Winter was working diligently as usual, in her office she sat filling out her paperwork as quickly yet as thoroughly and neatly as possible. The general always complimented her on her reports when she presented them to him and it always made her want to try harder. But well today something was distracting and bothering her. She picked up a picture frame on her desk and looked at it. She couldn't help but smile, this was the first picture Jaune and her had taken together. It was a selfie Jaune had taken. He had his arm around her and was making a goofy face while Winter did not smile or make any expression at all. Those were the days before Jaune showed her how fun pictures could really be. Looking at the clock she decided to call it a night and went to hand her report in before retiring to her quarters for the night.
After being granted access she entered the General's office finding him speaking with Clover, she didn't dislike the ace ops leader but she didn't care for the way he acted towards Jaune when they had met. It was a simple mission that the General had hired Jaune for due to his expertise on dust while also being a hunter. An large scale extermination in a Schnee dust mine. The entire time Clover and his team poked fun at Jaune when he was being cautious but he was just trying to keep them safe. She noticed on more than one occasion he had skipped through time to take a stray bullet with his own body saving them. She admired him for that, and a few weeks after the mission was done when he worked up the courage to ask her on a date she said yes. And the rest was history.
"Winter, Hello." James said looking away from Clover.
"Hey Schnee." he greets
"Good evening General, hello Clover." she says with a salute.
"At ease." the General says as she relaxes a little.
"Sir, Here is that report you wanted." She says handing it to him. He looked surprised
"This wasn't needed for a few days yet Winter, I'm impressed. Clover you could stand to learn from her as I believe you're behind on your paperwork." he says with a chuckle
"Of course sir, but you know me. I'm more of a man of action." he says
"I will admit I send you on more field missions than Winter, yet your reports are still important."
"Yes sir" he says with a salute.
"By the way Winter. I forgot to ask you last time we talked, how are your wedding plans?" he asks with a smile.
"They are presiding as well as they can, I must say I am looking forward to my wedding."
"Heh, I forgot you're getting married to that Jaune guy right? What was he again?" Clover asked
"He was a hunter but now he is a teacher at beacon academy." she says
"Why didn't you try and get him here? It's closer to your job?"
"In relationships you have to make compromises and sacrifices, that is what I am doing for my future husband. Not that you would know about since you've never had an extended relationship." Winter jabs
"Woah ouch! But at least I'm not leaving my job for a woman I met."
"I'm not." Winter growled trying not to reach for her rapier.
"Easy Winter." James says "Clover she's not retiring from the military she is simply being transferred to our Vale branch. We both know she is the most loyal soldier here." Clover rolls his eyes but keeps his smile, he doesn't hate Winter either but he does enjoy getting her riled up.
"I'm pretty loyal." Clover says
"Sir, please may I be dismissed." Winter says being tired of this conversation.
"Of course, you are dismissed Specialist Schnee '' He says with a nod.
Winter salutes and walks out of the office. With a sigh she walks down the corridors back to her quarters. She would be sure not to invite Clover to her wedding, she smirked to herself as she thought of what Jaune would say 'Winter that's not very nice, after all, all he did was some light teasing. We should definitely invite him to the wedding. And the other Ace ops it's the nice thing to do.' she could hear it in her head and it made her smile to herself. Nowadays she found herself thinking more and more about her fiance. She opens her room door and walks inside, finally relaxing her stance a little. She takes off her coat and hangs it over her arm while walking to her bedroom.
She places the coat in her closet on a coat hanger, as it's always important to put things away properly (Something she secretly hoped she could train her future husband to understand. She loved him the way he was but some more organization wouldn't hurt) walking over to her bed she sits down and takes off her boots before placing them also in the closet. Walking over to her dresser she takes off her gloves laying them out on the dresser before picking up her favorite picture of her and Jaune. In the picture Jaune laughs he has his arms around Winter's waist and is lifting her into the air while she's also laughing. She remembered that day. The picture was pretty new, it was taken on the day of their engagement. She picked the picture up and held it close to her heart, that was one of the best days in her life.
