Chapter 7
"Silverius is the superblade?" I exclaimed "Did you know this Jess?" "Course I did" she retorted "I worked with him long enough to figure it out.". "Anyway," continued Gran "Silverius saw that the world was going to die anyway, so he decided to help it along. That man decimated almost a fourth of our world, Avalon noticed this of course, and decided that it was time to find another driver." "Hold on Gran" I interrupted "I thought you said the Aegis disappeared after Luke died?". "Oh he did, only that he was hiding and experimenting." she went on. "So Avalon ventured to find a suitable driver, one that was kind and wanted to protect, along the way he saved a boy named Jackson and Avalon deemed Jackson worthy.". "Across many titans we battled, chasing Silverius to the ends of the world." "Wait a minute, we? You were there?" this time Jess interrupted. "Yes! How else would those lazy bums move from one titan to another." she remarked. "After the war, Avalon said he was going to be away for a long time and he promised me half of his sword and made me watch over the Crimsona titan.".
Knocking came from the door. "Captain Jessica! Chief Accol has gathered the village for a raid on the Agrious Tribe in 30 minutes!" a voice shouted from outside. "Dammit, it's gonna be a hell of a fight if we're going raiding the Agrious Tribe" Jess said "Go get Avalon and meet me outside in 15 minutes. Zero, let's roll." pointing at him and heading out the door. Meanwhile I was still sitting and asked the most important question in my mind. "Captain huh? You must be famous." "Shut up Hazel, go get ready or we're using your body for the next ritual" as she slammed the door. I picked up Gran and put her in the pouch again and knocked on Avalon's door. "Hey, uh Avalon, we're going to a raid" I said as if it was a casual party. "You wanna join?" Gran smacked the back of my head. "Ow! What the hell was that for?" "You're so good at making pep talks you know that?" she said sarcastically. The door opened and he was standing at the doorway. "May I borrow your sword?" he asked. "Uh sure" I unsheathed it and handed it to him. He took his own sword and did something I had never seen before. He slammed the two swords together and right before they collided, they glowed white and fused together. My eyes widened as I now saw that instead of two blades, there was one great sword. It suited Avalon perfectly, his rather tall height, 6 feet I guessed, made the sword seem equal to him. "Perfect, I haven't done this in years and now we can switch between the two fighting styles!" his eyes shined. Me, I was terrified on how I was going to wield it in battle. "Oh right!, We're supposed to meet Jess outside for a raid." and we both headed out.
"Listen up team!" Jess yelled at our squad. "The Agrious Tribe is our most vicious and ruthless enemy.". "Our goal is to go in silently, surprise them and take out their chief. Who's with me!" the whole village cheered. "I will accompany our guests on the assasination of the chief, while the rest of you destroy the village. Now let's move!". An hour of creeping silently through the dark forests later, we managed to find their village. I was disgusted to see that they had so many decapitated heads on pikes and crucified people everywhere outside the village. It was a deterrent and it was effective. Some of the villagers started whispering among themselves behind us. "Alright, this where we split up, distraction team you make the call, as soon as the signal is set up, we move in and kill their chief" Jess whispered. We moved towards the back wall of the village and climbed over the sharp poles that formed the walls. What we saw inside disgusted me. People were being tortured and whipped publicly. They were bleeding, broken and begging for it to stop. I was immediately filled with rage. How could they have such a disregard for life? I didn't realize I was walking towards them until Jess held me back. "Calm down, your rage won't solve anything" she said. I was about to argue with her but I saw too in her eyes that she wanted to rip all of them apart, piece by piece. Behind me Avalon hissed "Horrific, these people, no mercy for them at the bottom of the pit of Hell we're going to send them to". "Agreed" we all said. Suddenly a war horn sounded.
"That's the signal, let's move." Jess said. We climbed into the biggest house in the village. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see that the walls had been broken down and our soldiers were pouring in for a slaughter. Jess, who was above us, punched through a window and vaulted inside. We both followed suit and Avalon handed me the sword, which now up close, I could see that it had pieces of both of our swords. Surprisingly for its size, it was relatively light. We followed Jess through the maze of disgusting corpses as if they were trophies. "Captain Jessica of the Illumi Tribe, nice to see you." a voice boomed.A large shadow moved and hefted its large axe. It was the chief, and he was large and in his hands was an even bigger axe. We immediately drew our weapons and our blades started the affinity link. It was tingling my back but I felt slightly stronger and we all went down to business. "Two women fighting me? This will be easy!" he laughed insanely. Jess slid under him and sliced him multiple times. He roared and turned around to swing at her, I took the opportunity to make his wounds deeper as he turned around. An axe swing sent Jess through some of the Chiefs' belongings. "Jess!" I yelled as I ran to her side. Big mistake, Avalon yelled "No come back!" and our link broke. The chief swung his axe at us and Avalon raised his shield but it wasn't enough and we punched through the wooden walls and out of his house into the main battlefield. I understood what the term bloodbath was but now I was living it. Numerous bodies, both Illumi and Agrious, lay on the ground. I didn't have time to think as the chief jumped after us. His impact created a mini earthquake that shook the ground. I was filled with rage and I felt that the affinity link had turned gold as I yelled "Frost strike!" a slash across his chest left him encased in ice, but not for long as he burst through it roaring. I handed the sword to Avalon who took it and swung it like a baseball bat and hit him on his chin so hard he spun around multiple times. Then he and I both grabbed the sword and yelled "Freezing end!" The sword detached into the two blades again and made an X shaped cut in his chest, which promptly froze him and shattered. I celebrated but Avalon cut it short "The remaining forces are still fighting, go help Jess and I'll deal with the rest". "Go help Jess and I'll do the rest, Hey! That rhymes!" I could tell he was smiling under the mask as he headed towards the remaining villagers. I climbed back into the chiefs house and pulled Jess and Zero out of a pile of items. "Ugh, that sucked ass, did I miss much?" she said as I and Zero carried her outside. "Nothing much really, only a dead fat bastard" we both laughed.
Avalon really did deal with rest, most of which were frozen or lay groaning on the red stained grass. "I suppose we head back and celebrate?" he said. Back at the village, everyone was in an uproarious mood. Food and drink were being served and we were singing songs. We retold our brave deeds to the public and they 'ooohed' and 'ahhed' at them. The food that was being served was incredible. "Damn, this is better than anything you'll ever make" I teased Jess. "Oi shut it you!" she shot back as she threw a piece of meat at me. "FOOD FIGHT!" someone yelled. And so began one of my funnest experiences ever. Meat, vegetables and some random live chicken were being thrown everywhere. After the party ended, chief Accol made an announcement "We thank our guests for helping us take down the fearsome Agrious Tribe, and for that they are welcome anytime in our village!" the village cheered and yelled our names. "As there is a bounty reward for taking down the Agrious Tribe our guests can decide what they want to use it for.". "Great chieftain Accol, we desire to travel to the Viomachina Titan to continue our quest, and the rest of the money we donate for this village." I bowed. The village cheered once more. "Very well, you will all go in the morning to the capital, Luminos City, captain Jess will accompany you to the end of your journey". We all bowed and retreated to our beds and prepared for our next adventure.
