Chapter 7 - What are you doing here?

"Miss Blair, it time to wake up." Dorota knocked on Blair's bedroom door and tried again. "Come on Miss Blair, mother won't be happy if you spend all day in bed."

"Dorota I'm awake." Blair responded.

"Then I come in?" Dorota decided to ask before just entering she had a feeling Blair would be annoyed if she didn't.

"No Dorota, go make coffee, I'll be down in a minute." Blair didn't want Dorota to come in her room but didn't want her to know that.

"Fine Miss Blair but remember God is always watching."

Blair rolled her eyes at Dorota's response and Chuck let out a chuckle. He admired Dorota's ability to know what was going on, no matter how hard Blair tried to keep a secret, Dorota always knew what was happening in her life.

"What are you laughing about? If she finds you in here it's not me that she will be angry with." It wasn't funny she didn't want everyone knowing what was going on because they would make it into a bigger deal than it. So what if Chuck had spent the night, it didn't mean anything, they were just tired after they engaged in getting their anger and hate out on each other. It was nothing more.

"Blair, I think she already knows."

"This has to end." Blair knew one of them had to make the first move to stop what they were doing before it got out of hand but every time they spoke one thing always led to the other.

"I thought it just did?"

"Don't look so smug, I'll go and distract her in the kitchen while you get out of here without being seen."

"Fine Blair, are we still on for our meeting?" Chuck got out of her bed and started to get dressed.

"I'll meet you at your office." Blair got out of bed and put her robe on.

"Are you sure you don't want a lift?" Chuck raised his eyebrows at her.

"You would just love that wouldn't you? Me alone in your limo." As soon as she had said it she knew it was a mistake by his reaction. He was getting ideas about them in his limo and she needed him to leave.

"I don't know what you're on about." Chuck liked this playful side of Blair. It was a side of Blair that not many got to see or knew existed.

"Get out of here." She was done playing.

"Pencil skirt."

"What?" Blair was confused, was he actually trying to dictate to her what she should wear?

"For our business meeting. Pencil skirt." Chuck wanted to see how much she was willing to play.

"Urgh! You disgust me. There will be none of that for our meeting, I told you that was the last time and there will be no pencil skirt!"

"Whatever you say Waldorf." Chuck smirked.

"Get out of here Bass."

"Pretty sure you need to leave first to distract Dorota."

"Fine, but fix yourself before you leave. If you leave looking like that and you're seen, Gossip Girl is going to be the last of your problems."

"B, what are you doing here?" Serena took in Blair's appearance, she was dishevelled and it looked like she had just come from Chuck's office. She raised her eyebrows at Blair. "Please tell me you didn't?"

"Do what?" Blair asked. She didn't like was Serena was trying to imply.

"What were you doing in Chuck's office?" Serena asked, she wasn't sure if she wanted to know the answer but she needed to ask to gage Blair's reaction.

"I wasn't in Chuck's office." Blair knew she was lying but she wanted to know if she could fool Serena. The last thing she needed was Serena to think there was something going on between her and Chuck.

"Then what are you doing here?" Serena couldn't understand why Blair was even here. If Chuck and Blair were engaged in a war it meant everyone was about to get dragged into it and it wasn't going to end well.

"Final business meeting about the Empire." It was a great cover that Blair knew Serena couldn't question.

"Is that why your skirt is on backwards?" Serena pointed at Blair's pencil skirt.

Blair looked down at her skirt, she didn't have time to check her appearance before security hadn't given Chuck the heads up that Serena was on the way up to his office. Serena was right her skirt was on backwards and it was obvious by the fact that the zip was at the front. "I'll have to have a word with Dorota, she is clearly slacking if she put my skirt on backwards this morning, it's so hard to find good help."

"You didn't realise before you left?"

"It's been a busy morning."

"Where are you heading? I thought you had a meeting?" Serena asked even though she didn't believe Blair's attempt to hide something was clearly going on between her and Chuck again.

"What are you doing here? You haven't spoken with Chuck." Blair tried to take the attention away from her.

"I was coming to talk to him. Wait, how do you know I haven't spoken to him?" They hadn't mentioned Chuck since the four of them had met in the suite at the Empire and the conversation had ended when Blair had slapped Chuck.

"You would have told me."

"Or Chuck would have." As much as Blair believed she was, Serena wasn't stupid, she knew Blair had obviously been seeing a lot more of Chuck than anyone else knew.

"What are you talking about?" There was no way Blair was going to admit to knowing what was going on in Chuck's life.

"Blair you need to be careful."

"Careful about what? I still hate him I was just here for business."

"You do realise hate is still feeling something and you know how dangerous that can be. You two can't just bury what happened."

"I don't know what you're talking about and that's quite a lot of judgement coming from you S. There is nothing going on and speaking of burying things that have happened, how are you and Nate? Have you spoken about the little incident with Dan?" Blair knew that she was deflecting but she still wasn't ready to face reality and Serena had no proof so there was nothing for her to admit to.