She sets the picture back in its place and collects some clothes before walking to her bathroom. She quickly showers and drys herself and dresses before heading to her small kitchen area. She opens her fridge and looking at the time quickly eats some leftovers, it was almost time for her call with Jaune. Deciding to keep her hair down for a change, Winter collects her scroll and sits on her couch waiting for the call. Then finally the scroll rings and she can't help but feel happy.
"Hello Sweetheart." Jaune says with his usual charming smile
"Hello darling." she says also smiling
"Well well well, Look who has her hair down." Jaune says teasing her " I thought we'd at least have to be 3 years married before I saw that." he continues, Winter rolls her eyes
"You've seen me without my hair up you dunce." she says
"Of course I have, I just prefer teasing you about it." he says with a shrug
"Remind me why am I marrying you again?" she asks
"Because you L-O-V-E me" he says spelling out the word
"I tolerate you." she says with a grin
"Ouch, then should I call of the wedding? Take my ring back?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.
"You wouldn't dare." Winter says with a playful glare. She holds up her hand showing him said ring "After all I can't have you taking my best piece of jewelry" she teases
"Wow, someone's in a good mood tonight." Jaune says winking at her.
"I am in a good mood. I was actually thinking about the day you proposed to me."
"Awww, can't stop thinking about how romantic I was?"
"Hmm, as I recall you looked so scared I could have sworn you saw a deathstalker."
"Hey, now. When you have a girlfriend notorious for being the quote Ice Queen you can't help but be a little scared when proposing." he says trying to justify himself.
"I suppose that makes sense. But still, I thought it was adorable who scared you. You could barely get out the words." Winter says with a small chuckle
"I remember you blushing like a school girl so don't pick on me." he jabs back
"Of course I would blush, it was one of the most romantic moments in my life." she says rolling her eyes.
"So you admit it was romantic!"
"I never said it wasn't, love"
"Oooh love, that's new. I must admit it's very cute." Jaune smirks
"I've really never called you love before?" Winter asks sitting back enjoying their conversation
"Nope not that I remember at least." Jaune says thinking for a moment.
"Maybe it's all that dust in your head cluttering it up?"
"Ha Ha, sweetheart you have no idea how much dust is in my head." Jaune says before his smile is replaced with a look of mild concern "Actually you have no idea how much dust I have on my person right now." he takes a moment trying to figure out how much dust he has on him.
"Never mind that for now. I would like to go back to our conversation about our engagement"
"Sure I can figure that out later. Anyways you have no Idea the feeling of relief I got when you said yes."
"Well I was waiting for you to ask for a while. And the mood you set was wonderful."
"Really?"
"Yes, it was quite romantic. A walk though the fall time woods of mystral, you held my hand and I could feel you almost shake with nervousness. And then when we hit the clearing you sisters had set up some lamps since it was getting dark. Then you squeaked out your proposal in a very cute fashion. Who wouldn't say yes."
"Probably anyone who wasn't you. Honestly you picking me to marry still seems like a dream"
"I will stand by my words in saying it was the best choice I have made in my life." Winter says he smile growing bigger than he had seen it in a while, he couldn't lie it filled him with an inexplicable amount of joy just to see her smile.
"Wait a year and you'll be like Oh damn, I married this Arc fool." Jaune says with a laugh
"No, I don't think so." Winter says confidently
"Well then. Just be prepared since your gonna be an official part of the Arc family, the next family reunion will be even crazier than the last." Jaune warns
"The last one wasn't too crazy, I love your family too Jaune, you parents and siblings have been nothing but kind to me since you introduced me.
"Just wait till we have kids, that made Saph the automatic favorite, so if we have a kid I'll be back on top." he says with a little fist pump
"Kids?"
"Don't you want any?"
"No that's not it…" She blushes "I thought I was the only one thinking about that." With those words Jaune's largest smile spread across his face
"Of course not! I want to be a dad someday, and having a family with you would be amazing. I'm sure you would be a great mother!" he says almost shouting with excitement.
