The day after Valentine's Day, Ava finally got the courage to try to talk to Auggie. She has been going to a therapist and started to break free from the cage that Kevin's actions and words had put her in. Auggie ignored her. When recess came along, she walked up to someone with their back to her, sitting on the ground, that had similar hair to Auggie's.

"Hey, Auggie, can we talk?" She questioned the boy.

The boy turned and looked at her. It was Noah.

"Oh, hi, Ava," he greeted her.

"I'm sorry, Noah," Ava apologized. "I was looking for Auggie."

"Wait, is he the guy that hit that jerk with a rock that broke Aaron's hearing aids?" He asked.

"Yeah, have you seen him?" she asked. Then she looked confused. "Wait a minute. You know L.A.?"

"No and yep," Noah responded. "We usually play together at recess, but he went back in early."

"Oh, and thanks," she replied. She finally found her ex-boyfriend.

"Can we talk?" She asked him.

"Sure," he responded.

The two walked over to the swing set.

"Why have you been ignoring me?"

"Why do you think?" He asked in a matter-of-fact tone.

"I miss you," Ava admitted to him. "I shouldn't have said what I did. I do love you, Auggie, and I know you love me. It was wrong for me to say that you don't know what love is. You do."

"You're right, I do know what love is," he informed her. "It's not pushing me away when I could have helped you. It's not making me feel like everything we had wasn't real."

"Auggie, that wasn't me," she told him.. "Kevin's words got into my head."

"Those words came out of your mouth, Ava," he said. "I can't do this."

He walked away from her.

That night, after he humiliated her, and after they made up, Auggie was about to go into Riley's room to tell KC and Ava that dinner was ready. He stopped when he heard them talking.

"How did you feel when it happened?" Ava asked KC.

"Devastated," KC answered. "Derrick took so much from me...I wanted the only good thing that could have come out of it, but he didn't even let me have that...Not even now…"

"What do you mean?" Ava questioned.

KC rubbed her lips together, and attempted to blink back tears.

"I can't have any more children," she allowed herself to admit to the young girl. "I'm going through premature menopause. I found out a few days before you…"

"Oh…" Ava said.

"Yeah, I've always wanted more children," KC said. "Especially after I got with Farkle."

"Did I cause it?" Ava questioned. "I overdosed...Did that kill the baby?"

Auggie's eyes went wide.

"She was pregnant…" he said to himself in shock.

"No," KC said, "the doctors said that it was most likely caused by the stress you've been harboring since the attack. It's Kevin's fault, not yours."

"I was happy that something good...a blessing from a curse...came from that," Ava said. "But I didn't want to put that on Auggie. I didn't want to be a burden on him anymore…"

"Is that why you broke up with him?" KC asked. Ava nodded.

Tears started falling down Auggie's face.

"I can't believe I did that to her tonight," he said to himself. He looked up and prayed, "Please forgive me."

He walked away from the door.

"You're not a burden to him; you've never been," KC told Ava. "He loves you. I felt the same way when I was with Jaxon. All of my trauma and then my cancer. But he protected me and was there for me through everything. He married me when we were fourteen and fifteen. I got pregnant when I was two years older than you. And you know what?"

"What?" Ava asked KC.

"We knew we loved each other, just like you two do," she told her. "Let him be there for you, Ava. You need him and he needs you. Don't push him away."

Ava nodded.

"We shouldn't have hurt each other," she said.

"Yeah," KC agreed. "That happens in every relationship, though. Everyone says things they don't mean."

"Do you think, if the miscarriage hadn't happened, I would've been a good mom?" Ava questioned.

"There's no doubt in my mind," she answered her.

"After my dad left, my mom kind of withdrew," Ava informed the brunette. "He made her think she wasn't good enough for anyone else. He made her feel like she was nothing."

"Is that why she used that persona? Because she wanted to show she was fine when she wasn't?"

"Yeah," Ava admitted. "She felt like she wasn't a good mom so she tried to make it seem she was the best. She'd buy me all kinds of stuff. She wanted me to feel special because she didn't feel that way."

"I know how that feels," KC responded, "not feeling like a good enough mom. I didn't feel like I was enough for Aaron, but he loves me, nonetheless. He knows I'm doing my best. That's all a kid needs from a parent- love and effort. They'll appreciate it in the long run. You will be a great mother someday. Even though it may feel like Kevin tore you down, what I see is strength. This has made you stronger, even if it doesn't feel like it."

"Thanks, KC, for talking to me," Ava told her older friend. "I love you."

"I love you too, Ava," KC responded back. "And I'll always be here to talk."

They hugged.
