continued, "How it's a place where I can never join you."
Surprise by his lonesome mood, giving a sympathetic, caring smile, Mothra hugged her claws around Godzilla's broad neck, making the King pry his eyes away from the sky and stare at her surprised yet happy.
"I may be able to fly high enough into the heavens and see the stars," Mothra spoke slowly and gently, tightening her own grip against the King, "but I assure you, Goji, I would much rather spend my days down here with you."
Amazed and heavily delighted by her answer, Godzilla laid his head back down onto the water, with Mothra still resting her head and claws by the sides of his neck. Within their embrace, Godzilla purred softly- an act signifying immense gratitude- as both the King and the Goddess rested against one another. And it would have been a perfect way to end things- with both friends resting comfortably atop each other. Unfortunately, the King had other plans.
"Hey, Mosu?" Godzilla asked after a while in a calmed and quiet voice.
"Hm?" Mothra replied, too tired to say much words and focusing more on the warmth of Godzilla's body.
But, soon, she gave a loud shrill in surprise as Godzilla quickly spun in the ocean yet again- immersing both himself and her in the cold water. Once submerging himself back onto his back, Godzilla looked at Mothra to see the fruits of his labour. Drenched, surprised and snapped out of her aloof state, it seemed the King got the sight he was looking for.
"Gojira!" Mothra cried, giving Godzilla a stern look as she now stood atop the King's chest, desperately trying to shake off the water that matted her fur. It was rare for the King to do something so playful, but it wasn't unheard of- especially if it was with her.
Cute… the King thought to himself
"S-Sorry!" Godzilla replied back, bracing himself for the Goddess's soon-to-be outburst and smiling mischievously at her, "I… I just couldn't help myself."
Just before she could give him a stern lecturing, Mothra perked her head up in shock and looked down to the King's face. Amidst her heightened surprise, he had started to laugh. It came as a deep rumble from his throat but soon resonated across the open water. There, smiling joyfully, the King continued to laugh whilst also desperately trying to stop himself as to not anger Mothra any further.
And somehow, with how happy he looked; with how at peace he was, Mothra momentarily forgot about his irritating act and started to smile. And with that smile, came her gentle laugh. And with her laugh, the King and the Goddess moved closer and comforted each other firmly in their arms.
With their combined laughter as lively as ever.
So, I think I should explain some stuff first:
-If you didn't quite catch that, the 'spiked Titan' that Goji and Mothra were fighting is part of Gigan's species (hence the hook's, beak, etc). However, it wasn't actually 'Gigan', just another one of his species (I may or may not have plans for Gigan for the future).
-The Jinshin-Mushi is just another term for the MUTO's. MUTO isn't actually a class of species, just a name for any giant monster (like 'Kaiju') so it felt 'right' to refer to the MUTO's like that.
-The reason the spiked Titan was so strong was because he was a sort of 'general' (it was a war after all) hence why Godzilla confronted him personally. This was also when Goji was considered a Prince, and in my head cannon, he fought Ghidorah when he was officially King- so both Goji and Mothra were weaker and less experienced then they are now.
Anyway, that's about it. This was my first time writing a fight scene, and I plan for more stuff like this in the future.
Just to give a heads-up, I plan for one more chapter in this book to have the same level of violence and blood as this chapter. Although, there will be no depictions of death like in this one.
Thanks for reading!