"Thank you Jaune." she says, smiling though her blush.
"No prob. Anyways how was your day?"
"Same as usual. Uneventful. Though I did remember we should send the our newest wedding plans to my father." Winter says her mood slightly drooping at the mention of her Parent
"Yeah… not something that's too terribly fun eh?" he asks.
The reason behind sending wedding plans to Jaunqes Schnee was he was paying for the wedding, actually he was organizing the entire thing. He may have disapproved of Jaune and disliked him thinking Winter should have just let him organize a husband for her, but that didn't mean any Schnee would have a cheap dumpy wedding in some tiny rental hall or anything of that nonsense. She may have upset him but it was still important to make it seem like he cared, at least for the public.
"I hate that my father only starts to bother talking to me again when I tell him I'm getting married. Then all of the sudden he takes over my wedding trying to look like a good father." she says gritting her teeth.
"Just imadgen the look on his face when they say Jaune and Winter Arc instead of Schnee." he says with a slightly fearful look on his face.
"Thats his problem to deal with, I don't want anything to do with that stupid name anymore." she says with a scowl
"Hey Win, just a few more weeks and he'll probably leave you alone again. Then it'll be just us living our lives." he says reassuring her. And it does help. She likes the idea of having a husband to live with now instead of just coming home to her lonely quarters every day.
'Yes you're right, just a few more weeks and then we'll be married. Oh, I never asked you how was your day?"
"To be honest, it wasn't so great. It's perfect now but I wish it could have gone differently." he says a look of sadness filling his eyes and his smile fading. Winter hated seeing this, her Jaune sad. She was so used to seeing only the happy and goofy man she fell in love with that it hurt when she saw him upset.
"Would you like to tell me about it." Winter knew she wasn't the most sympathetic of people in the world, but Jaune once told her she was a good listener and she had taken that to heart.
"Well, to be honest most of the day was alright, but then 5 came around. You see I started personal training one of my students by Ozpin's request." he starts
"Who?"
"Pyrrha Nikos, I'm sure you've heard of her, apparently everyone but me has" he says with a chuckle
"Yes I am familiar with Miss Nikos."
"Well anyways, I started training her as instructed… but it feels wrong Win."
"How so."
"She's just a girl"
"Isn't she training to be a huntress?"
"Yes, but this is different. She is a leader, and a former champion, and the reason Oz gave for me training her is many people are looking at her career with interest so he wants her to live up to it."
"I see."
"It's wrong Win. It's wrong to do this to a first year girl, in fact it's wrong to do it to any of my students. I look at her and I see how much pressure will be put on her shoulders and I hate it. Why can't they just let her be a normal student instead of pressing her to be what they want. Don't they care what she wants?" he asks
"Jaune… you have a good heart."
"What?"
"You have a good heart. Most people would just see the champion and prodige and understand why so many people expect great things from her. But you only see a young student, and you care for that student as a person instead of a future hero." she says wishing she was with him so she could wrap her arms around him, it looked like he needed it.
"Thanks Win, but I just wish I could figure a way out for her to be safe from them."
"I don't have an answer for you Jaune, all I can say is it's good you care so much. Just keep caring and treating her like a person and I'm sure you'll help her."
"You're right. It sucks I can't help more, but Thanks for helping me Win. You're always a good listener."
"I try."
"Anyways. Should we do some wedding planning? Or just talk for the rest of our time." he asks.
"Wedding planning is important, but for now I feel we would both rather talk." she says
"I totally agree." Jaune says his smile returning much to Winter's happiness. For the rest of the time they had they simply talked about nothing in particular. And after they had hung up Winter went to bed having dreams of a Blond warrior.
