Chapter Seven: A Heated Party
"Awww, look at you, you got so big both of you" Kagome cooed while tickling Kimiko's belly. The baby giggled and waved her little chubby hands to try and catch Kagome's hair who had tied it in a high ponytail to avoid just that.
It was Saturday evening and she had decided to come and visit Sango's twins finally, they were planning to eat and watch a film together. Initially, she had wanted to bring Souta with her and ask Sango to invite her brother too. However, Grampa had told them that Sota was grounded because of the suspension so he was forced to spend his Saturday night alone with his grandfather.
"Yeah? I can't believe it's been already seven months, thank God they had passed that phase where they woke up every couple of hours. They still like to cause a ruckus at night, but less than that" Sango said next to her. Kagome picked Kimiko up and bounced her a little, the little girl still giggling happily.
"Aww, you're so happy you got to see your godmother again" Kagome giggled back at her, her laughter was contagious. They both reached the living room with the twins where Miroku had already settled everything for their movie night.
"So, Kagome, how is going with Bankotsu? Sango told me you had a big crush on him back when you were still in college..." Miroku started curiously. She was a little sister to him and since her mother had died both he and Sango acted like their bodyguards. Sango liked to crack jokes about her singleness, but she would always defend herself if something was to happen.
Kagome snorted loudly and both the spouses turned to her raising their brows.
"Is something wrong with him, Kagome-chan?" Sango asked cautiously.
"We got in a little argument yesterday when I went to his house" Kagome explained while sitting and adjusting Kimiko in her lap.
"He didn't try anything you didn't want to do, did he?" she immediately asked with a menacing tone.
"Oh, God, Sango, no! He never tried more, he respects me," Kagome replied, "but he got a little too jealous to my liking."
"What did he do?"
"Well..." she turned to Miroku, "I know you have been listening to everything I said to Sango on the phone, Miroku."
"Who? Me? Kagome your lack of trust really wound me" he said while bringing his hand to his heart. Kagome looked at him in disbelief, "Ok, ok, but you know, in marriage one shouldn't ever keep secrets" he quickly added.
Kagome laughed and then nodded, then got serious again, "If you say any of what I am going to tell here to your dog eared friend I'm gonna make sure you'll never have a son." He gulped and tilted his head swiftly, "Good then, Bankotsu wasn't really pleased with Inuyasha's display the other day and tried to tell me that I shouldn't have personal contact with..." she got interrupted by Miroku.
"Wait, you mean when he separated you two while you were kissing Bankotsu, right?"
"And I presume this is included in the marriage deal from before?"
"Actually, it was Inuyasha who told me that first, then Sango told me the rest," he replied, "He seemed very angry about that" he smirked at Kagome.
Sango nudged her. "What did I told you? He wants you!"
"Sango, stop that! As I was saying before Miroku interrupted, Bankotsu got angry because..."
"Because he realized the same thing I told you, that Inuyasha likes you and now he is jealous since you're not even a couple yet" Sango continued for her.
"Really? You found each other since you are equally annoying" Kagome snapped.
"But it's like my dear Sango said, isn't it?" Miroku pried.
"Not everything, he practically insisted saying that he was only worried about me and when he found out I was going to the company's party with him he tried to convince me not to go. I should be wary of these kinds of men, Bankotsu says, Inuyasha being my boss doesn't give him the right to sexually harass me. I mean, who does he thinks he is? I am more than capable to take care of myself, I don't like when others try to tell me what it's better for me. Just because he feels intimidated doesn't give him the right to think I'd let Inuyasha have his way with me! God, it's such a lack of trust and especially it tells me how delicate he thinks I am. I don't want anyone, no one to believe that just because of what happened three years go I am fragile or breakable. I've always stood up for myself and I'll always do it. I don't need anyone to do it for me" she let out while tears of frustration fell down her cheeks.
Miroku promptly took both the twins while Sango pulled Kagome in a tight embrace, "Shh, it's alright, Kagome-chan..." she rubbed her back while she cried in her arms. "No one thinks less of you just because of what happened. If else, we know full well how these last three years have been difficult for you and we value you for all that you have been able to accomplish. For getting back up immediately, you thought of your brother and grandfather, and even now you are working hard to make sure they have everything they need. You have shown that you have more fortitude than anyone else, Kagome-chan, but also know that every now and then it's good to let off steam. But no matter what, you know that we'll be always next to you, you know it, don't you?"
Kagome tightened her grip on her, "You have any idea how much I am grateful for your presence, both of you. Without you I'm not sure I could accomplish anything" she said truthfully.
