It was quiet and she was beginning to sweat. He wasn't motionless, his eyes were slightly unfocused as he stared down at her stomach. There was a twitch every now and then to his fingers as they rested against her shirt.

She took this time to blatantly stare at him. His golden, pale skin, his catlike eyes, she even admired his dark hair. Alice wondered if her baby would be born with his dark hair. She'd prefer it to her own light brown.

Although she really prayed the child would have her green eyes over his yellow. She tried to imagine breastfeeding a babe with those eyes. It was a little unnerving.

Data came to life all at once and his head snapped up and he stared right back at her. Her ears flooded with heat at being caught staring but before she could lighten the situation Data spoke

"We must go see the Captain." His fingers curled around her stomach before he turned and walked out of the room.

Alice blinked once, twice and quickly realized Data wasn't going to wait. She chased after him and grabbed onto his arm.

Data was stronger than anyone on the ship but she appreciated his immediate response to her hand. He stopped instantly and turned to give her his full attention. Unfortunately, Alice was unprepared for this and continued her quick step.

She came face to face with his chest. Data took a step back and Alice rubbed at her nose in embarrassment.

"Are you alright, Doctor Baker?"

Alice felt the heat fill her ears and she nodded. Data inclined his head and then began to resume his course to the nearest turbolift.

"Data, wait!" Alice called.

Data, once again, gave her his full attention at the drop of a hat.

"Doctor?" He asked.

"Exactly!" She responded enthusiastically.

Data's Head cocked and his brows lifted.

Alice continued, "A doctor, Data, we should go see a doctor first."

Data's face relaxed back to his neutral.

"It would be best for us to speak with Captain Picard first. We can ascertain the reaction to be received by sickbay. They will first confirm your pregnancy and then they will begin to try and understand how it came to be."

Alice opened her mouth but Data was on a tangent now and his glazed over look let her know he wasn't going to hear her.

"Furthermore I have concluded that you are in fact pregnant by our touch earlier, and before we are prepared to make decisions regarding the fetus we will need to discuss together. But before we can do that, Captain Picard has asked to be made aware of any contact made by Q."

Alice felt a light thump to her heart as he first began speaking. She wasn't entirely listening to his final statements but she returned his now clear gaze when she heard his silence.

"I can not go against a direct order from my superior." Datas words were final but she needed confirmation on one last thing.

"You felt the baby?" She let her hand rest against her stomach, in the exact same position he had not 10 minutes ago. Yet all she felt was her.

"Yes, it was faint but I did feel a sort of… connection."

Alice frowned lightly, she wouldn't be able to feel the baby for a least a few more months. Yet Data claimed to already have a bond.

Data opened his mouth and breathed in loudly,

"Alice, may we go see the Captain now?"

Alice looked up into his face, she debated his words and realized he was right. She gave a nod and followed him onto the Turbolift.

Captain Picard was sitting in his ready room, reading over their latest mission report. They had given transport to a refugee settlement, it had been very fast and all was in order. All Jean-Luc had to do was re-read his notes and send them off to Starfleet.

The bell chimed and he glanced towards the door, he sighed and finished the sentence he was reading. He placed a bookmark for later and called out, "Enter." As he placed the PADD to the side of his desk.

Commander Data strode into the room looking as calm and neutral as always. Behind him came Doctor Baker, she seemed hesitant and even a little, dare he say, abashed.

They were an odd pair, Data hardly spent any time in Sickbay. All his repairs were strictly carried out by Commander La Forge or even by Data himself when in a pinch. Doctor Baker very rarely left Sickbay, if Beverley was correct.

Doctor Baker had joined them with a small group of recruits some odd months ago. Jean-Luc had read her files and, though she was new and fresh out of the academy, Captain Yamaha had sung her praise.

Jean-Luc's own interests were piqued when he'd found her family tree. Voyager had been a rather interesting mystery for him, he had never fully believed they were dead. Now to find a Doctor who was related to the Captain of said ship? It was a find he couldn't pass.

"Mr. Data, Doctor Baker, to what do I owe this pleasure?" Jean-Luc stood and gestured for each to take their own seats across from his desk.

Alice took the seat closest to the door, the same she sat in just the other night to learn of Voyagers reappearance. Commander Data did not sit down however, he strode towards the Captains desk with a little more urgency.

"Captain, both Doctor Baker and myself have received contact from Q this past evening."

Jean-Luc felt all energy drain from him immediately and had to fight the urge to rub his face with his hands. If there was one entity in all the galaxy he would never want to see again, it was Q.

He lifted his head to look between the two officers in front of him. Moments ticked on and finally he decided to get on with it

"What did he want this time?"

Jean-Luc turned to Data but, surprisingly Data gave all of his attention to Doctor Baker. Jean-Luc followed the lieutenant Commander's gaze to see Alice biting her lip. She seemed unsure, she was wringing her fingers and opened her mouth once, twice, only to close it again.

"Alice," Jean-Luc called to her, "please don't rush yourself, I only want to know what Q has said."