"Blair, you don't need to try and turn this around this on me, I'm just asking you to be careful." Serena knew exactly what Blair was trying to do.

"If there was anything going on then I would agree."

"Ok, S, I better go. Chuck is expecting you."

"Wait! How do you know that?" Blair was gone before she could even answer Serena's question. Serena knew the conversation was over so entered Chuck's office to find him already waiting for her. At least he had attempted to make sure it looked like him and Blair hadn't been up to no good in his office.

"Sis, how can I help?" Chuck asked and ran his hands through his hair.

"Chuck, I really did come here to try and sort things out but what is going on between you and Blair." Serena stepped closer into his office. She didn't want to get involved in another argument with him but she had to know what was going on between them.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Chuck tried to play dumb to see how much Serena really knew as he knew there was no way that Blair would have told her.

"Chuck." Serena sat down in the chair in front of Chuck's desk.

"Sis." Chuck sat down in his chair behind his desk.

"Please be careful. She's already been broken once and you wasn't here to see it." Serena wasn't trying to make Chuck feel bad but she needed to know how serious this was.

"Serena." It was a warning, he know knew Serena thought they were playing a game and it wasn't. He wasn't here to hurt Blair again. It was the last thing he wanted.

"No Chuck, I came here because my mum asked me to. Whether I like it or not you are family and you have been there to help me without judgement. You were right, I should have reached out like you would have done if it was me." It was the real reason Serena had come, she wanted Chuck to know she would be there for him if he wanted her to be.

"Thanks for coming. I appreciate it."

"I'm not done Chuck. She hasn't told you anything that happened with her when we thought you were gone, has she?" She needed to protect Blair.

"I'm not stupid Serena. I know about Columbia."

"That wasn't everything." She should have guessed Chuck would have got his PI to do some digging about the time he was gone.

"And the prince." He didn't want to reveal how much he knew. Chuck knew Blair wouldn't be happy that he hadn't waited for her to tell him and she would see it as an invasion of her privacy.

"How do you know?" She wanted Chuck to admit why he was interested.

"Like I said, I'm not stupid, I'm not back to hurt her."

"I have never seen her like that before. It was worse than when her father left."

"She didn't hurt herself, did she?" He needed to know if he had caused her to go back to her old habit.

"Not that I know of and she didn't tell me if she did." Serena knew what Chuck was referring to.

Chuck was disgusted with himself. "If I had known that people would have thought I was dead I would have come back."

"Would you have done?" She wasn't trying to taunt him but she had a feeling that a part of him ran because he was ashamed of what he done and it wasn't only because he hurt Blair.

"Of course. The most I wanted was to be out of her life so she could move on."

"That's never going to happen."

"What?" Chuck asked confused. He thought Serena would want him out of Blair's life too.

"I may not always agree with what happens between you two but you have a connection, you understand each other and you don't always do it but, you bring out the best in each other. I know everyone thinks it's just Blair that brings out the best in you but it's not true."

"I bring out her dark side. I make her toxic." It was a confession for Chuck. It was why he believed that he could never make Blair truly happy.

"No you don't and as soon as you both realise that maybe you'll stop playing games with each other and everyone else around you. I just have one question for you." Serena could see the pain behind Chuck's eyes.

"Go on."

"Did Eva leave because she met Blair?"

"She wanted to go home." She didn't need to know everything that happened with Eva and he wasn't ready to talk about why Eva left. Blair hadn't been involved and he didn't want people to think she had anything to do with Eva leaving.

"She saved you in an alley and stuck by you. You were in New York for less than forty eight hours and something made her question sticking by you?"

"Gossip Girl doesn't know everything." Chuck knew Serena would have seen the blast that tried to blame Blair for Eva leaving.

"I know Blair didn't scheme to get Eva out of New York but the fact that the last person Eva wanted to see before she left New York was Blair should tell you something."

"Like what?"

"Eva picked up on it."

"Picked up on what?" Chuck wanted to know where Serena was going with this.

"Don't pretend to be stupid now, it doesn't suit you Chuck. You know she knows about the ring, right?"

"I know."

"Did you know she wears it around her neck?"

"Yes, I know she wore it." Chuck brought his hand to massage his temples he was starting to get a headache.

"Wore it? She gave it back didn't she?"

"Yes."

"Eva found out?"

"Yes."

"And that's why she left?"

"It was a part of the reason." There was no point hiding it now. Eva finding out about the ring was the catalyst for her leaving.

"You two can't avoid what happened between you forever. Even Eva knew it. As soon as Blair found out about that ring Chuck she couldn't let go of it because it meant letting go of you. I'm not going to say anymore because she won't be happy with me if I do. I should go." Serena already knew Blair wasn't going to be happy as she had said too much but she started to get up from the chair she was in.

"Serena."

"Yes, Chuck." Serena turned back to look at him

"Thank you." He meant it, he knew Serena was right, he needed to talk to Blair.

She nodded at Chuck and headed out of the door of his office.