Sango cupped her face and wiped some tears with her thumbs, "That's what family is for, right? and you, Sota, Grandpa, are part of ours so it's only natural that we'll always be there. Don't think about Bankotsu, or Inuyasha for the matter, let's enjoy our movie night. Take your time, in a couple of days, when you feel ready, try to talk to him and explain your point of view. And if it doesn't go well, it means it wasn't meant to be" she winked.
It was finally the day of the party and Kagome was looking at herself in the mirror, waiting for Inuyasha to pick her up. No one was at the shrine since Grampa was in Kyoto and Sota was at Sango's mother's, he was going to spend the evening with Kohaku and Miroku would drive him back after the party.
She was wearing a long red slit dress with a V-neck line and spaghetti straps that hugged her curves perfectly, to complete her look she had chosen a pair of black stiletto and a clutch of the same colour. She also wore a long necklace whose pendant rested just above the bulge of her breast and a pair of matching earrings. She had kept her make-up light with nude lipstick and black mascara.
She had gone shopping with Sango that Sunday to find the perfect dress for the event and she had fallen in love with this one. Sango had told her that she would have likely caused all the men to fall at her feet and that Inuyasha would spend the entire evening chasing away unwanted suitors. Not to mention that he wouldn't be able to take his eyes off of her, Kagome had groaned at that.
Of course, she wanted to dress impeccably but she was afraid of the half-demon's reaction seeing the precedents. She sent a picture of the ensemble at Sango to which she answered with the emoticon of a lion and fire flames. She rolled her eyes.
Just when Kagome was going down the stairs to reach the living room she got a text from Inuyasha that informed her he had arrived and a couple of seconds later she heard a light knock on her door. She went to open it and was greeted by the image of a half-demon dressed in a dark blu suit and a white button-down shirt underneath. She was going to open her mouth when she noticed the way he was looking at her from head to toe, she could swear she felt the air suck out of the foyer when Inuyasha drew in a sharp breath.
"Ok, maybe I'm just a little bit nervous," Inuyasha thought while leaving his apartment right on time and heading toward his car to go pick his date up. Since the day Koga had come to his office he had been thinking about Kagome more and more often and not just about her body as had happened to him throughout the first month she had worked as her assistant. He had realized that he didn't mind her company at all, or the way she promptly responded to his every joke or attempt to make her angry, or that sweet smile she had in the morning when she arrived at the office and greeted him. It also didn't help him that Sesshomaru continued to tease him or that his mother hadn't stopped talking about the fact he was going to bring Kagome to the party.
"I'm really going crazy if I'm starting to like her" he shook his head. And crazy he was, indeed, since every time he thought about that bastard who was kissing her that morning he was taken by a fit of absurd jealousy and wished he could be at his place. What would their lips taste? What would have he felt when he managed to catch them in a kiss?
He put her address on the GPS and it didn't take him long to get there. He parked his convertible at the end of an immense staircase and looking closely he realized that this was the place. At the top of the stairs, he saw the Tori that could be found in any Shinto temple and at that moment he understood also that she was the girl his mother had spoken so much about, the shrine she visited regularly was Kagome's family's shrine. Arriving at the top of the stairs he immediately noticed the famous God Tree his family had always talked about and that was one of the reasons his mother came here to pray.
"Look at the coincidences."
He quickly sent her a next to warn her he had arrived and a couple of seconds later he knocked lightly on the door of a modest two-story house, listening to the sound of her heels came near and her heartbeat racing. As soon as she opened the door and he took a good look at her he literally lost every word he had thought about for the perfect greeting.
Kagome was stunning, her hair fell wavy over her bare shoulders, her dress hugged her curves perfectly without being indecent, it had a long slit that started mid-tight on the right and showed her slender leg, the high-heels brought her a little more to his height but Inuyasha could still have a good view of her breasts thanks to the v-neck and the pendant that surely was an eye-catcher. How in the seven hells was he going to take his eyes off her during the whole evening? He gulped soundly and tried to find the right words, but he couldn't.
Suddenly the sound of her crystalline laughter filled his ears. Inuyasha raised his eyes to look up at her, her cheeks were slightly tinted of her and she was genuinely smiling, "I presume you approve then?" she said.
"A-approve?" he looked at her agape, "Kagome, you're beautiful, more than ever. You're probably the first woman to make my words fail me" he admitted.
