While Penny and Bolt were out for a walk, Rhino and Mittens were bored as usual lying on the stairs observing the area that existed around them. When they got bored with TV they usually took their positions on the stairs (half of the body rested in the shade the other in the sun) and talked exchanging sentences from time to time. Not once it happened that a small quarrel broke out, after which it did not take long to reconcile.
Although the sky was practically cloudless, Mittens managed to notice dark clouds in the distance, which were slowly but inexorably approaching them.
"It's going to rain," Mittens said lifting her muzzle for a moment to get a better view of the clouds.
"You say?"
"mhm"
"As long as Bolt and Penny get back before it rains"
"They will, it will rain at night" replied Mittens to her hamster friend rolling over onto her back.
"How do you know that?" asked a surprised Rhino.
"You know, as a roofie you have to predict the weather. That's what this life is all about. If you don't see clouds like this you go on ahead, if you do you stay."
"Aha... This life means what kind of life?"
"Roofer..."
"Which is?"
"You seriously don't know?" exploded Mittens with a question. Rhino just shook his head calmly in denial.
"Ekh... You see, such rooftops have no roof over their heads, they walk around the city looking for some temporary shelter, they rummage through rubbish to eat something"
"So like you used to?"
"Yeah... So like I used to, you summed it up perfectly" Mittens said somewhat disgusted by Rhino's words.
"Well... But I guess it's better to live like that isn't it?"
"Are you seriously asking that? Yes, of course it's better to live like that..." replied a surprised Mittens. She knew that her friend had a tendency to ask not very smart questions, but with such a question Rhino surprised her even more than ever before.
"Now it's my turn to ask questions," Mittens thought, then rolled over laying on her stomach so she could look in Rhino's direction.
"You had a roof over your head, so why did you walk away from your owner?" asked Mittens. In her head she was already expecting his answer, but she wanted to be sure he wasn't wrong.
"When I watched Bolt to me he wasn't a dog that shoots lasers out of his eyes, he's cool..."
"Wait, but did you just know he played one?" interrupted Mittens, at which the hamster muttered an eyebrow.
"Let me finish... I saw Bolt as a super hero who is able to do anything to make sure nothing happens for his lady, for Penny. In every shot I could see in his eyes how he was trying his best to keep Penny safe. I didn't have to think long when I saw Bolt under my camper... Jeez, but I was excited when I saw that! To be able to see your idol live! " the end of his speech Rhino said almost screaming.
"Well, now it's even living with him" Mittens added.
"Double cult!" exclaimed Rhino being increasingly excited, to which Mittens giggled. She was laughing at the hamster's excitement.
"Tell me, does it bother you that it was all fiction?" asked Mittens next.
"Not everything was fiction after all."
"No?"
"Penny and Bolt's love is real"
"Well, yes... But I'm more concerned with Bolt's powers about his life"
"That I can put up with, but I wouldn't survive if it turned out that Penny and Bolt weren't so connected to each other... It would be so sad, I don't know if I could bear it."
"Well, luckily it's real," replied Mittens.
"Yes... What time is it, anyway? There should be a new episode of Lightning soon!"
"Wait, I'll check," replied Mittens rising from the sun-warmed wooden floor she jumped onto the windowsill and looked at the clock through the clear glass.
"4 p.m."
"In five minutes Lightning! Let's go watch!" shouted an excited Rhino, then she and her feline friend headed inside.
An hour later
"Wow, I can't wait for lightning to go again! I could watch it all the time!" exclaimed Rhino as the episode of the show ended and the final credits began to go. Mittens watched the whole episode with calmness as always, not that she didn't like Bolt, because she did, but she didn't show her discipleship with any movie.
"Yes honestly I preferred how the episodes ran in a real life setting, but all the time Bolt is iconic!"
"It is known to be," Mittens replied, then glanced at the window. It was beginning to sprinkle.
"It's starting to sprinkle... But where's Penny and Bolt?" thought Mittens as she descended from the canals to then jump onto the windowsill from where she could watch the drive home.
"Turn off the TV Rhino, they're coming!" cried Mittens as she saw a dog with a girl on the road. The hamster obediently obeyed Mittens' command by turning off the TV and putting the remote on the glass bench.
"I'll still need you anyway" whispered the hamster towards the remote then walked towards the windowsill.
"You're not jumping in here," pointed out Mittens. When she was spotted by Bolt they exchanged smiles in greeting. A moment later the door opened and two figures appeared in it.
"Hello Bolt"
"Hello kitty" said Mittens.