"Again!" Jaune commands. Pyrrha jumps off the floor and rushes back at Jaune. She quickly jabs only to have her fist blocked by Jaune's forearm. She punches with her other arm aiming for his face only to have it caught. He then tosses her over his shoulder, but she grabs onto his arm pulling herself back and spinning herself to hit him in the head with her feet, Jaune quickly leans back dropping to the floor as Pyrrha misses and hits the ground. Before she can react Jaune uses his arms to lift his body and kick her in the back making her stumble forward before he sweeps her legs getting her to the ground.
"That's enough. Stop targeting my face so much. My armor may cover most of me, but there are still opening you have chosen not to try." he says sternly
"I'm sorry." Pyrrha says still on the floor. Jaune walks over to her and reaches his hand for her, she takes it and he helps her up.
"It's okay, just please listen to what I'm trying to teach. Your combat with weapons is impressive, but your hand to hand still needs lots of work."
"Sir why would I need hand to hand training?"
"You won't always have your weapon on you, and some people would like to see Hunters die so they attack without warning. It's best to be prepared for anything than be ambushed and killed." Jaune says "Which reminds me, I have a gift for you." he walks over to the weapons table and picks up something Pyrrha couldn't see. He walks to her and holds out a dagger which she takes from him. It looks to be in the same style of Miló and Akoúo. She pulled it from the red metal Sheath and the blade itself was bronze colored with red accent markings. She looked at the hilt of the small blade and saw how beautiful it was wrapped in red clothes with golden studs. The blade was about 5 in and the hilt only about 3 it was a one handed weapon.
"Where did you get this sir?" she asked
"I made it in the forge this weekend when I learned I would be training you. I want you to master it and keep it on you at all times, it always gives you a weapon if you need it then." he says. To be honest it confessed her, but it must be something Hunters do then it made it sound so important. It was not, in truth it was so that if she did end up with the maiden powers she would always be ready for a fight, even a dagger was a better weapon than none.
"Yes sir, Thank you. I'm not sure if I can accept such a beautiful weapon."
"Don't worry about it. It only took a few hours and I was already tuning up my own weapons."
"Now…" he said with a sigh. " Let's start again but now I will train you with the dagger."
Pyrrha knew something was wrong. This entire time he hadn't been the fun loving happy professor she knew and secretly loved. He seems so sad and serious.
"Are you okay Doctor? If training me is that bad, I could always ask professor Ozp-"
"No," he says quickly "No it's okay, there is no need to involve the headmaster. I'm fine Miss Nikos. I'm just a little tired. Nothing to worry about."
"Please professor, I'm willing to listen. It's okay if you don't want to train me."
Jaune sighs and removes his glasses rubbing the bridge of his nose before placing them back on his face.
"I'm sorry."
"For what sir I don't understand."
"I don't want any of this for you." Jaune starts. After his talk with winter yesterday he felt he owed her some explanation
"You didn't want to train me?" she says sounding crestfallen
"No that's not it at all. Actually if this were a normal situation I would have loved training with you."
"Then what's wrong sir, I don't understand. I'm sorry if it's something to do with me."
"Don't be sorry. Like I said I didn't want this for you Pyrrha. I just wanted you to be happy. I see how much pressure is on your shoulders and it scares me seeing it all and how it might break you someday. And now Ozpin added this to your plate and I think it's unfair to you. So many people see you and think only of your future and what they expect from it. But as I see it no one ever looks at what you want to achieve in your life. All these expectations and plans for your life people place on you. I hate seeing that. I just wish I could help you feel like a normal girl, instead of an adored champion, or a future hero. All I wanted it to see you happy and normal, I wanted to protect you from all those things I said just now. But now I just feel like I'm only adding to your planned destiny rather than stopping it from getting to you. So I'm sorry Pyrrha, I'm sorry I'm failing you as a teacher." he says as he runs his hand through his hair. He looks up and sees something he didn't want to see. Tears, tears running down the girl in front of him's face. She was crying and now he only felt worse. Suddenly she rushed at him, he expected a slap or punch or some kind of attack and he felt he had no right to defend. But instead he felt her arms wrap around him and he was surprised.