He wasn't being his usual cocky self and even if he had spent some minutes to bask in her looks, he had done it differently than other times. She didn't detect the usual hunger in his eyes, just true appreciation and for once she didn't mind the way he was clearly admiring her.
"Shall we go?" he nodded without uttering a word and left the foyer to give her time to lock the door. When she turned Inuyasha noticed that her shoulder was bare and he gulped again, loosing the collar of his shirt. That was definitely going to be a long night.
The party was held at the event hall of a luxury hotel that was located not far from the company building and a lot of tycoons, business partners, members of the high society or those who worked in the sector were coming. Kagome suddenly felt knotted up inside. Inuyasha noticed her heartbeat increasing abnormally and came closer, "Hey, you have nothing to be worried about, it's just dinner. We'll talk a bit, dance only if you want, and then I'll drive you back home" he said.
"You make it seem easy but you've been attending these events all your life, while I shouldn't even be here. I don't fit into this environment and instead, I'm here as your date and you're one of the most important figures of this evening, I'm going to make you look bad" Kagome bubbled on.
"Make me look bad? Kagome, have you had a look at yourself? I'll be the envy of the whole hall, everyone will see that I'm so lucky to have the most beautiful woman present." he grinned and put a hand on the small of her back to guide her toward the entrance, a shiver ran through her body at his light touch. His hand moved slightly lower, dangerously close to her bum after just a couple of seconds and Kagome turned to him with a dark glare. The hand immediately went up.
"Admit it, you invited me just to have the possibility to grope him without being too noticeable," she told him.
"Now I recognize you," Inuyasha laughed, "but I didn't do anything wrong my dear" he winked. "Come, let's find out my family or Sango and Miroku."
It didn't take long to catch sight of the tall and slender figure that was Sesshomaru who had his arm around Rin's petite waist. They were conversing amiably with an older couple. Inuyasha and Kagome reached them and bowed in greeting before the older couple left them.
"Kagome! You're astounding, I can't believe this dumbass here convinced you to come with him. Half of the room, I mean, the whole room has eyes fixed on you" Rin admired her in awe.
"Well, convince is a big word, he told me I was going to come as his date and that was it" Kagome laughed but then turned to glare at Inuyasha half-heartedly. "No other options."
"Inuyasha! That's not the way you woo the woman you like, I thought your mother and I taught you better" his sister-in-law scolded him.
He suddenly was divided between the impulse to throttle her and the desire to disappear in a hole into the ground. Kagome raised her brow at him and Sesshomaru snickered lightly, he had been right that first day when he had thought he would have fun with Kagome working for them. Just the fact she gave him the possibility to tease his little brother was a plus.
"Oh, believe me, Rin, he still has a lot to learn," Kagome remarked laughing under her sleeves.
Inuyasha turned his head fast as lighting, "Really? You wouldn't last a second if I was to woo you intentionally" he told her.
Kagome rolled her eyes, "I don't think there's a way for a lecher like you to turn into the perfect gentleman."
"Is that a dare?" Kagome shrugged, "Because you should already know I like challenges."
"Look at that, Sesshy, they are already bickering like an old married couple" Rin awed at them, a hand held to her heart.
"WHAT?"
"Little brother, please, contain yourself, be the perfect gentleman for your date," Sesshomaru answered, "if you are looking for a much private location to train your wooing skills you will have to wait a little more" he added.
Kagome turned bright red and had to stop Inuyasha from murdering his brother by gripping his arm. "Come one, Inuyasha, he is just teasing you. It's how it works between brothers after all."
"Well said, Miss Higurashi, I hope your manners will rub off my brother soon enough. It was really a good idea to hire you and maybe he will learn something more from your being together too" Sesshomaru answered, shifting the object of his teasing to her.
"You still think is a good guy, Kagome?" Inuyasha asked then.
At that moment Sango and Miroku reached them, she was wearing a dark blue sheath dress with a heart-shaped neckline with matched heels and a silver clutch. "Kagome-chan, you already here" she said hugging her and them promptly greeting the other that were presents. "Rin, that colour looks so good on you" she added noticing her peach empire dress.
"You're so beautiful yourself, Sango," the woman shot back, "those men are so lucky to have us" she giggled merrily. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes inwardly.
Meanwhile, Miroku was looking at Kagome pensive, as if he was trying to remember something and then he lighted up. "Kagome, isn't your grandfather away?" he asked.
"Yes, Miroku, he's visiting a Shrine with Yoshiro-san" she offered. He gasped, the whole group turned to him, "What?" Kagome asked.
