He Made It Personal

The ship's engines were failing, the Hulk was ripping the insides apart and Thor has now found himself face to face with his brother. Loki had trapped him in the detention cell that only a few short minutes ago held Loki himself. Thor took to his hammer and aggressively tried to break the glass, completely unaware of what would happen if he damaged it.

Loki smiled wickedly and walked toward the console, "The humans think us immortal. Should we test that?"

A body dropped to the ground in front of Loki, Agent Coulson stood behind him with what looked like a very powerful weapon, "Move away please."

Loki stepped away from the console. Coulson kept walking forward, "You like this?" He motioned with a tilt of his head to the large weapon in his hands, "We started working on a prototype after you sent the Destroyer. Even I don't know what it does." He powered up the weapon, "Want to find out?"

Coulson didn't hear the movement behind him and suddenly he was stabbed straight through the back, he looks down and sees the tip of the scepter protruding through his chest, Loki behind him with the scepter. His previous image disappeared.

Thor screamed in agony, "NO!"

Kendra stopped mid stride on her way to detention and clutched her chest. Something was wrong. She felt something terrible. Then, at that moment of weakness, one of Loki's commandos came up behind Kendra and knocked her over the head with the butt of his rifle. She fell to the ground. The commando picked her up and spoke into his wrist.

"Got the package, bringing her to transport."

The remaining members of the team, Steve and Tony sat in the command center as Nick spoke.

"We're dead in the air up here. Our communications, location of the cube, Banner, Thor, Kendra. I got nothing for you. Lost my one good eye. Maybe I had that coming." He briefly paused, "Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though, because I was playing something even riskier." He admits, walking around the table, "There was an idea, Stark knows this, Kendra knew of it as well. It was called THE AVENGERS INITIATIVE. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea, in heroes."

Tony gets up and walks away, tired of listening. Nick shook his head and watched him leave.

"Well, it's an old fashioned notion." He finished, throwing the bloodstained Captain America trading cards in front of Steve.

Kendra awoke with a gasp and shot her body forward. She clutched her chest and looked around her surroundings. She lay on a couch that seemed oddly familiar, gathering her thoughts she looked around and noticed she was indeed in a very familiar setting.

"I figured when you woke up, being somewhere familiar might help. Stark really went all out on this place didn't he?"

Kendra watched Loki walk into the room and move towards her. She stood up and flared her body.

"Ahh ahhh." Loki clicked his tongue, "Not yet my dear, I need your help with handling that pathetic attempt of a team when they get here. Once I have you and Mr. Stark on my side there will be no stopping me."

Kendra stood ready to fight, "I don't seem to remember when I agreed to help you, much less fight against my friends."

"There is so much you don't know about me Kendra. What I am capable of, the power I have." He shot his hand forward and Kendra crumbled to the ground, holding her head in agony. Loki put pressure into her skull. "I told you I was there. I have always been there." He walked forward with the scepter and placed it on her chest. "And now I have you as well" Her eyes began to glow and her arms fell to her side.

Natasha sat with Clint, assessing his injuries.

"Tasha, how many agents?" He whispered.

Natasha shook her head, "Don't. Don't do that to yourself, Clint. This is Loki. This is monsters and magic and nothing we were ever trained for."

"Loki, he got away?" He asked.

She nodded, "Yeah. I don't suppose you know where? He took Kendra."

Clint shook his head, "I didn't need to know. I didn't ask. He's gonna make his play soon though. Today. He planned on taking Kendra from the beginning. Once he discovered she was here, he planned on using her against us."

"We gotta stop him."

"Yeah?" Clint scoffed, "Who's we?"

"I don't know." Natasha snapped, "Whoever's left."

"Well, if I put an arrow in Loki's eye socket and got Kendra back, I'd sleep better I suppose."

"Now you sound like you." Natasha sits next to Clint.

"But you don't." He commented, "You're a spy, not a soldier. Now you want to wade into a war. Why? What did Loki do to you?"

She shook her head, "He didn't, I just…"

Clint nudged her , "Natasha."

"I've been compromised." She admitted, "I got red in my ledger. I'd like to wipe it out."

Tony looked at the empty cell container. He stands not saying a word. Steve walks in and leans against the railing. "Was he married?"

Not taking his eyes off the cell, Tony answered, "No. There was a uh...cellist, I think."

Steve nodded, "I'm sorry. He seemed like a good man."

Tony's head snapped up and looked at Steve, "He was an idiot."

Steve was confused, "Why? For believing?"

"For taking on Loki alone." Tony emphasized.

"He was doing his job."

Tony didn't accept that answer, "He was out of his league. He should have waited. I saw the tapes, Kendra was seconds away from getting there. He should have...

"Sometimes there isn't a way out, Tony." Steve argued.

Tony scoffed and began to walk away, "Right. How did that work for him?"

"Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?" Steve pressed.

Tony turns around sharply, "WE ARE NOT SOLDIERS!" he snapped, "I am not marching to Fury's pipe."

"Neither am I." Steve agreed, "He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki does. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done. Now Loki needs a power source, if we can put together a list...

Tony looks at the blood stained wall where Coulson died, "He made it personal." he suddenly comments.

Steve ignored him, "That's not the point."

Tony kept at it, "That is the point. That's Loki's point. He hit us all right where we live. Why? Killing Coulson, taking Kendra."

Steve considered that Tony was on to something, "He knew where to hit us, especially you. He knew it would tear us apart."

Tony thought about it, "He had to conquer his greed, but he knows he has to take us out to win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us and he wants to be seen doing it." He walked around Steve.

"He wants an audience."

"Right," Steve agreed, "I caught his act at Stuttengard."

"Yeah. That's just a preview, this is opening night. Loki's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered…"

Steve looked at Tony, raising his brow, knowing exactly where Loki is. Tony snapped to full attention. "Sonofabitch!" and they ran off together to get the others.

Kendra looked below to see Selvig working on the device that would open up a wormhole into the city.

"What will you do when it's all done," Kendra said, out loud, "When the world bows to your feet."

Loki walked up beside her and smiled, "Build my legacy. Our legacy."

Kendra nodded and looked at Loki, "Others will come, once they have seen what has happened here. What you have done to Earth."

Loki took Kendras chin and brought her eyes to his, "That's why I have you. My champion." he whispered, "Together we will be unstoppable. Now," he dropped his hand and walked away from the window. In the distance they would see a figure heading towards them. Tony was on his way to them.

"Stark will be here soon," Loki commented following the spec getting closer, "You will await my instructions."

Kendra bowed, "Yes your majesty."

Loki smirked and walked away and headed outside to the landing deck. Kendra watched him and took a deep breath and stretched out her fingers, controlling the bits of energy cracking through her tips.