It was true, he believed the pair in front of him were the victims. The doctor was clearly upset over whatever had taken place. It was his job as captain to rectify the problems caused by their resident demon.

"He is going to marry my cousin."

Perhaps his hearing was failing him. Yes, that had to be it. His father had been hard of hearing as his age progressed, he can still remember coming home to visit during vacations while still in the academy. He'd gone hoarse from all the yelling to try and help his father understand.

He'd simply misunderstood. He cleared his throat and gestured towards the young doctor once more.

"Excuse me, Doctor, would you please repeat that for me once more" it was all a misunderstanding.

"Q has been courting my cousin Captain Janeway, they plan on marrying in a year."

This was something he had never been trained for in all his years of service and especially never explained to while in the Academy.

"This must be a ruse of some sort, Data?" Jean-Luc turned to his most faithful and logical companion.

"Unfortunately sir, it seems as though it is entirely real. Q has also informed Doctor Baker and myself that we will be getting married. To one another, sir."

This has to be the most idiotic stunt pulled by Q yet! Coming onto his ship to play this match maker game. Well he wasn't having it.

"Doctor Baker, do you wish to marry Commander Data?"

The doctor sat up straight in her chair.

"No, sir. I hardly even know Commander Data."

Jean-Luc stood and flourished his hands before dusting them of the proverbial problem

"There, now, all's well. If Q bothers either of you again, we will be prepared to turn him away."

"Captain," Commander Data pulled him back to reality with one sentence

"Doctor Baker is pregnant with my child. By Q, of course."

Jean-Luc couldn't help but stare openly at the two, this couldn't actually be happening, could it?

Alice began to ring her hands, Data was certainly blunt. The poor Captain looked like a fish out of water with his mouth agape.

The Captain stood and slowly strode to the other side of his desk, he sat against the corner and stared right down at Alice

"Doctor Baker have you been able to test the validity of these claims? Has Doctor Crusher been informed?"

Alice let her gaze drift to the Commander standing beside the Captain. It would be a little nice to have this vindication, to know that having concrete proof of their pregnancy before going to the Captains ready room was exactly her idea.

Alice let her hand rest against her stomach and remembered Datas moment with their child. She looked up into the wise face of the caring Captain

"Not yet, sir, but Data felt our baby's presence."

As unethical as it all was and as much as her training was screaming that she had to see this to believe it, she trusted Data.

"You felt this child, Mr. Data?"

Data gave one nod and tilted his head slightly

"What I felt was a connection, of sorts, Captain. I have felt this reaction only once before, the first time I touched my brother Lore. I have a hypothesis, sir, --"

Captain Picard cut Data off with, "Thank you, Mr. Data." And both men turned their attention to Alice.

Captain Picard's brow wasn't entirely furrowed but he stared at her with intense focus. It made her think of the times she'd watched her Grandmother put together puzzles.

"Doctor Baker, you are to go to Sickbay, I want a complete examination to be taken. I believe Mr. Data's experience, but I'd like to have a medical log to read myself." Alice nodded in agreement.

"Mr. Data," Captain Picard turned back to his second in command.

"I'd like for you to ready the senior staff, we will have a meeting in one hour to discuss our recent visit with Q. Dismissed."

Data headed for the door and Captain Picard stood and began to walk back around his desk but both men were stopped by Alice's voice.

"Captain. May I join your meeting with the senior staff?"

Captain Picard paused for a moment to contemplate her request, she could see the hesitation so Alice explained further.

"If you will be discussing me, I think it would only be fair if I am present."

A slow, complacent smile took over Jean-Luc's lips and he nodded with her words. She was right, she had the right to be involved.

"You are correct, Doctor Baker. You may join. Have Beverly run the medical examination, she'll be the fastest and then you can both join us in an hour."

Alice thanked the Captain and stood to leave, Data stood to the side of the door, his presence kept the door open, and allowed Alice to leave first.

"Mr. Data, please escort Doctor Baker to Medbay." Data gave a single nod and the door swished shut behind him.

Alice and Data entered the Turbolift and Alice called out, "Deck 2, please."

It was quiet for a moment but Alice was biting at her lip. She replayed the conversation with the Captain but only the last few moments really stuck with her. Data had spoken of a brother, she hadn't known he had a family.

"Commander," Alice reached out her hand but as Data turned to stare down at her she let the hand drop.

"Earlier you spoke of a similar connection when you touched your brother." Data's eyes were a little too much for her. His gaze was all encompassing.

"What did you feel?"

Data's eyes seemed to shift, just ever so slightly. Almost as if he were unfocusing his attention from her and refocusing it elsewhere.

"It is difficult to describe. The best description would be that my positronic pathways were flaring. It was as though my wiring was distinguishing Lore as a familiar. I cannot feel, thus it was more of a sensory input that my wiring recognized."

Alice looked towards the floor, Q had said their baby was taken from Datas human genes. Yet Data felt a mechanical connection. Alice now felt a chill at the idea of bottle feeding a yellow eyed robot.