"And you left Sota alone at the shrine!"
Kagome looked at him as if he had grown a second head, Sango slapped him on the back of his head, "Oi, what was that for?"
"Maybe this way your memory comes back, or maybe you're suffering from premature Alzheimer since you talked with Sota just 20 minutes ago when we left the twins to my mother" Sango reminded him.
"I did?"
Sango rolled her eyes, "Yes! He's staying with mom because Kagome had to come here and couldn't stay alone at the shrine. You even offered her to drive him back after the party!"
"And you better do it, Miroku," Kagome said menacingly.
The man waved his hands in front of him frantically, "I was kidding, I was kidding, how could forget about him."
Inuyasha was about to ask about this Sota, he had been thinking at the kid for a week now and he couldn't just ask Kagome out of the blue, but if someone else approached the subject...
His chance blew out when they were interrupted once again, this time by his parents.
"Kagome! It's really you then" Izayoi exclaimed hugging her tightly. "Look at you, this dress looks magnificent on you, and it's definitely different from the miko robes I usually see you in. It's so nice to meet you here."
Kagome was shocked, why was Izayoi here? She glanced at the man to her right and recognized him as Toga Taisho, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father. Then everything clicked, he was the demon Izayoi was married to, all this time she had been knowing Inuyasha's mother. How little was the world?
"My sons told me they hired a Kagome Higurashi and I thought about you, but I wasn't sure if Ichiro had a daughter or a son, so I didn't know what your surname really was. I'm happy to see it's you, and we even talked about your new job" she giggled.
"Yeah, that's really a coincidence, actually," Kagome hugged her back, "it's nice to see you too, Izayoi."
"Oh, Toga I'm so happy she's the same girl, you deserved this chance, Kagome," the woman said, tears welling up. Kagome didn't know what to say, Inuyasha, Sesshomaru and Rin were exchanging looks, a silence grew around the group until Toga spoke up.
"So, your Ichiro's granddaughter? You're really a beautiful lady, he must be proud of you. I meet him when he was still young, newly married I think, you actually remind me of the woman who was his wife" he said, "apart from your smile, definitely brighter." He turned to his son, "Inuyasha, I hope you're treating your lady in the best way possible."
Inuyasha wanted to disappear for real now, it seems that everyone was trying to embarrass him. Besides, he wasn't understanding half of the things they were saying.
"We were just talking about that, dad" Rin chirped in.
Inuyasha pulled Kagome near him and wrapped his arm tightly around her waist in response, "Of course, father. But now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to have a dance with my date" he said just before dragging Kagome towards the dance floor and leaving a laughing group of people.
"It seems I was right, after all, he really likes her," Sesshomaru noted, "hopefully it won't end as with the other woman."
"Ehi, bossman, I'm the one who told you in confidence about your brother. You don't pay much attention to him during working hours to notice something like that, if it wasn't for me you wouldn't even have the joy of teasing him" Sango interjected. "I should be the one to take the merits."
Sesshomaru waved her off, "It doesn't matter Sango, it was plainly evident this evening too."
"You told Sesshomaru what Kagome told you? And he was complaining about me eavesdropping" Miroku huffed.
"There's no grace in doing something like that, Miroku" the dog demon replied.
"Oh, shush all of you," Izayoi said while looking at the couple who was now dancing. "My baby is in love" she squealed, "they're perfect for each other, I just know it! We'll have to organize another wedding soon and maybe grandchildren too, since these two here aren't giving me some right now" she added while glancing at Sesshomaru and Rin.
"Izayoi, dear, don't you think you're overreacting a bit?"
Inuyasha and Kagome were dancing a slow one, he had her pressed against him and his hands on her waist, her hands wrapped around his neck.
"Make you sure your hands don't get lower than this" Kagome told him menacingly, fixing him with beady eyes.
"Who do you think I am? I'm acting as the perfect gentleman, after all" he smirked.
"I think you are the same half-demon who has an obsession with my butt" Kagome replied.
"You can't blame a male for being appreciative of the good things in life," Inuyasha laughed while bringing his face closer to her, "but since you challenged me earlier, I'll show you this evening how I can be the perfect gentleman despite what you think."
"And if you're not? You'll stop with your lecherous comments for real?" she raised her brow at him.
"Oi, that would need a lot of control, wench."
"You see? You're already backing out. You're hopeless!" she shook her head and then leaned over his shoulder.
Inuyasha sighed inwardly, that felt good.
"I'm not! If you win I'll stop my comment but just for a week" he proposed.
