One of the soldiers manning the wall of the border fort yawns as his shift is almost over. He lazily looks over the wall towards the world outside and sees something moving closer. The soldier rubs at his eye as he tries to see more clearly before the figure is gone, and some wind rushes past his head. "Hi," Sai greets behind the man before stabbing him from behind in the heart and covers his mouth, so he doesn't make as loud of a scream. "Time to get to work. Nobu, back to the rest," Sai instructs his steed below.
Nobu sputters before trotting and then running off back to the army as Sai turns to the small fort inside to look over the area. The inside is mostly a camp with no real permanent buildings beside a forge and storage building. Sai ponders, considering if he should try and take as much or leave it intact or raze it to the ground. So many options. And that doesn't take into account the current amount of soldiers in this place. With that thought, Sai starts counting. 'Ten, twenty, thirty, thirty-four in view. More could be in the tents though…take the gate and hold it. Then if I haven't finished by that time the army enters, they can finish massacring the rest,' Sai decides, jumping down to the interior.
He lands behind a patrolling soldier who looks behind him at the sound of something hitting the ground. Only then does he see the blade go through his eyes and a hand covering his mouth, pushing his body into some bushes.
'They are completely unprepared. Do they not expect this attack at all?' Sai questions as he moves in on the gate and starts taking off the beam that was made to keep the door sealed.
After the beam is taken off, Sai pulls the doors open. He then grabs a torch off one of the posts and waves it before extinguishing the light for the army to see. Sai moves back inside, trying to find something useful and an answer as to why they are not prepared. When Sai approaches the most massive tent of the fort, he waits behind it in the bushes as he looks at the soldiers still patrolling around the area. When the army charges in and cause a racket, all the soldiers rush over to the entrance to fight off the attackers.
Sai then slips under the tent flap and sees a soldier shouting some orders out the doorway. Sai rushes up before stabbing the man in the back to then toss him to the side. He starts to look on the table before him and sees some reports. Sai picks one of the stories up before beginning to read. 'Monster…monster…monster…one mention of Uchiha. Guess this place is more…more of a prevention for monster attacks,' Sai sighs as he realizes now why this fort is here. They were expecting monsters from the nearby dense forest. Not an army is coming for them or the clan. When he reads the rest of the reports, he catches more mentions of monsters and barely any talk of the Uchiha clan. There are only statements of patrols getting close to the border and denial of requests for reinforcement five times.
"Woo! That was an exercise!" Tsuyano cheers as she enters the tent, covered in some blood on her armor and hair before spotting Sai sitting at the table. "Already taken over? I see you have been playing leader while we handled the men inside."
"Did you kill them all?" Sai asks.
"Yep. Didn't leave any behind and am now setting up our own for this place," Tsuyano says, flinging her sword and clears the blood onto the ground.
"This fort's purpose was for the monsters. They didn't expect us to come this way," Sai informs, giving her the reports and the requests for reinforcements.
Tsuyano hums as she looks over the many papers before sighing. "Great…okay. I'll get the ones experienced with monsters to watch the fort," she says before tossing the papers onto the desk while he sits and seems to relax. "Are you okay?"
"Fine, but feel like a waste. We probably have gotten quite a few to change alliances after seeing how badly they were treated," Sai says as she sits beside him.
Tsuyano smiles. "Well, we can move those people to safer places if we can. After all, we don't want to be seen as cruel, or they will never help us."
"True. From here, should we hit the mines and seize them as planned or go take the castle here?" Sai asks, pointing on a map on the desk.
"If we try to take the mines, we will leave our supply lines open to attack and can get cut off and encircled. While if we take too long with the castle, then same issue," Tsuyano says, thinking on that one.
Sai sighs. "So we need a frontline established. Slowly move up…this isn't going to be a quick war like many thought. And we conscripted farmers, workers, laborers, low-level people. They expect a quick war."
"It won't be as long…Sai I, want you to take the Uchiha portion of the army and take those mines. I will take my retinue to lay siege to the castle. We will eventually get reinforcements so we can establish the front with this, and if we are quick enough, we will take it before they can respond," Tsuyano instructs.
"Are you sure you want to do this? Because we are missing a significant factor. The fact that the monsters are now up in arms and acting like a mishmash of an army of their own and attacking areas. Like this report," Sai asks, picking up another paper. "Talks about how they lost a large farm just a bit away from a village. A whole family and all animals gone or dead. "What are you talking about?" Tsuyano asks, looking at him, partially confused. "The monsters have always been this bad. Almost as bad as other people," she huffs. "I don't like it as much as you do, but we can try something. I can send a letter to Kairi to make an army group just for a monster and see about setting up areas they can watch over. Would that help?"
"I would like to go investigate for myself. One soldier won't make much of a difference in combat strength on the battlefield," Sai suggests looking to her.
Tsuyano slowly places her sword onto the table. "But you are strong and a boost to one side or the other. Are you going to scout ahead or go monster hunting?" she questions as he picks up the map from the table and folds it up.
"Both, something feels very off, and you know what mom would say," Sai says, making her smirk.
"Follow your gut over some snooty prenotion," Tsuyano quotes.
Sai chuckles and pockets the map into his shirt. "Yeah. At this point, there are too many possibilities that it's not only the Saitou we have to worry about but the monsters who could be lying in wait," Sai explains as he grabs some food and supplies on another table nearby before eating one. "Animals and monsters seem to be able to have a sixth sense for danger and pick up the leftovers. If they catch us after the battle, a lot of us may die."
"You have ten days. I want you back with the army by then," Tsuyano relents.
Sai smiles before walking over and kissing her cheek. "Don't worry. I will be at the mines and ready for the assault, so you better grab the next fort in that time," he promises before walking away.
"I will meet you at the castle," Tsuyano assures.
Sai gives a wave as he walks outside the tent to see that most of the dead Saitou soldiers are being carried and placed in a cart to be taken away. Nobu nickers at his touch before starting to walk through the forest again. Sai knows there must be more to this area, and with what he just found, it would be dangerous if the Uchiha focuses too much on the war and not enough on the monsters.
Over the next few days, Sai and Nobu search the area, killing several monsters, and Nobu even got a few kills when he rears up before stomping, crushing the skull of an unfortunate goblin and a giant centipede monster.
"That should do for now until I can have Kairi send a proper extermination expedition. We should head towards the mines now," Sai says, feeding Nobu an apple.