"You're not a failure of a teacher. I'm happy you're not just upset you have to train me. I'm happy you care about what I want for my future, and I'm happy you want to help me feel normal. Since coming here I've never been happier, with my new friends and all my new classes and fun teachers.Thank you for caring about my happiness Doctor. But I understand those peoples expectations and It's not just their plans for me. It's my own plans for my future. I have always known I want to serve the people to protect and help them. And I know I'm not always going to live up to expectations but I also know that doesn't matter. I get to choose who I want to be and I don't have to care what other people think of that. I believe I will forge my own destiny so you don't have to worry about me Sir. If anything, your training has made me even more happy and certain of my goals. So Thank you." she says still hugging him as a few more tears fall.
Stunned Jaune stands there for a moment before he smiles and gently pats the girl's back while gently holding her with his other hand as she continues to cry. He knows this was very unprofessional but sometimes people just needed hugs, and this was one of those moments. After a moment She lets go and looks up at her teacher wiping her tears away.
"I'm sorry, that was probably inappropriate." she says
"It's okay, My mother says everyone needs a hug once in a while. And I think you needed one. And maybe me too." he says with a gentle smile.
"My mother says the same thing." she says smiling "Oh and I'm sorry for crying on you. It's just no one but my family has ever seemed to care about my happiness before."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Please know I will always be here for you. If you ever need someone to talk to. My door is always open." he says
"Thank you sir. I will remember that."
"Well, I don't know about you but I'm hungry. Let's end early for today and see if we can make it first in line for food." he says with a chuckle
"Don't teachers get to cut students?" Pyrrha asks with a laugh.
"Yes, but I still have to beat out the other professors. Professor port is usually the first there." he says whispering the last part making Pyrrha laugh again. He was glad to see her smile again. She reminded him of his sisters so much.
"Oh should I leave this here?" Pyrrha says realizing she was still holding the dagger.
"No take it with you. Remember what I said, always keep it with you."
"Yes sir."
"We'll start working with it tomorrow. Sound good?"
"Yes sir."
"Great, then I will see you tomorrow Miss Nikos please have a good evening." he says
"Thank you sir. You too." with that she walked out of the training room to the locker room leaving Jaune alone. He thought of what she said and it made him feel a little better, but when she said she will forge her own destiny it only made him more determined to get that maiden power so she could have that chance… even if it meant sealing his own destiny to do it, it was worth it.
Jane watched as Pyrrha walked into the cafeteria freshly showered with a large smile plastered to her face. Now she just had to tease her about this.
"Ooooh look who's so happy after her date." Yang jabs
"You beat me by one second Xio-Long." Jane says with a glare at her fellow blond
"It wasn't a date Yang, it was training." Pyrrha says sitting down with her food. She sounded sure but she couldn't hide her blush from the rest of the group.
"Hey Pyrrha! What's that?" Nora says loudly, pointing at her waistline. Jane looked over and saw what Nora was talking about. It was a weapon but it wasn't Miló and it certainly wasn't Akoúo.
"Yeah partner what is that?" Jane asks. Now everyone was curious (Except Blake who was reading). Ruby was straining to look over the and to be honest Jane found it incredibly cute.
"Oh this, this is a dagger Doctor Arc gave me in our training session today." Pyrrha says still trying to hide her blush, but she couldn't help it. At first she just admired the Doctor, but after today she couldn't deny she was in love with him.
"Woah!!! Getting gifts from your bow, and you say it wasn't a date." Jane snickers
"It's a weapon he wants me to train with Jane," Pyrrha says, unable to look the girl in the eye.
"Yeah and my cloak is orange with polka dots on it." Ruby jumps in
"Guys, be nice" Ren says
"We are being nice!" Jane argues
"Yeah, encouraging love doesn't hurt anyone!" Ruby says then Jane leans over the table and whispers in her ear
"But I do like Winter lets not encourage it too hard." Ruby giggles at that and Jane feels heat in her own cheeks.