Kagome raised her eyes to look up at him, "I guess I cannot expect more from you", she shrugged.
"And if I win..." he let the suspense grow for a couple of seconds then continued, "you'll let me kiss you when I drive you back."
"Inuyasha" she hissed, slamming a hand on his chest, "you can't ask me something like that, I'm still seeing someone else. It's not correct."
"Look who's backing out now," he grinned, "weren't you the one who just a couple of minutes ago said that I can't act like the proper gentleman? If you believe it so much then you won't have problems settings these terms. Or are you afraid you'll lose?"
"I am sooo good, she definitely fell for it" he mentally patted his back for his geniality.
Kagome narrowed her eyes, "You did it on purpose, you had it all planned out."
Inuyasha pulled her closer again, "Who? Me? You really wound me sometimes, Kagome, thinking so low of me" he tutted.
"Yeah, because everyone knows how much an angel you are" she snorted.
"Exactly!" he laughed continuing to move slowly following the notes of the next song. "It's settled then," he declared, "by the end of this evening you'll have to kiss me."
"So, Kagome, I guess I should thank you if my son's work life is finally more organized" Toga commented while they were at the table dining.
Kagome giggled, Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "It's not like I'm unable to do my job, dad. If I recall correctly, I'm the only one here who is capable of supervising my department."
"And I'm proud of you for that, son. I'm just saying that your organizational skills are lacking and that without a secretary you'd be lost" his father specified.
"Indeed, everything was a mess when I started" Kagome agreed while she observed the exchange amused.
"It's not my fault it's difficult to find reliable assistants" the half-demon replied.
"That's why I was here for you, Inuyasha," Sango interjected, "where would you men be without us?" she chuckled. More rolling of eyes followed her statement.
"Had you already worked as a secretary before? I understand you're doing your job with Inuyasha quite nicely" Toga asked her again. Izayoi hit him in the ribs, he looked at her in disbelief.
Kagome didn't know how to answer, since this was technically the owner of the company, "Well, sir, actually this is my first experience in this field" she replied truthfully.
Toga nodded, still not understanding the glares his mate was sending at him. He continued nonetheless, "Yes, you are quite young after all, I guess you're fresh graduated. Despite it, I can see how much you are standing up for yourself and learning fast too. I hope you will continue in this direction." Another hit followed this statement.
Sesshomaru shook his head, his father and brother could be so similar sometimes.
"What? I was merely chatting with our young lady here and complimenting her for the way she is dealing with Yash. I mean, we know his precedents" the dai-youkai told his mate.
"I appreciate, sir, but I'm not graduated. I had to leave college a couple of years ago due to some family matters. Nonetheless, I'm striving to do my best every day at work and I'm glad of the chance your sons have given me" she replied.
"Oh," Toga said peering at his mate again and realizing why she had been glaring at him all this time. He cleared his throat, "Yes, I remember Izayoi telling me something like this. I'm sorry. But anyway, don't worry about that, you're doing good anyway, and stop calling me sir, it makes me feel old, Toga is fine" he chuckled sheepishly.
Inuyasha glanced at both of his parents trying to understand what they were talking about, everyone else seemed to be in the known, he mentally huffed. "Dad, you are ancient, not old," he told him.
"Inuyasha, pay some respects, I appear as young as a millennium ago" he chuckled merrily.
"It must have been fantastic to experiences all these changes, practically living through history" Kagome commented with dreamy eyes.
Toga nodded, "You learn a lot of things this way, even if thinking about my whole life sometimes I tend to confuse some events. You must have a good memory to remember all. Isn't true, Sesshomaru?"
"Indeed, father."
"Kagome was studying History in college, she has always been fond of myths and legend. I guess that being raised by Gramps rubbed her off" Sango laughed.
"Really? I'd have to tell you some stories or even show you some artefacts when you come to dinner on Friday" Toga offered then turned to his mate, "they are coming, aren't they?"
She nodded, "Yes, Ichiro confirmed their presence the other day. I think he will appreciate your offer as well," she remarked.
"Definitely. Grampa has always been so fond of history. Indeed, as Sango was saying, growing up listening to his stories helped my passion for history."
"It's settled then, I'll be looking for something special these days just to show you."
The evening finally ended, Inuyasha was driving Kagome back and Miroku had already gone to pick Sota up to bring him back to the shrine. Inuyasha could feel her nervousness and internally grinned because he knew well what was causing it. He had refrained the whole evening to make witty remarks or his usual comments, he hadn't touched her, he had been polite and nice and even Sesshomaru had looked at him strangely observing the way he was acting.