Sai traces where the walls started and sees a dark blue cloaked figure in the middle of the clearing that is moving around widely. He gets off of Nobu before sliding down the cliff, stopping short of the strange chakra attacks to look at this person.

Sai raises an eyebrow as he looks around the area. "Yeah…I can see that. Wait…magic?" he asks, confused, turning his gaze back down to her.
"Yes, I use magic," Raven informs as Sai recognizes she is in a trance-like state.
Sai leans down and reaches out before grabbing and lifting her chin to make her face him. "Who do you serve?"
"You," Raven answers.
"Good. Keep it that way and come out of this trance if you can. I rather talk normally…no matter how much fun it is," Sai mutters to the side as he moves his hand down her neck to her chest.
Raven blinks as her eyes start to focus before she grabs her head, moaning in pain.
Sai stops and moves to stroke her shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Sai raises an eyebrow. "What was that?"

"No. The magic is an addition," Raven states simply.
Sai sighs and scratches his head before looking back at her. "Would a kiss work for you?"
Raven frowns, opening her eyes at him. "Look, I might be contracted to you, but not in that way. I will work with you for now, but that is it," Raven informs.
Sai frowns before scoffing and starts to walk away. "Follow me when you are done, and we can talk later."
Raven sighs as she floats after him. 'I have to learn how she does that,' Sai thinks, jealous seeing that.

"You getting into the saddle or flying the entire way?" Sai asks.
Raven slowly turns her emotionless gaze to him, and, after a minute, Sai sighs. "Right. No saddle. Flying…lucky," he mutters at the end before flinging himself onto the saddle. "Just…follow me," he says, kicking Nobu's sides, and he starts to trot off, heading back to the path they diverted off of.
