Chapter 7
2 years later, December
Emily walked into the office, the new second assistant was walking out of Miranda's office. The assistant wasn't in any hurry, and looked near tears. Emily guessed that another one this week was fired. They had gone through five assistants, and it was only Thursday.
"Another one bites the dust." Emily murmerd, but she didn't realize that Miranda had just walked in from her office.
"What was that?" Miranda asked, challenging.
"I, U-uh nothing Miranda," Emily stood up to prepare for whatever Miranda wanted. Nigel walked in, he handed her a sheet of paper. And whispered something inaudible, to Miranda.
"have Emily pre-interview her, I'm going out." Miranda snapped
Emily scrambled out from behind her desk, and grabbed Miranda's coat and bag. Miranda ripped them out of Emily's hands, and left angrily. She was terrified that she had made Miranda angry, but her thoughts were caught short when Nigel spoke.
"Andrea Sachs" Nigel said,
Emily aggressively turned her head around in an angry way. "What?" Emily demanded
"Wow, calm down. That's the woman's name, the one you are going to interview.
"Fuck"
Nigel was confused. "Is that bad? Do you know her?"
"If it the Andrea Sachs I know, she incompetent and a back stabber." Emily said
"Why, did she date your high school crush?" Nigel said teasingly
Emily glared at him "If only, that were the case"
"Ooh, drama I actually want to hear about for once."
Emily rolled her eyes, Serena walked in. And Emily's phone dinged, saying Andrea was at Elias-Clark."I'll tell you and Serena during lunch.
"whats this about Nigel wanting to hear drama?" Serena teased
"Emily hates the girl who she is interviewing," Nigel said.
"Who is it?" Serena asked
"Andrea Sachs" Emily replied haughty
"No!" Serena exclaimed
"Yes!" Emily replied
"I don't know who that is!" Serena said jokingly, Emily rolled her eyes, and Nigel laughed. "Let us know how it went at lunch."
Emily, Serena, and Nigel had lunch together everyday. But lately Emily hasn't been able to go, because she is doing interviews, or doing two people's work.
Emily walked down to the front door of the floor. And saw the brunette she absolutely hated.
"I have an appointment with Emily Ch-" She paused.
"Andrea Sachs" Emily snapped, Andrea made a deer in the headlights face, when she saw Emily "Human resources suddenly have an odd sense of humor. Follow me"
Emily hated the whole thing, when Miranda came back, Emily was told that Caroline was in jail, because she was drinking and driving. Everyone raced around while Andrea had the luxury of just standing there. When Emily Walked in Miranda wasn't more feistier than usual.
Emily noticed a little blonde boy by her side. The boy stared at her the entire time. He looked about Skylar's age. Miranda and the boy sat down in her office, the boy had some toys that he was playing with.
"Where is Mommy?" the boy asked
"She is… taking some time off." Miranda replied
"What were the flashing lights?"
"Nothing, sweetheart", Miranda looked as if she were going to kill somebody "Emily!" Miranda called. Emily scurried into the office. "New girl?" Miranda said Impatiently.
A few seconds after, the brunette was in her office. Just looking at the girl made Miranda more angry, "no wonder Emily didn't want to bring her in" Miranda thought.
The girl kept talking about some stuff Miranda started to tune out. Once the girl left, Miranda started thinking about it and decided to have Emily go get her.
"Emily!" Miranda called again, still annoyed. "Go get her," Miranda said to the gittery redhead.
"Yes, Miranda" Emily replied
A few minutes later Emily found Andrea, Emily was hoping and praying that Andrea wouldn't last long, so she didn't have to deal with the brunette. Emily found her and sighed.
"Andrea!" Emily Called out annoyed
"Yes" Andrea replied
Emily rolled her eyes and motioned for her to follow. Andrea got the job, that made Emily the maddest Emily has ever been, and she has been plenty mad.
Lunch
Emily was acctually able to go to the bar they usually go to. Nigel and Serena were talking, they were sitting on two bar stools at the bar counter.
"Strongest drink you have" Emily told the bartender
"Are you okay?" Serena asked, genuinely concerned.
"No, Andrea bloody Sachs got the job" Emily replied
"Are you serious?" Serena asked
"Yes"
"Who is this Andrea, and why do you hate her so much?" Nigel asked
"When I was in high school my family and I moved to Missouri for a few years, Andrea moved to Missouri as from Ohio, I think temporarily as well."
The bartender put her drink on the counter, "Careful, it's deadly," he told her. Then left to help another customer. She drank almost all of the tall glass in a few seconds. They all liked this place because they made their drinks really strong, and there was a lot in each glass, they rarely gave just shots.
"Anyway" Emily continued "When we were in high school, we were inseparable. However, I like both girls and guys. So, I asked her out, and she said yes." Emily took another sip of her drink. "after a while of dating we had been struggling but I didn't think that it was as bad as it was. I didn't think I would find her kissing my ex. I loved Andrea so much, I would've taken a bullet or a knife if it meant she would be safe or happy."