Inuyasha had shaken his head at him and smirked because he knew he would definitely win this bet. Now, while he kept his eyes on the streets he couldn't help but think about what would happen as soon as he drove her home and how much he would appreciate his sweet victory.
"You okay, Kagome? You've been awful quiet since we left the hotel" Inuyasha asked her feigning ignorance.
Kagome simply nodded then realized that he couldn't exactly see her and said, "Everything is good, Inuyasha."
"You had fun?"
"Very" she replied.
"Even if you said that I hadn't given you any possibilities to refuse?"
"That is true and you know it."
He shrugged, "Yes, but in the end, everything went perfectly good and I could even show you off with some of our partners" he smirked. "Did you see the face Koga made when he looked at you?" he laughed, "it was so fun! He so wanted to be in my place!"
"You two are the same," Kagome retorted, "I don't see anything funny in that!"
Inuyasha stopped immediately laughing, "Oi! Do not compare me with the mangy wolf, I can treat women better than him. And apropos, don't you dare to accept if he asks you out" he added while gripping the wheel tighter.
"What?" she asked befuddled turning to face him, "Why would I? He seems worst than you" she snorted, "but don't think I'd refuse just because you told me to." She glared at him, "I so hate men who tell me what to do." Her anger flared up at the thought of the other night at Bankotsu's.
Inuyasha immediately noticed her change in demeanour, "Woa, Woa, I was kidding you know, I already noticed you don't like the wolf by the way you were looking at him this evening, I'd never tell you to do something that doesn't concern our job" he hastily told her. "Did I touch a sore spot? Who are these men, your boyfriend maybe?"
Kagome snorted, "I was speaking in general, and it's not of your concern as long as you remember what I told you. Besides, he's not my boyfriend, we're dating."
Yeah, a sore spot and he definitely did something.
"Seems the same to me" he shrugged.
"It's not, being in a relationship involves several things more than simple dating. You should know since you were with psycho-girl" Kagome remarked.
"Whatever makes you sleep at night, Ka-Go-Me" he chuckled. They were finally at the shrine, he parked on the same lot as before, "We are here." He didn't wait for her to answer him and swiftly got out of the car and reached the passenger side to open her door. The evening hasn't finished yet, after all, he still has to act the part. He held out his arm to her when they were about to go up the stairs and said, "better get some help since these stairs are endless and your heels could very well pass as death's instrument" he cracked up. Kagome complied and they easily reach the front door.
"Well, thank you for bringing me home and for the nice evening. Your family is really nice and it was really a surprise to find Izayoi was your mother" Kagome said and made to open the door when Inuyasha stopped her grabbing her wrist.
"Ehi, now, aren't you forgetting something?" Inuyasha was grinning like the Cheshire cat.
"Noo? I don't think so, I have everything I need." she feigned innocence.
"I don't think so," he shot back and without waiting more he promptly cupped her face and caught her lips with his for the first time. Their kiss was tender at first but quickly escalated into something more deep and passionate. A shiver ran through her body, she slipped her arms up around his neck instinctively and he moved a hand to her neck to tilt her head and deepen their kiss. She moaned into his mouth because of the intensity with which he was kissing her and Inuyasha took the opportunity to slip his tongue inside her and after the initial shock, she returned the kiss with as much fervour, her tongue participating with enthusiasm. He put his other hand to her waist and pressed her body against his, grinding his hips into hers. Kagome raised her hands to the top of his head and finally caressed his ears, they were so soft, immediately she could hear a slight vibration coming from him, almost as a growl. At the same time, she started feeling the reaction this kiss was causing in him as Inuyasha keep pushing his hips and she felt his erection probing her core.
She immediately stiffened and Inuyasha noticed, he broke the kiss and rested his forehead on hers, both gasping slightly. He kept her close, but stopped his movements, realizing the reason why she probably had gone still in his arms. "It's ok, I'm sorry. It's just.." he definitely didn't expect her to feel so good, it was even better than what he had thought and he couldn't have avoided the desire that shot through his body, nor his arousal. Instead of finishing his sentence, he began trailing feathery kisses across her nose, her cheek, her jaw and then her neck, his hands travelled down the bare skin of her arms and her back and she melted on the inside again because of the warmth his kisses were eliciting. Inuyasha was showing much more attention at the juncture between her neck and shoulder, nipping and suckling and goosebumps were raising all over her, just when she thought she couldn't take more and that she could die because of the sheer desire Inuyasha had poured into those kisses, they heard someone clearing his throat behind them.