"I-it's not love!" Pyrrha sputters
"Sounds like it to me." Yang says only to be poked in the side of the head.
"Be nice to Pyrrha." Weiss says picking up a new fork as she wouldn't use one that was in the brawler's hair.
"Thank you Weiss."
"Guys…" Blake suddenly says surprising everyone. "Where is my dessert?" she asks looking slightly annoyed.
"Dang she noticed." Nora said quietly. For the rest of the meal they laughed and talked about nothing in particular, after Nora got Blake another cupcake of course. (Which actually took a while since she kept eating them on her way back.
"After dinner they all went back to their dorms to study and finish up homework. Once they finished that the teams decided to hang out again this time in team RWBY's dorm room. They all watched as Yang dominated all the competition in her fighter game. Then finally they decided the winner steps down. After that Jane played against Ruby and she couldn't focus, Ruby kept nudging her and soon it became an all out nudging war as the two laughed and nudged each other. And that warm feeling came back into Jane's chest. But she couldn't understand it, or just couldn't admit to herself what it was. She had to talk to her brother. After her match with Ruby she stood up and stretched
"Hey I'm gonna go to the good vending machine near the teacher's quarters. Does anyone want anything?" she asks
"Cookies!" Ruby said sticking her hand the air
"Some juice would be nice." Ren said
"ANYTHING CHOCOLAT!" Nora shouted
"Chips." Yang said still sulking from being kicked off the system.
"Great, I got it. Weiss, Blake, Pyrrha you guys want anything?" she asks
"I'm fine thank you. Vending machine foods are super unhealthy for you." Weiss says
"I'm good." Blake says not looking up from her book.
"I'm fine, but I'll gladly go with you." she says starting to stand up
"Oh um you can't I beat Ruby so you need to play her now." she says coming up with an excuse quickly
"Really?" she asks
"Yeah right Ruby?"
"Actually I was gonna Kick Weiss' butt, but I'm okay with Pyrrha's butt too. Wait no that came out wrong." at that they laughed.
"Please Weiss you can go first, we won't be gone long."
"I guess I can try to play this barbaric game." Weiss says connecting
"Okay fine, Lets go Pyrrha to the Vending machine! Onward!" she says pointing her imaginary sword in the air. Pyrrha nods and follows her.
In the cool night air Jane feels a little less weird, the heat in her cheeks finally going away.
"Jane are you alright?" Pyrrha asks
"Yeah Pyr what would make you think i'm not?" Jane asks with a goofy grin
"Are you sure you're not sick? Your face seems a bit flushed when you were playing that game with Ruby." she says in her knowing voice
"Okay fine I was blushing or something happy now?" Jane asks embarrassed.
"I see, You have feelings for Ruby don't you?" Pyrrha says walking beside her partner again.
"No! I don't know? It's not that simple." she says looking away "I was actually going to go ask my brother about it."
"About if you like Ruby or not?"
"Yes, Wait no. stop confusing me."
"I'm sorry, I just thought I deserved a little revenge for earlier." Pyrrha says with a smile
"I guess that's fair." Jane says with a huff. "Soooo, what does miss I'm in love with my teacher know about this?"
"Let's start with changing my title." Pyrrha says with a blush
"Yeah sorry."
"Well, I know what it feels like to like someone."
"What does it feel like."
"It's this warm and nice feeling in your chest I guess, it makes your heart beat faster when you see them, and it makes you nervous around them sometimes, and you just feel better in their presence." Pyrrha says, trying to put her own feelings into words.
"I see." Jane says, word for word is how she would describe how Ruby made her feel. "I guess that's kinda how I feel." she whispers but Pyrrha smiles and hears it.
"It's a really good feeling but at the same time I guess it's scary too."
"It is scary. How, how do you know if someone likes you back?" Jane asks looking up at Pyrrha, now she could see Jane's flushed face and the worry in her eyes.
"I-I don't know." Pyrrha says. Jane's head droops
"Oh." was her response
"But, I have heard that no one ever really knows. It's one of those things you just have to take a leap of faith and learn for yourself." she says trying to help
"But what if she doesn't like me like I like her?"