Emily picked up the glass and finished the rest of it. Serena and Nigel exchanged glances, then looked at Emily. She practically chugged another glass then went back to Elias-Clark.
"Hello Miranda, can I do anything for you?" Emily asked
"Watch him," Miranda ordered, Emily looked at the kid.
"Ok Miranda,"
"That's all"
Miranda left, ignoring Emily. Who was holding up her coat and bag. The boy just stood there not knowing what to do. Emily
Two hours later
Miranda and Caroline walked in the office, they stopped and stared at Emily, Emily didn't have much to work on, other than running errands. The boy was on another chair next to her, she had a sketch book on the table. She finished drawing something and leaned back, he drew something on the paper.
"That's great!" Emily told him.
"Yours is a lot better" the boy replied
"No, yours is amazing"
Leo chuckled, "thanks" Miranda smiled, he seemed to like Emily. "Mommy!" Leo screamed in excitement. He ran over to Caroline. Emily looked up at Miranda, and looked back down at her desk.
"Look what Emily drew for me," Leo held the brightly colored and flawlessly shaded picture, the basketball had fire on the back of it. Miranda raised her eyebrows in surprise, Miranda realised Emily's head was down.
"Emily" Miranda said, she looked at Miranda, waiting for a task. "Good job," she mouthed. Emily looked surprised,
"Thank you" Emily mouthed back
Miranda noticed Emily was extremely pale, more than usual. She also noticed that Emily looked depressed, she overall looked like she was a part of the Addams family.
"Leo, stay out here with Emily for a few more minutes, I'm going to talk with your mother." Miranda told the boy.
"Ok" Leo said cheerfully,
he walked back over to Emily, and continued doing whatever they were doing before. They walked into Miranda's office and shut the doors.
"Caroline, how could you do that, with Leo in the car!"
"Mom I'm sorry,"
"You are 19! What did I do so terribly wrong? That causes you to drink under age and do drugs? What did I do? Cassidy doesn't, yeah maybe she has a drink every once in a while, but nothing like this!"
"Mom" Caroline tries again
"You put your sister in the hospital" Miranda said coldly, tears threatening to fall down her face.
"Ok, fine!" Caroline screamed,
Emily could hear them through the almost sound proof doors.
Why not we go somewhere else." Emily told Leo,
"Nigel, please manage the desk, he shouldn't hear this." Emily said.
"Will do" he replied,
Emily grabbed Leo's hand and took him around the building.
"You want to know what you did wrong!" Caroline screamed at Miranda, "You keep comparing me to Cassidy!" There were fresh tears running down Caroline's face,"it's always Cassidy this, Cassidy that, or Caroline, why can't you be more like your sister Cassidy!" She mimicked "You have no Idea how much that hurts!" Caroline screamed.
"I'm sorry, that was not right for me to do that to you, but is it really worth possibly killing her?" the air in the room lightened, tears were running down Miranda's face as well.
Nigel called Emily letting her know that they were quiet. She walked in the office,
"Were there any calls?" Emily asked
"No, has it been quiet today?" Nigel asked
"Yeah, it's creepy quiet today"
"I'll tell you and Serena their conversation after work. Trust me you want to hear."
Emily looked at Leo
Mike
The war was finally over, the other side surrendered. He was finally able to go home to Emily, Skylar, and he would finally be able to meet Jackson. He was looking at a picture of him and Emily, they were standing in front of the London Bridge, and she was two months pregnant at the time, she was holding Skylar in her right arm. Mike was excited to see her again and finally be home.
Once he arrived in New York, he bought a bouquet of red and white roses. And a V shaped graduated diamond necklace. And the V went across the entire neck, not just a V on a chain.
He got to the apartment, and hid behind the wall that cut off the kitchen from the living room.
8:00
Emily's mom had already come home with Skylar and Jackson, he spent a lot of time with his son. They heard the door knob start to turn, but it was locked. He ran into the kitchen, and Emily's mom took Skylar and Jackson into her room.
Emily grabbed a book off of the side cabinet in the living room. And gave the book to another woman. The woman left without saying anything, all of the sudden Emily started crying.
He walked over to her, she was on her knees, her head was down, and her eyes were closed. She didn't notice him walk over, he kneeled in front of her. He wiped a tear off her cheek,
"what's going on?" Mike asked softly
"Mike!" Emily cried, she threw her arms around him. After a few minutes he picked Emily up off the floor, she laughed and put her arms around his neck. He laid her down on the couch, he kneeled beside the couch, he lightly kissed her.
She kissed him again, she wrapped her hands around his back. He put his hands around her waist. They went into the kitchen, he gave her the flowers and necklace.
"I love you" Mike whispered in her ear, and kissed her again.