They both jumped and turned, but Inuyasha didn't let go of her, if anything his grip tightened around her. There, in front of them, a young kid was smirking widely, arms crossing and brow raised. He was taller than Kagome and his body still slim, brown light hair and a pair of chocolate brown eyes that were the same shade as Kagome's.
"It seems you had fun at this party, sis," he told Kagome.
The girl fought Inuyasha's grip and managed to free herself. She brought a lock of hair behind her hair and then answer, "Sota! Inuyasha was keeping me company while I was waiting for Miroku to bring you home" she explained, "go inside, tomorrow you still have to wake up soon for school" she instructed.
Sota laughed merrily, "Yeah, I presume he was doing his job at keeping you company good since you clearly didn't notice me standing next to you" he teased.
"Sota! I don't like to repeat myself, shut up and go inside" Kagome scolded him madly blushing. Her brother followed his instruction, waved at Inuyasha and got inside, his laughter echoing in the empty foyer.
"Sis? This is Sota?" Inuyasha thought while watching the sibling bickering.
"Uh, well, Inuyasha, thanks again, I'm going to bed now," she told him, avoiding his eyes after what they had just shared. The kiss had been nothing like what she had experienced before and she had thought that Bankotsu was a greater kisser. But Gods, Inuyasha was unbelievable. Kagome wouldn't have been able to look him straight into the eyes for a while.
Inuyasha chuckled at her shyness and once again pulled her in a tight embrace, he cupped her face and forced her to look up at him. "Now we are sure that you didn't forget anything" he winked, "we should bet some other times, I wouldn't mind kissing you again sometime soon" he pecked her slightly and then, quick as lightning he was gone, leaving Kagome speechless in the doorway.
Sota arrived behind her, placed an arm around her shoulder and said, "Isn't Inuyasha the same boss who spend time making lecherous comments and telling you how much he appreciates your body?" Kagome nodded meekly. "Let me tell you something, sis, you're not doing a good job making him understand his advances are not welcome" he mocked her.
Kagome slapped his arm away, "Shut up! He tricked me into a bet tonight and I had to let him kiss me" she shot back entering the house.
Sota followed her, still laughing, "It didn't seem like you weren't enjoying his actions."
"SHUT UP!"
The next morning it was with much anxiety that she set out for work and prepared to face her employer. When she arrived at her office, she went straight to work and greeted him with a quick good morning without looking up from the files she was holding when he arrived a few minutes late. Inuyasha chuckled amusedly looking at the way she was acting and headed directly towards his office. After turning on the computer and preparing everything he would need for the next few hours he called her into his office. He leaned back into his chair and watched her walking back straight and eyes looking back at him defiantly.
"Do you need something Inuyasha?" she asked cooly.
"Yes, I do. But first.." he signalled her to take a seat and then got up to close the door she had left open. When he made it back to his desk he didn't take his place again but reached her in front of it, leaning slightly against it with his arms crossing and his usual smirk gracing his lips.
"You want to talk about something?" she asked, posture a little stiff.
"Relax, Kagome, I'm not gonna bite you," Inuyasha told her, "not yet at least," he winked and then noticed the scarf around her neck, "Or should I say again?" he teased.
She rolled her eyes, "Look, it's bad enough that I had to wear a scarf to cover this little gift of yours, stop gloating and get to the point because as you should already know since you are the one to assign me the work, I have a lot to do and I'd like not to have to stay past work hours since I'm supposed to pick up my grandfather from the station this afternoon."
"Uh, irritable much today? Or maybe is that you were unable to find your rest after the heated kisses we exchange yesterday night? If that's the case you just have to tell me, I'm willing to give you as much as you want," he told her while leaning over her a bit.
"INUYASHA! Be serious!"
"What? I'm serious" he shrugged, "but yes, there is something I wanted to asked you..." he started. "Sota is your little brother, uh?" She nodded, "I admit that last week I thought he was a kid you had when younger and you were afraid to tell me."
Kagome laughed, "Oh God, No! How did you come up with something like this?"
"Oi, you said a parent or a guardian, how could have I known you were his guardian?" he answered back.
"Well, I am, but it's not something I usually go out and tell the whole world about. I wouldn't have told you either if wasn't for the fact that you'll see him tomorrow evening anyway" she replied tensely.
"Kagome, look, I'm sorry," Inuyasha said sincerely.
