He watched out of the corner of his eyes and she brushed her long hair. She was focused on the movie playing on his tv and he took the time to appreciate her.
She was wearing flowing blue pants, legs curled up under herself, with black stripes throughout them in a haphazard pattern. A plain grey sweater was loose on her top half and he enjoyed the sight of her bare shoulder as it draped low on one side. Her face was clean of the old makeup, and her natural beauty was stunning. Jade eyes were bright against her light red hair and half of it was braided back against her scalp in, what he assumed was a french braid, that extended past her neck and came down to below her breasts.
She put her brush down and began to braid the other half of her hair. He watched transfixed on the sight as she twisted the hair around for a few minutes until she got to the end of the strands and used a small hair tie to lock the knots in place. She sighed happily and leaned back against the couch, seeming pleased to be done.
He turned his focus back to the tv and slouched further down, the exhaustion of the long night starting to catch up to him.
Her yawn caused him to look back at her and he saw her curling up tighter and laying her head down on one of his many throw pillows. He reached over the edge of the couch and grabbed a soft blanket from the basket there, holding it out to her. "Here, you probably have a chill from your shower."
She smiled at him and took the blanket. "What about you? You took a shower too."
He shook his head and patted his belly with a laugh. "My body and quirk keep me fairly warm. I'll be okay Manami."
He looked back to the tv and they were both quiet for a time while they watched it. Shuffling noises to his left caught his attention but he assumed it was her getting comfortable again. A hand moving to rest on his chest made him glance over.
She had moved closer to him and was now resting her head a bit away from his. The blanket was pulled tight around her and he could see that she was blushing. He smiled and grabbed her hand, pulling on it to move her closer.
She followed his lead and soon her head was laying on his chest and the blanket was tossed over them both. His left hand was against her back, keeping her close to him, and his right one was tracing circles along the calf she had tossed over his lap.
He smiled in content and her happy sigh made it grow bigger along his cheeks. They rested and watched the movie as they enjoyed each other's quiet company.
Her breaths slowly deepened and by the time the movie was halfway over she was snoozing against him. He turned down the volume and rested his head against the plush cushion behind him. His eyes felt heavier and within a few minutes they were both asleep.
Clattering noises pushed against her sleeping mind and she began to stir. A warm pressure tightened along her back and a voice pushed through her unconscious haze. "Shh, go back to sleep. It's just the kittens playing."
"What if they break something?" She asked sleepily, keeping her eyes closed and she snuggled deeper against the warm pillow she was resting.
The pillow moved as a laugh hit her ears. "If they break something, I'll buy it again. I'm not worried about it, now please, go back to sleep."
Before she could reply the warm pressure on her back rubbed up and down and her unconscious pulled her back in.
She didn't know how long she had been sleeping when the warmth against her front and back began to move. She clung to it sleepily. "No, stay."
A shushing sound met her ears and the warmth moved again. She was being lifted and carried. She tried to open her eyes, but found herself too tired. A soft mattress met her as she was laid down and she sighed happily, curling into an even softer pillow. A heavy blanket fell across her body and she smiled. "Thank you."
Warmth pressed against her forehead and a hand rubbed along her back. "Of course sweetheart. Go back to sleep, I need to get some work done."
Two squirming bodies were placed in the bed with her and she turned to them and gently petted their fur, helping to settle them.
A door closed softly and she fell back into a peaceful sleep, two little bodies purring and curling into her warmth.
He watched for a bit as the kittens curled up against her, one at her hip and the other at her shoulders. He closed the door gently and walked down the hall towards his office, turning off the lights as he passed.
He walked through the door in his kitchen and left it open so she would know where he was.
He walked past his gym and opened the door across the hall. He turned on his light and moved to sit at his desk. He logged onto his computer quickly and brought up his schedule for the week. He reviewed it, trying to figure out what all he could reschedule so he could make sure Manami was as safe as possible while under his care.
He saw an email pop up and he opened it to see the chief had sent him a request for a meeting the next day. He rubbed his head in frustration. I thought _ had said Monday. He looked at his calendar and frowned. It's only Wednesday, no Thursday. Last night was Wednesday.
He sighed and began to type out a reply. He erased it and started again, agreeing to the meeting as long as it was at his agency and they would leave when he asked. He sent the email and began looking over his schedule again.
He pulled up another email on his other screen and began to make notes for his assistant. He made bullet points of things he wanted to move and advised her that they would be having a guest at the agency for the next few days. I hope Manami is okay with coming with me to work, but I can't leave her here alone while she has a concussion so I don't really have a choice.
He sent the email and saw he had a reply from the chief. He had agreed and even offered to bring coffee for the urgent request. He smiled and sent back his agreement.
He looked over at his schedule and watched as his assistant remotely began to delete and move meetings around. He sighed and made a mental note to bring doughnuts with him the next day to thank her.
He answered a few more emails and before long his stomach growled. He looked at the bottom of his screen to see the time was late afternoon. No wonder I'm hungry.
He stood and stretched, looking down at himself and seeing that the slight pudge he had gained along his abdomen from breakfast was gone, leaving his fit form. He walked into the kitchen and began pulling out ingredients to make a hefty lunch. I have to get some more food in my system before I have to go to work tomorrow.
He moved to his stereo and put on some music at a low volume. He turned back to the ingredients and began to chop and mix them together into a pot. He set it on a low heat and washed his hands before he grabbed the thawed chicken from the fridge.
A sliding noise caused him to look at the floor and he saw the kittens chasing after each other around the living room. He smiled at the sight and looked back at his cutting board. He chopped up the chicken and tossed seasonings on it before he put it into the oven with the timer set.
He moved back to the pan and stirred it. His hips moved in time to the music that was playing and he smiled. He enjoyed cooking, loved to watch as ingredients came together to make something filling and delicious.
He grabbed the rice cooker from the island and got it started, measuring out enough for his big appetite and the still sleeping woman. She'll be hungry too.
His hips moved side to side as he stirred the pot again and he began to softly sing to himself. He smiled as the smell hit his nose and moved to open the oven and pull out the chicken.
She leaned against the entrance to the kitchen, hypnotized by the sight before her. He was making food, and from the smell he hadn't lied earlier when he told her he was a good cook. Her stomach growled as he pulled chicken from the oven and she covered her stomach, hoping the music was too loud for him to have heard it. She wanted to watch him for as long as possible.
His hips were moving side to side with the music, and his voice carried to her. His singing sounded lovely to her, his deep tone pleasing to her ears.
She smiled as he dropped the chicken into the pot along the stove and he licked his fingers. She shivered at the sight of his tongue licking off the spices from his fingertips. I wonder what else he can do with that.
He turned to the island and washed his hands. His eyes snapped to hers and she watched as his gaze travelled hungrily up her form. "Manami, I didn't realize you were awake."