"Well, then you just have to stay strong and eventually move on," Pyrrha felt like such a hypocrite with those words "And I'll still be here to support you."
"Thanks Pyr. I was gonna go talk to my brother that's why I didn't want you coming, but I think you helped me already" Jane says stopping for a moment. "I- I think i'm gonna do it,"
"I'm always here to help you Jane, and Do what?"
"Ask her out, when we get back I'm gonna ask her out." Jane says blushing madly
"Good for you. I hope it works out."
"Thank… you're a great partner, you know that?" Jane says smiling as she hugs Pyrrha
"I try to be, your not so bad yourself." she says with a laugh. The two reach the vending machine and pick up the snacks before heading back. They enter the room and everyone gets them, Jane throws everyone their food before looking at Ruby and tossing her the bag of cookies
"Than-" Ruby starts only to be cut off
"RUBY ROSE!" Jane shouts her face erupting into red, now the room was silent. Pyrrha places her hand on Jane's shoulder for support. It helps calm the blond girl down
"Y-yes?" Ruby asked confused.
"W-w-would you l-like to go on a d-d-date with me on saturday…" Jane stumbles in barely a whisper. But since the room was already silent everyone heard. Ruby's face also erupted red.
"Oh- Oh my gosh…" she starts as her brain almost shuts down "I- i- i would like that." she says quietly too.
"That's g-great." Jane says, trying to hold it together.
"Team RNJR seems like it's time to go." Pyrrha quietly says as Nora and Ren are still shocked, stand and exit the room with her.
"Well… Um thanks?" Jane says confused on what to do now as she shuffles out of the room closing the door behind her. From the other side they hear Jane squeal "YESSSSS!!!!!"
Ruby smiles still blushing like crazy but then suddenly from her bunk Yang shouts
"OKAY WHAT THE FU-"
Jaune is before the maiden again. He had no call with Winter tonight and he finished all his grading. When he first came down here he was afraid. But he soon found it soothing to just sit and talk to Amber. Even if she couldn't hear him he found it nice to be able to talk though his thoughts with her. It was relaxing almost. He sat with her for an hour and talked about nothing in particular ranging from his future wife to the girl Pyrrha he was training. He didn't know why but he felt so calm talking to her. And he was surprised when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Hello Jaune." Ozpin said looking at the teacher.
"Good evening sir." he says looking back at Amber.
"I have never thought to do this, though I have heard people in comas can hear everything we say, so it's probably nice for her to hear this." Ozpin says stepping forward
"My thoughts exactly." Jaune says still weary of the headmaster. "She deserves to hear something not concerning her power, death, or attack doesn't she?" he asks
"You're right Doctor." Ozpin agrees. "It seems in my attempt to protect the power I forgot the kind smiling girl I know who once moved in this body." he says placing his hand on the glass
"I have noticed" Jaune says bitterly
"But it's for th-"
"The greater good, yes I know. You have run out of time, yes I know. If there was another way, yes I know. Please don't give me excuses headmaster. I simply want the truth from now on."
"Of course Jaune, I'm sorry. I know this must be hard on you."
"You have no Idea sir." he says " Miss Nikos talked about destiny today during our training time."
"What about it did she say."
"She said she will forge her own destiny." he says
"Hmm"
"You say hmm because you know the same as me, if she becomes the fall maiden she doesn't get that choice anymore."
"I know."
"Then why her?"
"Because we knew she was the best candidate."
"If it had been any of the other female students at the top of their class would it have been them?"
"Possibly."
"Thats sick sir."
"I know Jaune. I have made more mistakes than any man, woman, or child on this planet. This is simply one more I have to make." he says before he turns and starts to walk away. Jaune stands and turns to the leaving man.
"I will get that power. Even if it costs me everything." Jaune says sternly. Ozpin sighs and turns around, with a somber look on his face he simply says
"It will."