"What?" she looked up at him in disbelief, "why are you sorry for? for being an asshole every day?"
"Keh, you'd like that. No, I'm sorry for the way I acted with you the first time you came into my office" he replied. "I teased you when I saw that you weren't graduated and after yesterday I realized that you taking care of your little brother is probably the reason why you left college. This is probably why my mom was giving my dad such a bad look when he started talking a little too much last night."
"Thank you but it's ok now, Inuyasha, you didn't know and you're usually that cocky, so I understand. Even if at the time it angered me because you can never know what a person had been through. You made the same mistake I've done when we met the day before, I judged you simply because you're rich, but working with you for over a month made me realize you worked hard to get what you have" Kagome admitted.
Inuyasha nodded, "Very well, then, let's get to business now" he declared. Kagome stood up and made to leave, but just as the night before, he swiftly took her in his arms and pressed his lips against her, tilting his head and reaching her face with both of his hands. She stood there, immobile, while he stroked his tongue along her bottom lip seeking entrance. When Inuyasha felt her control waning he took advantage of that and forced his tongue inside, delving into the depths of her mouth.
Oh God, he's kissing me again. And he's so damn good at it.
She whimpered at his actions and rested her hands on his shoulder to find support, her knees going weak. She pushed his tongue back so she could follow it and then trailed her tongue along with his fangs, causing him to growl in desire. One of his hands reached her waist and started playing with the hem of her blouse, then slipping underneath and caressing her bare skin, moving up and down. Inuyasha smirked into the kiss when he noticed the sudden spike in her scent.
When Kagome felt him touching her skin she came back to her senses and started pushing him off, putting a lot of distance between them. Inuyasha had the guts to seem surprised at her actions. He raised his brow quizzically.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" she demanded angrily, she didn't know if more with herself or with him.
"Kissing you?" he answered as if it was the most natural thing to do, and damn, it felt like that, but they couldn't and she wouldn't allow him to do whatever he wanted to do with her. Inuyasha tried to reach her again but Kagome raised her hands in front of her.
"And why do you think you can kiss me every time you like? You can't kiss me, you're my boss and yesterday I let you do it because of that bet but that's it, there's no gonna be other kisses from now on" she specified.
"Actually, you let me kiss you two minutes ago too and you were kissing me back. For the record, it didn't seem like you were unwilling, especially since I can still smell how much you want me to kiss you again and again, and maybe even leave you other little gifts" he grinned.
"WHAT?" she shrieked. He tipped his nose lightly with a clawed finger. He can't smell that, can't he?" She thought in dismay.
"Oh, yes" Inuyasha answered seeing the question into her eyes, "Why do you try to fight it? I like you, you like me, let go Kagome" he whispered huskily, and hand reaching her and tracing her arm. "There's nothing wrong with it, we're both adults," his lips brushed against the shell of her ear and goosebumps formed on her neck. She shivered and then shook her head, pushing him away again.
"What the hell? Who do you think I am, again? I thought I had been clear, you can't afford to take that kind of confidence with me. I'm not gonna be your plaything, Inuyasha. Find someone else for that, heck, you can even call your psycho girl if you're looking for some wild nights. But your methods aren't gonna work on me and I appreciate it if the next time you feel such urges you'll refrain from grabbing me" Kagome spat out with such vehemence.
Inuyasha didn't seem put off by this attitude of hers, in fact, if anything he felt even more attracted to her at that moment and desired her even more. She was feisty, independent and didn't fear him in the least. "Are you challenging me again, Kagome? We both know how did it go last time?"
"In your dreams, dog boy! I'm not challenging you," she pointed out while making her way towards the door, "I'm making myself clear because I like working here and I'd hate to leave just because my boss wants to get into my pants."
Inuyasha narrowed his eyes at the last part, "The fuck? do you think so little of me that you believe I'm doing this just to get you into bed?" his tone was harder and his posture changed. "You'll see, Kagome. You'll come around soon, you won't be able to resist me for so long, you were kissing me back every time and I felt and smelt the way you wanted me. You can pretend all you want, but in the end, I will win this time too."
"That's what your methods suggest, Inuyasha. Don't sound so surprised then if someone points it out to you. Your cocky attitude and lewd comments won't help you conquer me. Grow up a little!" she bit back furiously, just before she left the office slamming the door.
A/N: They kissed! and Inuyasha realized quite soon that he likes her more, not just because of her body, but he really needs to change his attitude because that way he's going nowhere. Kagome will be a hard nut to crack, that much I can say.