"Hi to you," said Bolt as the girl took the leash off his neck.
"It got awfully cold, didn't it?" said Penny as she put the leash back on the shelf.
"I'll put something on for you to eat in a minute" said Penny as she went to her room to get another sweatshirt as the one she was wearing was soaked through.
"How's the vet?" asked Mittens Bolt.
"Quite alright, a little sore, but generally fine" replied Bolt.
"You realise you're coming with me next time?" asked Bolt laughing.
"Yeah, yeah... Sure" replied Mittens in a dismissive tone.
"I really mean it, you're already signed up even" added Bolt.
"Why do I need any injections, I feel fine?"
"Just to be safe," replied Bolt. In fact, Penny didn't even need to sign Lightning up because she already has a card where she has future appointments with the animals written down. Bolt thought it was a good way to scare her friend.
Meanwhile, with a new sweatshirt on, Penny came down and headed to the kitchen to prepare a meal for her charges.
"Mmm I can already smell the fish" groaned Mittens already smelling the aftertaste of her meal.
"You can eat" announced Penny, then began preparing food for herself. Meanwhile, the three friends were eating their afternoon snack in peace when a spotlight began to fall from the wall.
"Mum must have arrived," said Penny looking out of the window. She could see immediately by the colour of the car that it was Mum's car. She was supposed to come back earlier, but as it was obvious something made her come back a little later than she intended. In the city you don't know what can happen, sometimes everything will go your way without any problems, sometimes to do one thing you have to spend as much time as you planned to do the whole list.
"Good evening," Penny's mother said as she entered the house with all her morose clothes on. She quickly removed her soaked jacket onto a hanger. Thanks to the fact that the jacket had a hood she had dry hair.
"How is Bolt, weren't you afraid of the injections?" the woman said walking up to the dog patting him on the head.
"He's a brave patient," added Penny sitting down at the table.
"Indeed. I see you're eating, I think I'll be tempted too" said the woman opening the fridge.
In the evening, once everyone had eaten their supper and could look after themselves, Penny with her pets reread the script of the episode. They still had plenty of time to learn the text, but taking advantage of the fact that it was raining outside and they couldn't go outside it would be a good idea to practice the text. Penny had about 40 pages of script to read, so it wasn't particularly much, but not little either. It took the girl about an hour to read the whole script. During this time her mother also listened to the script, because she was bored with watching TV. Bolt, Rhino and Mittens listened to the girl's smooth recitation with curiosity and excitement.
"End of the scene. The end." finished Penny's reading by sorting the pages in the correct order, then she put the stack of cards down on her desk.
"That's what I thought, we need a new agent," the woman said as Penny finished reading the text.
"On the one hand it's good that you threw him out, but on the other hand he made me laugh"
"Fact, he could make you laugh with his behaviour, but he was only interested in money. He didn't care about your welfare"
"There's something in that... Can't you handle the paperwork?"
"Hm? Why do you ask?"
"You haven't talked about the new agent until now"
"well... It's a bit much and you know, it would be good if they were handled by someone who knows better than me"
"Well, yeah..."
"I'll think about it, let you know how he decides. Meanwhile let's go to bed, it's late" the woman said getting up from her chair.
"Good night," she said, then left the room.
"Actually sleeping isn't such a bad idea..." Penny said sleepily. She headed towards the bathroom to have her evening toilette. She always brushed her teeth after dinner, but due to the fact that she was reading a script she did it quite late this time.
"Well... It's goodnight kitty," Mittens said, then she and Rhino were about to leave the room when a lightning bolt stopped them.
"Where are you going?"
"Well, downstairs."
"Stay, no one is throwing you out" said Bolt.
"We won't be disturbed"
"What are you so afraid of? Chill, you can stay" said Bolt. Rhino and Mittens despite their surprise did not leave the room laying down next to the bed.
"Good night everyone" said Rhino then closed his eyes. Mittens did likewise. The only person who didn't fall asleep was Bolt who waited for Penny to return. He didn't wait long because 10 minutes later the bathroom door opened and a girl came out, already dressed in pyjamas. When she entered the room she was a little surprised to find Rhino and Mittens already asleep, only Bolt was sitting on the bed staring at her.
"Well, now I certainly have nothing to be afraid of" Penny giggled, then moving to the other side of the bed she climbed onto the furniture laying down and covering herself with the duvet. Bolt meanwhile lay down next to his friends.
"Good night Bolt," the girl said, then fell asleep. The night had already consumed literally everything, everyone was already asleep. Raindrops were tapping on the window racing against the glass.
